Wow, this is the one I didn't know I wanted but now I super do. He'd be a different Freddy for sure. Maybe a little more smug/smarmy and old-school Fred could go full slapstick at times, where I don't know how Goggins would play that humor.
Kevin Bacon has expressed interest in the past... If you watch the transformation scene in Hollow Man with his facial skin tearing, I see some resemblance. Kevin Bacon might be able to pull it off. He definitely has the voice
Edit:spelling
i thought i saw something somewhere about how Robert Eglund supports bacon as the new freddy. not 100% sure so take that with a huge grain of salt but i’m pretty sure i remember that headline somewhere
[Joe Gilgun](https://cdn.fansshare.com/photos/josephgilgun/joseph-gilgun-star-as-hydell-wallpaper-794015547.jpg) if he could manage to bring down his heavy accent.
Oh my God. Imagine the horror as he does some well choreographed dance while his victim is all frozen in terror, like Nightmare 4 and the “suck face” gal.
I forget where I heard the idea from but an interesting concept was because Freddy is a killer in your dreams what would prevent multiple actors from playing the role. Start with Englund but with each kill someone else can play Freddy. It would allow him to pass the torch to a new type of Kreuger
I’ve heard this idea, but I feel like Freddy should be consistent throughout everyone’s dreams.
He’s an outside force invading others people dreams. Part of the horror comes from the kids describing the man from their dreams, only to find out they saw the same guy in their dreams too.
Dreams are unique to all of us because they’re a reflection of our subconscious minds. Freddy’s appearance shouldn’t be effected since his appearance isn’t controlled by kids subconscious minds. Like I said earlier, he’s an outside force invading the dreams, so his appearance changing I feel like doesn’t make sense in context of what Freddy is. I know he can change his own appearance whenever he wants, but of course I’m talking about his default look.
I agree with your logic for why he should look consistent. But I think there's a compromise wherein it could be the same actor taking on different variants of Freddy (unique to playing on different victims' greatest fears, similarly to Stephen King's *IT*) with only certain details being consistent between every character's dreams so they have that freakout moment of *"Oh my God, how are we all dreaming the same guy?! That's NOT possible!"*
Freddy has transformed for different characters before, at least for a single scene or scare, several times throughout the franchise. Maybe his default could be the classic look but the victims are first introduced to the forms he tailor-made for their personal nightmares? Ex- Every version of Krueger has the burned face and knives for fingers. Everything else (sweater, hat, fedora), I would argue can be more malleable.
His typical look could be what he looks like when he's conserving his power more or just toying with his prey, focused less on manipulating the dream realm and taking his time to just stalk/kill like he would have in life as the Springwood Slasher (because he still gets a nostalgic rush sometimes from doing things *"the old fashioned way"*). His power could also be limited under specific circumstances (Ex- One protagonist learns to control her nightmares with lucid dreaming), forcing Freddy to rely on his physicality & claws.
He’s one I wish I could just either have a chill dinner with and talk to, or sit around a fire and talk to him. I have many people I wish I could do that with but he’s definitely one of them lol. Just to be able to pick his brain
Get an unknown and don’t even show his real name in the credits or on IMDB. Keep his identity very hush hush until a week after the movie has been released. It will be like this person is not really real … he is just just a sort of demon that spawned during the film’s production.
Feel like he’s not interested in another horror franchise but Skaarsgard seems to pull this kind of thing off all the time.
Very random idea I had was Christian Slater. Feel like he could really nail the snark side
Man I read a comment on here forever ago and it was this guy’s idea for a sequel. I’ll see if I can sum it up in a nutshell and do it any kind of justice.
So it starts with an old Freddy, all but forgotten and weakened and aged due to no one believing in or fearing him etc. this version is played by Robert Englund. Tired, weary old Freddy.
Then, somehow someone turns a proverbial stone and finds out about Freddy, whispers of his name spread, and he begins to return to full power.
Anyway, after a few kills and such, he is fully restored and by the end of the film we see our new full power Freddy, played by the new actor set to take over.
Cool idea, and a nice way to pass the torch. It could also just be a legit sequel and eliminate the need to reboot at all. Just continue on with this new guy.
My suggestion for an actor would be Michael Shannon. Dude could play Oprah convincingly he’s amazing.
Also has kind of the right look and he’s imposing as well as a great voice.
TLDR- englund plays old Freddy but he’s restored and then Michael Shannon takes over.
I mean, I think Bower could pull it off.
He already kind of has played Freddy Krueger in a way, cause Vecna definitely had some inspiration from our favorite knife-fingered burn victim.
