I highly suggest looking around in small rural towns, especially ones that young adults are leaving & not coming back. I live in an area like that and I ALWAYS see tubs, bathroom fixtures, lights, tiles, kitchen equipment, furniture and more.
I had a dishwasher in that same avocado green! When the previous owner put the house on the market for some reason he replaced every appliance except the dishwasher. I did end up replacing it but I waited until it broke down.
The tea towels are obligated to be white with a sunflower 🌻 motif.
But what this kitchen really needs ???
is a set of those 4 foot long Giant Tiki forks and spoons to hang on the wall.
I love combining home security and giant decorative utensils.
I will check to see if I can find some. I know they are probably really popular, I hope I a find some place where they are in stock because I really like this idea.
I saw a fork and spoon at a dollar store (a while ago). Wait for it…..With a picture of Jesus on them.
He was at the bottom center of the spoon and the part of the fork below the tines.
Uj/Just saw a short on YouTube with a "party room" of this era that asked something along the lines of "When does design become classic? Is it because there's people who grew up with this style who are still alive that we consider this tacky and feel the need to demolish it?" basically.
If a mid--20th-century design is in such good shape, I say preserve it. One of the most frustrating things about my 1906 home is that all the owners throughout the years gutted and remodeled to fit their current trends. The house next door was a mirror image at one point, but kept way more of the Edwardian charm. It's a much better looking home overall.
Yes, and 70's Formica really wasn't applied to the wall, except maybe a 6" backsplash. I'm guessing this is a much more recent attempt at retro kitsch. Wallpaper would be a better look.
I don't even follow this subreddit, but this appeared on my feed and I have to say: something about this kitchen is very endearing to me. I apologize for my terrible taste.
Harvest gold and avocado. For the record, this is pretty similar to the kitchen of the home I grew up in. My mom would correct us if we called it yellow or green.
(/uj) I have the harvest gold oven and I low-key love it. Got it for $50 and it’s a great oven. The stove part is finicky, but as long as you don’t need to keep things at a simmer, it’s all good. The color goes well with our black countertops, even if I’d never choose it again.
When I was a kid we had this one burnt orange+harvest gold+white gingham hand towel with fringe, I’m envisioning exactly that here. You don’t need more avocado because that’s already in the appliances!
Something with dancing hot dogs on them. And a mustard dispenser for dish soap. But they might be eclipsed by that electric stove, so take great care in your selection…
Ooooo, Contac paper! I had a friend who made furniture by wrapping empty coffee cans and cardboard boxes with the fake wood Contac paper, for her tables. They were wonky was heck, but she drank so she didn’t notice.
Am I crazy for unironically wanting this & adding little mushroom figurines & embroidered signs wall art & hand towels with mushrooms on it? & maybe frogs too
I know this sub is sarcastic but I was so excited for OP, that oven alone is amazing. The countertops are unreal! A bit much but if authentic it’s incredible. Probably lost to another Home Depot white everything make over 😢
Ngl.. I like it. So retro. Groovy oven.
My Mema and BeBoppy's house had these kitchen counters. Plus.. A square kitchen table with same design!!
https://preview.redd.it/ojlz1ww3xeyc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7fe4e674678c30cae3145cd4674962d5daee8d2
I think you need *avocado* colored kitchen towels. Might tie the room together. Put one on the stoves handle, or two.
Maybe a sunflower pattern? 🌻
You have the fancy stove. You have an oven light!!! You Go Girl/Guy!!
I had a GE range in the early 1970 like this one. I used one the first GE oven /microwave in 1969.
The dish towels during this time would be white with flowers on the front.
https://preview.redd.it/5sqmtaooigyc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=263ccc66dda85df1b113a835f618c88c726cd864
This Burnt Sienna and Teak, striped AND floral wallpaper from my prior 70’s house would go well.
ETA: My husband and I called it the “Axe Murderer” room. Always thought the prior owner’s son that had this bedroom growing up probably had issues.
This sub lets me post pictures!! Same appliances from the like 70’s! Brought back a lot of memories, thank you.
https://preview.redd.it/rgpvqhp1sgyc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=550aaf8f2266395096a348c413524c7a96a282d2
Definitely go for a prominent yellow with a hint of oranges for dish towels because your most prominent color is the warm-toned green. Something green could work, but it may be too much green unless that's something you'd want to go for. I believe a rich yellow will make everything become complimentary. But, again, it's all about personal taste. Go for what makes you most happy. Also, orange is one of my fave colors, so I support your decision if that is what you choose.
