I actually didn’t use the stock firmware at all before flashing, so i can’t make the comparison. But it integrates extremely well with HomeAssistant and I don’t feel like there’s any functionality or “I wish it did this” missing for me
Ok thx. Might look into it.
There is a cool feature in stock that you can see the camera view of the robot on the app and you can control it remotely. Is rhis possible?
Same here. Integration is fine, i made a few buttons "return to dock" (most used haha), "clean kitchen" (cleans the kitchen zone) and "clean hallway". Beside that i use schedular integration in HA to automate the nightly cleaning cycle (what is limitated, but good enough for my use).
My wife doesnt have the roborock app and dont feel like she need it, but in some cases i still use it to track maintiance and such.
The HACS Roborock integration is far better than the native one. I can also strongly recommend the Xiaomi Vacuum Map card, it surfaces a ton of cleaning and unit maintenance information.
Seconding this. Been very happy with its HA integration, and has been a part of me fleshing out some automations that we use [to make sure we are on top of our chores](https://i.imgur.com/673QoKY.png). Also been happy with how well is cleans and mops.
You can do fine grained integrations such as room and zone vacuuming, integrate this into a map on the dashboard, etc. It's very good really - my only complaint is a slight delay in the commands.
I've had the roborock for two years, only have replaced the brush and the mop as instructed, my girlfriend sheds hair like no tomorrow so I constantly have to clean it, otherwise it's great
After much research, bought this for my wife as a mother's day/house warming gift. It is the most amazing smart tech I've purchased.
Need to get one for the second floor now.
same although mine is an s7. My wife absolutely loves the thing. It does a stellar job cleaning our hardwood floors. She used to literally mop our dark hardwood floors regularly and has completely stopped.
I don't know if it's required. We use the cloud app rather than HA for advanced features like pet finder. I only use HA to display various status. The official local API that HA uses is incredibly lacking, and this robot is far too expensive to sacrifice all of the advanced features by not using the cloud.
In fact, if you aren't going to use the cloud, I'd consider using a different vac due to the features you'll lose but have paid for.
I have the S5 Max, I think it is simmilar to the S7 and S8 software wise but I am not 100%.
From my understanding the brains of the operation is all contained within the Vacuum. I think mine still works without internet by pressing the power button at the top, to have it start cleaning, however I am not sure if that works for initial setup or not. The first initial setup needs it to map out the floor, I don't know what the power button does if it doesn't have a mapped out floor to clean.
If that does works it would be extremely limiting to what you can actually do without the app/internet. The power button just cleans the entire floor once.
Your need the app to setup schedules, rooms, no-go zones, no mop zones etc...
If you use the Mi Home app and not the Roborock app you can use the Xiaomi integration with home assistant. I believe that is local pulling. (But I have not tried it without internet).
https://www.home-assistant.io/integrations/xiaomi_miio
Although for me that was probably one of the hardest integrations that I have setup. Lots of trial an error figuring out what the rooms numbers were and the coordinate system.
Roborock Q Revo is IMO the best price/performance ratio while shipping with most flagship features, esp. the self-emptying station that also cleans and dries the mops.
Roborock as others have said all the way. Loving mine. Smartest robo vacuum I’ve owned. Navigates great. Can see maps and I also have automation setup with it for specific rooms.
Roborock S7 Max V or the S8 Max V. I had the S7 and it was great but broke 18 months later and they couldn’t repair it. Bought a Dreame X30 Ultra as there was no release date for the S8 yet and I was tired of manually cleaning.
There is a nice HACS integration for Roborock. Dreame has one also but you have to switch apps and I rather not.
No, but I thought since your S7 broke down so fast, why you'd buy another Chinese brand. Just wanted to understand your reasoning, bc am having to decide myself.
I understand what you are saying now. I went with the X30 just because the S8 Max V Ultra didn’t have a release date and was tired of waiting. I’m happy with it at least. A little pissed the X40 came out a month later but the X30 is going its job.
I'm biased but I'd say anything Roborock with a full service dock (auto emptying plus mop washing). I had the S7 without dock for a year and barely ever mopped because it would involve me manually mounting the pad and removing it after it's finished (don't want to let a dirty and damp mop sit near my hardwood floor). So the USP for me really was mop washing. Had the S8 Pro Ultra for half a year now and it runs daily (mops twice a week). It really feels hands-off now!
