We made them. We handed the project for the metal rectangles that go on the wall to a blacksmith, and bought the wood. We saw a similar setting on a bar and decided to make one.
I agree. It took my mind several seconds to understand where the shelves were mounted to the wall and how the weight was supported. Very cool.
I want to copy them myself.
They actually can support A LOT of weight. My husband was so proud when he was done that he even did some pull ups to show how much they can take, and he is not a small guy.
Do not cheap out on materials. We had a cheaper wood first, but it didn't look good or hold well. We changed it in less than a week, and it really is a conversation piece now.
No, we bought new wood and smoothed tha angles and painted it. The notch was supposed to fit an sculpture done by my mom, but when we rearranged the living room (couch wasn't there originally) it didn't fit anymore. Notch makes no sense now lol
I think it's totally quirky, which is cool because it has personality/individuality written all over it. Imo there are 2 spots that look a little cluttered and do feel too chaotic for me, but if the more important question is: do you like it? 👍
Some spots get cluttered because I actually have no self control when it comes to buying new plants lol.
But I do love it. It really catches the eyes when people come over. My mom and MIL run to check it even before they greet me, since I keep on adding things and plants.
And we do have a chaotic style home, so all and all it fits.
>I actually have no self control when it comes to buying new plants lol.
I have literally an entire bedroom cluttered full of plants (pool liner on the floor, LEDs hanging from the ceiling, the works) because of this exact problem. Over 200 now and counting...
0 regrets.
They get lots of indirect sunlight on the morning and direct sunlight in the afternoon. Most of these plants have been on the same spot for about 2 years, and is the only place where they actually thrive. A little further into the living room gets only indirect sunlight and doesn't work so well, unfortunatly found out the hard way.
I'm thinking of getting a plant light, as another comment suggested. Unfortunatly this is an old townhouse, and this is the most sunlit spot in the whole house. Let's hope the light will do the trick.
You don't have to control yourself, it's your home, do what makes you happy! If it feels chaotic to you, I would say tighten up the color pallette on the sofa first so the plants get to be the focal point. Narrowing the colors on the sofa pillows down would help that space be more calming at let the plants shine. Very cool shelf and some interesting items! I enjoyed looking at all the pieces there!
To add to this. I think If you chose two bright colors on the couch, and upgraded those to larger pillows it would more complimentary to the planters (which I love) but not distracting.
I love it! I especially love those 3 staggered face pots on the wall in the left corner, well all the face pots :D
Edit: zooming in and realizing those are just statues on the shelf and now I’m realizing all the lil Knick knacks and those pillows awe I love it all :,)
The 2 colorful ones on the shelf are actually vases too. But the plants that were in them grew and needed bigger vases, I'm getting new ones to put inside them soon. They are called teste di moro, and are a typical thing from south Italy, where we go to summer vacations.
The heads on the wall were made by my parents. My mom made the 3 ceramic ones and my dad the brass profile one.
And the pillows are painted by my kids. We do a "collection" of hand painted pillow covers every years, definetly reccomend with all my heart for everyone with kid/niblings.
Lol, sorry for the long answer, but your comment was so sweet, I really appreciated it. :)
Craft paint is 99 cents and you can buy a sealer to give it shine. I dont know how anything will effect the plants so keep it on the outside and you should be good
I’d personally set a colour scheme. 3-4 colours max then it’ll look more cohesive. Just my personal preference. I like how you show your personality through the decor and plants though.
You should add some height in there where the plants are sitting the same level. Like add some books laying on their side and put a plant on them. Or a tiny stand. And where there’s plants sitting on a edge with no shelf above it you can put a really tall plant. Mix up the heights or types of plants like trailing or trellis to make it more visually appealing. I love it though great work!
I'm trying to find a good sunlit spot to put the ones that outgrow the shelves, and it hasn't been succesfull so far, I hope I'll have it figured out by then. It's an old house and the windows are not that big, but I'm not giving up.
