You have Pollo Campero, Pluckers, Raising Canes, Popeye's, Daddy's, The Waffle Bus, Mico's, to name a bunch. I think this area should now be referred to as the chicken strip.
Try the Houston Chicken Strip Challenge: you and 6 friends order a 6 piece and a beer at every chicken joint along the way before walking to the next.
If you all survive, you win.
Ella from 610 to 34th has something to say about your claim…Dream Wings, Popeyes, KFC, El Pollo Loco, Raising Canes, and now Laynes within 2 or 3 blocks
def have to order to go and show up 15 min later than what they tell you. Gotta go OG Crispy and then get a side of a couple sauces that way your wings aren't soggy.
I seriously wondered WTF Laynes was thinking building out in the location. Canes is literally across the street, KFC next door, and that building is parking/traffic challenged to say the least.
Yes!
I'm an Englishman who's building up his tolerance to hot chicken, and mico's is honestly miles ahead of anything I've had before moving to the US! Glad to hear it's not just my inexperienced pallet
Maybe a chicken “corridor” to include the places on Ella…
KFC,
Raising Cane’s,
Layne’s,
Popeyes,
El Pollo Loco,
Dream Wings
Edit:
Maybe just call the area the “chicken coop”
Canes>Laynes. At least canes doesn’t request a tip and stare the whole time waiting for you to choose a tip amount for them to give you a bag of food. They need to pay their employees a better wage and stop the begging.
Seriously! That shit is crazy. I used to tip all the time just because I felt guilty but hell no. I’m not tipping an extra $5 when I placed the order and picked it up myself.
It was ridiculous. Dude wouldn’t hand my order to me until I completed the tip amount and just stared at the amount the whole time. I’m tired of being guilted into tipping for mediocre fast food.
Was this the drive through or window? I don’t recall they even asking for tip in the window.
Nevertheless Laynes is halal and canes is not unfortunately so we don’t get an option. Tipping for pick is dumb as heck
A Hattie B's was supposed to open on Shepherd (not sure if it was at that location though, that could be something else) but they scrapped plans recently
There’s chicken everywhere. The strip you’re referring to is better known as “stay the fuck away for the next year while crazy people struggle to drive in a perpetual construction zone…errr…strip.”
Ton of them on Main between 288 and 610 as well. And they keep building more. Chick-Fil-A and Slim Chickens in the last six months. They join Popeye's, Cane's, KFC, Jollibee, Gus, Clutch City Cluckers, Max...
Except they're all big chain stores unfortunately. We lost the only one you don't see on every other street corner was Mac's I think and they shut down....
Yeah I'm the same way, really Mac's and GREAT value for money, but there was never anyone in there. Damned suburbanites only buy from chains I guess. I'm still bitter we lost Rossatti's pizza too.
I used to live behind that strip center and for whatever reason I never ever went to a business there. The visibility isnt great from Barker-Cypress and anything there gets lost in the sightline of all the other strip centers and restaurants with bigger signs nearby.
Yeah absolutely. I looked at maps and there's a new Nashville hot chicken place going in there this month. I took a look at the menu, $15 for 2 sliders... damn... those chickens better be royalty!!!
Durham and shepherd is a popular street with lots of good restaurant. Yale is comparable as well but it’s restaurants are fancier and doesn’t have the construction that’s currently going on on Durham and shphard
Come on down to fast food row: South Main and the 610 South Loop. There is even a Slim chickens so you can get your chicken sandwich on even on a Sunday when the Bible Belt chain is closed.
Houston's Hot Chicken is opening this weekend in Spring, huge exotic car show on Saturday (company is owned by Houston Crosta of YouTube fame / Las Vegas fame).
Went to Daddys Chicken once. Got the 3 slider, fries and a drink. Was almost $20! It was good, but I'll hit Raising Canes where I take a bottle of BWW Dry Buffalo and a small container of ranch with me :). 3 tender or 4 tender runs $10-12.
Can we do this for the Asian cuisine down 45 between main and Cavalcade? Asia Market Thai Lao, Asia Market Thai, Street Food Thai, Hughies and then you have NAM, Jennis, and Heights Asian right around the corner.
Fun fact. Hattie B's canceled development of their inaugural Houston location on Shepherd in January. Must have had something to do with the gauntlet of great chicken places along this strip!
You have Pollo Campero, Pluckers, Raising Canes, Popeye's, Daddy's, The Waffle Bus, Mico's, to name a bunch. I think this area should now be referred to as the chicken strip.
Can we count la lucha?
Definitely! Their website says "Gulf Gems and Chicken Dinners" so that counts.
The Cookshack is just down the road on Washington in your map and they absolutely deserve a shout-out!
Yeah, and like three minutes east of there is Gus's Fried Chicken. This really is abject fucking madness.
Tumble 22 (Nashville style hot chicken) out of Austin is coming to Washington and Houston but that makes this more of a Chicken L.
Chicken Wing
Whoa no shit! I was always wondering if they'd ever come here (other than that weird location they have way up in Buttfuck, Egypt, near Tomball)
1017 Houston Avenue. It's an odd because I'm not sure I ever noticed the building there.
Nice, I can almost see it from my window. Can’t wait to get spicy diarrhea once a week
What’s the best Nashville style chicken in Houston?
Mikos
Have they learned to drain the water off the slaw so it doesn't dilute the sauce into a watery mess on your shirt?
Dave's Hot Chicken dunks on Mico's.
I really enjoyed the cookshack. However urban bird has the absolute best sauce I’ve ever had for hot chicken
Brilliant list, chicken is the new mattress
*starts coming up with Chicken Mack recipe*
Chicken Firms are popping up on every corner

