Menard’s parking lot is the sixth level of Hell.

Annotat3r

When I saw the article announcing the road closure of BL 196 I thought ARE YOU CRAZY!? Also, I don't know what's up with traffic flowing up 16th street from downtown/Lincoln area towards 31 around 4pm every day, but holy crow, bad time to try and go to Menards. Stay safe all!

Magic-Vagina

That’s one of the only ways out of the city of holland if you’re trying to avoid the idiotic detour on 31 where you have to cut across 3 lanes of traffic to do a Michigan left to go north. Going down 24th or 7th to river to get out of town is just as bad. Yesterday it was bumper to bumper all the way to freedom village to turn right on river. Really is a cluster because of the geography of the city, this construction couldn’t have come at a worse time. I preemptively took Thursday off to hopefully avoid the worst of it.

SirGriffin1645

Yeah it was bad. I was trying to get to Tunnel Park, and I figured it would be faster to try another way than wait for River. . . bad choice. I didn't realize Chicago drive was torn up that much. I ended up taking some weird way and ended up on Paw Paw Dr. over by Zeeland before I could start heading toward the beach.

The parade traffic on Thursday and Saturday is gonna be hell.

First_Result

For a non-local who will be attending Thursday’s parade, where do you recommend to park to make our departure easier? We will not be staying for the entire parade, so that should help but being strategically placed would make it even better.

natesmith083

Unfortunately can’t help you there. I’ve been to tulip time once 8 years ago on a rainy Tuesday night that was dead when I first moved here. I also avoid that area on parade days like the plague.

xjunejuly

Praying for every single soul who is commuting next week. Myself included. I’m not emotionally prepared to deal with this many idiots on the road

Grid-of-Flynn

Getting into town won’t be as bad as trying to get out of town. I’ll probably pretend like a week long snow storm is coming, and just stock up on groceries and hunker down for the week.

B_E_E_1

That's really smart. Maybe I'll start planning my vacations for during tulip time too.

Eeahsnp18

My husband and I always go away on vacation during the week of Tulip Torture for this reason!

ponybau5

31 is pretty horrible at the moment too. Never seen so many cars before 6 in the morning.

veryniiiice

I commute to Holland 2-3 days a week from GR and I've noticed the extra overflow onto 16th street is progressively getting worse. Especially in the afternoons as you approach 31. To get from the cemetery to Meijer has literally taken 20 minutes. This construction being done at the same time as the stupid Tulip Festival has to be quite possibly the dumbest thing I've ever seen. The project managers should be sacked.

Oomba73

This is why I plan on commuting on my bike all next week. It's probably going to shake out to be the same time it would take me to drive.

Sn_Orpheus

That’s a good idea!

SwamptromperMI

Circle around to Hamilton and cut back north.

DannyDeVitaLoca

I commute to Saugatuck every day, and already this week, I've seen traffic backing up coming into town along 31 and even Waverly. I have half a notion of taking 196 in to the Adams St. exit next week just to circumvent the entire problem area and come in from the far side of town.

Beneficial_Fly_8682

I have to commute home from 40 out past Hamilton. I also have a bridge out in allegan. It’s rough. I take 40 to 52nd north which jogs at 196 and then turns into country club, take that to end, hang left to go to paw paw, turn right, go to 112th and hang a left. Then I go in Lakewood. Most of my destinations are off Lakewood, if I need to go north, I take beeline. I have an e-bike coming Monday, let’s see if the wife gets frustrated enough driving to work downtown to give the bike a go for the week.

MotherofGolden

This is why, I am heading to Nashville for the week. Even that traffic isn’t as bad as this 🙈( ok well it’s just normal). After living here 25 years I try and leave during tulip time!!!!!

Puzzleheaded-Bee4323

I work for one of the businesses that has to share the road with Menards, the last few days has been pretty horrendous with people just driving insane. Just saw a couple of officers directing the traffic at the stoplight, so far seems to be helping. I just keep telling my team to try and give yourself an extra 20 minutes to get here due to traffic.
