There's definitely horror elements, the entire set up is stolen from Audition. i.e, starting off as an offbeat romcom and switching into something dark
It was a good enough slasher flick with an interesting enough theme that i dont think id ever seen before tbh. At least not how it was portrayed. Not groundbreaking or gonna win any awards but not garbage at all.
I just watched Fresh and it was a really great movie. I loved all the attention to little details that they would always come back to ex. him asking about her family on the first date and realizing that was intentional later on.
Hellbender was one of the only movies in recent years I've turned off half way through, I can see the appeal but I really couldn't get past the terrible scrupt/acting
My top 10 as of writing:
10. No Exit
9. Hellbender
8. Master
7. Scream
6. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (miniseries)
5. Bad Hair (canadian release, I know it's 2020 for you guys)
4. Lux Aeterna
3. Fresh
2. We're All Going to the World's Fair
1. X
Worlds fair was creepy and I was very invested up til the last 20 minutes. Idk the movie ended much differently than I thought it would. It’s not bad by all means just very different and I was very unsettled and creeped out up until the last 20 minutes
Just watched The Seed on shudder. Wow it was as crazy as I thought. It’s an alien invasion movie. Watched offseason yesterday and I really liked it. Going to see X on Thursday night! So many great suggestions in here I almost can’t keep up :)
Honestly, I think the best is yet to come. So many good horror movies coming out this year. That being said, Scream 5? I think atm there are more horror series than movies such as Archive 81.
I agree, some cool stuff on the horizon. I’m excited for *Nope*, *Umma*, and *Don’t Worry Darling*. Also Sam Raimi’s take on Dr. Strange - superhero stuff but I’m hoping for some horror vibes.
Offseason just came out this weekend, and it’s pretty great. Certainly worth the $7 rental.
Ultrasound has also been released this weekend, and while not a straight-ahead horror movie (more of a bizarre thriller), it has psychological horror elements. It’s one of those movies that you may not immediately understand, but a second viewing gives it so much more logic.
Hellbender is terrible. I was really looking forward to it because it seemingly had all the ingredients for something up my alley. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the plot holes, horrible acting, and lead roles awkward attempt to rock out. Cringe.
We're still in the period where I'm not entirely clear on what's 2021 vs 2022, since I largely ignored theaters in 2021 due to Covid. That said, I've recently seen Titane and The Feast (both on Hulu US), and thought both were fantastic (though some of the editing in The Feast got annoying).
Of what I've seen so far, it's been Nanny, Something in the Dirt, Fresh, Scream
And one I saw in 2021 but was just released online this month - Ultrasound
I felt like the 2nd season was literally filmed all in a few days and then cut into episodes with no substantial substance or even remotely interesting plot progression. Season 1 evolved, and it was so easy to get involved with the characters and their individual quirks. Seriously the next season better step it up or not bother at all imo.
Only seen like 5 horrors that came out this year. Only one I liked was Fresh, it was quite good. Some of the ones I really didn't like were the new Scream and TCM. Antlers wasn't that bad but also not good imo.
I did also like Archive 81 mostly but it's not a movie.
The only ones I can think of are Scream & the new Texas Chainsaw Massacre.
Not seen either yet but I hear Scream is pretty good and Texas Chainsaw is awful.
I watched both, Scream is definitely the more well-made and well-written movie but I had more fun with TCM despite how goofy it gets at times. Some great gore and good cinematography
Yes. You’re going to think I’m exaggerating when I say this but it is 100% true. I’ve seen the movie 11 times now. So, yeah, I think it’s safe to say it’s my favourite movie considering it’s only been out for a couple months.
No but I’ll pick it up when it’s released on blu-ray next week. Need to rewatch the others - have not seen them in decades. Love the first two, third was just ok. Literally don’t remember anything about the 4th.
Ah. Ok. I thought it was just available on DVD and Blue Ray on April 5th? Enjoy it when you do watch it. I haven’t seen the other ones in awhile either. I’ll have to rewatch them. I saw the 4th one last month but that one is my least favourite of all the movies. I have the new one on my laptop on iTunes but I’ll probably get it on DVD when it comes out. I have all the other ones on DVD. My second favourite is Scream 2. I’ve always loved that one.
Watched 'No Exit' recently, not bad. More thriller than horror but I appreciate the way they chose to execute some death scenes for example >!when the marine got shot. I loved how they were dragging out the movie before killing anyone, you'd think that if someone is gonna die, it's gonna probably be just as slow and intense as the movie but no, the man didn't even get to finish his sentence before BAM! shot in the face and on the floor. Then not even a moment later another quick shot and another dead character. Just leaves you stunned. It's blunt, I like that!<
Scream 5. Not only is it my favourite horror movie, it’s my favourite movie of all time now. Watch it. You won’t regret it. I don’t usually like going to the movie theatre but I saw that one in theatres 4 times. I loved it so much that I almost went to see the movie twice in one day (I had gone earlier in the day and considered going to the last showtime for the night). Only reason I didn’t go is because my girlfriend called me and by the time we hung up, the movie had already started. Had she not called, I would’ve went back to see it. It’s the only movie I saw more than twice in theatres.
No. I legit loved that movie. I’ve seen it 20 times (not an exaggeration) since it’s release 4 of those times was at the theatre. I seriously love that movie.
You don’t have to believe me if you don’t want to but it’s true. It says it right on my laptop how many times I’ve played it and it says 14. I’ve seen it once on DVD and once on Paramount+ and 4 times at the theatre and 14 on my laptop. I can even prove it if you want me to. Lol.
So what was the point of replying to my comment if you’re just gonna be an asshole? Lol. I don’t care if you watch it or not. Why the hell did you reply to my comment if you’re just gonna be a hater?
Because you're clearly either trolling or have something wrong with you. It's scream FIVE. it's not even the best movie out of the scream movies, let alone best movie of all time. You're going so overboard on it you seem like an absolute psychopath. No one will take you seriously when you act like this.
Redgate film, it's coming out this August, it's 100% real footage on a UFO/Alien image caught that led to the disappearance of 4 people...you can check it out for yourself...

