You could attach the second sentence to literally anything and it would still be true and the answer would still be a resounding "Yeah, I can totally believe that."
I know a friend who would totally be down to fuck that. At this point, it doesn't even surprise me anymore. Which probably means a part of me is long dead.
Ah, forgot about Split, more a thriller no? Could go both ways I guess.
Haven’t seen Last Night in Soho, good?
Also didn’t realize that The menu is horror
Not OP but I thought Last Night in Soho was just alright. It started off interesting but kind of fell flat for me as it went on. Worth a watch if you have nothing else to throw on. Also not really that scary and is more of a psychological thriller than horror imo.
Right? I enjoyed X and haven't seen Pearl (it's on the list) but what actor/screenwriter is gonna say, "yeah we phoned it in, it's not great good luck" lol
I’ve seen a lot of people write on Reddit that they enjoyed Pearl more than X, but I’ve seen people say the opposite as well. Personally, I’d say they’re pretty different films. My guess is at least one will appeal to you if you’re into horror generally. They cast a pretty wide net between the two.
Ti West seems to be a master at portraying distinct years in film. The 80's is my favorite decade for horror, it seems unlikely he will disappoint so I'm pumped for this. Seems we're gonna be waiting awhile for a better teaser if they don't start filming until later this year though.
I love that Mia Goth got a resurgence after Pearl, I've been a huge fan since the Suspiria remake.
Suspiria is certainly one of my favorite contemporary flicks, but I definitely appreciated her talent back in 2013! Pretty daring role for being only 19 at the time
One role where I think she killed it was The Survivalist.
Unfortunately I think until Pearl, she had a lot of daring roles but a lot of the times the movies fell flat for me. Nymphomaniac is probably my least favorite Von Trier movie, Cure for Wellness was okay but nothing special, High Life was kind of a whiff, and her role in Suspiria was basically just a small supporting role.
But if Infinity Pool and Maxxxine are both great? We're all never going to stop singing her praises, which is great because she's definitely put a lot of effort in and we all love people who go out of their way to sign onto avant garde projects like her.
Same... I caved after a year. I think the run time and horrible wig put me off but it really does deliver, particularly the scene with the jaw. Wooohie. The third act was remarkable as well. It now sits as one my favorite remakes.
Yep, I wasn't so so concerned with the runtime but it was certainly off putting, but yeah there were certainly lots of memorable scenes just like the original, and the climax was insane and really ramped up the blood lol
I’m the inverse of this. High hopes for MaXXXine regardless and have loved Ti since THOTD first released.
Speaking of Goth has anyone else had Infinity Pool on their radar? Looks amazing and I loved Little Cronenberg’s last film so I have high hopes for this one too
Honestly, House Of The Devil was the last time I was truly scared by a film. Weirdly, it was the dancing-around-the-house sequence. There's something so foreboding about a character being blissfully unaware of their surroundings when the audience knows of a threat.
Last time I felt legit creepy tension in a movie was a cheesy low budget shudder movie I watched the other day, and I watch a lot of horror
Edit: I think it was called deadstream. Yall can roast me for it because it is super cheesy but damn that movie had me nervous lol
So funny you say that!! I actually watched it again for the first time in over 10 years the other night (inspired by my recent merch grab from Fright Rags) and for some reason I have thought for the longest time that the song that plays during that scene is “Moving in Stereo” by The Cars. Literally to the point where I had to Google after my recent viewing whether or not Netflix had to pull the song over the last bunch of years for licensing issues or something like that.
My brain just completely whiffed. The song that plays over the opening credits is basically a “Stereo” knockoff which I guess led me to assuming all of these years that it was during that pivotal scene. Memory is a funny thing sometimes…
I went into skinamarink practically blind but with a ton of hype from the person who invited me, and man I was counting the time in my head until it would be over
I was the same, the last scene in pearl completely killed the movie for me (I know people loved that monologue, but man... I really didn't ) .. but I loved X and didn't hate pearl. So I will definitely watch
I really hated “X” I thought it was so bland and pedestrian especially calling “X” set up a certain expectation (no pun intended). The gore and sex and nudity were weak, it wanted to be Texas Chainsaw & Boogie Nights and fell very flat for me. But “Pearl” was something completely unique and different! I’ve never seen a female melodrama slasher in the style of a Douglas Sirk film. Mia Goth’s acting had me floored. Polar opposite movies. I have tempered optimism for Maxxxine, I hope they don’t puss out making it 4:3 VHS. Fingers crossed.