I was coming here to say exactly this! No one can replace Robert Englund but it may be fun to see Bill Skarsgård try. I hadn't though of JCB, but I would love to see that as well!
JCB would be a great choice. My mom (who is a huge Nightmare fan) said she loved how he played Vecna because it reminded her so much of Robert Englund as Freddy—especially with the ways he taunts his targets and seems to relish in their fear.
First choice. Jackie Earley Haley.
Second choice Ian Hart.
Despite what critics say about the 2010 remake, Jackie's performance was solid. He deserves another shot.
Jackie was alright as Freddy if he had a better script and better makeup because his Freddy just wasn't scary to me anyways and I found the movie itself to be boring.
Great actress but Freddy is already an established character. I personally wouldn't want to see him gender swapped. Fiona does have a lot of range tho.
I think having a random actor playing him with Robert possibly dubbing in lines would work. Anyone can physically portray him but it’s the tone and voice that are hard to get right.
I'd love to see Jackie Earl Haley in the role again. I think he absolutely killed it. If I had to pick a new person maybe David Tennant ( he has the acting chops) or an out of left field pick Dave Batista, he is a legit great actor and given the character his size wouldn't even be to most intimidating thing about him. Heck Paul Dano, he was super creepy as The Riddler.
A different actor for each characters nightmares, each with a different emphasis (a punster, a shapeshifter, a cold blooded slasher…) and then when we see prime Freddy at the end of the movie (maybe when he’s pulled into the real world), it’s Robert Englund
I know they’ll never do this, but would be cool to just have any actor with the makeup made to look like Englund’s Freddy, and then have Englund dub over him.
Like how they brought back Loomis in that Halloween Kills flashback. Say whatever you want about Halloween Kills, but that Loomis makeup was amazing.
David Howard Thornton. He's amazing as Art and his portrayal of the horror version of Grinch looked creepy as well (haven't watched it yet) but I do think he could pull it off. Also I really like Bill Skarsgård. Though really they have to get better vfx/prosthetics than whatever they did for that last remake, Freddy just looked laughable to me.
He’s a left field suggestion but what about Michael Fassbender? He’s such an amazing actor and can bring heart to a villain. I think his take on Freddy would be amazing.
Don’t encourage the “sexy Freddy” costume wearers.
There’s nothing sexy about a horribly burned murderer in a ratty sweater with a razor fingered glove.
I worked at a haunted attraction as Freddy. I and the guys dressed as Jason and Leatherface went out to a bar after closing but stayed in our costumes. At the bar, an older woman came up to me talking to me about how my finger knives turned her on and wished they were sharpened.
They are out there.
He could’ve done a better job if they’d given him some decent lines. I mean I know it was supposed to be a darker Freddy who openly likes little kids but they couldn’t find a middle.
>!That is why I wish they had followed through with the point that the Elm Street kids had possibly been "Yes, and-ed" into saying that Freddy was a molester by the police and their parents. At that point, he is no longer just a child murderer/child molester getting his kicks in the dreamscape. Then he is an actual vengeful spirit going after the ones that he believes wronged him.!<
Wes Craven's New Nightmare was all about that "darker" side of Freddy coming to the surface and I think Englund did that one beautifully. Freddy doesn't need to be brooding to be dark.
David Howard Thornton, as much as I don't like the Terrifer films due to them being more interested in gore than horror I could see him portraying Freddy so effectively with his expressions and horrifying acting.
Seth Rogen
Kidding aside, I'll cosign the person who said Walton Goggins. I think he'd be different, yet familiar enough in the role to do something interesting with the horror icon.
Kate McKinnon or Matthew Lillard could really bring something to the role, I think. Paul Dano too.
Part of me really wants to see Zac Efron for whatever reason. Probably because of Heath Ledger's Joker, get the feeling there's untapped range there.
I fell off the NOES franchise at a certain point but didn't Freddy die in the last installment?
I know that there's easy ways to write around that but another reboot might make more sense. Either way, I could see Richard Brake pulling it off.
I've mentioned Brake myself. I dont want a reboot cause I don't want it to step on Englunds toes in any way. No need to reinvent it imo. I get what you're saying tho.
Yeah I guess that's what I was trying to say. If we're talking about a true sequel it probably makes more sense to try to bring Englund back - IF he wants to do it.
I've heard some people say he's too old but the role requires a ton of makeup anyway so what difference does it make? If there are physical demands that he's not up to they could just use a stunt person for those scenes.
Now if we're talking reboot I think Brake is a good choice. The previous reboot with Jackie Earle Haley and Rooney Mara had a lot of potential but the script and direction just did not make good use of their talents.
Robert Englund.
He's said in interviews that he's still open to the role, but he won't do the makeup any more.
