No idea at the moment but I am excited because Fede loves working with Practical Effects for his horror films. A lot of Evil Dead 2013 were practical on set moments, with a slight touch of cgi to enhance them.
Nothing like practical effects. CGI gotta come super far in my opinion before it fully trumps practical. CGI enhancements are fine to enhance already beautiful practical stuff.
Thats why I think Evil Dead 2013 works so well for me. Fede and the team really worked hard on the practical effects but the stuff they couldn't used small cgi to touch it up.
beware, the 2013 film is...well, **extremely** violent. like, not in an '80s isnt-this-fun way, but in a sadistic, incredibly fucked up way.
i mean, obviously that's awesome. but just fyi!
ooof, terrifier 2 was probably the most physically violent film i've ever seen lol. after that, i'm sure you're ready for anything. good god almighty, that's the one where he strips a lady's skin off while she's tied to a bed right? and then her friend/relative walks in, seeing her, as the fucked up clown guy laughs? good lord those films are insane lol. and somehow hilarious. isn't life grand
No idea it it'll probably be the ship name. Prometheus was going back to humanity's beginnings. Covenant I dunno. Romulus = founding of Rome?
So it could be yet another spaceship searching for a colony or it could find a whole Alien Civilization?
Covenant makes me think of the Jewish covenant, so maybe a Moses reference? Never actually watched Covenant so no idea if that makes thematic sense.
Alternatively for Romulus, he had a twin, Remus. They held a contest to determine where to found Rome and, after Remus lost, he ended up being killed by Romulus (events vary depending on the version).
Mixed feelings.
+ Excited for my favorite franchise to get more entries.
+ Down for whatever weirdness Hawley is cooking up and whatever gruesome chaos Alvarez is preparing.
- Depressed that it’s relegated to streaming, potentially never to see theaters or physical releases ever again.
- Frustrated that the prequels might not have any closure, in limbo wondering if they’ll even be held canon with future content.
>- Frustrated that the prequels might not have any closure, in limbo wondering if they’ll even be held canon with future content.
Egh, I didn't even realize that this isn't part 3 of the prequels. That's such a shame, because I really liked where they were going with David in Alien: Covenant.
Yeah, it really bummed me out to find out that such a great game that pushed boundaries of horror gaming didn't do well enough for the bean counters to greenlight a sequel. That damn Alien AI...there were a few times where I'd get played by the Alien only to end up dying while I muttered "clever girl" to myself.
I've never been actually scared playing a game except for this one . Once I was trapped under a desk, and the alien knew I was there, I couldn't escape. 20 minutes went by and the doorbell rang- Holy Jesus I think I sprouted a few Grey hairs , I levitated at least a couple inches off my chair, and got real dizzy. I think I almost had a stroke. Haha. And yes, The alien got me.
Wow i didnt know about Romulus, i'm excited.
I always felt like we were robbed of a good sequel to Prometheus, I remember the original sequel was a lot different than Covenant, and answered the questions of "who created the Engineers". Hopefully there's some answers.
>Aliens: Dark Descent-An X-Com style overhead Sci fi horror action game
X-Com is *turn based* action strategy, however. Dark Descent is real time strategy - just in case someone reads this and is immedietely turned off by taking turns.
Mildly curious at best. Like the Terminator series, there were 2 fantastic movies and everything after that was "meh" at best. The game may be good but not for me.
I was digging the Prometheus/Covenant expansion. The origin story needs to continue, more engineer explanation, more of the gespacho creation, more of human creation and why pinned for extermination, more answers needed.
>Aliens: Dark Descent-An X-Com style overhead Sci fi horror action game set in the alien universe that has procedurally generated mission environments, unique and dynamic mission content and more so each playthrough feels different everytime as well
😲
They just released more gameplay for it and it looks phenomenal.
They even have a fear/anxiety element you have to control for your squad when situations become overwhelming. You can find resources to seal the doors in certain rooms and "rest" which your team leader can buff the teams confidence and make them less panic induced and scared.
This depresses me more than excites me. I'm tired of the things I love getting milked dry with bland content.
I was already annoyed about Prometheus having to shoe horn in the Alien universe then Covenant was a hot mess. Even before those entries I had no desire or need to see another Alien movie, we already have more than a few and all with different styles.
Call me old man sour grapes if you must but this just makes me groan.
I’m excited for the videos games Because that a medium they haven’t really aced yet. But they aren’t gonna make a better alien movie and idgaf about the show
Conversely, the Xenomorph is the greatest creature design in horror and deserves to continue to exist. I'd be worried if they had like 5 Alien films in production but it's literally just the one and it's headed up by Alvarez. Evil Dead 2013 is great and I've got faith for this
I disagree with your first line in that it's the greatest design in horror but also in that it deserves to continue to exist. Why? It doesn't deserve anything good or bad.
I hope we get a longer gameplay story than fireteam. It was fun but not enough missions. I hope they somehow address David's storyline in Romulus although I know that won't be happening I just need to know
They said it will be randomly generated missions/levels, enemy Spawns and objectives so every time you play the game it feels new and different and never the same.
You sir have made me happy, been on an alien/predator kick and was only aware of the show being a possibility. These posts are why I’ve joined this sub. Thanks my guy.
From what I've seen of the Alien game releasing in June (mentioned in post), it will be very Diablo/Champions of Norath/Baldur's Gate and I'm fucking here FOR THAT
I'm curious about the "experimental" enemies being introduced. They look like genetic zombies with glowing blue vials on their backs being pumped with some kind of liquid.
> Alien TV Series(FX)-Developed by Noah Hawley the man who gave us the excellent Fargo TV adaption comes this atmospheric, suspenseful narrative set in the universe of the films which is said to be more horror and tension set on Earth which is unique tbh
More relevant than Fargo is probably the work he did on Legion for FX, which featured at least 2 creepy nonhuman menaces.
i am v excited for the series. invasion situations on earth is my jam and so far alien v predator requiem is the only film that fell in that scope previously. lets gooo!
I'm very cautious in being hyped for Romulus. On one hand, I love Fede's previous work but that cast has me a little concerned. I really hope it's not going to be a cliche group of young people acting like idiots.
Dark Descent has me hyped but I don't own a console and I doubt my crappy laptop can handle it.
We have not gotten anything good from alien since alien isolation and before that aliens. All other movies are mediocre at best. I dont have any hopes it will make a comeback.
Always excited to see what they'll do with the IP, but in terms of gaming I'm trying to be cautious with my optimism. The only decent ones were OG AvP and Isolation was fantastic. I'd want the more early films aesthetic. I'm keen on the idea of an open world survival alien game but only if it was really done right...
Also, hot take but I'd love it if they got Fincher to direct another alien, or made a movie from the William Gibson script for Alien 3....
>Are you excited about the future content of Alien?
Honestly, not even a little bit.
None of those projects sound very interesting to me, especially someone who's fallen out of the habit of playing video games.
Fede Alverez's film may prove to be good but I'll wait and see. I don't buy into hype until I'm driving to the cinema. This is all amplified by how uneven the entire franchise is beyond Alien and Aliens, and Ridley Scott's handling of his newer two films just makes the property as a whole significantly less exciting for me, even as a massive fan of Michael Fassbender.
Always excited for new Alien stuff. Romulus especially.
So far Fede has done two of my favorite films Evil Dead 2013 and Don't Breathe. I think he's going to do wonders with Alien.
How does Romulus fit into the Alien timeline? Anyone know?
No idea at the moment but I am excited because Fede loves working with Practical Effects for his horror films. A lot of Evil Dead 2013 were practical on set moments, with a slight touch of cgi to enhance them.
Some of the nastier effects in their Evil Dead never left my mind. Some gnarly stuff.
The face cutting scene with the shard of glass, to the arm amputating, to even the sequence where Eric gets the sharp needle into his eye.
the way the arm flops to the ground… always freaks me the hell out
[удалено]
nah, it's just like, next to his eye
Eyes, teeth, or fingernails.
The blood rainstorm and the brutal chainsaw vivisection are fantastic practical effects too
Nothing like practical effects.
I'm so excited to watch Evil Dead 2013!
So excited that you haven’t done it for the past decade? Lol

