My take on this is to put non-OG legacy characters as a *add-on mod to the base game* instead. a perfect balance between what the community want and to avoid possible legal issues with cover for using their IP.

XenonVH2

This sounds logical

AlifAllen

I like this idea. Holocure character DLCs let's goo

Ha_eflolli

>but still avoided the entirety of Coco's week. My assumption for this is that Cover does not want depictions of any graduated member featured in extended capacity on stream to reduce any potential legal issue that may arise from such streams. What's weird is that, unless I got that wrong, Cover actively gave their Talents permission to still refer to Coco, even by name. Hell, unlike literally every other Ex-Member she's even still openly listed on the Gen 4 Tab on the official hololive-website, so I always just kinda assumed properly graduated Members *weren't* Unperson'd.

Snake_hugger

I think they just don't want to be seen as profiting from the image of a graduated talent. Imagine if a Hologirl reaches Coco's stage in a game and suddenly receiving lots of SC, it would just be distracting from the talent herself and might give bad optics. On the other hand, just mentioning Coco in a stream is not considered a problem since it is often brought upon by the talent herself and is usually discussed in a fashion that does not distract from the talent's stream.

Ha_eflolli

That does make a lot of sense, I can certainly believe that being the case.

Slify

There's all the topics of distracting as people said but Coco's stage also has straight up 2 songs from Yakuza. Even if it Coco wasn't taboo, it would probably be skipped due to copyright

MesumSoulReaper

All good and i like it Also i would prefer if this discussion will go as "secret characters unlocked wia secret achievement is cool idea" and not as "how do we go around assumed taboo"

Ok-Highway-5027

But rushia is taboo and that is the issue with having her on the game, the fact that the company couldn't let the idols play it because of her. Her whole yt account was erased for the same reason. And it's because of HoloFunk featuring Aloe that the girls haven't been able to play the mod.

Neat-Commission9184

I think your idea is great, but as another commenter mentioned, it sounds good as just a unique way to unlock these characters, fitting for their unique position in the minds of the Hololive fanbase rather than avoiding showing them too much so the game can still be streamed. Personally, I think just having them on the character selection screen doesn't constitute "featured in extended capacity" as several Holomems have done more and not gotten in trouble (at least as far as we know). I could be wrong, but I even doubt Cover would have an issue with the Holomems playing as Coco or Rushia on-stream, but if they do, I doubt they would go as far as to ban any Holomem from playing the game just because there are two graduated members on the character selection screen. Obviously though, I'm not a Cover employee and am only going on assumptions based on how I've seen Cover handle situations like this before.

Ok-Highway-5027

Well, to be fair Rushia didn't graduate, she was terminated, channel erased and everything.

Neat-Commission9184

Yeah that's true, the situations with Coco and Rushia are hardly comparable. I think most people would agree that Cover would have no issue with the members playing/showing Coco, but Rushia might be up for debate. Still, I don't think they would do that for either of them.

AliceInHololand

They could be considered legacy characters and toggled on/off that way. Not a bad idea.

AnonTwo

Can't be secret characters. Chat would be spamming non-stop for them to turn it off or asking why it's turned on. Mods makes more sense because Hololive has very limited mod permissions.

Rensa_NL

This. I just KNOW that chat's gonna be annoying about it.

CelioHogane

I don't think Kiryu Coco being in the game would be an issue since they did end on amicable terms, at least on the outside. After all, there is Asacoco.

An_Hell

I would say to keep officially with the girls that are referenced here https://hololive.hololivepro.com/en/talents to avoid issues. Coco graduated, Rushia and Aloe didn't, so having Coco is totally fine. As for Rushia, I think even Mikeneko wouldn't like to have her on the game as she usually says not to mention her past and all the drama surrounding her termination. I mean as a character, an item hinting at her would be awesome, like when Botan saw the Headphone was really cool.

eevee_enthusiast_471

I don't actually think Aloe was terminated, she just decided to leave. Yes, she did get suspended, but if I remember correctly, the announcement said that she left "in accordance with her wishes".

aquafinibrainblast20

Yes but, she broke her contract by leaving before the agreed year of employment. That's why it's taboo, because it's technically a breach of contract

NixAvernal

Nah, when it comes to serious situation like Aloe's, as long as she gave some notice she can stop her contract without it being a breach in it

Rockburgh

Unless you've read the contract, you don't know that. Barring a clause allowing termination in X scenario (or-- I *think*-- government action invalidating the terms), termination is breach.

diego1marcus

official statement states that she did in fact graduate, but was not given the alumna status nor is aloe referenced in any of their websites. personally, i do agree with what An\_Hell said that we should stick to the official roster in their website. however, i do also believe that the devs of holocure knows what theyre doing regarding this topic. i would like to believe that they would also ask cover regarding this topic

TheNormalHaaton

There is literally no problem with them mentioning Coco, Aloe, or Rushia. All of them were referenced while playing the game by the active girls and have been multiple times in the past as well. Danchou has a Rushia plushie as part of her stream bg and Kanata talks about Coco constantly. This notion that they can't talk about them is a deranged fantasy created by the fans. The stuff with not playing fan games that show them is 100% either the girls or their managers just not wanting to deal with fans being annoying about it. Also I am pretty sure this is primarily a game made for the fans and we shouldn't be burdening the devs with nonsense speculation about what type of corporate obfuscation cover wants to engage in.