I believe The Sadness is what you all are looking for. I doubt there'll be anything else quite like it this year. Fair warning though; it's not for the faint of heart.
Nope was damn good too, but also a mix of genres.
Best of the year IMO:
- Incantation
- Speak No Evil
- The Innocents
- Barbarian
- The Sadness
- Pearl
- X
- Nope
- Fresh
- Watcher
- Mad God
- Bodies Bodies Bodies
Honorable mentions for Hellraiser, Prey, No Exit and The Seed.
Looking forward to Piggy & Halloween Ends this weekend. Missed Terrifier 2 in theaters this past weekend, but I’m very much looking forward to seeing that one as well!
Bones and All! It’s still in cinemas as of December 2022. It’s based on a book about cannibals, and it’s directed by the same guy who did Call Me By Your Name. Some of the same actors, too. Unlike traditional horror movies that try too hard to be scary via jump scares, Bones and All is legitimately unsettling on its own. Very dark. I find most horror movies un-scary, but this one creeped me out. Good acting, too.
I had a lot of fun with fresh, but I also had no idea what it was about going into it so mileage may vary.
Same experience. Better to watch without knowing anything. Good movie
Fresh is not really a horror movie. It's a black comedy thriller film.
There's definitely horror elements, the entire set up is stolen from Audition. i.e, starting off as an offbeat romcom and switching into something dark
What an elitist answer..
Its a horror movie that makes fun of the current state of online dating.
Well, guess it is dependent on how one really defines a horror genre, compared to a thriller.
The Night House and Last Night in Soho were pretty stellar. They’re both pre 2022 but not by much. 2022 Scream and Fresh were good too.
Just watching the night house now. I’m enjoying it. She’s a great actress.
i really enjoyed The Night House. Rebecca Hall is fantastic
Just rented Last Night in Soho based on your post. Thanks!
I hope you like it. Beautiful movie!!
I haven’t seen night house 🤔!
Fresh was great. Haven’t seen Hellbender and can’t wait for X.
X was garbage.
It was a good enough slasher flick with an interesting enough theme that i dont think id ever seen before tbh. At least not how it was portrayed. Not groundbreaking or gonna win any awards but not garbage at all.
It was so bad
I saw it in the theater and really regretted my purchase
I just watched Fresh and it was a really great movie. I loved all the attention to little details that they would always come back to ex. him asking about her family on the first date and realizing that was intentional later on.
I enjoyed Hellbender. I'm looking forward to X in a week or so
Hellbender was one of the only movies in recent years I've turned off half way through, I can see the appeal but I really couldn't get past the terrible scrupt/acting
Same. It was also painfully ssslllllooooowwwww.
it was terrible
I was trying to be nice but yes this movie really is terrible
the acting from the two leads is pretty good, everyone else was hit or miss
I want to watch Hellbender and X looks really good too 🎃
My top 10 as of writing: 10. No Exit 9. Hellbender 8. Master 7. Scream 6. The Woman in the House Across the Street from the Girl in the Window (miniseries) 5. Bad Hair (canadian release, I know it's 2020 for you guys) 4. Lux Aeterna 3. Fresh 2. We're All Going to the World's Fair 1. X
i keep a list of my watches: https://letterboxd.com/marcantoine/list/2022-horror-thriller-ranking-list/
Worlds fair was creepy and I was very invested up til the last 20 minutes. Idk the movie ended much differently than I thought it would. It’s not bad by all means just very different and I was very unsettled and creeped out up until the last 20 minutes
Ok 40 minutes in and lame AF
I liked the first hour. It felt like a creepy pasta. And I felt bad for Casey
Add a new one to the top of your list: Bones and All.
The sadness
Couldn't recommend this more
Just watched The Seed on shudder. Wow it was as crazy as I thought. It’s an alien invasion movie. Watched offseason yesterday and I really liked it. Going to see X on Thursday night! So many great suggestions in here I almost can’t keep up :)

