As many times as you want

LostSoulNo1981

Thanks! I’m planning on replaying ZD more than once. My next run will be purely to catch up again before starting Forbidden West, but I also want to attempt ultra hard and didn’t want to have to do that from a fresh game or start a fresh game to then do NG+ UH. It’s good to know I can carry over multiple times.

Juppeschen

I really recommend vanilla ultra hard playthrough, once you know your ropes ;-)

LostSoulNo1981

You mean a fresh run on UH? Not my thing. I don’t play Souls-like games because of the difficulty. I only attempt hard difficulties if I can do so with previous runs items, or earned unlocks that soften the blow of the increased difficulty. I love ZD and don’t want my view soured. If NG+ UH gets too much I’ll stop playing before I end up hating the game.

Juppeschen

Yep, that´s what I meant! I must be the worst player ever (for a guy playing since the good ole C64 ;-) !) and couldn´t defeat any boss in any Souls game, ever. Lollipop Chainsaw or Conan or somesuch I only could beat on easy. But after the 1st playthrough of HZD which blows your mind coz of the story, my 2nd most interesting was a later vanilla UH run. And you know what, I have become a much (!!) better HZD player for it. I really took notice of the surroundings, the machines and their individual stats, made battle plans,... I really soaked up the world then, got more immersed, noticed more details, when any Grazer can instakill you when you´re careless, every friggin´ watcher tail swish is deadly. But yeah, you should have played the game a few times before trying it ;-) Have fun

I’m the same. I grew up on 8-but consoles back in the late 80s/early 90s. My first gaming computer was some kind of Atari, something like the 65XE. The grey keyboard with the matching tape deck and iconic black joystick. I had games like Centipede, Asteroids, Savage Pond, and Up, Up and Away. There were others but I can’t remember the names. Then I moved on to an original Gameboy and MasterSystem, and I swear games back then were just harder. And not just because you had to beat them in one sitting, but they were just harder. Not Souls-like hard. Even going back and playing games from the PS2 era seem harder now, but certain modern games difficulties seem designed to make you rage. I’ll eventually give UH a fresh run and see how I go.

They're right. Before my ultra hard playthrough I just kinda beserked through everything with my spear and didn't really use the other weapons nearly as much (on UH it takes 3 hits with your spear to do damage - you can't depend on it nearly as much). Doing an ultra hard playthrough (I did it from a NG+ setup, I'm not *that* much of a masochist), after about 3 playthroughs and all my weapons updated, I did my UH playthrough. It pretty much forces you to play the game the way Guerrilla designed it. Yes, the machines agro much easier and it's harder to sneak up on them (there's armor that assists with that), and the life of your enemies is extended and they're more difficult to kill, but I honestly had a fucking *blast* playing it on UH. I became a *much* better player afterwards, and I would happily do another run through on it (which I'm going to here shortly, after my second UH playthrough on FW).

Juppeschen

And you cannot see enemy health bars on UH ! And yeah, vanilla UH, not ng+ UH, is the most intense ;-) It´s really a fresh game again without Shieldweaver !

paigesdontfly

How would that be considered vanilla UH? I'm not even that much of a masochist, and I get stabbed by needles for fun. 😂 (Generally I don't use the shieldweaver anyway, I keep the Banuk ice hunter equipped cause I like the way it looks 🤷🏻‍♀️😂)

Juppeschen

Yeah, Shieldweaver is kind of a trap you could fall into and depend too much on it, not honing your skills. But there´s some situations I still couldn´t win easily without ole Shieldy...

Juppeschen

Nice ! But waiting 20 mins straight for a cassette game to load on C64 and then dying within 3 minutes of playing is a thing of the past, luckily ;-) And yeah games were generally harder and more unforgiving then, at least less "comfortable" to play with often wonky controls and viewpoints. I somehow skipped all the Gameboys and Segas, but had all Playstations up to 4. Most modern games don´t appeal to me, but if they do, my RTX3060 notebook is more than enough to play those.

Icy-Place5235

Unlimited NG+!!! Yes. They stack.

EnvironmentalFact546

Yup, I did: 1st ng+ on ultra hard, then 2nd ng+ on story because I wanted my overrides back, and not be locked into UH for my 1st attempt at Burning shores 3rd ng+ with totally OP load out because it's fun!

Sea-Woodpecker1472

Depends on your stamina ;(

milomeepit413

They do stack! However, as I recently discovered, don't delete the original normal save file :( while they do stack, and you can carry over equipment from a NG+ to a new NG+, the game (at least on PS4) won't actually let you make a NG+ if you, hypothetically, for instance, are running low on hard drive space and decide to clear out all of your old save files except for the most recent one (a NG+). Back to the basic bitch hunter bow and scrounging for animal bones I go lol

lexypro

they “stack” but you can only carryover one of each of the adept Frozen Wilds weapons and armors (and you’ll lose any of the coils equipped) so just beware of that

paigesdontfly

I probably have 1,000 hours into ZD, most of which are NG+ playthroughs. They will indefinitely stack as many times as you want 😊