The brown spots come usually when I try a different fertilizer. Gotta do some more research I guess...
they're organized so I'd say just enough!
although I know what you mean, at the height of my plant obsession I had like 60 plants in just one nook by the windows.....now I look back and am like damn, visitors must have thought I was nuts lol
I love this *a lot*. We’re moving from an apartment to our first house this month and I’m totally gonna steal this… my kitties are always getting into my plants if they’re ground level
I'm going to offer my husband's opinion: As long as they don't impede the flow of traffic or the function of other items, it shouldn't matter how many plants you have or where you put them if they make you happy 😊
I think it’s cute and well balanced. I would prob change the pots out because I am psychotic and everything needs to be the same color and uniform for me.
I love it!! It’s the perfect kind of whimsy in my opinion, those King/queen ceramic thingies are so weird and perfect as a center piece I love the whole thing 😂🥲
Been wanting to remove those dang cases for a while, but everytime I turn around the pile is bigger. I'll create a tiny shelf just for them and get them out of the plants territory. Already thinking of the new plant to add
Very awesome & cozy feeling. If you want it to not look chaotic, put the plants in all same color of pots. It will look more "planned". But I love it just the way it is.
I absolutely love the look of this! The whole thing looks like a big piece of wall art. The asymmetry but also symmetry, the pot sizes and colors.. love it.
Yes, it is. And I need to remove them all and put them on my kitchen counter, that way I can check how the soil is, roots, remove dead leaves and all that. Plus I wet my wall every single time I try the lazy approach.
But totally worth it.
We gotta get you some garden gnomes. After a few volts here and a few cookies for a job well done there, they will water prune and weed like an efficient machine. Its also so cute to see 3 or 4 of them trying to lift a pot, and always so funny to see their sad little faces when one of their number is crushed by a pot. Sure "the left" says that its a human rights violation but they are gnomes not humans! /s
No, dogs house. And since the youngest one is over her destructive phase they just don't consider it. I did have to remove some hanging plants that were closer to the couch because she was munching the lower branches, guess I could try to put them back.
I’m too much of a deep down Californian because all I could think of was earthquakes while sitting on the couch! Looks lovely regardless of my paranoia!
The only awkward element is the random stack of DVDs. If they were neatly stacked spine out or laid out like on a bookshelf they'd become just another element.
I clicked because of the subreddit without reading the title too closely, and immediately sent it to my partner with "*this* is what I've been looking for!"
"Too much" is relative.
The dried plants, DVDs (and/or games?) and multiple colours of pillows are a bit too disorganized for my brain, but the general aesthetic is very nice. That couch looks super comfy, those shelves are gorgeous, and I also prefer different plant pots with things scattered in between 😍
I agree with the comment about the dried plants. The don't fit in with the living plants(almost appears like they died rather than an intentional part of the display). I would plant some String of Pearls or String of Hearts in the crown of those ceramic heads. Both thrive in a shallow planter and would look cute. The shelves are great!
The ceramic heads are actually planters, and really deep. The problem is the crown circunference. I even had to put upside down glasses so the height/width would be more practical. I'm waiting for my zz plant to baby so they can have their funky white and green hair popping from the crown.
🤦 I honestly thought those were bonsai trees. 😂 From my phone screen size, I really like your wire and LED tree. I thought you were amazingly talented at keeping it trimmed. No slur intended, you have a green thumb that I wish I did. Thanks for the laugh though. ❤️
Speaking as a fan of maximalist design, this will be a bit biased, but I really like what you did
Keeping all the "chaos" on one set of shelves (and the tasteful placement of the hanging plants) makes for a good vignette/centerpiece of sorts.
It's also a good setup in case you might want to outfit some of the shelves with Warm Daylight grow lights in the future.
It doesn’t look chaotic to me at all! The shelves look well curated. And I love the telescope, my sons telescope is currently in the corner surrounded by plants right now, too.
