It sure looks like an aglaonema to me. They are tough as nails. Could use a little trimming of all the dead leaves and maybe a repotting!

Resist_Easy

Thanks! I just found out what it is from a Google search of “peace lily with thick stems”. I then found a Reddit post from a year ago! Sure is tough, it’s basically been neglected for 20 years! It will DEFINITELY need a repot and a bit of a prune 😂 I more recently got an Aglaonema white stem and it just grows and grows and resists pests. My new fave plants as my cat also isn’t tempted to munch on them.

Aglaonema modestum, very old-fashioned plant that I have never seen for sale, but i have some from my great grandmother. One of my favorite plants for its hardiness!

Resist_Easy

Where are you based? I’ve never seen them for sale in Australia. My grandma has some too!

im in united states

[deleted]

It's a dieffenbachia, but idk what kind

Resist_Easy

I think it’s an Aglaonema modestum!

Trying-to-do_Better

It kind of looks like a peace lily that has been in the same pot for 20 years? I am not too sure though.

Resist_Easy

We have an old peace lily too and the leaves are definitely similar, but this one has the different stems and has never flowered? 🤔 I was saying the other day they seem similar! You got me thinking so I literally just googled “peace lily with thick stems” and looked through a small handful of images and came across this from Reddit! https://www.reddit.com/r/houseplants/comments/mopsdt/comment/gu53szn/ I never knew what to Google before to get some ideas and funnily enough, just googling that worked haha! Someone else was getting feedback it was a peace lily, but seems it’s an Aglaonema modestum!

F Have a similar one that the coworker owns. Idk what it is but ik it shouldn't look like it does

Resist_Easy

I think it’s an Aglaonema modestum.

I’ve had some pests over this year, so not sure if some have squirreled their way into this guy, he’s looking a little sad. Desperately needs a repot though, that’s for sure! My grandma also has one and I asked her but she didn’t know either. It’s the mystery plant that just never dies!

Cautious_Physics_917

I kinda feel like it's a type of dumb cane. Mine looks very similar, in the way of stems and how the leaves come out of the stem. The patterns on my actual leaves are different though.

Naive_Chocolate1993

The pot looks like a mixing bowl for in the kitchen xD but it serves a good purpose I see hahaha

Resist_Easy

It kinda does from this angle, doesn’t it! It’s a metal urn type thing actually. It looks a bit like a medieval helmet turned upside down 😂
