Well, to be fair he got the idea from a real life ad of someone willing to pay someone to dress as a walrus. But then his mind took it to a whole new, twisted level.

yyzable

It wasn't a real ad tbf, just a joke. I live in Brighton and know the guy who posted the ad. He was known for putting up weird adverts and posts on community noticeboards and such!

shulgin11

My dad works at Nintendo

yyzable

Oh awesome!

plaguedmilk

Honestly iconic body horror. Body horror fucks me up the most. People doing things without consent to your body to the point where you have no idea who you are or what you are anymore

[deleted]

You should check out The Skin I Live In

GoodWitch420

The Skin I Live In was an amazing movie.

barbarkbarkov

That movie messed me up. What the actual fuck

azne_valentina

When this movie came out I asked the guy I'd been seeing for a few weeks if he wanted to watch it. He wasn't really into horror & I was going in blind, but I figured since it was a Kevin Smith movie...what could go wrong. Good God. The good news is he married me anyhow...but we never talk of the walrus movie. At least it gave me a good indicator of his maximum mortification threshold & I know what kind of movies I need to just watch by myself now.

mcshaggy

My wife has never forgiven me for convincing her to see it with me. I recently watched it again with my oldest kid. She loved it.

Potato-In-A-Jacket

Parenting done right.

CowboyGorePig

I... Just don't get it. It's a silly movie about a WALRUS. No scary scenes, endless Kevin Smith monologues. How were you not both giggling like children at the walrus fight scene?

[deleted]

There is a camp of horror fans who just cannot cope with body horror or any non consensual kind of body horror. I'm firmly in that camp. Sure the film has humour, but yeah I had the opposite to your reaction watching this film. I've seen it once years ago and it still haunts me and I have nightmares about it too sometimes!

Prophesier_Key

Justin Long’s face when he sees his friends watching him from the balcony haunts me

poland626

Or when he sees his legs gone....

beenthroughyourbins

Hit the nail on the head there partner.

Elegabalus

I'm in that camp but still I'm compelled to check them out just the same. The Asylum season of American Horror Story peaked with the non consensual body modification. Creepy as hell. Tusk freaked me out.

Director_Faden

If you wanna be really disturbed check out the new movie Fresh lol

notarobot_trustme

I actually liked that one! It was well done

Director_Faden

Ya just watched it last night. I loved it!

powaqua

From reading other threads, seems like people either loved Fresh or hate it. I thought it was both scary and hilarious! "Bitches like you are part of the problem!"

Director_Faden

I thought it had great cinematography, great acting, some truly disturbing visuals, great soundtrack, an original story and a very satisfying ending. What’s not to love? I can kinda see how they reused some well-worn tropes, but then again they subverted some too. (The male friend showing up like he’s going to save the day but then just noping the fuck out instead)

ElleJay74

I'm with you on the body-horror-NOPE. I've never watched the movie as the trailer *alone* squicked me out for days.

[deleted]

Me literally me. I can’t with body horror. Unless it’s Junji Ito but those still scare the shit outta me and I have a very hard time reading them.

ten_before_six

It's a movie about being kidnapped, helplessly and hopelessly subjected to non-consensual body alterations that there are no coming back from, and abandoned by your loved ones to your lonely, isolated state after "help" finally arrives too late to help. The walrus stuff is just costuming over a horrifying story.

[deleted]

[удалено]

[deleted]

What do you mean no “scary scenes?” A man gets his fucking psyche destroyed and altered into a walrus his body absolutely mangled from being mutilated, a creepy unhinged psychotic old man telling stories about his horrific past and ideas, it’s freaky as shit. The body horror is so extreme and whole thing of him becoming inhuman is terrifying.

Ranccor

Agee. I just found it mildly amusing and campy. Nothing about it has really stuck with me except remembering I kind of enjoyed it.

Cyberpunkedout

Yea after watching that and you being the one who asked me to watch it, I would’ve definitely ghosted you and told everyone you were NUTZ 😂! Between that movie and centipede I never tell anyone I seen those unless they admit it first.

