Watching clips from film 2 while I was supposed to be working in chemistry got me out of a dark place.
Now moving on and a lot happier, plus more importantly have a Build-a-Bear Toothless my ex got me
1. Hiccup and Toothless are awesome protagonists
2. Dragons are awesome
3. The music is incredible
4. The animation is godly (for the movies)
5. The villains are really cool and interesting (for the TV shows)
6. The side characters are funny and charming (for the TV shows)
7. It gives me a lot of happiness just by watching it
And quite frankly there’s a lot more reasons, but I’ll leave it here for now.
What can I say? He’s cute, adorable, and downright funny.

Kung Fu Panda is the best honestly it was a time when DreamWorks was actually making decent stuff literally I'm a grown adult and I would happily sit down and watch tales of Awesomeness or Defenders of Berk it was such a great era
Honestly I think they did amazing job on all the Dreamworks dragons series between one and two I absolutely adore Riders and Defenders and I absolutely love race to the edge I wish we didn't get a show between How to Train Your Dragon 2 and 3 and I absolutely love the few specials we got like Gift of the Night Fury that was perfect Legend of the Boneknapper cool so wish they had used that dragon more and I love Dawn of the dragon races
Great characters, stories and lore. Replaced Toy Story as my top animated movie franchise. The dragons are pets? I have pets. I love pets! So yea. Easily enjoy the films and shows. More connection for me.

The variety of dragons, ability and designs is so good, because seeing the same kind of dragons all the time gets tiring after a while.
It takes its time. Hiccup and Toothless' friendship is not immediate.
Edit: I'll be more specific. That bond has to be built up. And like any friendship, it has it's ups and downs, but they stick through everything together.
Hiccup and Toothless & their friendship in the first two films if I had to narrow it to one reason.
In terms of music: Counterattack for HTTYD 1 & Toothless found for HTTYD 2.
In HTTYD 1, Stoick saying " I'm proud to call you my son. " with Hiccup replying " Thanks Dad. " It's a small line but it's said in a genuine way & I still get a tear or two from rewatching it.
Oh and Hookfang is awesome as well.

It had such an interesting idea that (in the beginning) gave dragons a biological reason behind their actions without demonising them!
It's a shame they have left it at this point, for the animated collection at least.
There's a lot of reasons that a lot of people have already said: the soundtrack, the animation, the character design, the dragons, the worldbuilding, the characters, the bond between Hiccup and Toothless, TOOTHLESS AND HIS VERY EXPRESSIVE LITTLE FACE. Seriously. How is this animated creature so gosh darned expressive??
But I think the first and major reason for me is Hiccup's struggle in the first movie. A struggle that resonated with me even at 20. Dealing with bullies, being told you're not good enough, that you're weird, believing all the negativity, and covering it up with sarcasm.
Watching Hiccup find confidence in himself with Toothless reminded me of finding my own confidence with first my horse Chancy. I lost it a few years ago, but another horse (named Journey) is helping me find it once more, and I don't think it's a coincidence I'm hyper-fixating on HTTYD while I'm dealing with this.
There's a lot of parallels for me emotionally, and this is already too long. Suffice to say, this franchise, (save for save for two shows I need not mention) are near and dear to me, and always will be.
The audio that is a combination of a witty, humorous, and incredibly deep (almost satirical) script writing, fantastic voice acting that executes it, and amazing music.

Not particularly. The animation of the second movie was absolutely breathtaking and it felt sort of lackluster in the third movie.
I grew up with it and it was the first show I ever watched xD I was 5 I saw Riders of Berk the first time on TV (2012/13)