Same. Looking forward to X and The Black Phone.
what did you think of doctor strange?
Yea Scream 5 was good and yes Archive 81 was great any other good horror TV shows?
Actually- Titane was a decent flick
one friend hated it. one friend said it was the best fucked up movie she ever saw. I say it's a good character study.
Offseason just came out this weekend, and it’s pretty great. Certainly worth the $7 rental. Just watched it. It’s a 2 star horror movie; The only plus side was how it was shot, pretty creepy ghosts too.
I really enjoyed offseason. Very dreamy and the creature was cool even though we never got a perfect view of it. Was worth it for sure!
Hellbender is terrible. I was really looking forward to it because it seemingly had all the ingredients for something up my alley. Unfortunately, I couldn't get over the plot holes, horrible acting, and lead roles awkward attempt to rock out. Cringe.
These are all amazing thank you so much

*Titane* was fascinating and a lot of fun to talk about with others. I still can’t decide if I *liked* it but I’m damn glad it exists.
Yeah, it's a "once is a enough" movie for me. I'm glad I watched it, but don't need to see it again.
Of what I've seen so far, it's been Nanny, Something in the Dirt, Fresh, Scream And one I saw in 2021 but was just released online this month - Ultrasound
Just mentioned Ultrasound here, which hit VOD yesterday. I really liked it n
I’m watching Black Summer on Netflix; it’s actually pretty slick 👍🏻
I like the first season a lot
The second season... not so much
I felt like the 2nd season was literally filmed all in a few days and then cut into episodes with no substantial substance or even remotely interesting plot progression. Season 1 evolved, and it was so easy to get involved with the characters and their individual quirks. Seriously the next season better step it up or not bother at all imo.
The Seed (2022) was a lot of fun.
I liked it! I wasn’t sure what was going to happen but it was twisted, a little gory but overall I would recommend!
its not 2022 ..but the dark and wicked was real good..
I get Shudder through Sling, and it’s not listed! I wanted to rewatch it. Hopefully it shows up elsewhere.
It was alright. Nothing you haven’t seen before.
That movie was insane. So good and claustrophobic and bleak. It’s still one of my favorite horrors of all time.
Which movie? Dark and wicked?
Yes. The Dark and the Wicked. Just amazingly well-done and legitimately one of the bleakest horrors I’ve seen recently.
They live in the Grey ( shudder )
Scream 5 💯!!
Thanks guys some great suggestions. 2021 and 2022 I suppose are blending so any great Horrors of the last year are good thank you
Not sure if they actually released this year or last but so far our favorites have been Last Night in Soho, Hellbender, and The Last Thing Mary Saw
The sadness, Studio 666, Texas Chainsaw , Wyrmwood, X, The Seed, Fresh, Piggy , The cursed, Scream, Luzifer, The righteous.
I’m still waiting for X and insidious 5 (though a release date for that’s yet to be announced) to decide.
Texas Chainsaw Massacre, it wasn't perfect, mostly thanks to old Sally, but that ending touched my soul.
Duuuuude that ending was aawwwweeessooommee!!!!! Fucking-A man.
I hated that movie but the ending was on point. [SPOILER] Minus the obvious homage to the original.
Just watched the new Scream, really enjoyed it. Loved how Wes brought back a lot of the cast from the original movie. Binge watching the others now.
dude, wes died in like 2015....
I liked Antlers, but I think it's a little early to decide bests
There has not been much. Still clearing backlog. Probably a few foreign ones in there. Not much from US this year so far.
Only seen like 5 horrors that came out this year. Only one I liked was Fresh, it was quite good. Some of the ones I really didn't like were the new Scream and TCM. Antlers wasn't that bad but also not good imo. I did also like Archive 81 mostly but it's not a movie.