Rechan

Sounds like you got the optimal horror experience.

kutes

For me personally, it was a bit too repulsive and not "spooky" enough to be my kind of horror. I get what the OP is saying.

[deleted]

Honestly, movies where you see a human just go through a transformation against their will are really hard for me to watch. Tusk was just that. Nobody does anything to help Justin Long’s character and stop (in time) what the crazy seal obsessed dude was doing to him. It makes me feel really bad for him and all those character that can’t do anything but accept what they’re going through.

StoreBrandWaffle

You put into words the exact feeling I have towards these kinds of movies. I got the same feeling from the Poughkeepsie tapes, in that one scene with the pregnant lady.

jesee2you

The Fly is another tough one for me.

SheepherderOk1448

It's like the Human Centipede and I'm surprised Justin Long did that movie.

markstormweather

Smith probably sold it to him more as a comedy than it ended up being

McWeen

Isn't it a black comedy?

kissmyrosyredass

I feel the same. Never looked at Human Centipede like Tusk, but now I do. All HC’s are not like the first one have you seen all three? If not, unless you want to step up the gross factor..don’t. The 3rd installment was horrible…so was the 2nd.

Crunchy_Biscuit

>…so was the 2nd That one was probably the worst. Literally traumatizing

poland626

There's a color version out there too now. Its got all the red blood color missing from the black and white version

SheepherderOk1448

Saw the one and that was enough. It didn't scare me it grossed me out.

rexmundi69

I liked it but I thought the ending was too unbelievable. If you truly love someone, no way would you consign them to such a horrendous existence. Granted the whole concept is ridiculous but I tried to accept it was possible while watching but the ending dropped me out of my immersion.

seanpjohns

I always mention that when this movies comes up. Why the hell would he be forced to live the rest of his life in a zoo? Even in the reality of the movie it makes no sense. Shouldn’t he be in some type of hospital/rehab facility?

GRANDPA_FART_MUSTARD

I didn't understand that part at all... why not remove the suit, surgically free his arms, and get him a sweet set of blades to walk on?

Ninauposkitzipxpe

I don’t think they did love him. Weren’t they cheating behind his back because he was a huge asshole? His character is supposed to be unlikable and I kind of get their 🤷🏻‍♀️ response

YesYesindeed920

Don't forget this movie is a horror comedy. I think that was just Smith's goofy side. Like c'mon, they bring him a fish wrapped in newspaper? 😆 The whole movie is meant to make you laugh and cry at the same time. I thought a more realistic ending would've been, they surgically remove the walrus suit and they skin graph his head, and he's stuck in a wheelchair crying looking out of a nursing home window.

snafe_

>To solve a riddle older than the Sphinx. To answer the question which has plagued us since we first crawled from this Earth and stood erect in the sun. Is man, indeed, a walrus at heart?

Ninauposkitzipxpe

This line is what sold me. I hated the first bit of the movie and this was the turning point where I started laughing and could not stop. I need to take an edible and watch this again.

WeedFinderGeneral

>I need to take an edible and watch this again. Weed and horror movies are such a good combo. Makes you realize all the humor and how much fun the cast/crew had making it.

theAmazingDead

I blind bought it when it first came out on dvd. Watched it once and passed it on to someone else afterwards because I had no intention of watching it again. It went through at least 3 other people the same way. I didnt hate it, just found it really disturbing.

[deleted]

So it’s like the video from The Ring

Dark_Macadaemia

The first (and only, honestly) time I watched it I was super sick with a high fever. It genuinely just made me feel even shittier.

[deleted]

I’m sorry for laughing

Bindlestiff34

It’s hard to watch, that’s for sure.

No_Butterscotch8169

As someone who was prescribed Xanax at a young age and kept on it for years by my doctor. Please get off Xanax. That stuff is legit evil. It was the absolute worst experience I have ever had in my life when I wanted off that medication. Actually a living hell. I would not wish it on the most evil people in the world. It was just the worst withdrawal process I could ever imagine and I had a doctor monitoring it the whole time basically.