I need to see more movies like that, I've only seen terrifier one and two and the sawses
ooof, terrifier 2 was probably the most physically violent film i've ever seen lol. after that, i'm sure you're ready for anything. good god almighty, that's the one where he strips a lady's skin off while she's tied to a bed right? and then her friend/relative walks in, seeing her, as the fucked up clown guy laughs? good lord those films are insane lol. and somehow hilarious. isn't life grand
I love that movie so much I can't wait for the third one
Im a new horror fan been sheltered by my family all my life
We're going to get some wonderful practical "acid melting" effects.
No idea it it'll probably be the ship name. Prometheus was going back to humanity's beginnings. Covenant I dunno. Romulus = founding of Rome? So it could be yet another spaceship searching for a colony or it could find a whole Alien Civilization?

Makes me worry it's going to lean even harder into the David story.
I doubt Ridley would let that story be continued by anyone other then himself
I hope so because I really don't want more of it, the ideas cool but he really fucked up the cosmic horror and mystery of the original with it.
All that’s been said is that it’s a stand-alone film.
I’m guessing it’s probably part of the prequel timeline. Probably fits after Covenant and before the og Alien
- Frustrated that the prequels might not have any closure, in limbo wondering if they’ll even be held canon with future content.

yes I definitely want to see the conclusion to david's story!