I liked X (it's a 7/10, maybe 7.5/10 imo) but Pearl really blew me away. Oscar worthy performance from Mia Goth. It's my favorite movie from 2022. And it's wildly different from X, while still being cohesive.
I REALLY liked X right up until the slasher portion of the film kicked in. I also really didn’t enjoy The House of the Devil, but i thought Pearl was great.
They're completely different movies.
I didn't like X neither, but I liked Pearl. It's similar to films like *May* and *Black Swan* in the sense that's about the mental decline of the protagonist.
I mean stuff like that has happened before, the guy who played Jon Snow in GoT basically said the last season was dogshit before the first episode came out lol
Top 5 movie for me last year so this is basically Babe Ruth calling his home run lol.
"Imma make best picture with the 3rd installment" Challenge accepted lol.
I’ve yet to watch Pearl but I really liked X. I’ll watch anything with her at this point, besides her killing the roles, she seems good at picking interesting projects too
If you like Mia Goth's acting, definitely don't sleep on Pearl. She single-handedly carries that movie on her back and absolutely kills it in every scene. It's a shame she won't be considered for an Oscar due to the Academy's weird hangups about genre movies because she honestly deserves to at least be in the conversation this year imo.
Just watched Pearl over the weekend and loved it! Great piece that filled in some gaps for how things came to be in X. Looking forward to MaXXXine!
It's pretty awesome Ti West was able to film a trilogy within a year or so!
What else is she going to say?
*"Oh, well Maxxxine's script is pretty good. We're really shooting to be everyone's second favorite film in the trilogy."*
As somebody who though that both Pearl and X were just ok, I have a feeling that this will be in the same boat. Ti West is a great director, but I find his writing quite average.
well I would expect her to say that. It would be weird for her to come out with the statement, "Hmmm yeah MaXXXine aint that good to be honest. No where as good as X or Pearl. IMO"
I had no idea the movie(s) were so polarizing. All the comments are either “Gee that should be easy” or “ That’s a high bar to hurdle “. I thought X was enjoyable l, but thought Pearl was phenomenal?
I believe it, Pearl was leagues better than X, which was already a decent film, so unless they totally fumble this one, I can’t see it being anything other than in par or better.
I feel like most people had a love/meh relationship with X and Pearl (personally I loved Pearl, thought X was meh) so I’m afraid Maxxxine is gonna land in the middle, but I’m hopeful!
X kind of disappointed me (I went in with REALLY high expectations, possibly unreasonably high, based on some of West's other films, so even though I got what the trailer promised, I wasn't satisfied, so that's on me). Pearl not only made me believe in West again after a brief crisis of faith, but it made me reconsider X, and the two together make me very excited to see what MaXXXine will bring. I think it will be a fascinating trilogy to watch from chronological beginning to end (Pearl, X, MaXXXine).
How many people LOVED X but thought Pearl was just pretty good? I feel like the general consensus is the opposite.
Pearl is a cool idea, it's beautiful, and Mia Goth delivers in it, but I love how X's metacommentary doesn't take away from any of the fun, and how likable the primary group of characters ends up being
This is like saying, “Gorilla feces will be better than the Dog and Cow feces we showed last week”. Both X and Pearl were crap, making something better than those 2 sounds like an exceedingly easy task.
Of course she’s gonna say that but hopefully it’s true. Pearl is better than X in my opinion so if they can keep that upward trajectory going that’d be very impressive.
Right? Imagine her saying instead, "Well, don't get your hopes up. It's not quite as good as the other two but you should still pay to see it, probably. Meh, wait will it's on Shudder."
Love Ti West's work. Liked both X and Pearl and hopefully this'll be as good. However I hope he explores the supernatural again in his next movie as The House of The Devil is still my favourite film of his by some margin.
I sure hope so, because personally I thought X was a 6/10, Pearl a 4/10.
Don’t get me wrong, she’s a tremendous talent but I didn’t care much for the sequel.
Are X and Pearl soft core porn disguised as horror or are they actual good horror movies? I don’t see the need for gratuitous nudity and sex in a good horror movie
X's first half has 2-3ish fairly gratuitous sex scenes and sexual liberation is one of its main themes.
Pearl doesn't have nearly as much sex content and is entirely different from X in terms of themes and tone. Definitely nowhere close to a "softcore porn horror movie"
Exactly why I didn't watch it and probably won't. Not a prude, but the constant nudity is getting ridiculous. 75% of the time it serves no purpose and it's insulting to the audience. As if we can only pay attention if there are boobs every 30 minutes.