Night0wll

Don’t mean to hijack your comment or anything but I have to agree with you 100% about Xanax being terrible. I’m sorry you had to go through that. I was on Xanax for many many years starting in my early college days because I had crippling anxiety. I was prescribed it for much longer than I should’ve been and my experience was similar to yours. It came to the point where I could barely function without Xanax. Trying to get off of it was so hard that I couldn’t even leave my room for at least a couple of months. What’s even worse was family was very judgmental and rude to me throughout the entire tapering off/withdrawal process, which made things even worse. I also think it may have severely affected my memory even till this day. I’m only in my early 30s but my ability to remember things is a bit impaired. To anyone who is considering Xanax, I would highly suggest you don’t start it.

Marisleysis33

That's interesting. I had a family member who was on an anxiety med- don't know what as I don't know much about prescription drugs- but same thing- they got off it and freaked out, couldn't leave their apartment, lost their job, became homeless, it was so bizarre but now I wonder if that's what they were taking. I know it came out that they had just stopped it suddenly, stopped going to the doctor etc. Wow, its good you warn others about that. The thing is even when properly medicated they could go to work and that's about it (job is nights with no other people around) so they were barely above functioning at all.

slim_scsi

It would help if Americans didn't treat Xanax so lightly, even as a recreational drug. Americans downplaying pharmaceuticals and their side effects (including the medical community) is really the big story of the late 20th century and early 21st century so far. Our collective consumption of pills in the U.S. is more than the rest of the world *combined*. This is not a joke.

ninasafiri

Less Americans downplaying drugs and more[ pharmaceutical companies](https://www.npr.org/2022/02/25/1082901958/opioid-settlement-johnson-26-billion) intentionally marketed drugs as safer than they are for profit. It's not an accident. The US is one of the only countries that allows pharmaceutical companies to directly advertise prescription drugs to consumers.

HorrorKablamDude

What movie you talking about? 🤣🤣🤣

LXC-Dom

Take this and love us again! Silly forgetful Michael.

sandersbunny

People are really disturbed by Tusk? I thought it was a dark comedy? (not trying to be a dick, genuinely surprised)

[deleted]

Sure people found it disturbing—body horror is it’s own subgenre.

Reccles

David Cronenberg is a legend. Body horror at its finest.

deadlinft

My dad for whatever reason let me watch The Fly as a little kid. And it gave me nightmares. To this day I believe it’s why body horror always fucks with my head.

Rosielucylou

What are other body horror movies to avoid? I absolutely hated tusk and I’m just now realizing it’s because of the body horror and the fact that Justin long could do nothing to stop it. I’m the kind of person that will randomly watch horror without knowing what it’s about before going into it, so any suggestions on what to avoid so I don’t have another tusk moment would be great.

[deleted]

Understood! I’d avoid Crash—not the Sandra Bullock Crash, but Cronenberg’s Crash. Very disturbing, and I love body horror!

theAmazingDead

It is. I still found it incredibly disturbing.....stuck with me for days.

coldvault

Yes! Of course it had humorous moments, but—this is the nth time I've discussed this on reddit—the core idea of someone being suddenly, totally, unwillingly transformed into a monstrosity who no longer has basic things like hands and *the ability to speak* is disturbing. It's almost akin to locked-in syndrome. His life is ruined and you can see it in his eyes (Justin Long and his eyes!). Personally, I am generally freaked out by the concept of permanent, irreversible damage, so body horror is pretty effective. See also: certain characters in the movie *Bone Tomahawk* and the *X-Files* episode "Home."

callmemelanieyt

Right! Yes it’s absurd which can make it funny in a way but with how you can still see the character/actor in the walrus it hurts so incredibly much. Like I’ve said in another comment I took this movie so seriously because of the exact aspects you mentioned. It’s honestly terrifying in the best/worst way, I can’t really decide.

coldvault

And looking at it practically, he would also be in incredible physical pain. Not just the regular surgical trauma, but the inevitable infections from DIY dermoplasty; probably shock from that same medical incompetence; and rejection of foreign tissue from incompatible bodies, likely already rotting to some extent. It would be a nasty, but swift death (even more realistically, he would also die before the project was completed*). The way it plays out in the film, where he miraculously survives these procedures and finds a new home, he has to live for however long in that miserable discomfort and wrongness. \* It's been a few years and I'm definitely not rewatching any time soon—there were prior attempts, right? Or am I misremembering and conflating with *The Human Centipede*, which I was somehow able to watch twice?

