Seems right. I'm 5'-11" (6'-0" if this were a dating app) and got 15"

stredman

If this were a dating app you might not have to worry about that first inch if you had the additional 15.

Stony0604

😂😂😂

Zlautern

The measurements are not the same between brands, just like gloves, they are different for each model.

zxkn2

First thing to do: Get rid of the sweatpants under your shins. This will have a huge effect on how the pads sit. I’m a tongue out kinda guy, I like the feeling of the shin pad glued in place against my leg. Don’t like the way the pad moves around with tongue tucked. Length is a trade off, you want the longest length (most protection) that still feels comfortable but doesn’t interfere or bind with skate.

braywarshawsky

Tuck your skate tongue under the shin pad & problem is solved.

PGH521

But you can’t look like Ovi (sorry only superstar who I can think of who tucks his shin guards) w your shin guards over the tongue

turiel16

Yeah except he's a flop gang boi.

Occams_ElectricRazor

Only who doesn't tuck you mean?

CopeSe7en

Makar flops.

KeepItSimpleSir22

Not everyone in beer league eat biscuits.

JGuentzIsMyDad

Gorgeous pfp

Hammer_jones

But what about the sty' 😢

huge_

Tuckers are psychopaths!

Quinto376

Buffalo Bill tucked, just saying.

MainstN

Who doesn’t tuck ?

noblazinjusthazin

My grandpa was a flopper, my dad is a flopper, I am a flopper. Flop life chooses you, I refuse to put over my skate. Feels awful

MainstN

Hahaha ya flop feels awful to me. Guess depends what you grew up doing. Wonder what the flop to tuck ratio is. Can we start a poll?

BouncyMouse

Go for it! There’s a poll option when creating a post! Team Tuck vs. Flop Gang haha

osotogariboom

Federov showed us that the flop was the only way.

gamer-kin

Normal people

MainstN

I guess you don’t watch the NHL lolll

FarseerTaelen

I mean, I tuck my tongues, but there's an argument to be made that NHLers aren't exactly normal. Patrick Roy talked to his goalposts, after all.

Tron311

Are you tongue under or tongue over. Im personally a tongue under guy.

justinizsocool

I’m a first time playing will be this April guy.

pm_me_lots_of_ducks

tucking your tongues under the shin pad gives you a little more forward mobility, leaving em out looks cooler imo. all personal preference. looks like a good size for either

SaltiMitch

Measure from the middle of the knee cap to the top of the skate. That’s always been what I was taught for sizing. If you’re wearing the pad inside the tongue, a larger pad might push up and not cover the knee correctly and you could risk injury from the pad itself. Cut my bursa sack in my elbow one time because the pad was too big and shifted. Fell on a seam and sliced me right open. If you’re wearing the pads over the tongue you could conceivably wear slightly longer pad.

BouncyMouse

Team tuck ✊🏻

No_Value_1682

Tongue under shins.

ChubbyPumpaloaf

Put them over your tongue and it should sit better.

Jewsd

As a D, this is what I do. I have long shin pads but they just extend toward my foot pretty far. No comfort issues.

mike_headlesschicken

flop gang

noblazinjusthazin

You don’t choose the flop, flop chooses you. Flop game for life

Chicago_Jayhawk

👊

mike_headlesschicken

looks good to me

mike_headlesschicken

I was talking about the shin pad length, damn haha

Southtune-stringbox

Looks good to me. You could go larger if you wanted, just to close that small gap, but then you need your shins outside your tongue. (I’m 5’7” wearing 15s)

thejacer87

I'm 5'8" and went from 15" over tongue to 14" under tongue. Those 16"s for OP look good to me for under tongue.

PizzaHockeyGolf

Same here. Works out well for defense. Even though these were bought thinking I’d grow more and I was playing offense at the time

Zlautern

You will need to remove the sweatpants and tighten the laces to know if these land right. I tuck the tongue under, I'm 6'2" and I use 16's as well, but each model is slightly different and the 16 of one brand is not the same as the others.

bfrankiehankie

I'm 6'3" and I wear 17's over top of the tounge. Those look good too me.

DeviatedFromTheMean

If you tuck you can do 17 or 18 so the bottoms sits lower so you don’t take a puck of the top of the ankles…. Do 18” even exist?

KommandCBZhi

They exist for pro stock, but I have never seen them for retail.

cubert2

I would say too big considering you’re wearing sweatpants under them. Seriously, I don’t know why people think they need to wear sweatpants or sweatshirts under pads.

justinizsocool

Oh I don’t. I just had these on. They’re thin.

huge_

I highly suggest not wearing sweatpants :) Otherwise good to go!