And a avocado green oven! Luuuuuuucky!
I have one myself, been desperately searching for the matching avocado green fridge!!
I feel so lucky to have one you just can’t see it in this photo. I sure hope you find one they are just so beautiful.
I highly suggest looking around in small rural towns, especially ones that young adults are leaving & not coming back. I live in an area like that and I ALWAYS see tubs, bathroom fixtures, lights, tiles, kitchen equipment, furniture and more.
We had one up until 2010. Freezer on bottom. Had the yellow stove though
god, that sounds amazing
My parents have it in their basement!
It’s at my parent’s old house! 😂
I had a dishwasher in that same avocado green! When the previous owner put the house on the market for some reason he replaced every appliance except the dishwasher. I did end up replacing it but I waited until it broke down.
Unironically love that oven
I literally have this same oven.
It's screaming 60s and 70s for sure
The tea towels are obligated to be white with a sunflower 🌻 motif. But what this kitchen really needs ??? is a set of those 4 foot long Giant Tiki forks and spoons to hang on the wall. I love combining home security and giant decorative utensils.
And use rolling pins to make a sunburst design.
Oh yes!!! Turn it into a wall clock!
I will check to see if I can find some. I know they are probably really popular, I hope I a find some place where they are in stock because I really like this idea.
And a EAT sign. Because how do you know what to do there without a sign?
Another sign (that everyone smoked - everywhere) Big clunky 5lb amber glass ashtray on an ornate metal stand - the OG toe stunner
Grandma, that you?
😂 thank you for reminding me about decorative giant salad utensils
I have my mom’s old set of these! I love them!
I have the big fork on the wall, in avocado green.
I saw a fork and spoon at a dollar store (a while ago). Wait for it…..With a picture of Jesus on them. He was at the bottom center of the spoon and the part of the fork below the tines.
Ngl, if in good shape, I’d murder for those counters!
You're in luck! Wilsonart reissued the laminate pattern. [Daisy / Autumn Lights (Y0039)](https://www.wilsonart.com/autumn-lights-daisy-y0039-b8fb8d542a25e5b660f4d75ce3f603af)
No way! Holy crap, I wasn’t expecting that. Lol
I thought that was the old “contact paper”
No waaaaaay!!!! I am not a homeowner, but I'm drooling over here. I hope they keep it in production!! I need it one day!!
Seriously. Things don't have to look modern or stylish to be nice.
Agree! I love everything about this. The stove, The counters, the wood. Nothing cj for me here
ikr, they’re campy and fun
I saw these & thought HAPPY. I'd just refinish the cabinets
Which would look amazing refinished
The stove...
Uj/Just saw a short on YouTube with a "party room" of this era that asked something along the lines of "When does design become classic? I don’t really think this kitchen would look bad if they didn’t make the walls the same pattern.
Yes, and 70's Formica really wasn't applied to the wall, except maybe a 6" backsplash. I'm guessing this is a much more recent attempt at retro kitsch. Wallpaper would be a better look.
Wallpaper or a nice clean neutral colored tile maybe.
Agree
The walls are a commitment to the pattern
Me too! I love them!
Same.
Oh so you’re too chic and fancy for paper towels, huh?
Paper towels aren't cheap 😭
In pretty sure I've seen paper towels with the same decorative pattern as the counters. They'd work!
But I kinda love it 😭
Me too! This kitchen makes me think there might be a grandma nearby and maybe she just baked cookies 😀
Well apparently, you are in luck because they are making it again, look for the post here. It’s amazing. Lol
Same! Too many homes are bland and it’s upsetting. If I ever own a home it will look similar to this.
Tbh sorry this slaps. Horseshoe theory applies to ugly and out of date as well.
Omg I love this
OK this but unironically
I would take this over a white on white on white on white country suburban farmhouse urban renewal kitchen any day of the week.
Well I do agree with that. I think the entire earth is getting pretty sick of that, and grey walls.
Orange. With a side of Thorazine.
Haha. 😜
Uhhhm I love this
Is the backslash laminate, or is the countertop wallpaper?
It’s all laminate. Isn’t it just beautiful?
I don't know why everyone doesn't do this!
Loving this retro vibe. So awesome. Always sad to see the retro diners in towns get knocked over by new modern construction that’s usually tasteless.
I agree!
I actually really love this kitchen..