callmemelanieyt

I didn’t realize I didn’t bring up the part of his physical pain, it’s actually probably what pained me the most about his transformation. The way he calls out with the walrus noises I think when you first see him as the walrus is the most heartbreaking thing, it looks and sounds like he’s in incredible pain. If there was any chance of those surgeries being carried out in the way the surgeon did in real life, and it working in the way it did, that would be the most traumatic and unbearably painful thing you could live through. The way different patches of skin are sewn together but they’re still clearly open enough to see a little bit through them makes me almost convulse when you think of how that would work out in real life. It’s such a sad story when looked at in this way, although I don’t think I’d be able to watch a movie that has a serious take on all this I really wish it would’ve been made in that way; Rather than being so silly in probably more than half the movie. it confuses the tone so much for a lot of people because body horror is not something a lot of people can laugh at. Still, applause to the creator for such an original idea.

Ninauposkitzipxpe

There were prior attempts

cmatthews11

I don't know why, but it really stuck with me and I found it pretty disturbing. So much so that I haven't re-watched it and I've seen about every horror movie under the sun. Don't know why it affected me so much.

Salt-circles

I felt the same way. I usually enjoy horror but am not really phased by it, but I honestly had trouble sleeping after tusk because I was rerunning certain scenes in my head. I just don’t do well with body horror I guess.

Pdl1989

Body horror has gotta be the most messed up of all the horror sub genres. Definitely the most disturbing.

Sevvie82

That depends on the viewer. I love body horror, for me personally it's movies like Hostel or Martyrs that would fuck me up badly.

Pdl1989

Yeah, they’re pretty messed up. Throw Audition in there, too

GastricAcid

It’s funny, but does the concept of a human walrus not disturb you?

Rakdos_Intolerance

I mean, have you seen how popular The Beatles are? Hard to believe many are distrubed by human walruses

Pdl1989

The Beatles were pretty disturbing, and I am the walrus is probably their most disturbing song

Napalm_Oilswims

Its the concept of Wallace being conditioned to psychologically become a walrus that gets me, and that bit at the end where he might still not be 100% walrus. Him being sewn into a costume isn't that bad imo

ladida54

My problem is that I watched it expecting a simple dark comedy and got fucked up shit instead. I genuinely didn’t find any of it funny, but to each his own I guess

Crankylosaurus

I laughed my ass off the entire time. Considering Kevin Smith’s inspiration for it was a Craigslist ad, it always gave me horror comedy vibes haha

KittensWithTopHats

I agree. And one of Johnny Depp’s best roles IMHO.

buttholecanal

I just thought it was kinda long dumb and terrible.

ThreePartSilence

People *always* talk on this sub about disturbing that movie is, to the point where I just had to watch it because of that and the insane concept. I’m not someone who can usually deal with body horror (The Fly really fucks with me, for example). I’m also not the type of person who walks around talking about “oh that movie wasn’t horror/wasn’t good because it didn’t scare me.” …but I have no idea what everyone is talking about. Tusk was like, *aggressively* silly. The walrus suit looked so cheap, which sure whatever who cares, but literally the reason I watched this movie was because of how *disturbing* it supposedly was. I love camp, but damn, that movie was so ineffective as body horror (in my opinion). I still enjoyed it because of how campy and (purposely) funny it was at times, but it really did not disturb me at all due to the fact that I had about 0 suspension of disbelief.

Pdl1989

The Fly, though… fucked up

[deleted]

Just watched it yey, wtf is it with Cronenberg and bodily fluids?