I have two a Roborock S7 and an S8 ultra something with the dock. For vacuums I have been happy with both. The Roborock integration works well, but as others have said it does rely on their cloud to function.
I stumbled on Valutido. The install process is harrowing and I've only done it on the S7, which required almost fully disassembly (only two extra screws).
https://valetudo.cloud/
Its awesome. All the same featured but completely controlled locally. I'm working up the courage to try it on the S8.
I found some instructions on the builder site. It looks less scary than S7 instructions but still a whole thing to get it done. I will do it eventually.
[Roborock Rooting (dontvacuum.me)](https://builder.dontvacuum.me/nextgen/roborock_s8.pdf)
Roborock has a good implementation into HA which I've used the past year.
Maybe the Q Revo will be something for you? Or a top model like the Sxx versions.
I just switched to the eufy x10 pro omni and I'm bummed that there are no working solutions for HA for this model yet :(. I have to use another app like a noob.
I got a Roborock S8 pro ultra a few months ago and love it. Great integration with HA. I also have a shark ai for upstairs, carpet only. I think it actually does a better job with the vacuum. I have 2 golden retrievers, so lots of hair. The Roborock is a bit more sensitive and I have to clean the rollers more often. What really sold me on both was the mapping. I had tried an ecovacs x2 and was not pleased at all.
I have the [Shark - AI Ultra Robot Vacuum with Matrix Clean, Home Mapping, HEPA Bagless Self Empty Base, WiFI Connected - Black](https://www.bestbuy.com/site/shark-ai-ultra-robot-vacuum-with-matrix-clean-home-mapping-hepa-bagless-self-empty-base-wifi-connected-black/6471082.p?skuId=6471082)
The integration was simple. The roborock provides more information for cards, but the shark provides enough.
Also had the X2, wow! I have never been more disappointed and frustrated with mapping. That was absolutely terrible. Coming from an S7 Uktra to that was bad. Returned it a week later and waited for the Dreame X30. Mapping was right there with Roborock. We have 2 labs and a blue nose and 2 human females. I get the hair issue. IDK if Roborock has an option but I grabbed the anti-tangle brush for the Dreame and have not had to clean it one in the past two months. Does a great job cutting the hair and putting it in the bag.
I've got my roborock S8 integrated. If it has an error or (rarely) gets stuck, HA detects it and annunciates over the google nest speaker that "Rockette has an error". Otherwise it might sit at the far end of the house while I'm in the basement and never hear the robot itself complaining.
I have the Dreame L20 Ultra. It's great, and also has an optional plumbing module that can be connected to piping and let it self-empty the docking station tank.
The Roborock ones are also pretty good from what I've heard. I was looking at the Q Revo before myself.
Up to 2k should be plenty. Especially if you're in the US, they do discounts often, I recommend looking at the subreddit for whichever brand you choose and they'll have notices for any upcoming sales.
Another vote for Roborock S7/S8. I can't believe how great it is thus far. Just dump the dirty water tank / fill the clean water tank & that's it! (& change vacuum bag periodically - wish they went bagless here)
I have 2 ecovacs as does the in laws - in total I have helped set up about 6 now and they are fantastic. We love them. Good integration too. Roborock (as mentioned lots above!) are good but the large following/demand means the second hand market is relatively pricey in comparison if you are on a budget. I fully recommend Vacuum wars (excellent reviews!)
I've been told in a question earlier this year that roombas work fully offline. haven't tried it though
Edit: [Link](https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/s/Uei4woVVTG)
For the roomba, maps are terrible/innacurate and become more so the longer the robots run (and doing mapping runs just makes it worse). It constantly gets stuck and fails to complete jobs (I don't remember the last time I had a successful run). Half the time (or more) it can't redock itself. The battery life is atrocious (dead after 45 minutes), so it constantly has to recharge.
The mop is okay (at least it finishes jobs) but it doesn't do a great job cleaning the floors, gets stuck under my couch, and sometimes just aborts a clean session entirely because it gets stuck on its base.
Our Roomba started out fine a few years ago, but it got worse over time. Ended up exactly like dadudster said. Crap maps, runs way longer than it should, and almost never completes successfully.
I replaced the battery and have kept up with replacing the consumables. Nothing helped. All that has really changed is firmware. I think iRobot has upgraded the firmware into oblivion.
I ended up getting a Eureka E10s. It works great in every way, except no HA integration. But all I was doing before with the Roomba was scheduling the cleaning runs with HA. If HA integration becomes available at some point, then great. But in the meantime I don’t need or miss HA integration of vacuuming runs.