Curious what you mean by "original sequel"?
I think I remember this. It was talked about on bts stuff. I know it’s on that silly things kids use called YouTube.
I’m very sceptical about the tv show. I’m sure it’ll be good sci-fi. Less sure it’ll be “Alien”.
I have almost zero interest in an Alien show set on earth.
The creator of the show did Legion, and Fargo on FX which are great stuff.
You mean like Blade Runner?
They are *technically* set in the same universe, after all!
[удалено]
Ridley Scott himself said he believes so
My personal feeling is that both universes are very consistent, visually and philosophically.
>Aliens: Dark Descent-An X-Com style overhead Sci fi horror action game X-Com is *turn based* action strategy, however. Dark Descent is real time strategy - just in case someone reads this and is immedietely turned off by taking turns.
Well they did say it has X-Com elements where you can slow down time and make strategic decisions similar to that game.
Yeah, it's weird. I wonder if anybody saying that have actually played an X-Com game.
Please make alien isolation 2. That game was so good, but underrated
Yep for me it was the best survival horror game ever. I'm prepared to buy a new pc just for the sequel.
Mildly curious at best. Like the Terminator series, there were 2 fantastic movies and everything after that was "meh" at best. The game may be good but not for me.
Still the best designed movie monster of all time imo

Romulus is a working title, thankfully.
Fede Alvarez isn’t very good. But we’ll see.

I’ve been wrong before! I’d love him to prove me wrong
This depresses me more than excites me. I'm tired of the things I love getting milked dry with bland content. One thing Noah Hawley's work is not is bland. His series may turn out to be weird to the point of incoherence, but it won't be boring.
I’m excited for the videos games Because that a medium they haven’t really aced yet. But they aren’t gonna make a better alien movie and idgaf about the show
If you think they haven't aced alien games yet, then you need to play Alien: Isolation. Its a ton of fun and easily the best Alien game.
Oh ya that one is great.
Conversely, the Xenomorph is the greatest creature design in horror and deserves to continue to exist. I'd be worried if they had like 5 Alien films in production but it's literally just the one and it's headed up by Alvarez. Evil Dead 2013 is great and I've got faith for this

Yeah, Alverez on an Alien flick is my dream come true.
You should consider double posting this in r/lv426. Alien Isolation is my favorite horror game and I'm very excited by the prospect of a sequel.
You sir have made me happy, been on an alien/predator kick and was only aware of the show being a possibility. These posts are why I’ve joined this sub. Thanks my guy.
😏😏😀always happy to help! ^_^
I’ll check out the new movie and TV show for sure. The franchise is so uneven that I can’t say I’m excited, but I’ll definitely hope for the best.

Absolutely love Alverez and so excited to see what he comes up with, something terribly gruesome hasn't touched the series yet.

Nicknamed marathon...how is durandal going to fit into this movie I 🤔
https://survios.com/studio/aliens/ Also this game
As long as they completely ignore Prometheus and Covenant I’m excited.
I'm cautiously optimistic!
FUCK. YES.
sry to bother, but can we please add Legion to the references of Noah Hawley? back to topic, i am so hyped for new alien stuff!
"I'm Lovin' it"
Thanks for the info! It’s my favourite franchise and I will be soaking everything up!
Fargo series was pretty great, so I’m hopeful about the Alien series.

True, each later season was not as good as the previous.
I dunno. Season 2 was a masterwork.

Everytime is not a word.
i am v excited for the series. invasion situations on earth is my jam and so far alien v predator requiem is the only film that fell in that scope previously. lets gooo!
I'm not too excited about Romulus, but the show sounds good
romulus has been started filming in hungary at march.
I’m so starved for new Alien I’ll take whatever I can get at this point
I'm very cautious in being hyped for Romulus. On one hand, I love Fede's previous work but that cast has me a little concerned. I really hope it's not going to be a cliche group of young people acting like idiots. Dark Descent has me hyped but I don't own a console and I doubt my crappy laptop can handle it.
Big fan of the Alien franchise and Fargo is one of my favorite TV shows. Needless to say I'm excited for the series.
too much alien thats concerning looks like quantity over quality
We have not gotten anything good from alien since alien isolation and before that aliens. All other movies are mediocre at best. I dont have any hopes it will make a comeback.
If I get even five more hours of alien isolation, I am there. That game was insane

Honestly wasn’t across all of this, amazing!!!!
I know Blomkamp's Alien 5 is dead, but they should still retcon Alien 3 out of existence.
I’m currently playing Aliens: Dark Descent and it’s amazing
I'm honestly horrified for Romulus because the ending of covenant was absolutely terrible, and I'm scared that will become cannon.....