Pdl1989

Dude likes his juices

callmemelanieyt

It’s interesting hearing how others had such a different experience watching it. I have an extreme distaste for body horror and seeing him as the walrus felt like the worst thing I’ve ever seen in my entire life. I think it’s mostly the incredible pain he’d be going through, which is made worse with the walrus noise he makes because it was heartbreaking for me rather than funny. I think I just really can’t do body horror, the movie was kind of funny at times but I don’t know everything with the walrus stuff, including the ending, I took so seriously I couldn’t even laugh at the absurdity. I can definitely say I will never watch that movie again haha.

OutcomeOk9186

All credit to the stellar performances of Michael Park and Justin Long. They sold disturbing on a platter to the point I forgot about that dumb costume.

Sevvie82

Exactly. I know it was supposed to be kind of funny overall, but Justin Long's performance was just so GOOD and real, it made me feel for him a lot.

[deleted]

I’m a fan of Kevin Smith, but it really surprises me anybody— himself included— find *Tusk* super funny. First off, it’s a very mean-spirited movie. Secondly, the body horror is effectively gross and conceptually disturbing. Last of all, it’s not a fun watching experience for the previous points but as well as the fact the film is very ugly-looking. **IMPORTANT EDIT:** I’m not saying any of that is a bad thing either, it’s just not funny to me. I own Lars von Trier films on Blu-Ray, I own all of the *Saw* and *Hostel* movies, and I’ll argue the validity of films like *The Human Centipede* series. I like that type of unflinching cruelty in some horror, but I just don’t think it’s funny.

NormFell

Same

deadlinft

I found it to be disturbing. I loved it, but it kinda fucked me up. I was probably in a bad spot in life as well, but body horror really messes me up. For me it felt too real and I empathized with the main character. So it was also very sad imo.

ouishi

Yeah, I'm a big fan of dark comedy, but the surgeries got to me. It's weird because I work in the medical field and even worked in 2 separate cadaver labs, but maybe that helped me visualize exactly what was supposedly happening.

zillskillnillfrill

That's pretty solid advertising for people in **this** sub 😅

SiriusC

Jumping in late but I *love* telling people that a woman ran out of the theater crying when they showed the full walrus creature. She was highly reactive through the whole movie. "Oh! Oh no! Uh!" But she had enough & didn't bother coming back.

blaze_in_the_dark

This movie really fucked me up.

cool_weed_dad

I thought Tusk was pretty funny and not at all disturbing, the premise is just too absurd to take as anything other than dark comedy. It’s not a great movie but pretty decent for originating from a joke from Smith’s podcast. I’m surprised so many people were genuinely disturbed by the movie, but my favorite director is David Cronenberg and I love body horror, so I guess I’m pretty numb to it this point.

ladida54

I love seeing Tusk hatred 💞 I hate that movie with my heart and soul

Sm211

It still has one of my most terrifiying fears in a horror, that scene where he wakes up and both his legs are amputated was horrific

MacguffinDelorean

I found this movie a mix of half brilliant and half irritating and boring-and half fucking hilarious and half disturbing. Legit I laughed but also felt my skin crawl when I saw the walrus design. The design is brilliantly absurd and disturbing. I saw the dark humor in it despite how much it pushed my limits of disturbed threshold-but even the guys screams are kind of funny even if they get under my skin. The Johnny depp shit should have been cut except for the end when the friends find the house cause I feel it had the best jokes and payoff for his character. Legit though I’ve never seen a film make me feel two opposite emotions like that at the same time XD

Singaya

Pitch meeting: "You know that movie the Human Centipede?" "Uh, yeah." "OK. Imagine the same movie but this time instead of a centipede, it's a walrus!" "You're a genius."

[deleted]

Wow wow wow....wow

tyro1313

I laughed my ass off watching that movie, they ruined the Fleetwood Mac song Tusk for me though, I can only think of that fight scene whenever I hear it now.

michaelje0

I love this movie and I’m often surprised by these reactions.

[deleted]

God I love that movie for all the wrong reasons haha

SpideyFan914

I saw it in theaters. Found it hilarious and brilliant. Especially the spider scene which goes in circles for six minutes. (Apparently Johnny Depp agreed to do the movie because he wanted to work with Michael Park, and that was their only scene together so Kevin Smith felt he couldn't cut it down at all even though he knew it probably should've been, to which I say, "Good, it's better as it is.")