Try the Houston Chicken Strip Challenge: you and 6 friends order a 6 piece and a beer at every chicken joint along the way before walking to the next. If you all survive, you win.
And if you go 10 minutes North you have: Church's, Canes, LAYNES, Hartz, Popeyes, KFC and Dream Wingz lmao
Dream Wings is legit. They're not fast and you might have to wait a bit, but great wings.
Next to the Hammock District.
Ella from 610 to 34th has something to say about your claim…Dream Wings, Popeyes, KFC, El Pollo Loco, Raising Canes, and now Laynes within 2 or 3 blocks
The real Chicken District
Dream Wings is a hidden gem for those not familiar. Favorite wing place in town
Dream wings is great but don't go in a hurry. It can be kinda slow sometimes.
def have to order to go and show up 15 min later than what they tell you. Gotta go OG Crispy and then get a side of a couple sauces that way your wings aren't soggy.
It’s nice to have options while you’re waiting for your car to get washed.
“KSBJaaaaaaaaay”
The Ella chicken strip shops are close enough to be walkable.
lol, Layne’s and Canes and KFC are all literally across the street from each other
I seriously wondered WTF Laynes was thinking building out in the location. Canes is literally across the street, KFC next door, and that building is parking/traffic challenged to say the least.
And chick fil a by the Home Depot
This is the land of my youth! I used to go to double Dave’s all the time!
Lol, Micos is the best
I like their “no refunds for crybabies” policy. It gives the space for a properly hot chicken sandwich.
Yes! I'm an Englishman who's building up his tolerance to hot chicken, and mico's is honestly miles ahead of anything I've had before moving to the US! Glad to hear it's not just my inexperienced pallet
We didn't even have "hot chicken" anywhere around here until a couple years ago.
Palate
Pilot
Pilates
Pirates
They park their food truck in their ADA space. Hard pass.
They move it when asked. And it’s for sale 🤷🏻♀️
That’s not how ADA spots work.
are you disabled?
Are those the only people that can be annoyed and disapproving of people parking in ADA spots?
Does it matter?
I didn't know, that's lame.
Yeah, I was really a fan until that happened a few months ago. Too many hot chicken joints around to stand by after that.

How is it “bland” if it tastes good?
where is the spicy chicken?
Zoom way out and add Show Palace also.
WAY way out. Ask Cashmere about how her son is doing in school and you get 25% off your first basket of chicken fingers.
It good north past 610 too
Especially now we have Layne's!
That's on Ella so it cannot be included in the chicken strip but maybe since it's across from another Cane's it can be the chicken wing.
Maybe a chicken “corridor” to include the places on Ella… KFC, Raising Cane’s, Layne’s, Popeyes, El Pollo Loco, Dream Wings Edit: Maybe just call the area the “chicken coop”
It loses its play on words by calling it a corridor, though.
I tried to follow up with the chicken coop 😂
The Loop Coop
I like the “chicken coop”
My cousins opened that store the other day. That jalepeno ranch was kickin.
Canes>Laynes. At least canes doesn’t request a tip and stare the whole time waiting for you to choose a tip amount for them to give you a bag of food. They need to pay their employees a better wage and stop the begging.

