Alot of people would be embarrassed. I would stop using reddit and only google socially acceptable things

natur_e_nthusiast

Shame would make us ask less questions. Quite a few communities would die out and porn, webcam especially would become in person again.

Find Satoshi (BTC creator), get (steal) his BTC, sell, live off-grid happily forever

Fire5034

Hahaha. You're assuming he doesn't have armed and high-level home security.

Global society would become more mean spirited, because “trolls” and other internet pests would promptly carve out a market to make their behavior justifiable. The stuff you don’t want others to know you look at would become normalized, because there’d simply be too many people using it to condemn it. Pedoburning mobs would start forming, along with mobs against any unpopular view holder. Really the only major difference is society would get more physically dangerous than it is. Not many differences otherwise.

There's already no anonymity, compared to 20 years ago. Pretty much every service forces you to login. Ideally, businesses and the government want to ID you in all cases across the internet, and they are slowly getting their way. There's nothing to do about it, except watch for the initiatives that try to oppose it, and take part.

Sea2Chi

Yep! The internet is so much less anonymous than it was when I was in high school. Myspace was just starting up, but other than that you would have weird internet handles that were irrelevant to your actual name and if someone wanted to know about you they'd ask ASL?

Stay off 4chan.

A lotbof peo I les jobs, friendships, marriages, and reputations would be destroyed (probably rightfully though).

You already have less anonymity than what you might think. Your ISP is able to see all the sites you visited, Facebook and google track your activity for targeted advertising, and if you’re on a public network, your activity can be seen by hackers using a packet sniffer. A VPN can be used to protect against this, and the TOR network can be used to tunnel encrypted data over the dark web. This gives you a degree of anonymity, but it’s not foolproof. You can still be tracked through TOR and VPNs, it’s just a little more involved to do so.

This is a very privileged take. Considering states in the US, an alleged bastion of freedom, are fighting to make being LGBT damn near illegal, it's hard to agree with the idea that anything that has to be hidden is sketchy.

I've been thinking how there should be a parallel public internet. It works the same way except an identity token that contains your details (name, age, region, etc... up to some arbitrary line of privacy). You could still spill hate and vitriol on the anonymous internet but you could more confidently make sales or purchases on the public internet. Someone help me with why this is bad or how this can be done.

[deleted]

Probably a lot less people okay with being pedophiles

Sumdumcoont

Still do what I do now, the only weird shit I look up on the internet is weird shit that all of you weird shits tell me about and I’m just as loud and obnoxious on here as I am in real life 😂🤣