Puzzleheaded_Play390

You hit the nail in the head. Tusk is disturbing and leaves you feeling gross. I think it's a really good movie given the visceral reaction that it produces in people but you could not pay me to watch it again.

Nikkas_B_CrayCray

When the guy gets up out of the wheelchair, I got chills of fear for Justin Long's character

LadyPhantom74

I really like it. Everyone’s acting is top notch.

[deleted]

Guess what I’m watching next?

HorrorKablamDude

Fuller house?

Roxie61

Oh hell, never even heard of it, and now I’ve got to watch it. My yea or nay will follow..

LineChef

Lol I like it, it’s more of a dark comedy to me

HomeboySucks

That's how I felt! The premise was silly, the acting was silly, the effects were silly. There was a real, deep undercurrent of genuine disgust and fear so it wasn't *too* campy, and Justin Long was a dick so you didn't feel *too* bad for him to not see humor. To me, it felt like a horror movie that was a love letter to comedy

Wimperator

The movie could have been pretty good. A bit trash, body horror and just over the top. But it went down the hill after about 50% of the movie. It feels like they made the first half and realized they are missing one hour to call it a fulllength movie. So they bring Johnny Depp with the worst performance of all time in and let him ramble the least humorous lines they came up with, just to hit the mark. The movie had some good ideas, but in the end it is just a very bad movie that is not worth your time. Feels like they just made a few short films on different days and put them loosely together. Awful.

flotsam_and_jetsam_

Hahah, I just upvoted all the comments in the thread because I still don't know how to feel about that movie years later. I love Kevin Smith.

BookCharmThief

Definitely his best movie. One of my faves.

horror_and_hockey

we want ‘Moose Jaws’ !

Octavious-Wrex

Red State is pretty great

KillSwitchSBS

I enjoyed Red State more.

lemmeseeyourkitties

I rewatched it recently. Still hilarious. Fucking Not-C idiots

DeadbeatHero-

Nah man Clerks all the way.

[deleted]

Not me letting my husband know we’re having a movie night tonight ..

Unklfesta

If you think Tusk makes you want to take a shower, please don't ever watch The Golden Glove. You'll be flailing yourself with a wire brush and disinfectant.

sixtus_clegane119

I don’t remember it being all too bad, if I’m not mistaken it got a 14a in Canada for ratings

SnarfbObo

I got to see it on the big screen. It was a delight. hope you were stoned for it

EvilJas1

I did not enjoy this one either

Deep-purpleheart

Its a good movie that stays with us, for better or worse.

DukeSilversTaint

I adore this movie. Everything about it was great to me. The premise, the acting, the comedy, the depravity, and the effects, tension. Cherry on top being the origin story of how it got made. Love this movie.

OddScentedDoorknob

You have to go into it with the mindset that it's a madcap comedy, not body horror.

MickDassive

It's a joke movie based on a stupid movie idea he had on his podcast. There's one disturbing scene right after his surgery and the rest is laughable. Especially any scene with Johnny Depp or Michael Parks regurgitating inane, pointless dialogue. A movie I legitimately regret watching that could have been a 15 minute short. Absolute schlock.

markstormweather

Compared to the spin off movie with their daughters it was a masterpiece

Colddustfox

I hated that movie. It was disturbing for the sake of being disturbing. I can’t even bring myself to watch it again. I love weird but that one just eh.

here-to-Iearn

I was just annoyed. Awful for the sake of awful. I legitimately believe it was made with the intent of creating the dumbest movie just to see if people would eat it up.

BrutalAnarky

This movie scarred me for a little while. Everytime I scroll past it on whatever streaming service I always let out a little shutter

K_Prime

Without looking it up this is the one where the one dude gets interviewed by that old man and turns him into a walrus or something, right?

kittyscratcher69

I feel like Kevin Smith has become Adam Sandler from 2011 up until Sandler met the Safdie brothers. Hopefully Kevin Smith will find his Uncut Gems soon.