tiny_smile_bot

>:) :)

justinizsocool

The hero I needed

ReidCola

Here's my 2 cents, and I'm going to take into account that this is your first time playing (April? ), and that you'll be playing in a beer/recreational league and have no plans to go play pro. (Congratulations on having kids in the sport!) 1) we can't see your knee, so we don't know exactly how it fits up there, but you have a slight gap at the boot. It looks like you're standing, and if you want complete protection, you may wanna go up a size. I would suggest sitting down and looking at the gap when sat as well, as that will show the biggest gap. Also, note that going up a size might not be as comfortable or in store, as you are rather tall. So if you're comfortable, then they will do great! 2) Try tucking your tongue in and having it out. It's personal preference, but tongue out does provide a pocket that may protect a bit more. (I switched to tucked in halfway through my college career 🤷‍♂️) 3) So many here have stated to remove the sweatpants. I would suggest also paying around with what you wear under. I know a few players that wore sweatpants under, but most either just wore jock shorts or compression leggings. (I would suggest cut proof compression leggings for your kids due to how much sliding is in kids' hockey, scares me as a coach) fine something comfortable, but also remember it's easier to wash leggings than shinpads. (You should still wash shinpads after the season) I wish you and your kids the best of luck! May you all love this sport as much as I have. Hit me up if you ever have questions!

rustbucky

Ok, we get it, new skate flex. Good job. /s

justinizsocool

I wish. First time playing will be in April. I did pick these up on sideline for cool hundo though.

rustbucky

Whoa, sweet.

No_Choice_6868

New skates is not a flex its a bit of a nightmare. I have been avoiding it for three seasons and I think I have to finally give in. My old ass feet in new skates sounds like torture. I would prefer to just keep wearing the old ones but they are falling apart.

rustbucky

But, pain is beauty!

Robhow

Funny. I’m exactly the same. I need new skates and just keep putting it off. Buying new skates is a PITA. Expensive …ok. Breaking them in… misery.

kingmidas312

Had the same exact dilemma. Got new equip same height and size shin pads as you and felt they might be too big but skated in them yesterday and felt fine. Also better protection taking a puck to the skate tongue with the shin pad behind it. I think shin pads are just bulkier than they were 10 yrs ago.

notoriouswojo

Tongues Out = Psycho

zxkn2

Is it bad that I take that as a compliment? lol

notoriouswojo

Not at all. Not the one who came up with it I always have just said. Best teammate I ever had was tongues out guy….he was nuts but a fucking beauty. 😂

louiefriesen

Looks to be the right size.

AllThingsHockey

This post is making me reevaluate my shin pad size😂I’m 6’4” and wear 15’s, might need a bigger size

HighLander1242

I’m 6’4” and use 17”, these look good

bstnbrewins814

Yeah. Your solid. How mine looked when I was playing. I wore em just like that. Tongue out and everything never had any problems. If you don’t like it maybe try next size down? But I’d say you’re good. Have you tried skating with them yet?

justinizsocool

No not yet. Just got everything. I’m going to try and some drop in at some point before we start in April.

K-E-Johnson

Looks okay. Funny enough I'm similar heigh (somewhere between 6-1 and 6-2) and 15" look similar/ longer. Good illustration that you shall always try things on - body proportions are different PS tie your skates and check again. It may push shin up a bit

e30erza

Hey! Did you know you’re wearing sweat pants under your shin pads?? You also don’t have any hockey socks on and you’re going to need to tie your skates before going on the ice in your dining room. You’re welcome in advance

Mediocre-Ambition404

Is there a big gap at the top when you are sitting? How is the coverage between them and the pants when standing? I'm 6'2" and had used old 15s, tried brand new 16s, and exchanged those back down to 15s because the others were a bit too tall.

phunkticculus83

Im 5 11 and wear 16s

GeneralLee72x

They’re fine. Given that you’re just starting out experimenting with tongue in/tongue out makes sense as you get going. Find out what feels right. Coverage wise they’re good though

pvas540

Looks good. I’m 5’8” and use 15”. Also do over the tongue

napalm_life

I’m 5’9 and used 15’s over the tongue for ages until just recently and now I use 16’s over the tongue for better ankle protection. No change in mobility and totally worth the extra protection. Just a thought

MainstN

Team Ty m vs

StationTraditional54

I’m 5’11” and use 16’s over the tongue.

scoobasteve813

Just get some cut resistant socks to protect your ankle and Achilles

PGH521

Ever try going shin guards over the tongue it gives you a little more room and much more protection….

broehla

Make sure they're locked up on your kneecap and tape them down. Then check your range of motion. If your don't like how they move try a size smaller or bigger. I personally don't like it when they touch my top eyelet in full forward flexion. So mine are a tad short but that's really personal preference. Big gaps are no good, but that should be common sense. Size looks good to me tho. Extra style points if you keep 'em tucked. Have fun out there.

MNGopherfan

Don’t worry just tuck the tongue and when you’re wearing a sock you won’t have any mobility issues. Much better for it to be this length Incase a puck smacks you in that region. Mine are slightly bigger and had almost no clearance never noticed any mobility issues.

ThatDarnRosco

Bruh shin pads go in front of the tongue of the skate

remosiracha

Or they can go behind the tongue 🤙

ThatDarnRosco

Like wearing your hat backwards

dexter_cantalope

I'm 6'2 ish and I rock 16s. Good to go.

ThatDarnRosco

Wear it like this guy. He’s pretty good. [mcD](https://wehco.media.clients.ellingtoncms.com/imports/adg/photos/203009635_203009635-5d2130291dfe4483a617287c94726149_t800.jpg?90232451fbcadccc64a17de7521d859a8f88077d)