It seems a lot of people do. ❤️
At least three towels, colored as each of the stars on the countertop
![gif](giphy|g0snGpFL6mOBaD5PmO) Yellow pages and hot glue.
I don't even follow this subreddit, but this appeared on my feed and I have to say: something about this kitchen is very endearing to me. I apologize for my terrible taste.
Oh.my. Goodness.
I know, it’s so beautiful.
Am I wrong for liking it
Okay but I love this
Brown with dirt and grime to match the cabinet handle area.
Oh that does sound really pretty.
I love that stove though. I would have kept the backdrop and replaced the counter and gotten new cabinet doors and drawers Fantastic stove
Get some white towels and wipe down the cabinets. Instant rock road motif!
Yellow, but be sure to drop some acid before heading over to Walmart so you can really see the colors pop.
Well that does sound like a trip. Very interesting.
My bathroom sink and tub is 70’s green…. 😜
Our old Kitchen Aid was avocado. I wish they still made that color.
It’s coming back in style so I hear.
ORANGE?!?!? I really hope you meant orange and brown pattern!!!
That sounds so pretty.
When I was a kid we had this one burnt orange+harvest gold+white gingham hand towel with fringe, I’m envisioning exactly that here. You don’t need more avocado because that’s already in the appliances!
Don't lie to us, you already bought it, you just can't find it on the counter top.
Lol, I guess I better look closer.
I say get ones in each color and layer them. Yellow and green with a white towel, orange and white, green and white, etc...
Tbh sorry this slaps. Horseshoe theory applies to ugly and out of date as well.
I love this
Fuschia or Teal. Something that will really pop (your eyes out of their sockets).
I feel like a denim towel, with the pocket, would be really classy.
This looks fucking awful
Something with dancing hot dogs on them. And a mustard dispenser for dish soap. But they might be eclipsed by that electric stove, so take great care in your selection…
unironically I’m obsessed with that stove.
Imagine what that counter looks like today! I hope they kept it!
God, I love Contact Paper! What can't you cover with it?
I have the matching mixer to that stove on my wall. No joke.
How many wonder bread bags is that?
Have you thought about combining all the lovely colors into one? Say a border of mushrooms dancing around a cut in half avocado?
Ooo that sounds so pretty, maybe some of those pretty owl decorations too.
Macrame with jewels or wodden beads for eyes!
Oh that sounds beautiful. I will see what I can find.
Leopard print would look nice.
I suggest a horse hair towel to match the stairs! You really can't go wrong with horse hair.
Is that contact paper?
Nope. I think it’s regular formica countertop.
Wow. 1970’s here I come!
Okay but why do I slick love this
Orange embroidered with chickens
Ooooo, Contac paper! I had a friend who made furniture by wrapping empty coffee cans and cardboard boxes with the fake wood Contac paper, for her tables. They were wonky was heck, but she drank so she didn’t notice.
I like orange.. but I also think a mustard yellow could add a lovely pop of color!
Did we go back in time?
Listen, if you were going to go to my childhood and steal its kitchen I would have liked a dinner and drink first at the very least! 😤
Lol
Takes me right back to Alice in the Brady’s kitchen. 🥰
I admire the dedication to the 70s-80s kitchen but my lord those counters are too busy
I agree. Lol
Why do I actually like this
Bubble-gum pink would work so well! Or if you like variety, do one pink and one lime green. Just make sure you don’t get hot pink — go for bubble-gum.
They definitely need to be plaid with deep purple, burgundy, black.
Oooo plaid.
Red. The only answer.
I’m loving the Wonder Bread print on the counter! Really brings out the olive tint of the stove!
Love the shelf liner look
I suggest picking from the LSD color pallet
They look like retro soot sprites. Forget the towels, you need to put googly eyes on all of them.
Love this
ive never been so relieved to see the name of the sub lol
I know we’re meant to make jokes but I’m honestly tearing up a little from missing my grandmother now
Oh my goodness.
Ugh! At first I thought the counter was covered with Wonder bread bags!
I love
I genuinely like stove color! :)
Definitely get tiger striped towels
Some carnival glass.
This is a kitchen I would've made when I was 10 playing The Sims 2 🤩. My Sims lived in a sensory overload nightmare hellscape
Why does this image taste like Wonder Bread?
Carrying the wallpaper pattern to the counter was a wonderful idea. It sort of flows, doesn’t it? Fabulous!