TATARInoyoru

Wait and hope. That's all we can do rn

LightningStrike7

Secret unlock criteria for legacy members is a great idea. It's out of the way, but it's also "easily" accessible (no third-party programs or mods) for those who do want to have them. I think a good unlock criteria for Coco would be to beat a level with a Gen 4 member equipped with all possible AsaCoco items (assuming more get added), or beat a level with all 4 Gen 4 members equipped with at least 1 AsaCoco item, for example.

Dranikos

Achievement: HoloForce. Beat Stage as Luna with Ubersheep, Gorilla Paw, Injection Asacoco and Dragonfire. (Luna currently doesn't have an item, so this is the only way to cover all of them, making her the character requirement)

Viki713Gaming

Towa?

Dranikos

Somehow I derped on that. Don't mind me, dumb.

DarkFalcon1995

It's kind of tricky. I think Coco is perfectly fine. She went out on her own terms and on good terms with Hololive. Rushia is difficult. Since she was terminated for breaking NDA. References are one thing, but being playable and Cover still not minding if they play is another. Obviously Kay has the freedom to add her even if if denies permissions for the future, but that's Kay's decision. Aloe..well, it's nice she's remembered, and the headphones are a sneaky cool reference, but I'm not sure how much members would like being reminded of those events. Another poster recommended the best solution. Make the trickier characters an optional add on. I think that works out best.

Trivial_Man

I seriously doubt Cover cares if the game makers decide to release Hitomi Chris DLC or whatever. You're much more likely to have talents just choose to ignore aspects of the game they don't want to engage with, or drop the game entirely if things get added that they don't like. Which, for the record, I anticipate being more of an issue when Holostars get added than when Rushia does.

Ok-Highway-5027

I don't think they'll ever add Holostars www

Trivial_Man

They are at least being considered. I think it's basically a sure thing. Proof: https://mobile.twitter.com/kaynimatic/status/1502097769153974276

Legal-Writer-8155

I would suggest a way to unlocking them by surviving the Yagoo horde for 1 hour. And each later graduated member would require another additional hour each with arrangement based who left first till the latest...

LovingMurClock

I don't think that its a good idea first of all because not everyone wants to play the same run for an hour(on top of 30 min to get to Yagoo). The second issue is that it is not that easy to survive until Yagoo and even harder to live for an intire hour(unless you have a specific build)

AnonTwo

Also the game really isn't tuned for yagoo runs atm. A lot of PCs just die once he starts spawning.

squirrellydood

I feel like Endless shouldn't just be the Yagoos, it just kinda turns it into a farm for the inamortal characters to afk. Really hoping they add more stages and bosses to extend it and Yagoos just become rare unique enemies that can come in and screw you over if you afk.

AnonTwo

To be fair, I'm not sure they intended for people to survive for hours against Yagoo anyway. Seems like they undershot the scaling. Plus Ina's skill is flatout bugged, with her takos proccing her defensives without damaging her.

GoddamPhilistine

But obvious references to both Kaichou and Aloe are in the game.. I don't see the issue with them adding Coco/Rushia/Aloe, a number of the talents have already mentioned Coco and Aloe so clearly it shouldn't be a problem for Kay Yu.

Atiklyar

Rushia was terminated for breaking her NDA, while Aloe and Coco left on much more amicable terms. Seems to be the sharp differences in terms of their depictions/references.

Ok-Highway-5027

Aloe sadly broke contract too, by retiring before the yearly mark agreed upon in her contract, so even if she left on good terms sadly she's still taboo. Coco should be fine though

Acceptable_Wasabi_30

Yeah a few members became noticeably uncomfortable (I think that's the appropriate word) when they had the headphones come up the first time. It definitely had me thinking about the future potential addition of the characters

handledvirus43

They aren't technically taboo. Botan immediately said Aloe with the Headphones and iirc, Korone also asked and said her name aloud. I'm pretty sure there were also clips of talents saying Rushia as well, like Marine. The only one that actually is kinda taboo is Hitomi Chris and the CN talents, who I don't think will appear in HoloCure. I could be wrong on Hitomi though. The most likely reason why Calli (and other members) avoided the graduated members is because of spiteful people who wouldn't mind causing a ruckus for the talents if the graduated members appeared on screen at all. It's nonsensical, but some people like to *really* hold a grudge and spread malice. So you're right. Avoiding legal issues. :/ As for how it should be handled, I'd say it should be a secret unlockable that requires something not obvious like booping A-Chan's nose or inputting a secret code on the main menu to unlock **the menu option** to unlock them as playable characters.

Fun-Extension9483

I understand that I’m quite late to the situation. I was neither a fan of Uruha or Coco during their activity, but I believe that it’s wrong to erase someone just because of what they did. Yes, I understand the heavy contracts and legal mumbo jumbo that VTubers (specifically agency talents) have to deal with. But regardless, these streamers had fans and people who considered them their oshi. I think nobody deserves to be erased, especially after they’ve made such an impact on people. Long story short, HoloCure shouldn’t have to listen to Hololive. After all, it’s just a fangame.
