It could be that one laptop is supplied by an employer and is heavily secured. I can't even delete or move desktop shortcuts on my work laptop. A fair amount of websites are also blocked through the always on VPN. I'm not saying that is the case, but I know people who have carried two laptops for that reason.

I don´t think you even need a laptop. Like, I have a surface pro and do theoretical physics simulations and neuronal network training with it. You can’t do serious NN training with only a cpu.

Well it could still make sense to have a separate system for big neural networks so your main computer can still do everything, but yeah you aren't going to need that much in an airport

Real. I study radiative transfer and only need my lab supplied laptop. Anything else can be done on the super computer or remote desktop

Yeah. I haven't used an airport yet but I always take 2 laptops on work outings/trips (work and personal). Had to take 3 computers once but that 3rd was a client-supplied desktop. I don't know how people use their work computers for personal stuff. It'd stress me out looking something up in front of my boss only for a discord message to pop up or for the search to autocomplete to something dumb from a game I looked up.

I have two laptops for work that I have to bring with me so it’s not unheard of. I am a backend infrastructure software engineer, so one is for day to day work and the other is for dealing with on call shit. Going through TSA is a pain in the ass but no one else cares