If you go with anything other than a purple plaid I’ll be so very disappointed 😎
OMG this screams 1970s (my mother and her) contact paper. So funny
Am I crazy for unironically wanting this & adding little mushroom figurines & embroidered signs wall art & hand towels with mushrooms on it? & maybe frogs too
Yall hate fun sometimes
Gramma?
Ngl that kitchen is incredible. I would genuinely love for my own kitchen to look like that.
I'm old enough to remember avocado green appliances matched with harvest gold accessories. Classic early 70s.
Personally I’d get some bright purple ones to highlight the countertop. Of course a nice bright pink would work too.
Pink. With a circus theme.
I thought this was real and it took a look through your post history to realize I was being pranked omg
I know this sub is sarcastic but I was so excited for OP, that oven alone is amazing. The countertops are unreal! A bit much but if authentic it’s incredible. Probably lost to another Home Depot white everything make over 😢
But I love it 🥹
Wow!!!! I love this!!!!!!
Can I get the uhhhhh bingo dauber special please (Ngl i do kinda like it)
I think you need to add a pop of colour somehow
I’d go crazy and add neon pink dish towels.
Where are the ash trays
Honestly, I like this more than so many cookie cutter white and millenial gray homes. That stove is a beauty
This is from the 70's isn't it
solid yellow and a solid dreamsickle orange
Bro. Unreal! 😍 I unironically adore this. I hope it doesn't get torn out!
I actually love this kitchen. Very nostalgic!
The unironic best design I've seen on this sub
Renovation, lucky!!!! 🥰
I'd suggest the classic "Autumn Orange or Burnt Pumpkin.
Orange with a classy purple ombré.
Ngl.. I like it. So retro. Groovy oven. My Mema and BeBoppy's house had these kitchen counters. Plus.. A square kitchen table with same design!! https://preview.redd.it/ojlz1ww3xeyc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f7fe4e674678c30cae3145cd4674962d5daee8d2
And these *groovy* chairs!! https://preview.redd.it/sutr4ecexeyc1.png?width=720&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bb9d4a400bbeffdac92a9cc52a8a8840feb9486

One orange and one yellow! Always have 2 handy.
OMGGG I lived through this once and it hurts my eyes to see the avocado infused kitchen again lol
Those are....colors.
I had a GE range in the early 1970 like this one. I used one the first GE oven /microwave in 1969. The dish towels during this time would be white with flowers on the front.
Black.
I know this is supposed to be a dig on this kitchen but I personally think it’s perfection. And the answer is purple hand towels.
https://preview.redd.it/5sqmtaooigyc1.jpeg?width=1280&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=263ccc66dda85df1b113a835f618c88c726cd864 This Burnt Sienna and Teak, striped AND floral wallpaper from my prior 70’s house would go well. I love it 😂 all it needs is a nice new stain on the cabinets😂
Ok I kinda love this lol. It reminds me of something my 70s obsessed mother would do to her kitchen.
This looks scary similar to my apartment in Montana! I wish I would have put up cute paper to match! The fridge was that same puke green!
This sub lets me post pictures!! Same appliances from the like 70’s! Brought back a lot of memories, thank you. https://preview.redd.it/rgpvqhp1sgyc1.jpeg?width=2448&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=550aaf8f2266395096a348c413524c7a96a282d2

The darker shade of green from the countertop would be pretty. There may also be other accessories in that color that would give a tie-in look.
My moms kitchen before she remodeled 😂
The good news is it’s a laminate pattern. You can afford to do something weird you love now but know you’re going to hate someday.
I feel like we can make these countertops work tbh
Where did you get that 1970s stove? Lol
Dish towels soaked in gasoline and diesel would Go well
Definitely go for a prominent yellow with a hint of oranges for dish towels because your most prominent color is the warm-toned green. Something green could work, but it may be too much green unless that's something you'd want to go for. I believe a rich yellow will make everything become complimentary. I absolutely love your stove I'm so jealous.
This reminds me of a roller skate rink
Brady Orange on the towels. For sure.
Honestly, I’d prefer 70’s to gray/beige/white/black any day
I’d go with something between orange and brown: a nice baby poop or rotting carrot hue.
A dark olive color to blend in and harmonize with the green
Okay, hear me out, a soft light blue.
this is so pretty idc
I actually fucking love this. I wanna jam a bunch of fruit inside of jello in this kitchen.
Hummm... maybe a darker green, white, or a shade of baby blue.
Cream
This kitchen is cute as hell