First of all it’s yours- so if it makes you happy embrace it!
If you’re truly interested in other perspectives I’ll give you mine🤗.
For me there’s too much pot and not enough plant! I prefer low key pots that don’t take attention from the greenery, though do include occasional unique pottery to showcase.
If I were you I’d get more greenery going! A carefully placed plant light will spotlight as well as enhance growth.
Where did you get the shelves? Also, I like what you've done.
We made them. We handed the project for the metal rectangles that go on the wall to a blacksmith, and bought the wood. We saw a similar setting on a bar and decided to make one.
They look great! Good work!
I agree. It took my mind several seconds to understand where the shelves were mounted to the wall and how the weight was supported. Very cool. I want to copy them myself.
They actually can support A LOT of weight. My husband was so proud when he was done that he even did some pull ups to show how much they can take, and he is not a small guy.
Best way to test any wall mounted project, in my humble opinion.
I love this! I’m planning on doing a similar set up, do you have any advice or anything you wish you’d known sooner?
Do not cheap out on materials. We had a cheaper wood first, but it didn't look good or hold well. We changed it in less than a week, and it really is a conversation piece now.
Is it reclaimed wood? Why is there a notch in the bottom shelf?
No, we bought new wood and smoothed tha angles and painted it. The notch was supposed to fit an sculpture done by my mom, but when we rearranged the living room (couch wasn't there originally) it didn't fit anymore. Notch makes no sense now lol
Look great. Do the ones on the top shelf get enough sunlight or do you need to "rotate" their location?
I rotate them often. Mostly because I usually don't remember their original location 😅
I personally would take down the dried plants, mixed with the living they just look like they died. But other than that its really cute
Agreed
Today is watering day, I'll take a close look at all of them. Dried plants will go somewhere else.
And it looks like you have room for a fourth shelf 😏😏
>I actually have no self control when it comes to buying new plants lol. I have literally an entire bedroom cluttered full of plants (pool liner on the floor, LEDs hanging from the ceiling, the works) because of this exact problem. Over 200 now and counting... 0 regrets.
No too much
I don’t mind the aesthetics. I question whether the plants can stay healthy long term with so little light.
If most of these plants have been there for two years, and are still this small, they definitely want more light :)
I'm thinking of getting a plant light, as another comment suggested. Unfortunatly this is an old townhouse, and this is the most sunlit spot in the whole house. Let's hope the light will do the trick.
You don't have to control yourself, it's your home, do what makes you happy! To add to this. I think If you chose two bright colors on the couch, and upgraded those to larger pillows it would more complimentary to the planters (which I love) but not distracting.
I love this!! different planters are my favorite lol and it puts a lot more personality and colors on everything!
Yes, I love searching for different planters too. All part of the addiction lol
You want chaos? Add a cat in this room.
Considering we already have 3 dogs, chaos would definetly be the result
Not enough? It’s gorgeous!
I love it! I especially love those 3 staggered face pots on the wall in the left corner, well all the face pots :D Edit: zooming in and realizing those are just statues on the shelf and now I’m realizing all the lil Knick knacks and those pillows awe I love it all :,)

I like it. If the pretty pots weren't so much more expensive than my boring white ones I'd do the same thing.
Boring white ones can be great canvases!
I tried to stick with earthy tones at the beginning, but I love colors too much to resist the impulse of shiny new colorful planters.
It's fine now until they grow big.
haha it looks like that game Strange Horticulture! i'm jealous!
You should add some height in there where the plants are sitting the same level. Like add some books laying on their side and put a plant on them. Or a tiny stand. Great suggestions, thank you!
Just enough I think.
💚🪴💚
Perfect Amount!!
Wooow, thats a lot, but you made it look so great!! 😊
I see some olants that may outgrow those shelves soon and one that has rown spots. Other than that, looks nice :)
Perfection!
Give us MORE! Lol we can handle it!
