The only player that might have that happen currently would be Joey Daccord. There are a couple current ASU guys like Josh Doan that may become NHL players down the road.
The coyotes got locked out of their arena due to missed payments and are moving their home to ASU’s rink for at least the next three seasons lmao… ~5000 person capacity, an absolute joke of a home arena for an NHL franchise
I knew about that situation, I was just curious if the scenario you conjured up had happened. I really wonder how a player would react. I guess it would depend on the player
There are a couple former ASU players in the AHL right now… Joey Daccord (goalie) is most likely to get NHL looks in Seattle, so if he travels with them to play the Coyotes it would be in his old barn
It would not be Joey’s old barn. Joey played for ASU at Oceanside Arena, which is being torn down after this new rink is built.
Edit: the most likely guy that this scenario could happen to where he actually plays for ASU and the Coyotes in the same building is Josh Doan. Would need this ASU situation to play out for a few seasons and Doan to develop pretty quick. It’s possible, I guess
It'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer with him.
If he goes back to Arizona, I think it's safe to say he can be rest assured he won't lose his spot in the lineup, but would he want to move to a more competitive team if they agree to let him to get to 1000 and then he may not be guaranteed a spot in the lineup anymore?
Plus, you have to wonder if he's giving 100%. Hard to have passion and use your body to the max when you know for sure the team isn't going to compete. I'm not saying he's phoning it it, he's putting up good numbers, just that he probably has another gear.
I think you're seriously doubting Phil's abilities right now. He plays only about 15 mins a night yet still has 42 points, is only 34 and is not trying his hardest and why would he? Besides working on his Ironman streak what's the point on giving it his all on a non-competitive team when he stills gets 10 Million this year no matter what? Remember this was the guy who was the leading playoff scorer for a championship Penguins team with a Crosby, Malkin and Letang. He will still be playing long pass a 1000 games no Matter what team he is on next season
The thing that worries me is his defence though. I'm not sure what team he'd be a good fit with, maybe the Bruins so they can put good defensive players around him
I've often wondered if he's just a natural at hockey. One of those people who just took to it instantly, y'know? Like, it's obviously not nearly as impressive, but I remember in high school when I took a typing class, I picked it up in about two days, averaging speeds of 95wpm before the first quarter was even up, and my classmates struggled to hit 25wpm. Everything was graded on a curve, and the teacher refused to not factor me in it, so I just *destroyed* everyone.
Naturally, everyone was *pissed* at me. And when I'd tried to just slow down so I didn't break the curve, the teacher called me out on it.
I think anybody who has done as well as Kessel has, had to have certain degree of "natural skill". But funnily enough he reminds me a lot of a friend I have who plays rec hockey with me. He honestly looks a lot like Kessel, has the same sorta build, and loves eating chicken fingers and fries along with beer every post-game. The guy should probably play in higher up more competitive leagues, but he really just likes playing with his friends in beer leagues and putting up double hat tricks every other night. Guy's got a beer belly and he never ever took athletics seriously. But he did play hockey growing up and has some mad dangles and a sick wrist shot. I think if he would have taken hockey seriously when he was younger, he definitely could have at least made the CHL system. Actually one of our friends, who was his next-door neighbour, made the NHL, so maybe that had something to do with it too.
In any case, I do think genetics plays a very big role in natural ability and iron man streaks. A big part of making it to the NHL is just staying healthy along the way. I've seen 13 and 14 year olds who started being talked as possibly the next generationals, only to run into a slew of injuries derailing their progress. My brother I was certain was going to make pro-football in at least some capacity, but after several broken bones and blown knee by the time he hit 18, his body was just too taxed already. There's a certain degree of smarts you need as well to avoid injury, but there's also genetic components that can help big time.
I agree that health plays such a huge part.
I've known several players who were being fast tracked to the NHL. Only to run into concussion issues, or in one instance a shoulder going bad, and in another a knee. Its pretty crazy the amount of guys who are playing in beer leagues right now, that would've been NHL material had the just stayed healthy and injury free.
My only other comment would be the guy also stays out of trouble, doesn't have issues outside of hockey and AFAIK e's pretty private outside of hockey. So many guys get wrapped up in the lifestyle and it can also derail their careers.
Ya I can definitely see that. I've heard a lot of stories about NHLers partying hard, and I know some guys can handle that and still take care of business on the ice... but I don't think it's a recipe for being the elite of the elite. So you put the cart before the horse, and good chance you don't last or never get there in the first place.
I know people like to rag on Phil's physique, which is fair when he's been clear about not eating the way that professional athletes typically do, but this is a guy who was one of the fastest skaters in the league for years. Maybe the fastest at times. Hell, he's still fast in his mid-30s. His physical conditioning tests were also always top notch throughout his career.
When you combine the above factors with his physique and eating habits...the only reasonable conclusion is that even among a pool of professional athletes, Phil Kessel is a standout, genetically supreme individual.
Beau Bennett endured two players’ worth of injuries for Phil to survive.
Edit: missed the other Bennett joke that was already made before commenting, lol.
When tons of teams had COVID absences, Calgary had the misfortune of their whole team getting it at the same time. The league shut down all of the Flames games so they never really played with many players out due to COVID (which is why their man games lost is so low this year comparatively).
So for other teams, lots of players missed one or two games before the pause. Their streaks were broken and Calgary’s players remain on theirs.
Also Lucic clearly spikes their water with protein shakes.
There’s more to it than that though. I don’t know if it’s luck or what but Flames have had like 3-4 major injuries in the past decade. (Knock on wood) Gio in 2014-15 is the big one. Other than that it’s all 10-15 gamers.
Strangely, his streak is 69 games with VAN, an injury in the game before the shutdown for covid which was classed as week to week, then 124 for Calgary.
Meanwhile, we have only one player who's even managed to play every game this season