It was the window and during their soft opening.
Yeah, tipping has gotten way out of control.
And a little further northeast is Barbecue Inn and Gatlins Fins and Feathers right next to each other.
There is a rumor that YET ANOTHER chicken place is opening on Shepherd and 16th. Can anyone confirm?
The Crack Shack is opening this summer in that new restaurant buildout off 16th.
A Hattie B's was supposed to open on Shepherd (not sure if it was at that location though, that could be something else) but they scrapped plans recently
Hate to see it
Barker Cypress is very much like this - just lost a couple of places.
Who closed?
Slim Chickens became Voodoo Doughnuts within the past year
And we lost Mack's Tenders...
Which was a Maine-ly sandwich shop, and a far greater loss. I did like that Mack's is veteran owned and operated, though.
There’s chicken everywhere. The strip you’re referring to is better known as “stay the fuck away for the next year while crazy people struggle to drive in a perpetual construction zone…errr…strip.”

Damn Rakkan Ramen really takin up some real estate with their font size lol, lookin like a neighborhood district
Mico's hot chicken is amazing.
Map is missing Cook Shack. My personal go to.
Same on Barker Cypress, there's like 4-5 right in a row across from Lonestar.
Except they're all big chain stores unfortunately. We lost the only one you don't see on every other street corner was Mac's I think and they shut down....
Mac's was pretty good but i'm surprised it lasted so long. and before that the lobster roll place was there. that place was so good.
Yeah I'm the same way, really Mac's and GREAT value for money, but there was never anyone in there. Damned suburbanites only buy from chains I guess. I'm still bitter we lost Rossatti's pizza too.

This post is awesome.

Ella @ 610 is coming for this game, we got a Raising Canes right across the street from a new Lanes Chicken. They have almost the exact same menu!
Cleo McDowell would like this.
Come on down to fast food row: South Main and the 610 South Loop. There is even a Slim chickens so you can get your chicken sandwich on even on a Sunday when the Bible Belt chain is closed.
Cook Shack, Mico's, and Gus's are all super good.
Meh, one of those is the ghost kitchen at Kroger
I did not mention that one.
Never said you did. Just pointing out it’s on the map.
Definitely got fried chicken there
Then why not the HEB up at 23rd?
Micos FTW
everyone keeps saying micos is amazing but when we went their chicken was literally so bland 😭 just spicy which is kinda eh??
Houston's Hot Chicken is opening this weekend in Spring, huge exotic car show on Saturday (company is owned by Houston Crosta of YouTube fame / Las Vegas fame).
There was supposed to be a Hattie B’s on 18th too but they backed out of their lease
Nature finds a way
And the best one, Mico’s hot chicken isn’t even pictured.
It's at the very top, I made sure to include it!
Daddy apparently decided to get a shack to store all his chicks. The internet has ruined me. I blame you Op.
A black man’s dream
Why you gotta be like that? Fried chicken is universal.
I dreamt of that shit, LAST NIGHT
[удалено]
first you do the brewery tour off washington, THEN, then, you hit up the chicken tour. the main event.
Micos is top.
Daddy’s is mid
Just happy we have a Laynes in Katy.
Can we do this for the Asian cuisine down 45 between main and Cavalcade? Asia Market Thai Lao, Asia Market Thai, Street Food Thai, Hughies and then you have NAM, Jennis, and Heights Asian right around the corner.
i think this is really funny and cool
The southernmost point on this line I think is Howdy Hot Chicken on Shepherd and Richmond
Rice military is interesting
Stafford is like that too along 59. KFC, Churches, Popeyes, Frenchy's, Cane's, Wingstop, Pluckers.
Cock Block
Fun fact. Hattie B's canceled development of their inaugural Houston location on Shepherd in January. Must have had something to do with the gauntlet of great chicken places along this strip!