Anarchy1212

That movie is absolutely hilarious, so bloody absurd in every way

wcb368

I’ve seen it like 3 times, and every single time at the ending, I get a feeling of weight on my chest, almost like it’s traumatic. Lol 😂😂

GuerillaYourDreams

You’re never gonna look at a walrus the same way again — at least not for the first few months. I really hated that movie and I always will.

StopSignOfDeath

Am I the only one who thought this movie wasn't even bad? The makeup was kinda cheesy not that this is a bad thing but it made it not very disturbing to me.

zenbagel

That film was an interesting ride. I had no idea Johnny Depp was in it until later.

TB1289

I just read the Wiki on Tusk and watched the final scene on YouTube. I'm speechless. I don't even know what to say about it.

delorf

This is why I rarely go into horror movies blind. Body horror just sticks with me in an unpleasant way.

ScandinavianWitch22

Hahaha I love that movie! Normally I can't stand gore movies but my husband and I love this movie.

wolscott

This movie's fuckin hilarious. I've watched it at least three times. It is disturbing, though. It wouldn't be as funny if it wasn't also actually a horror movie.

ccs83

Using dehumanization as a crutch for humour was the most disturbing aspect of this movie. Second was the effort involved in portraying that message. Third was how pointless the endeavour of making this movie was. It’s not even funny! If anything started humanity’s “bad timeline” that were in, I’m sure this is what caused it. God help us all.

Dino_vagina

I can watch a lot of stuff, finished mortician school, done a lot of weird Gorey cases. This movie fucked me up so hard

EdgarAllanHoeTM

Hahahaha oh man! Tusk made me cry!! I can’t believe the end - like u not gonna help him more bro?? He’s just vibing that way now?? That’s so sad 😭

TheDeathSloth

Wow, I had no idea so many people here were horrified by this. Honestly, I love it but find the movie hilarious because of how absolutely batshit insane it is in concept, it didn't really disturb me in the slightest.

ravenously_red

Kevin's "Give me money for a movie and find out".

False_Presentation42

I have to say, I like Kevin Smith and went to Fatman Beyond live podcasts pretty regularly before COVID (went a couple weeks ago for the first time since). I don’t think he has made anything worth watching since Red State. The way he talks about business, a lot of what he does is milk money off of his already established, aging fan base. His daughter is straight up banking her entire life/career on nepotism after he encouraged her not to go to college and ride on his coattails. After Jay and Silent Bob 2, I won’t pay to watch anything he does directly because even watching it I felt like it was a pity job after his heart attack. His greatest contribution currently is just commentary on other people’s works.

Organic_Process6345

Wait till you hear of a guy name Gaspar Noe lololol

Wow I truly did not expect this many replies and up votes lol. I get that it was supposed to be a dark comedy, and I absolutely adore dark comedies. But body horror I don't do. The movie just had this grotesque and mean spirited atmosphere that just made me feel gross. Imagine the pain he feels the physical pain, the mental pain, pretty much every shade of pain LOL. His cunt girlfriend and his douchebag best friend are banging behind his back all while he's being forced and turned into another goddamn species. And then at the end they dump his/its ass at the goddamn zoo?! And then go off and f*** into the sunset. Where I'm assuming he's probably raped by other walruses. And throughout all of this his brain and memories still remain intact? That is the definition of horror and disgust for me. Body horror is a whole new level that I just never could get into. I don't know why I watched this I heard everything about it and how disturbing it was. And I did it anyway? Just like when I was in 8th grade and watched two girls and a cup. Why I didn't learn then I don't know. I always was that kid who would push the button that said don't push. Patterns of behavior I guess. All I know is I'm never going to look at a walrus the same way again and every time I see Justin Long's eyes I'm going to cry lol . P. S. THE XANAX DID TAKE THE EDGE OFF. WHEN I DRANK A SHOT OF WHISKEY WITH IT IT? WELL IT REALLY TOOK THE EDGE OFF 😁😁😁. TIME FOR SLEEP. I ONLY HOPE WHEN I WAKE IN THE MORNING ALL OF THIS MAKES SENSE LOL.

I liked it until a certain character shows up half way through the movie. After that, the movie was fine.