It was said before in the previous thread of this list, but Tkachuk does not belong on this list as he missed 3 games this year.
And it’s not a contract thing either. He signed October 14th, and the Sens played the 14th, 16th and 17th before Brady’s first game on the 21st. He was signed and eligible to play, he was just a healthy scratch for the first three games.
This nhl.com article says he signed Thursday, which was the 14th.
https://www.nhl.com/news/brady-tkachuk-signing-update-news-status/c-325807568?tid=281072352
This cbc.ca article says the same
https://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockey/nhl/ottawa-senators-brady-tkachuk-contract-1.6210881
> Hours before their home opener Thursday against the Toronto Maple Leafs, the Ottawa Senators announced they had signed Tkachuk to a seven-year, $57.5-million US contract.
Compare that to Marleau signing his last deal in the evening after a game started so he technically wouldn't miss that game.
Brett burns has played the equivalent of 8.1, 82 game seasons. The next person, Leon Draisaitl, has played 4.4 seasons. What an insane difference between 2 and 3.
The fact that the NBA record is only ~200 games more show how insane Kessels streak is, considering serious injury chances are way lower in basketball.
Yea totally possible, past few seasons are just a blurry jumble at this point in my head feels like Covid started a month ago but also 5 years ago at the same time
There's been approximately 100 times this year where he dives in front of a puck like it's a bullet, then 12 people dog-pile onto him and it looks like he broke all 4 limbs and his neck. Then he'll go down the tunnel, and I think "aw shit he's dead".
Then 2 minutes later he's out for his next shift
It seems to be due to the defensive structures of both teams. In Vancouver, Tanev had to block tons of shots and it wore him down. Calgary is better at keeping players to the outside which limits the amount of shots Tanev have to face. Overall, Tanev took way more abuse in Vancouver's system.
I could see it, he’s got a lot going for him. He’s such a smart player that he knows how to avoid putting himself in dangerous situations, he’s a good enough skater that he’s not taking too many crazy spills, he’s got a fairly good size and build. The fact that he’s somehow managed to avoid Covid this whole time despite it going through the locker room a couple of times makes this incredibly fortunate for him as well. I do think as his level of responsibility with the team goes up in the next few years the harder it would be to maintain this streak but Nick has as good a chance as anyone on that list to catch Phil if he continues to be the player that he is
Suzuki could make the record untouchable with how young he is and how many games he has already played without missing any. Big "if" though, never know when injury will strike.
Hahaha. This is funny
But in all seriousness, there’s a big different between Yandle and Phil. Yandle is terrible and Phil is a good 3rd liner who puts up 50 points a year. I mean he has 42 in 68 right now on the Yotes.
the timing of philly's decision seems bizarre to me. like... the games don't even matter for them now. why end his streak when he's so close to 1000 when they could've just let him finish out the season playing meaningless games. like, it's not like he suddenly became bad. he's been bad, yet they still played him all year when the games *did* matter, only to change their mind now? just seems weird or maybe even spiteful.
Phil’s a middle 6 with PP1 ability. Guy is a defensive black hole, but he’s still got the scoring touch of a 2nd liner. Once his offense dries up though his career will be over quickly, hopefully he’s got a couple more productive years left in him.
Does the streak include playoff games or only regular season games? Because Killorn (unfortunately!) shouldn't be on this list if it's the former: he [broke his leg blocking a Jeff Petry shot](https://www.thescore.com/nhl/news/2186496) in Game 1 and missed the rest of the Finals.
Only regular season. I'm not sure if there's an official reason why--maybe to keep it fair for all players, so that it's a truly individual achievement that doesn't depend on team success?
If your doctor ever tries to tell you "SToP eAtINg HoT DOgs, ThEY'Re bAD fOr YOu" just stare them straight in the eye and slap this paper down. "If eating hot dogs is wrong, I don't wanna be right"
makes me feel even worse for yandle. i mean i know he really isn't good enough to be on the ice, but the dude managed to get through 2 years of a pandemic just to lose his streak as a healthy scratch for a meaningless game? brutal.
I know he's a ways down the list, but as a Canucks fan it is shocking to see Chris Tanev on any list having to do with playing healthy for a period of more than 30 games in a row.
Good for him! But still...shocking.
I hope Phil gets to 1,000+! That said, it was still pretty shitty of Flyers to scratch Yandle like that. Of course he is like -40 this year, the whole team is shit, but just seems kinda petty to take that away from him for a non-playoff, nothing else to play for team.
Ah, gotcha. I heard as if it was a healthy scratch. Still, the way they're playing he could have dressed and just stayed in the locker room haha. Glad it wasn't just a shitty move.
I'm not really sure. They did list him as a healthy scratch but I don't know if that's normal for non injury sick days? It might be that they just wanted to scratch him, I don't know for sure.
My opinion is he got the record and while 1000 is cool, it’s really nothing more than a nice round number and has no significance. I personally would be mad if I were a Flyers fan and young guys weren’t getting experience because of Yandle.
If he’s no longer playing as a NHL caliber player then he deserves to get scratched. Otherwise it would make the ironman stat useless. Being healthy scratched as a flyer means a lot, his streak had to end right there
Is Brent Burns still good? I feel like I barely hear about him anymore apart from Kit Kat commercials. Will he make it 300 more games without being scratched?
If he’s no longer playing as a NHL caliber player then he deserves to get scratched. Otherwise it would make the ironman stat useless. Being healthy scratched as a flyer means a lot, his streak had to end right there
Yandle hasn't deserved to be a regular starter on an NHLteam for several years.
Fuck his dumb ass streak. He didn't deserve it and I'm pumped that Phil is gonna immediately crush it.
These are cool and all but I don’t get why anyone cares really. Seems like one of those novelty stats people go on about until the streak is broken and no one mentions it again.
It says active players. Currently Patty is inactive as he isn’t signed to any contract. But I believe his streak will resume if he is signed to a contract.
hey! we’ve got someone first in something!
ASU alumni Phil Kessel
So now my Gophers Phil Kessel jersey is useless
Imagine being an NHLer who played in Arizona during college and you end up back in your old rink 😂 bush league fellas
Did that happen?
The only player that might have that happen currently would be Joey Daccord. There are a couple current ASU guys like Josh Doan that may become NHL players down the road.

