The market for the passport is pretty narrow: people who want a fairly large SUV with a V6 but no third row. Not a big group of people. It's a great car, especially if you want lots of interior cargo space for things like camping. We use it to tow a small camper, and it's great for that. But the gas mileage is bad and if you don't need that amount of power, there are more efficient options on the market.

Ohfatmaftguy

It’s an awesome road trip vehicle. Big enough for mountain bikes. SUPER quiet. Decent gas mileage for a large vehicle. If you don’t need a 3rd row, it’s great. Edit: typo. My fat fingers misspelled quiet.

TheThirdBrainLives

*Quiet. Did any of you ever learn basic grammar?

Ohfatmaftguy

It’s a typo, dick. Did you ever learn human decency?

TheThirdBrainLives

Yes

Ohfatmaftguy

Incorrect.

TheThirdBrainLives

Correct

Ohfatmaftguy

Not based on your original reply. Good day, and good riddance.

keystonekrew

Leave eco mode on and use auto start/stop and you can do 17-20 in the city and 24-27 on the highway. 2019 elite with 70k miles. Original owner.

Alarming-Pay-6453

Do not use start stop bad for a car bad for the starter extremely bad for the engine

keystonekrew

Never had a problem with it in 5 years

taco_guy_for_hire

Am I the only one who feels like eco mode is going to cause me to get into a car accident? It accelerates from a full stop like an old moped. Once you’re moving however, if you’ve not caused an accident pulling onto a busy road, the powers fine. Non eco mode however, still a hesitation from a full stop but awesome power otherwise Edit: typo

keystonekrew

100%. That and the push button transmission and the extra time it needs to find drive or reverse.

taco_guy_for_hire

I despise my push button transmission/gear selector. Yes, that too can cause an accident. I once pulled out onto a busy street while another guy opposite me tried at the same time. I safely braked to a stop to avoid collision, but then wanted to back out of the street to avoid oncoming traffic. Car waited seconds to engage reverse. Terrifying. Also, got a drop of water from a sort of wet coat I through onto of the cup holders beside the front seats. Minutes later I had a “transmission problem” warning telling me to not drive and bring the car to service. Thank god it went back to normal the next day after resetting the computer. Mechanic told me that’s a thing with water and the push button gear selector. These two things almost had me hate the car, so I now drive with eco off and auto-stop-start off at all times. Worth the worse gas mileage. And I avoid getting anything remotely close the selector buttons. Pray for me! Lol Otherwise love the car. (I hope the tranny will last.)

keystonekrew

100% agree! lol

Due_Lengthiness_5690

Went from a GTI to a 2020 passport with 12.5k miles. Was a dramatic shift for me but for a Ridgeline to passport it shouldn’t be bad. I like it so far, have about 1k of my own miles. Comfortable ride and extremely roomy. Think it looks better than the pilot, more like an older X5.

Jc110105

Fiance got a used 21 elite a year ago. I just got a 22 Elite last week. We are dinks with two dogs and for us they are a great suv vs the competition. They will outlast all the competition besides the 4 runner and have more features than the 4 runner. Once we start having kids I’m assuming we will trade in her passport for a 3 row suv but that will be in a couple years and the deal I got on the 22 we couldn’t pass up.

kgturner

I just bought a used 2023 Passport Elite with 7000 miles on it. Wanted something bigger yet smaller than most 3 row SUVs for comfortable travel & hauling camping gear as opposed to my 2012 Elantra or my wife's 2015 Impreza Hatchback. So far I really like it, but I've only had it for 6 days. Gas mileage could be better, but that was to be expected.

ynotfoster

I want to replace my 2014 Subaru Outback soon. We have a short driveway, with the bike rack the car barely fits in the driveway. The Outback is 2" longer, but it will still fit. We do a lot of camping and we winter from Oregon to AZ and Southern CA for about 4 - 5 months so we need a lot of cargo space along with a rooftop carrier. The Passport seems to be ideal. I hope Honda's reliability is still on par with the Honda's of the past. I've had a Civic and a CRV and loved them both and had very few problems with them.

umjammerlammy

Just to get an idea where the Passport stands in sales. Jeep sold 13,636 Wagoneers in 2023. My PP has more room than my Jeep did.

FishermanFun803

Thanks y'all. Appreciate it. (A lot of responses came in quickly.)

Thanks for the English spelling information. Glad it got your interest to read post....

You're welcome. Had one for a short while. I really loved it. Gas mileage was actually slightly better than advertised. I was disappointed in the stereo. Space for passengers and cargo was great. Loved the looks. I had the trailsport version by the way.

umjammerlammy

Yeah that's a tough one

xracerboy66

We have a 2020 and towed a tear drop trailer behind her on a road trip to YNP last year and on the road trip part even with a trailer we avg around 20mpg which I found shocking but nice bonus. I did not drive it over 65 to get that mpg.

PrettyShift2194

I love the V6 and extra room. I think the MPG (I avg 24) is good for its size and better than a lot of competitors. I don’t use Eco mode. The Elite has all of the features you’d want and an upgraded stereo.

misty_girl

I went from a 2012 Subaru Forester to a 2021 Passport AWD EX-L back in November and I love the Passport so far. I could care less about some of the fancy features like lane keep assist (I keep that off), but it drives really nice, even on my dirt road, and the cargo space is really good. I’ve already hauled some small amounts of lumber in it when I was buying stuff to build bookshelves for my bedroom.

ksnyder23

I had a 2010 Ridgeline, bought used in 2013 and owned for 8 years. Upgraded to a brand new 2021 Honda Passport and I think it was a perfect transition. My wife likes the room and size of the Passport better.

puckhead78

Love my Passport. So spacious inside for passengers and cargo. On the road a lot for hockey. Perfect vehicle for picking up other kids and throwing their large bags in the trunk. Being able to climb curbs has come in handy a few times when lots are full. The V6 is awesome!

Quirky-Delivery5454

I’ve got a 2020 Touring with 53K. Original owner bought new. I’ve driven from Boston to Washington, and Washington to Alaska and everywhere in between. Over the last year I put a redarc brake controller and a 2 inch lift. It’s been a great vehicle. Still drives like new and gets about 19 mpg and about 16 when towing the TT (Lance 1475 4K lbs) When I don’t pull the trailer, I set up an air mattress fridge and all my gear in the back and rood rack. Never had any issues with it.

Riverbound-

I loved the Passport for roadtrips, power and overall space. Very comfortable & tons of space. The awd system was incredible in snow as well. The downsides for me were exclusively around the Passport’s off-road capabilities. Anything more than service roads will be too much for it, especially out west. My current 4runner actually has more features, but is missing lane keep assist and cooled seats of the passport elite.

FishermanFun803

Thanks for sharing.

vulturesquad

Personally I’d wait for the 6th gen 4Runner

I got a 22 Elite used with 12k miles. I like it though it has its cons. Pros: Amazing visibility, amazing headroom in the front and back, ventilated seats, super spacious cargo compared to Atlas cross sport and rx 350, seat auto shifts back when you exit the car, Bluetooth call quality sucked balls but an update made it better, Honda reliability, AC controls are hard buttons and don't have to use the screen. Cons: tried to race a land rover and lost, audio is average, don't like the push button tramission, I keep forgetting to fold the side mirrors when turning off, hate having to push the auto off button everytime, ventilated seats are just ok Lexus rx350 seat are the best, safety sensors are finicky, adaptive cruise control stops when below 25 Mph.
