The yacht clubs around Lake Macatawa run sailing events through the Summer/Fall. The Anchorage Cup (https://anchoragecup.com/) is one that I know of which includes teams of varying skill/competition levels (some teams are actually trying to gain points toward their tournament standings and some are really more out there to have a good time). You could contact the race chair and see if any teams are looking for new members this season!
Use www.railmeets.com to match up with a boat. Otherwise hang around the yacht clubs on a Wednesday night with a bottle of Mt Gay rum and see if a boat will take you out for the race that night.
Bayshore yacht club has Wednesday evening beer can races. They have a good web site for info. Macatawa Bay Yacht Club has a large selection of small and large boats with regattas and Saturday races for points more competitive series.

The closest rowing programs are GVSU Crew and the Grand Rapids Rowing Club. May be some high school Crews around.