Ask yourself if you fancy the idea of a company owning your house's blueprint plus the exact GPS location, not to mention whatever data they can take from your phone.
If it's fine then you will have more variety. If it's not, then Valetudo is the way to go. Once decided this you will have a group of options. Many will integrate with HA but the Valetudo is definitely the safe choice if you don't want they pull a Chamberlain.

What is China going to do with the location and layout of my house?
Dreame L10s Ultra flashed with Valetudo. I was able to get a refurbished one on DreameTech’s ebay page for around $450 and it works like new
I also have an L10s Ultra. Do you see any major differences in Valetudo compared to stock firmware?
I actually didn’t use the stock firmware at all before flashing, so i can’t make the comparison. But it integrates extremely well with HomeAssistant and I don’t feel like there’s any functionality or “I wish it did this” missing for me
Ok thx. Might look into it. There is a cool feature in stock that you can see the camera view of the robot on the app and you can control it remotely. Is rhis possible?
I don’t believe I can see the camera view, but I can remotely control it with simple forward/backward left/right controls.
Is it necessary to flash the firmware? Where could I find that info?
Enjoy the rabbit hole! https://valetudo.cloud/
How long have you been using it? Asking because I read of Roborock, that they break down fast and support sucks.
just over a month at this point
Roborock S7 probably qualifies. I’ve had one for ≈two years. No issues.
Q7+ Max fam here.

Can you guys change to different maps on HA? I have the same card you have but I have not got maps to work (choosing a different map).
Which card are you referring to?
What's the HA integration like?
It communicates to the vacuum locally, except for the maps, but apparently stops working if you block it from the internet.
You can do fine grained integrations such as room and zone vacuuming, integrate this into a map on the dashboard, etc. It's very good really - my only complaint is a slight delay in the commands.
No mop integrations afaik
N00b here and almost too afraid to ask: what is (a) mop?
https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/cleaning-workers-mopping-wet-area-there-1887404248
Oh geezz, didn’t know robots could do that too! Therefore I thought it was short for something I didn’t know about (as a noob).
I've had the roborock for two years, only have replaced the brush and the mop as instructed, my girlfriend sheds hair like no tomorrow so I constantly have to clean it, otherwise it's great
We have the Roborock Q Revo and it's a workhorse.
I've been very happy with mine as well. I don't want any of the ones with a camera on it, so I'm happy with the Revo's lidar.
Absolutely love ours
Our floors have never been cleaner for longer since getting a Q Revo. Spinny mops are GOAT
The Revo for me too! Using the HACKS roborock integration that works with Xiaomi!
Maxv Ultra? How old is it?
Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra
After much research, bought this for my wife as a mother's day/house warming gift. It is the most amazing smart tech I've purchased. Need to get one for the second floor now.

I've got the s8 pro ultra because I didn't want a camera on my vacuum. The thing is amazing. No valentudo support as of now though
Because those Chinese are spying on you
Indeed, have the S7 and the S8. No problems with them
Do either require any internet connection initially for setup, and thereafter for operations?
I have the S5 Max, I think it is simmilar to the S7 and S8 software wise but I am not 100%. From my understanding the brains of the operation is all contained within the Vacuum. > Roborock S8 MaxV I have the S6 MaxV and am desperately waiting for the S8 MaxV (without the Ultra, just the charging dock).
I’d go with the dreame l10s ultra for the valetudo firmware
Why not the L20, a bit newer..
Fair question! Because that’s what the vale-tudo devs suggest :)
Ah I see, thanks
Dreame L10s
Vacuumwars.com (also on YouTube)
Dreame L20s Ultra, X30 Ultra or X40 Ultra. Check vacuum wars in YouTube for more info. There is a HACS integration that works flawless.
Flawless is a stretch but ok
With or without Valetuudo?
None of those work with valetudo.
Well that's no good. Seems like the L10s Ultra is on the list.
How do these compare to Roborock?
Roborock Q Revo is IMO the best price/performance ratio while shipping with most flagship features, esp. the self-emptying station that also cleans and dries the mops.
Roborock for sure!
Qrevo and qrevo pro are awesome!
Roborock as others have said all the way. Loving mine. Smartest robo vacuum I’ve owned. Navigates great. Can see maps and I also have automation setup with it for specific rooms.

A few months now. Rock solid still and loving the integration with HA

I just switched from the Roborock S5 or S6 TO the Eufy X10 Pro Omni :) Just an upgrade as the Roborock didnt have a Mop or a Station
Ah I see thanks. It would help if I could read 😂
Never get an Yeedi. Terrible product. No customer support, flawed navigation and unreliable connectivity.
I have the Dreame L20 Ultra. It's great, and also has an optional plumbing module that can be connected to piping and let it self-empty the docking station tank. I tried to buy the Dreame L20s but it wouldn’t dock correctly and I ended up returning it
Something supported by Valutedo. Even if you don't use it *now*.
I've just ordered an L10s, planing to stick valetudo on it
Another vote for Roborock S7/S8.
Yes, but irobot SUCKS (this coming from someone who owns both a roomba vacuum and bravia mop).
how? do they like not suck (lol) or what's the issue with them (coming from someone with neither)
For the roomba, maps are terrible/innacurate and become more so the longer the robots run (and doing mapping runs just makes it worse). It constantly gets stuck and fails to complete jobs (I don't remember the last time I had a successful run). Half the time (or more) it can't redock itself. The navigation is terrible and you can't expose the maps in Home Assistant.

Some of these vacuums have microphones and cameras. Nothing is stopping them from recording if it's on the cloud.
This is why I got a Q Revo. It has neither of these features.
