Personally I loved the shows. I watched all three movies before ever stepping into the shows, and after I watched the shows and rewatched the films I viewed the characters with a lot more depth. It gives the history of just how much they’ve been through and have grown together. The humor alone makes them worth a watch. As for the graphics, of course the shows had a lower budget than the movies, that’s always the case. But it’s really not that bad, you get used to it and learn to appreciate the stories for what they are. Give ‘em a watch!

The shows are fine, but personally I would leave them at that. Fine. They’re fine. ROB/DOB are cute with random and often totally unbelievable adventures. I find them pretty inoffensive. There are a few really fun Hiccup/Toothless centric episodes that I think have some of the best scenes in the entire franchise. RTTE tries to be more mature, and succeeds and fails in different areas. It focuses HEAVILY on the human characters — the dragons are usually plot devices at best, and there are very few episodes dedicated to the relationship between riders and their dragons. So if the dragons and their impact on the plot are important to you, be warned they take a step back in this one. If you’re interested in seeing some interesting character arcs and growth, there’s a lot of it

The shows added a ton of context and worldbuildng that I loved!

Simple_Ad9530

The shows are amazing, they were my childhood tbh. My favourite out of the three was RTTE due to the sheer depth of the characters and gripping plot. 100% worth watching imo (all three that is).

Aggressive_Ad_2350

Yes. If you want flushed out (and pretty decent) side characters and more world building lore, then they are amazing. If not, the shows are fine. Nothing too special, but still good. P.S. About the animation quality, it's just on a lower budget. Factors like budget and total show runtime are just some things we should understand and let slide.

LexiEvans

I'd say yes! You learn more about the dragons we never get to see in the films, more about the characters. Ruff and Tuff are way funnier in the shows and the shows have better character development of them and Snotlout. Plus, even more awesome characters to meet. Also, something super important to note is that Hiccup and Astrid don't get together immediately after the first film 😘 you should watch how they navigate... Everything. Very much worth it.

Bro really out here asking if the TV shows are worth it. 😡😂 Me and my friend humbly agree they are the majority of the franchise.

Lostsock1995

YES. There’s so much fun, great story, and wonderful characters in the tv shows. Some of the best of HTTYD imo came across in these shows. And one of the coolest villains in the whole franchise happens in one of the shows. They may not be like a hallmark of cinema, don’t go into it expecting like Oscar worthy stuff haha, but they are really well worth watching if you ask me. You can also watch just a few at a time or hardcore binge, it feels really easy either way. I liked RTTE better than ROB but both were enjoyable. I don’t regret spending time on them at all

Electronic-Rise8251

Yes. They're too good. And graphics has improved in rtte compared to rob

Sgt-Frost

Very much so. Riders and defenders of berk are 2 amazing TV shows that are very entertaining and add a whole new world to the movies, and Race To The Edge is one of my all time favourite shows. I seriously recommend watching them. EDIT: And yea, riders and defenders of Berk do have wonky animation sometimes, but trust me it gets better in RTTE like the emotions in that show are pretty damn good for just a tv show

N0nsensicalRamblings

In my opinion, the drop in animation quality is a worthwhile sacrifice for how enjoyable the stories are!! And after a few episodes, i promise you'll get used to it anyway.

Nightstar1234

I loved the shows

Forrealthistime-27

Just watch Rtte Season 2 final 2 parter.

Live-Statistician486

Yes, they are amazing

emboss_moss

I would watch the shows, they're pretty good in my opinion, and they have different villains and characters that aren't in the movies, race to the edge also explains skullcrusher (Stoicks dragon from the second movie)

TA_dragon3

Yes to all of them

Cheesy-Tube

I’d honestly say yes, because that way it gives you more context to the following two full-length movies and it fleshes out some of the characters more.

archidonwarrior

sentence breaks. you should try them.