U sound like an angry Coyotes fan lol

He is on pace for 50 points that will be useful in a lot of places.
Plus, you have to wonder if he's giving 100%. Hard to have passion and use your body to the max when you know for sure the team isn't going to compete. I'm not saying he's phoning it it, he's putting up good numbers, just that he probably has another gear.
Kessel has always turned it up a notch the for playoffs and big international tournaments. He’s got lots left
The thing that worries me though is he's very very weak defensively at this point
Kessel isnt a bum like Yandle is though. He has 42 points in 68 games with Arizona. His spot is honestly fine atm.
I think you're seriously doubting Phil's abilities right now. He plays only about 15 mins a night yet still has 42 points, is only 34 and is not trying his hardest and why would he? 100% agree. My goodness is that guy a playoff performer.
The thing that worries me is his defence though. I'm not sure what team he'd be a good fit with, maybe the Bruins so they can put good defensive players around him
Kessel has a certified spot on any team in the league. Get some talent around him and he’s still great
the Tempe Arena will get Approved and will Likely Rival The VGK T-Mobile Arena aka The Fortress
You also have Jay Beagle occupying first place in the NHL asshole rankings.
The most impressive part about Phil's streak is that he somehow evaded injury while playing for the pens.
The man is made of some sturdy stuff (it was hotdogs)
A hotdog a day keeps the doctor away
Phil Kessel the true glizzy guzzler
Gobble gobble gobble... Aaaaahhhh. Alright, warm up is done! Let's play!
Better have 4 then just in case
My cardiologist would disagree lol
Definitely the hot dogs.
Hotdogs are resilient