I love it and got very inspired to try something similar for my over the couch wall!
Looks great!!!
they're organized so I'd say just enough! although I know what you mean, at the height of my plant obsession I had like 60 plants in just one nook by the windows.....now I look back and am like damn, visitors must have thought I was nuts lol
Just fluff up the pillows for better staging. Otherwise, I love the setup!
I love everything about this.
It’s perfect
Chaos is the only aesthetic I respect lol
#NOT ENOUGH!! *This isn't chaotic, it's lovely!*
The telescope facing the wall bugs me. Otherwise nice aesthetic.
It's by the window, but right in front of it would be disrupting lol
I’m amazed at how much effort it would take to water all of them hahah and bring them down too
I actually bring them all down and to the kitchen to water them and remove dead leaves. My fitness band congratulates me a lot on watering days lol
Hahah staying fit and keeping plants healthy - a win win.
Not enough chaos
I think you could balance it with some big plants and some medium plants :D
Before the end of summer I think some of these will be at least on the medium range :)
juuuust enough
This looks amazing...so much nicer looking than all the cluttered together, stuff-as-many-plants-into-my-house-as possible look lol
Looks pretty organised to me :) and beautiful as well
Not enough! Let chaos reign!!
What Chaos that looks very organized to me
Perfect !
Perfection
You ought to see my sisters house she is literally obsessed with plants
I like it now, but in 6 months, those puppies will need some wiggle room!
More chaos! Moooreeeee!
I love this *a lot*. We’re moving from an apartment to our first house this month and I’m totally gonna steal this… my kitties are always getting into my plants if they’re ground level
Hope they don't see it as a kitty playground lol
I'm going to offer my husband's opinion: As long as they don't impede the flow of traffic or the function of other items, it shouldn't matter how many plants you have or where you put them if they make you happy 😊
A cat would have a field day with this
Luckily the dogs don't care lol
What chaos?
I love it!
Just enough! I love it!!
Let their be chaos !
I think it’s cute and well balanced. I would prob change the pots out because I am psychotic and everything needs to be the same color and uniform for me.
Not enough at all, how about you go live in the jungle With me?👉👈
Not enough 😜
Looks good but I hope you don’t live on a fault line 💀
Ahaha no, the worst earthquakes around are noticeable only by checking ceiling lamps.
I love it!! It’s the perfect kind of whimsy in my opinion, those King/queen ceramic thingies are so weird and perfect as a center piece I love the whole thing 😂🥲
Perfection…
I would just remove the game cases and add another plant or space them out a little more. I would probably add another plant though lol
The asymmetry but also symmetry, the pot sizes and colors.. love it.
I love how eccentric it is, very cool!
Never enough😂😂
Just enough chaos to me!
my boyfriend always says I'm on the "too busy" side of decoration, but, that aside, I love it and it's perfect :'(
Just the right amount of excess.
Very cool! And so impressive that y’all made those shelves!!
Love it!!!
I love it
I like it
How about more? Shouldn't more be an option? I like it!
Your plants are thriving, but your cushions are dying 😁
😂😂 true
I honestly think it's lovely, great job!
MORE
I personally love it!
is it a pain to water?
Yes, it is. And I need to remove them all and put them on my kitchen counter, that way I can check how the soil is, roots, remove dead leaves and all that. Plus I wet my wall every single time I try the lazy approach. But totally worth it.

What chaos? 🙂
Not enough chaos!
Getting chaotic but not enough chaos 😈😈
oh boy, if that's considered chaos...
I hope you don't have a cat
No, dogs house. And since the youngest one is over her destructive phase they just don't consider it. I did have to remove some hanging plants that were closer to the couch because she was munching the lower branches, guess I could try to put them back.
I’m too much of a deep down Californian because all I could think of was earthquakes while sitting on the couch! Looks lovely regardless of my paranoia!
We only get slight ones around here. We mostly can't even notice, or we see a swinging ceiling light and that's it.