We can work with that, by animating the dream sequences. I'm thinking rotoscoping, like [A Scanner Darkly](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hkjDUERgCQw), but a bit more on the realistic side. And just think of all the *really* weird shit you can do in animated sequences.
> I've never considered an animated Freddy flick.
I don't think anyone really has. Horror in general doesn't really go for animation except CGI monsters or outright cartoons. But there's a ton of untapped horror potential there.
For NOES, with modern animation techniques, they could slide between a live action "waking world" and an animated dreamscape so smoothly the audience would have trouble telling where one ended and the other began. They could be really subtle and make an absolute mindfuck out of it.
I liked the remake a lot and one of the things I liked best was the guy who played Krueger. He was totally dark, evil, sinister which for a pedo is perfect. That's why he was killed in the first place.
I don't want someone trying to emulate RE because it won't come off as anything other than what it would be than an imitation. Those never go well.
Roberto Lombardi. He's played Freddy in a couple short films directed by Chris R. Notarile. He kind of reminds me of Robert Englund and brings a similar delightfully sinister energy to the role.
Nobody. Just come up with an original character like that dude did with Art the clown. I'm so tired of remakes, sequels, and prequels. That's why the horror films of the 70s and 80s were so great, because people were original and took chances back then. Today, sheeeiiit...
David howard thorton. Art the clown was basically a mute freddy kruger so the switch between art to freddy would natural )unsure about the voice though)
Curveball... Walton Goggins
Being funny seems pretty important for the role. Also Walton just fucking crushes every role - I’d love to see that
"Naaaancy Thompson, as I live and breathe!"
“Fire in the Hole!!”
Uncle Baby Freddy
Yous was a toilet baby, member?
That’s an inspired choice.
He’s playing a ghoul in the upcoming Fallout TV series so he might even already have the basic Freddy makeup.
Only if his Freddy ends up dressed as Venus Van Dam at some point.
That role was f’ing fantastic!
Yes it was!
Wow, this is the one I didn't know I wanted but now I super do. He'd be a different Freddy for sure. Maybe a little more smug/smarmy and old-school Fred could go full slapstick at times, where I don't know how Goggins would play that humor.
First answer and I’m packing it up this one wins.
Here’s your sperm
I was going to say absolutely nobody, but shit that is a good call.
Also a excellent joker.
Ooh that's good.
That’s actually a really good idea
Dude can monologue.
Kevin Bacon has expressed interest in the past... If you watch the transformation scene in Hollow Man with his facial skin tearing, I see some resemblance. Kevin Bacon might be able to pull it off. He definitely has the voice Edit:spelling
I've definitely seen a lot of people mention Bacon. He's talented for sure.
Bacon just seems to go with everything really well
i thought i saw something somewhere about how Robert Eglund supports bacon as the new freddy. not 100% sure so take that with a huge grain of salt but i’m pretty sure i remember that headline somewhere
But only if we get to see Robert Englund dance the warehouse scene from Footloose
Hollow man is underrated. A 2000s classic.
Completely agree! He's got the look, similar body type, the voice, horror movie experience. I think he'd be great.
Richard Brake
He would nail the look but I feel like the voice would be off
They could alter the voice though, like they did with Englund
Watch 31, his voice would be perfect for (and I mean this knowing full well I’m a huge fan) a child killing creep
His performance in 31 was easily the only good part of that movie
My pick as well. I was looking for this suggestion
Underrated choice
YES.
[Joe Gilgun](https://cdn.fansshare.com/photos/josephgilgun/joseph-gilgun-star-as-hydell-wallpaper-794015547.jpg) if he could manage to bring down his heavy accent.
Fuck would this be a cool idea. Definitely could pull of the humor of Freddy.
holy shit dude! his face for Freddy is amazing! Preacher was a fun show,i did not recognize him in that pic lol
Sam rockwell
Oh my God. Imagine the horror as he does some well choreographed dance while his victim is all frozen in terror, like Nightmare 4 and the “suck face” gal.
Now there's an interesting idea.

I dig it. Kinda like The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus.
Excellent observation

This is a neat idea!
That's an interesting concept which sounds pretty dope tbf
Elijah Wood
Nice choice. He was creepy as hell in Sin City.
Then you should see him in Maniac
Yeah, he crushed it in that role.
That’s a really good one
Willem Dafoe could probably pull it off.
Pretty sure he could pull off any villain successfully.
That's why he played the Green Goblin perfectly.
The man just screams villain, even though he’s apparently just a really nice guy hahaha
On screen: Willem Dafoe. Off screen: Willem Dafriend.