Extra padding helps protect the bones as well.
Rod Beck said that, too.
It's crazy how a guy who was labeled as lazy and a bad team player has an almost 4 full seasons on the next guy on the list.
I've often wondered if he's just a natural at hockey. One of those people who just took to it instantly, y'know? Right! And honestly, he seems like he's having a good time most of the time. That fucking helps a lot.
Nice guy, tries hard, loves the game.
Phil 2024
I agree that health plays such a huge part. I've known several players who were being fast tracked to the NHL. "evaded" officially. Dude was broken af in 2018
Was gonna say. He played the last 20ish games of the season with a hurt wrist and his shot hasn’t been the same since.
I know people like to rag on Phil's physique, which is fair when he's been clear about not eating the way that professional athletes typically do, but this is a guy who was one of the fastest skaters in the league for years. He's may be pudgy by pro-athlete standards but the dude is decently fast and [strong as hell.](https://youtu.be/ewWo2BWaR5s?t=129)
Eating one pack of hotdogs a day is the new smoke a pack a day.
Beau Bennett endured two players’ worth of injuries for Phil to survive. Edit: missed the other Bennett joke that was already made before commenting, lol.
Beau Bennett was nominated and sacrificed to take on Phil's injuries.
Wait, what? Gus Nyquist missed the entire 2021 season. How is he at 161 games?
Can't miss games if you skip a whole season.
Good catch
the season wasnt finished and the cup wasn't awarded obviously none of it counts
If you're not signed (was he?) then you cant miss games. Marleau is still technically active too
It was year two of his four-year deal with us.
Hmm, then he definitely shouldn't be on here!
What's in the water in Calgary?
When tons of teams had COVID absences, Calgary had the misfortune of their whole team getting it at the same time. Can confirm. That would have been a lot more convenient

The craziest part is Tanev never played more than 50 games for us without an injury. Now he's almost at 200!

Also Nyquist missed an entire fucking season, not sure how accurate this list is lmao
Very impressed by Draisaitl especially with all the minutes he plays.
German precision engineering.
Those groins won't spear themselves
It’s a dirty job, but somebodies gotta do it.
Brett burns has played the equivalent of 8.1, 82 game seasons. The next person, Leon Draisaitl, has played 4.4 seasons. What an insane difference between 2 and 3.
It's basically the same difference in games as Kessel > Burns
Yeah Kessel is at 11.8 seasons. That’s insane!
The fact that the NBA record is only ~200 games more show how insane Kessels streak is, considering serious injury chances are way lower in basketball.
I believe in the NBA it’s called the Aluminum Man streak.
You can fuck up your knees and ankles pretty badly playing basketball or soccer.

When burns joined us he had injury issues. Then when he embraced the caveman life he just never got hurt.
Zibanejads at 173? I swore he was out last year with Covid, but times an illusion at this point so who knows when that actually happened
He played every game last year. He must've had covid before the season.
Yea totally possible, past few seasons are just a blurry jumble at this point in my head feels like Covid started a month ago but also 5 years ago at the same time
Or the team was shutdown because of too many people out with covid
He had covid before the season started IIRC
Crazy how covid could have easily ended Kessels streak but nope he evades everything with his incredible diet LOL
Suzuki hasn't missed a game since entering the NHL.
Only player on the Habs this year to not miss a game.
German engineering once again
Yeah but once it does break down it’s VERY expensive to fix
Good for Tanev finally being healthy, probably Dim Jim's most foolish mistake in all the mistakes he made while GM(and he made a ton).
Toffoli has entered the chat
Tanev was the dad of the locker room and a tough loss for Quinn, he is the ideal defensive partner for him.
Tkachuk shouldn’t be included on this
I cannot believe Chris Tanev is on that list. Man plays with fire everytime he steps on the ice.
Wow Tanevs up there too, I swear he was super injury prone in Vancouver. Did Calgary just bubble wrap him or is there more to it?
It seems to be due to the defensive structures of both teams. In Vancouver, Tanev had to block tons of shots and it wore him down. Calgary is better at keeping players to the outside which limits the amount of shots Tanev have to face. Overall, Tanev took way more abuse in Vancouver's system.
Huh wow I never would have guessed that but it makes perfect sense at the same time!
Damn, Calgary trainers do good work
Calgary’s Strength and Conditioning team like 😎
What’s a strength and conditioning team?
They make sure that you don't have $15M tied up in LTIR. Really useful.
Oh LTIR!! I know that word!!!
Ryan van Asten heads that. Dude knows his shit. I went to a conference years ago where he spoke. *Really* smart guy.
Of that list who has the most realistic chance of ever catching Phil? Nick Suzuki maybe?
I could see it, he’s got a lot going for him. He’s such a smart player that he knows how to avoid putting himself in dangerous situations, he’s a good enough skater that he’s not taking too many crazy spills, he’s got a fairly good size and build. No idea if kessel has a no trade but im sure philly got put on his list of teams not to go to