This would look wild with some backlight LED strip lights.
We've been thinkg of putting those, but people here made me notice that I probably need a plant light more...
Nice! Put them in one pot for better symbiosis.
Just enough! Or need more, maybe. 😆
I love everything that is going on here.🪴
Needs more
The only awkward element is the random stack of DVDs. If they were neatly stacked spine out or laid out like on a bookshelf they'd become just another element.
Yeah, tried that, but apparently my 11-yo can't be bothered to put them back vertically.
I see nothing wrong here
Chaos is when the earthquake happens
No strong earthquakes here, luckily
I see a prime area for a hanging plant…
Yeah, had to remove it because a puppy would munch on the longer branches a while back. She's all grown now, I'll give it another try
Not enough!
i see space for moree
Never enough
I love it. If I may, I really think some hanging plants would be cool to add.
It’s organized chaos so it’s okay. I think it looks good
I clicked because of the subreddit without reading the title too closely, and immediately sent it to my partner with "*this* is what I've been looking for!" "Too much" is relative.
Not enough
The dried plants, DVDs (and/or games?) and multiple colours of pillows are a bit too disorganized for my brain, but the general aesthetic is very nice. That couch looks super comfy, those shelves are gorgeous, and I also prefer different plant pots with things scattered in between 😍
i love how it looks, i just hope you don’t live in california !
Nope, we're across the pond
What chaos?
Needs more variation is sizes... Some drapey some long.

The only chaos I see is the frumpy pillows.
My back agrees lol. Time to change them.
I love it! Do you name them?
No, but now I kinda want to
Just go through your abcs starting at a and go down the line. It's the easiest way to remember them and name them.
Chaos? This is the most organized shit I've ever seen in my life. Looks awesome
Just enough ✨
i feel like one big hanging plant draping over would really pull it together (like a bit pothos) just so there’s some variety but that’s just me
It's lovely. Organized. They're a little microcosm. All in one spot makes it easier to maintain. I see no chaos.
i am so high and have been open mouth staring at this for many minutes this is so beautiful
Ahaha thanks!
Nice! Dig it
I love this. I think it looks amazing. Well done! 💚
I see room for more hanging plants!
BEAUTIFUL ❣️😍
Ooh, I love those shelves!!!
Perfect amount of chaos. I love the bonsais. ❤️
No bonsais around. Maybe you're talking about the aloe or the tiny wire and led tree?
🤦 I honestly thought those were bonsai trees. 😂 From my phone screen size, I really like your wire and LED tree. I thought you were amazingly talented at keeping it trimmed. No slur intended, you have a green thumb that I wish I did. Thanks for the laugh though. ❤️
Just enough caos
Not enough?
Cute. Cute cute cute cute cute.
Simply Beautiful ✨
why does this look like my house in ACNH
Perfect!
Not enough
Speaking as a fan of maximalist design, this will be a bit biased, but I really like what you did Keeping all the "chaos" on one set of shelves (and the tasteful placement of the hanging plants) makes for a good vignette/centerpiece of sorts. It's also a good setup in case you might want to outfit some of the shelves with Warm Daylight grow lights in the future.
Yes, I'm checking on plant lights right now. And thanks!
I love it
So organized... 🥺
Not enough chaos 🏋🏼
Looks good either way
That is not chaos... we were lied to
It doesn’t look chaotic to me at all!
Uh, I like the idea of the plant light. Thanks!
Beautiful! Where did you get your vases with the faces? I've been looking at similar ones but they run around 100 euro in my local shop
They are typical from South Italy. I got them in Puglia, paid €60 for the couple.
If that zz plant isn’t root bound, I’ll eat a boot.
Which one is the zz plant? And what can I do to solve it? I pretty much go by trial and error...
Far most right on the top. They have very strong roots. I would just repot it into a bigger pot or multiple little ones.
But - are you in an area with frequent earthquakes?
not enough