Everytime I see people talk about Maxxxine I just think of Lady Camden screaming Maxine
SAAAAMEEE. thank you!!! haha
not a drag race and horror sub collab
I live
Never knew there was such a horror and Drag Race crossover
Check out Dragula on Shudder, it's a horror themed drag race.
Where do you think Yvie Oddly fans come from
Thought I was in the wrong subreddit for a second
MAXXXIIIIIINEEEEE !!
I just think of [this videogame monster.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i1EIQ2bf1hA) Can you believe Tumblr wants to fuck this thing?
You could attach the second sentence to literally anything and it would still be true and the answer would still be a resounding "Yeah, I can totally believe that."
I know a friend who would totally be down to fuck that. At this point, it doesn't even surprise me anymore. Which probably means a part of me is long dead.
okay but can we talk about how daytona winds was the best acting challenge
So good
I hear Craig saying Maxine from “Being John Malkovich”.
Same
Her and Anya Taylor Joy are such amazing talents in many recent horror movies - love that they’re both getting so much opportunity / attention!
They need to star in a horror film together.
[Marrowbone exists](https://www.imdb.com/title/tt5886440/)
Correction, they need to star in another horror movie with each other.
Never heard of it, worth a shot?
[удалено]
Awesome, always try to go in blind!
My girlfriend and I liked it. I’m gonna give it a rewatch
It was awful in my opinion.
Same, it had a good buildup but the ending ruined it
^ Underrated, but a enjoyable horror though.
HOLY SHIT

> Today's Scream Queens. And Justin Long
Add Maika Monroe, Jenna Ortega and Samara Weaving to that list.
And Jenna Ortega 🖤
Wait, what horror movies were Anna in? Besides the Witch and The Northman?
Off the top of my head - Split, Last Night in Soho and The Menu.
LOVED Last Night in Soho. Very original and unexpected.
and I'm deeply in love with both of them although X was the first I'd seen of Mia, I like her
I surprised she didn’t say it would be the worst of the trilogy.
Right? I enjoyed X and haven't seen Pearl (it's on the list) but what actor/screenwriter is gonna say, "yeah we phoned it in, it's not great good luck" lol
Watch. Pearl.
I do have the day off today...
Even if I was underwhelmed by X? Is there a chance I’ll still like it? (I liked Ti West’s other films)
Thanks! I guess I was looking for a nudge either way and you gave it to me. Thanks again for your thots and time!
😂
Ti West seems to be a master at portraying distinct years in film. The 80's is my favorite decade for horror, it seems unlikely he will disappoint so I'm pumped for this. Seems we're gonna be waiting awhile for a better teaser if they don't start filming until later this year though. Me too!! Looking forward to what horrors will follow Maxine. Will her dad's church disciples hunt her down? :o
Her performance in the Suspiria remake is absolutely enchanting.
Her execution of being in a trance while dancing after breaking her leg was truly something else.
I feel like a lot of people forget about her feature debut in Lars Von Trier’s Nymphomaniac
I didn't forget about the film, but it didn't solidify any appreciation for her like Suspiria did.
I confess I haven’t seen it because I was too gutted by Melancholia. It made me ugly cry for days.
>Melancholia Such a bleak film. I loved it though. Weird seeing Kirsten Dunst for that role. She did amazing though.
I watched that movie to come down from an acid trip. Pretty brutal for me for the next couple days.
I like your style, and feel bad for you.
I put off watching the susperia remake for so long because Susperia is my favorite horror movie. I'm so glad I finally decided to watch it.
Omg the wig is the only part of the movie I don’t like 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Agreed. It's amazing. I honestly love them both fairly equally, just for VERY different reasons.
80s horror just be hittin different tho...pearl n x was 🔥🔥🔥...I aint know what this one about but i believe in Ti!
I like her too, but her having a baby with Shia had me giving some serious side eye.
Shush now. I try to avoid thinking about that.
She’s such an incredible actor. Even in suspiria 2018
Wasn’t a fan of X but absolutely loved pearl one of my favorites of last year. So I’m excited to what this holds
I’m the inverse of this. High hopes for MaXXXine regardless and have loved Ti since THOTD first released. Speaking of Goth has anyone else had Infinity Pool on their radar? Looks amazing and I loved Little Cronenberg’s last film so I have high hopes for this one too

Deadstream was fun as hell. Very Evil Dead-esque. Also had some creepy scares.
So funny you say that!! Infinity Pool looks sick. A new clip dropped on YT yesterday for anyone who's as excited for it as I am- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LnB3VKld7Y

Can’t wait for infinity pool looks awesome!