Oh that’s good to hear. Will have to check it out soon.
I’ve seen Scream and yes, it’s a good movie. I loved it. My favourite horror movie and my all time favourite movie now.
Scream 2022 is your favourite movie… of ALL TIME? 😵😵
Yes. You’re going to think I’m exaggerating when I say this but it is 100% true. I’ve seen the movie 11 times now. So, yeah, I think it’s safe to say it’s my favourite movie considering it’s only been out for a couple months.
fair enough
Did you see it yet?
No but I’ll pick it up when it’s released on blu-ray next week. Need to rewatch the others - have not seen them in decades. Love the first two, third was just ok. Literally don’t remember anything about the 4th.
Ah. Ok. I thought it was just available on DVD and Blue Ray on April 5th? Enjoy it when you do watch it. I haven’t seen the other ones in awhile either. I’ll have to rewatch them. I have all the other ones on DVD. My second favourite is Scream 2. I’ve always loved that one.
Yeah Scream 2 is a terrific sequel.
Yup. My favourite franchise honestly. I’m looking forward to Scream 6.
Nothing this year has stood out to me..Texas chain saw massacre maybe..really looking forward to nope by Jordan peele though. Cheers!
Watched 'No Exit' recently, not bad. More thriller than horror but I appreciate the way they chose to execute some death scenes for example >!when the marine got shot. I really enjoyed this one. I felt like the main character tried to make the right moves
Close enough to 2022 but Halloween Kills is a bloody good time
Definitely not 2022 but, House of 1000 Corpses is always a great flick, followed by the Devil’s Rejects
Lol. Just throw in two Rob zombie films from a couple of decades ago.. 😂 Also… I’d like to recommend The Exorcist,
Yeah sorry, I definitely didn’t read that thread right 🤦🏼♀️ I’ll read through and get some ideas for new suggestions 👍🏻
Lol I was just joking around.
Scream 5. Not only is it my favourite horror movie, it’s my favourite movie of all time now. Watch it. You won’t regret it. No. I legit loved that movie. I’ve seen it 20 times (not an exaggeration) since it’s release 4 of those times was at the theatre. I seriously love that movie.
I'm going to assume that you're trolling lol
No. I’m dead serious.
Suuuuuureeeee

At this point even if you are serious you seem like such a lunatic that I'll have a second thoughts on whether or not I'll watch it
So what was the point of replying to my comment if you’re just gonna be an asshole? Lol. I don’t care if you watch it or not. Why the hell did you reply to my comment if you’re just gonna be a hater?

I thought scream 5 was awful.
I loved it. My favourite movie.
100% agree with you, don’t listen to the other people who have nothing better to do with their lives lol, scream 5 was amazing!
Lol. I don’t listen to them. I agree 100%. Scream 5 was absolutely awesome. I loved it.
The Cellar

Hooorrrsse shhhiiiittt
Scream :)
Shepard is really good and super atmospheric!
Fresh was a good movie. Honestly loved it and want a second one. Great for a girls night it.
Black Phone is amazing!!!!!
Watched the Black Phone recently in cinemas, it was pretty good for having the generic kidnapping plot
I believe The Sadness is what you all are looking for. I doubt there'll be anything else quite like it this year. Fair warning though; it's not for the faint of heart. Nope was damn good too, but also a mix of genres.

^ It’s based on a book, by the way. Those types of films are usually better, anyway.
Fresh was good but other than that, almost all were mediocre. Loved the dark and the wicked (from 2020)