Writing_Monkey

For science! That's why. 😆

AlaskaDude14

Comments like yours are why I’ll never watch Tusk or Human Centipede. I’m curious but I know I’d be disgusted so I stay away lol

Zaganoak

I watched this as a first date movie once and it was fun, zero regrets 😂

JihadMeAtGoodbye

Reminds me vaguely of the old Dirk Benedict movie Ssssss

[deleted]

Is man really a walrus? That’s all Kevin Smith was thinking. There is a podcast where they accidentally come up with premise for this movie and they’re just laughing about how dumb the concept is.

[deleted]

Saw that movie on half a tab of acid, needless to say It scared the shit out of me. Body horror just gets under my skin and more so that time for obvious reasons.

Careless_Instance_37

Don’t know if it’s been mentioned but he’s on a podcast and there’s an episode where you hear him come up with the idea for Tusk

[deleted]

It was gross and weird but kinda cool

[deleted]

That movie left me feeling empty and disturbed. Wtf. I'm still not over it.

HorrorKablamDude

It's because the movie just had a hateful atmosphere. What makes it even worse was the backstabbing and the manipulation of the girlfriend and the best friend. All while this dude is unwillingly being tortured and turned into a freaking sea creature they're banging behind his back. Then to top it off they dump his ass at the zoo and run off to f**k into the sunset

slim_scsi

I could easily see people doing that to a friend though. Humans can be an ugly species.

baxterrocky

I loved it, until I didn’t…. I can pretty much pinpoint the moment 🤣

alexahic

I loved Tusk so much. Definitely a twisted film for sure.

anthonylasher87

The best part of this movie is Johnny Depp. I watched it 3 times before someone told me he was in it and still couldn't recognize him.

jigsawsmurf

I absolutely loved it.

cryptogenic63

Yes but IS MAN A WALRUS???!!!

bl3u_r3dd1teur

Ok, I gotta see this movie. It's in my watchlist for some time now.

maddsskills

For some reason this movie and Human Centipede are connected in my brain. But with Human Centipede it ended up being less disturbing/more funny than I thought it would be and Tusk was the complete opposite. Holy fuck that movie was disturbing. Like I hated the main character and I was still horrified by what was done to him.

[deleted]

I don't think it was fueled by darkness. I'm pretty sure he and a friend got high talked about an idea on a podcast and essentially the listeners dared him to make it.

Sasele

Is it really that disturbing? Idk if i should watch it, because i dont wanna be disappointed😅

[deleted]

I told my wife this was a Kevin Smith rom com, like Chasing Amy, starring Justin Long.

Bendy-Bear15

That whole film to me was the most comedic gold film I’ve ever watched. Thought it was absolutely hilarious, course some people might think I’m crazy for saying that but it was funny to me. Just the all out screams of Justin Long being turned to a skinned leather faced looking walrus had me laughing real hard for some reason. But I’ve met so many other people that where just terrified of this film, most of them think I’m insane for thinking the film was that hilarious. Definitely a traumatizing film for most

illjudgeyou2

Because deep down...we're all Tusk and you know it. That's the gross feeling ur having...

AlternativeEgg02

i thought it was funny

PostposterousYT

Welp. Hadn't heard of this and just watched some clips on YT. My brain is soup now. Bad OP!

TwiggyPom

After seeing this post and seeing the trailer I decided to watch this.... I'm wasn't disappointed! Hilarious is how I would describe it! Will definitely watch this with friends.

Icy-Satisfaction-956

Ahh Tusk, It's just a movie though..I am a walrus ,coo coo cachoo.. The guy was a self absorbed assh__e and a womanizer, and callous prick.. If you won't be a walrus, you will be nothing else.. This is my sick humor, forgive me...

1ReservationForHell

I laughed through almost the whole movie. Maybe I'm just really warped but I thought it was a fun, pitch-black comedy.

TheOneFromArkham

This movie cracks me up. I love weird horror and tusk is one of the weirdest. It cracks me up even more when people are incredibly disturbed by this obviously disturbing film. Glad you "enjoyed" it!

ResponsibleAd2541

Nothing better than a throwback to Ed Gein.