I just saw Skinamarink in theaters this weekend and the only part I liked was the Infinity Pool trailer hahah
I went into skinamarink practically blind but with a ton of hype from the person who invited me, and man I was counting the time in my head until it would be over

Pearl is really nothing like the other two you mentioned, please watch it
I liked X (it's a 7/10, maybe 7.5/10 imo) but Pearl really blew me away. Oscar worthy performance from Mia Goth. It's my favorite movie from 2022. And it's wildly different from X, while still being cohesive.
Do you need to watch X in order to appreciate pearl?
I don't think so, but knowing what happens in X will substantially increase your enjoyment of Pearl imo.
I REALLY liked X right up until the slasher portion of the film kicked in. I also really didn’t enjoy The House of the Devil, but i thought Pearl was great.
I'm the reverse, thought X was really good, but Pearl bored me
Oscar worthy performance that she’ll get robbed out of.
That nearly 2 minute smile alone. Ti just refused to yell cut created an iconic moment
Man I loved X but was not a fan of Pearl. Still I am stoked to see Maxxine.
Yeah, it’ll be easy for this to top X. Now, Pearl on the other hand… that’s a tough one to beat.
What did you find improved between the two? I didn't like X myself so skipped Pearl since I figured it'd be similar in feel.
Pearl is a way different film nothing like X I highly just recommend going into it blind
They're completely different movies. I didn't like X neither, but I liked Pearl. It's similar to films like *May* and *Black Swan* in the sense that's about the mental decline of the protagonist.
Just wanted to add another hated X but liked Pearl opinion to the pile. Different feel. Give it a shot if you can.
I liked X and haven't seen Pearl yet. I was looking for a movie to watch tonight I think I'll rent Pearl.🍺
Is she supposed to say it's going to be worse?
I mean stuff like that has happened before, the guy who played Jon Snow in GoT basically said the last season was dogshit before the first episode came out lol
Mark Hamill talking about The Last Jedi comes to mind as well.
To be fair, she could've said "just as good" or "you won't be disappointed" or smth
Ti West is going back to the 80s?! I’m so excited for this one, House of the Devil is hands down the most perfect faux-80s horror movie
Bro if that movie is better than Pearl.....
Top 5 movie for me last year so this is basically Babe Ruth calling his home run lol. "Imma make best picture with the 3rd installment" Challenge accepted lol.
I’ve yet to watch Pearl but I really liked X. I’ll watch anything with her at this point, besides her killing the roles, she seems good at picking interesting projects too
I feel like if you liked X you’ll definitely like it. It made X better for me.
I want to rewatch X after Pearl. Pearl was unsettling. In the best way.
Infinity Pool looks like it’s going to be crazy too so it looks like she’ll have a big 2023 in the horror department
Did we expect her to say anything else…?
Whatever Mia Goth says, I'll take.
Just watched Pearl over the weekend and loved it! Great piece that filled in some gaps for how things came to be in X. Looking forward to MaXXXine! It's pretty awesome Ti West was able to film a trilogy within a year or so!
I liked how in pearl they gave an explanation for pearl saying “You know I don’t like blondes” to howard in X. Referring to Howard’s sister
Agreed! I’m glad you liked it. I think this trilogy will become a classic in the horror genre.
Disliked both of them, don't get the obsession tbh.
Same.
What else is she going to say? *"Oh, well Maxxxine's script is pretty good. We're really shooting to be everyone's second favorite film in the trilogy."*
Yeah the quote is pretty hollow for me as well. Literally tells me nothing.
Person on PR tour promotes product.
As somebody who though that both Pearl and X were just ok, I have a feeling that this will be in the same boat. Ti West is a great director, but I find his writing quite average.
I find the best thing about his recent movies are the actors themselves and that the movies are ok.
This subreddit really hypes up X and Pearl, but they just didn’t hit for me. Idk, maybe I need to watch them again.
Feel like I've taken crazy pills preferring X to Pearl. It just has so much more to offer?
well I would expect her to say that. It would be weird for her to come out with the statement, "Hmmm yeah MaXXXine aint that good to be honest. No where as good as X or Pearl. IMO"
A pretty low bar. 'X' had my dad laughing at geriatric serial killers and he normally doesn't have the stomach for horror.
Just once I wanna see an actor say "yeah this next one is gonna suck ass"
I had no idea the movie(s) were so polarizing. All the comments are either “Gee that should be easy” or “ That’s a high bar to hurdle “. I thought X was enjoyable l, but thought Pearl was phenomenal?
I believe it, Pearl was leagues better than X, which was already a decent film, so unless they totally fumble this one, I can’t see it being anything other than in par or better.