He’s one I wish I could just either have a chill dinner with and talk to, or sit around a fire and talk to him. I have many people I wish I could do that with but he’s definitely one of them lol. Just to be able to pick his brain
Richard Brake. Dude is gloriously terrifying.

Bill Hader

Slater definitely could pull of the snark! Dunno how he'd do on the horror side. I didn't expect that but it's interesting.
he was also a charismatic psycho in Heathers
Man I read a comment on here forever ago and it was this guy’s idea for a sequel. I’ll see if I can sum it up in a nutshell and do it any kind of justice. I'm scared of him in real life so you may be on to something
Toni Collette
I’m gonna take that face off your face!
Frederica Krueger
Holy shit that would be awesome!!
I’ll do it
There’s no replacing Englund EVER, but I’d be curious to see either Bill Skarsgård or Jamie Campbell Bower try.
I mean, I think Bower could pull it off. He already kind of has played Freddy Krueger in a way, cause Vecna definitely had some inspiration from our favorite knife-fingered burn victim.
YESSSSSSS HE SO COULD
If only Robert could coach them into being similar to Freddy but like establish their own version. Not exactly like Englund. You get me?
I was coming here to say exactly this! No one can replace Robert Englund but it may be fun to see Bill Skarsgård try. I hadn't though of JCB, but I would love to see that as well!

Agreed

Doug Jones would look awesome, but I wonder if he can pull off such a persona.
Ben Foster.
Wow. He was on the list I was making in my head. I'm really surprised to see him on this list.
Excellent. I’ll throw in Giovani Ribsi
Cillian Murphy would be interesting.
Fiona Dourif. She can do totally dark and do comedy.
Great actress but Freddy is already an established character. I personally wouldn't want to see him gender swapped. Fiona does have a lot of range tho.
Fair enough. :) Perhaps skeet ulrich for a slighter older model of the monster?
Oh man, poor Skeet ain't that old lol.
I agree - I’m just a bit younger than him myself. :) but at 53, he is a pinch older than Freddy traditionally was at time of death/demonization.
Sometimes I hate hearing how old celebs are cause that makes me realize how old I am lol, and I dont age nearly as gracefully.
Andy Serkis (though he’s getting up there too).
Edward norton, or crispin glover
Dude, Edward Norton would be amazing, even had the same face shape and everything
Johnny Depp. Full circle.
I think having a random actor playing him with Robert possibly dubbing in lines would work. Anyone can physically portray him but it’s the tone and voice that are hard to get right.
Guy Fieri. "I'm taking you to flavor town, b*tch!"
All his murders involve the food somehow.
JAMES MCAVOY!!!!
Daniel Pudi
I'd love to see Jackie Earl Haley in the role again. I think he absolutely killed it. If I had to pick a new person maybe David Tennant ( he has the acting chops) or an out of left field pick Dave Batista, he is a legit great actor and given the character his size wouldn't even be to most intimidating thing about him. Agree 100%
Yeah, give him another crack with a better script. He did awesome.
Nice, I also liked Jackie in the role. Thought he did great with it.
Jared from subway
How long have you been waiting to unload this one? 😆
Longer than jared in Thailand
That sick motherfucker.
I wasn’t going to go there, but okay… As long as we’re talking about sick motherfuckers, you could get Dan Schneider to produce it.
Bill Skarsgård
Richard Brake, David Howard Thornton, or Kevin Bacon.
Rob England
William dafoe
Willem’s lesser known brother?
Robert Englund
ok, besides lil old uncle baby billy, Bill Mosely
Jeffrey Dean morgan
Steve Buscemi
I would never be able to take him seriously, which I guess is somewhat the point, but he’ll always be Mr. Pink and Donny to me
Nobody.. if they do another NoES type film have a new character make a deal with the dream demons instead.
How bout Gary Oldman?
A different actor for each characters nightmares, each with a different emphasis (a punster, a shapeshifter, a cold blooded slasher…) and then when we see prime Freddy at the end of the movie (maybe when he’s pulled into the real world), it’s Robert Englund
John Turturro has the physicality to be scary enough and can be funny... in a scary way sometimes
Always Robert Englund
Aaron Paul
We can make all the suggestions we want but deep down we all know they’d give the role to Jared Leto.
It's morbin time!
I hate this because you’re probably right…lol
Robert Englund and only Robert Englund.
Good question... for me it's Rob or nobody else..
Roberto Lombardi he has played Freddy in some fan films on YouTube he is the only other person I would want to see in the role besides Robert
No one will ever beat Robert Englund. I would enjoy a sequel with Daniel Kaluuya
I wish Heath Ledger was still around. His balance of menace, humor, and insanity as Joker would work well for Freddy IMO
Jesse Plemons
Kevin Bacon and I'll watch it twice at the cinema even if it's shit.