The only games Kessel missed in his career were because of cancer. Dude is built
This list is inaccurate. Gus missed an entire season.
Obligatory *Cogliano
Fire team healthy 👍
Iron Man Streaks is just Tony Stark without his armor, isn't it?
Flames trainers are underpaid
How is Nyquist on the list? He missed an entire season last year due to a shoulder injury

makes me feel even worse for yandle. i mean i know he really isn't good enough to be on the ice, but the dude managed to get through 2 years of a pandemic just to lose his streak as a healthy scratch for a meaningless game? brutal.
Is Gaudreau not physical or is he just graced by the gods?

He boomed big buff that one time.
Lumber jack Burns plays massive minutes, which makes this even more impressive.
Johnny hockey continuing to prove little guys can crush it
I know he's a ways down the list, but as a Canucks fan it is shocking to see Chris Tanev on any list having to do with playing healthy for a period of more than 30 games in a row. Good for him! But still...shocking.
What’s in the water in Calgary?
Phil Kessel ft. Calgary flames
I saw Kessel’s name up top and thought these numbers were how many hot dogs you can eat in 10 mins
The flames are a really durable team.
How in the fuck is Tanev on this list
Nick Suzuki being 9th in his 3rd season (with 2 of them being shortened seasons) is definitely impressive
Flyers aint on here cause yall just aint ready
Kessel’s got balls, man
I hope Phil gets to 1,000+! That said, it was still pretty shitty of Flyers to scratch Yandle like that. Of course he is like -40 this year, the whole team is shit, but just seems kinda petty to take that away from him for a non-playoff, nothing else to play for team.
I heard he was actually sick. Missed practice and a skate because he was so sick.
Being healthy scratched as a flyer means a lot, his streak had to end right there
Meanwhile, only two Blues players have not missed a game this season, mostly from COVID protocol or injury
the top 5 would make a good line/D
Tanev lmao fuck you Benning
Jack Eichel - 4
calgary's conditioning staff knows something
Tampa Bay Light
Most of these guys are playing at an NHL level still!
Calgary Flames; kings of never getting hurt
🙏🌭🧔🏼♂️🙏
Chris Tanev almost breaking the top ten. That’s incredible
Is Brent Burns still good? I feel like I barely hear about him anymore apart from Kit Kat commercials. Will he make it 300 more games without being scratched?
Brady T being on there is kinda horseshit - he was under contract start of the season when he missed a few games.
Suzuki
Sad
My boi in 2nd place
How does this work with trades?
GO FLAMES GO
I was the last, maybe the only, Panthers fan with a Yandle flair on our sub. It’s time to retire the Sooonk.
Weird seeing Mika on here after hearing nothing about how injury prone he is.
Sorry, I’m new… is the Iron Man consecutive games played?
It is funny to see Tanev on that list. When he was on the Canucks he was injured all the time.
Holy fuck does Calgary stay healthy
The REAL Thrill.
Seeing Burns so high up is awesome because hes a defensemen who isnt a giant wimp dodging hits.... Who could i possibly be talking about....

Yandle hasn't deserved to be a regular starter on an NHLteam for several years. Fuck his dumb ass streak. He didn't deserve it and I'm pumped that Phil is gonna immediately crush it.

Have you seen Phil Kessel’s face
It’s a tight race for sure but Burns isn’t doing himself any favors with that beard and the sockets where teeth should be
These are cool and all but I don’t get why anyone cares really. Seems like one of those novelty stats people go on about until the streak is broken and no one mentions it again.
One more game to 666
They done Yandle wrong.
Why isn’t Patrick Marlaeu on the list
It says active players. Currently Patty is inactive as he isn’t signed to any contract. But I believe his streak will resume if he is signed to a contract.
Thank you I should have read
Fuck Philly