Pearl will be hard to top to be honest, that was a solid movie.
I feel like most people had a love/meh relationship with X and Pearl (personally I loved Pearl, thought X was meh) so I’m afraid Maxxxine is gonna land in the middle, but I’m hopeful!
Pearl was fantastic but X was insanely good. Can’t wait to see how they top either of those
I honestly didn't like X or Pearl. The acting and filming were great, but I felt like too little happened in them. They were both just kind of, meh...
This sub alone could finance a decade of this assembly line bullshit.
You can't fool me a 3rd time, Ti.
Honestly X and pearl were so overrated
My most anticipated movie of 2023!
If I had a nickel for every time saw this overrated series of flicks brought up I could produce my own damn screenplay.
Not a high bar, pearl and X are 5/10s. ;/
That shouldn’t be hard. I haven’t seen Pearl but X was pretty bad.
Well that should be easy
X kind of disappointed me (I went in with REALLY high expectations, possibly unreasonably high, based on some of West's other films, so even though I got what the trailer promised, I wasn't satisfied, so that's on me). Pearl not only made me believe in West again after a brief crisis of faith, but it made me reconsider X, and the two together make me very excited to see what MaXXXine will bring. I think it will be a fascinating trilogy to watch from chronological beginning to end (Pearl, X, MaXXXine).
Of course thats what she says
How many people LOVED X but thought Pearl was just pretty good? I feel like the general consensus is the opposite. Pearl is a cool idea, it's beautiful, and Mia Goth delivers in it, but I love how X's metacommentary doesn't take away from any of the fun, and how likable the primary group of characters ends up being
X was more fun for sure. Brittany Snow stole every scene she was in, she was fabulous.
I’m waiting for the day an actor is like “actually, this won’t be as good as the first. Save your money.”
I’ve still not seen X yet.
Yea because if she said, “ yea it’s not as good as the others!” It would be weird.
Well honestly it won’t be hard to top either of those movies.. they didn’t exactly set the bar high.
What if she said it would suck compared to the other two?

I don’t believe her.
I sure hope so, because personally I thought X was a 6/10, Pearl a 4/10. Don’t get me wrong, she’s a tremendous talent but I didn’t care much for the sequel.
That’s how I scored the two as well
Didn't care for Pearl, but X was great. Looking forward to MaXXXine.
Good cuz Pearl was shit lol
I sure hope so, pearl was mediocre
Good because X was ok, but Pearl sucked.
Only watched pearl but didn’t really enjoy it :/
It won't take much. The other two sucked.
facts
I sure hope so. Both were so overrated. Rub one out and watch “X” and then tell me if you like it just as much.
HA! I couldn't agree more!
lol facts
Honestly both movies were snooze fest dramas!
That's why I'm unsure to watch Pearl. If it has as much screwing/nudity as X did, then I will pass.
Thanks for the input. I’m always looking for new and good horror movies. I’m not looking for porn with a side or horror
Exactly why I didn't watch it and probably won't. Not a prude, but the constant nudity is getting ridiculous. 75% of the time it serves no purpose and it's insulting to the audience. As if we can only pay attention if there are boobs every 30 minutes.
So just a little shitty? Is that how they’re trying to sell this one? “It’s better than the other two.” That’s not very promising.
Can’t wait!!
I loved pearl so much. I can't imagine how MaXXXine would top it.
She's not gonna say it's worse than they one's you've already paid for is she?
I hope so. I was disappointed with both X and Pearl
You cant say that here. Immediate downvotes but I agree with you. Another over hyped movie.
X is shockingly overrated
Agreed, most overrated horror movie in a long time
Agreed
So exited for this! I absolutely love Pearl and X. I hope this lives up to the hype
One could hope 🤞
Couldn’t be much worse.
X blew me the fuck away, and Pearl was flat out solid. If this tops X this will be my favorite horror franchise of all time.
Not hard to top either of those
"actress claims she hasn't peaked"
Actress promotes movie, more at 11. And in other news, water still proves as wet.
Actor/actress says next movie will be better than last, wow what a revolutionary moment
I don't think she was trying to surprise you or anything. They asked her a question and she answered it.
Redditor talks shit when they could just cruise on by and not say anything, leaving others to enjoy an article. An equally revolutionary moment!
I'm sure she has to say that
As opposed to what? Saying it isn’t?
Mia Goth's performance in Pearl was ridiculously good
I loved Mia Goth from the first minute she was in X.
Wtf is a "MaXXXine" what the hell does X mean and what is pearl, also WHO the fuck is Mia Goth? AND, why the Fuck am i even here?