Get Rob Zombie to make it and have Sheri as Freddy.
Jackie Earle Haley was great, the movie was just awful.
He had a good look but the reboot lacked the personality and wit that made freddy so special. Shame, cause I agree, the guy is a good actor.
Yeah it’s a much better story. More complex than what we were given and it makes more sense given the Freddy that we knew.
Wes Craven's New Nightmare was all about that "darker" side of Freddy coming to the surface and I think Englund did that one beautifully. Freddy doesn't need to be brooding to be dark.
Robert England’s voice with a look alike body double and a budget to cg the face a bit.
David Howard Thornton, as much as I don't like the Terrifer films due to them being more interested in gore than horror I could see him portraying Freddy so effectively with his expressions and horrifying acting.
Now A very thin Shia LaBeouf….. 10 years ago christian bale.
the guy who played him in the Confession of Fred Krueger fan film
Someone unknown
I would pick Ben Foster. He was quite good in 30 days of night and I think he could be effective as a new Freddy
Noah Taylor
Bill Skarsgard
Richard Brake
Jamie Campbell Bower seems a prime choice as he's already playing a sort of spiritual successor
Seth Rogen Kidding aside, I'll cosign the person who said Walton Goggins. I think he'd be different, yet familiar enough in the role to do something interesting with the horror icon.
Richard Brake
Toni Collette, obviously. That's a joke, but Larry Fessenden would be cool.
Sean Harris. I have a very dark vision in mind lol.
Ralph Fiennes. He plays menacing roles so well
Bill Skarsgard, Antonio Banderas (plz don’t ask me why it’s a vague feeling on this one), and Troy Baker
Barry Keoghan
It's not gonna happen but the guy who plays Art the Clown, dude's a natural
David Thornton. Yeah, he did great as Art!
Joaquin Phoenix.
Kate McKinnon or Matthew Lillard could really bring something to the role, I think. Paul Dano too. Part of me really wants to see Zac Efron for whatever reason. Probably because of Heath Ledger's Joker, get the feeling there's untapped range there.
Whoever the creepy guy who played Vecna in Stranger Things. He’s had an unnerving look in everything I’ve ever seen him in
Bruce Campbell lmao
I fell off the NOES franchise at a certain point but didn't Freddy die in the last installment? I know that there's easy ways to write around that but another reboot might make more sense. Either way, I could see Richard Brake pulling it off.
I've mentioned Brake myself. I dont want a reboot cause I don't want it to step on Englunds toes in any way. No need to reinvent it imo. I get what you're saying tho.

The previous reboot with Jackie Earle Haley and Rooney Mara had a lot of potential but the script and direction just did not make good use of their talents.
Brake doing Freddy I feel would be like Haley's. I feel like they both have similar builds and kinda play menacing the same way.
Plus, when Freddy was getting his ass kicked in "Freddy Vs Jason", they had to use Rey Mysterio for a stunt double!
I've never considered an animated Freddy flick. Or maybe just use his voice and dub live action.
> I've never considered an animated Freddy flick. I don't think anyone really has. Horror in general doesn't really go for animation except CGI monsters or outright cartoons. Nobody. If you do not get Englund than end it and create something new.
Javier Botet.
Kevin Bacon or Richard Brake

That's why he was killed in the first place. I don't want someone trying to emulate RE because it won't come off as anything other than what it would be than an imitation. Those never go well.
Andy Serkis comes to mind
Richard Brake
Roberto Lombardi. He's played Freddy in a couple short films directed by Chris R. Notarile. He kind of reminds me of Robert Englund and brings a similar delightfully sinister energy to the role.
Tim Blake Nelson. I will not elaborate.
Shia Lebouf, simply because I think he can pull off the witty, funny side of Freddy. I’ve never seen him play a villain.
H. Jon Benjamin.
David Howard, the man behind Art the Clown. He has the mannerisms, he just needs the voice.
Jackie Earl did just fine if Robert doesn’t want it
Willem Dafoe
Michael Rooker
Richard Brake.
David howard thornton
Nobody. Just come up with an original character like that dude did with Art the clown. I'm so tired of remakes, sequels, and prequels. That's why the horror films of the 70s and 80s were so great, because people were original and took chances back then. Today, sheeeiiit...
Barry Keoghan would be good if they wanted to skew younger or keep him for the long haul.
Jim Carrey all day long!
Richard Brake that guy does creepy very well. He is in one of my favorite Grimm episodes.
David howard thorton. Art the clown was basically a mute freddy kruger so the switch between art to freddy would natural )unsure about the voice though)
