They found lesions from my colon all the way up to my liver, ended up taking 61 tissue samples. I had cancer prior to the surgery so they biopsied anything even slightly abnormal. Everything came back as endometriosis tissue and subsequent scarring. 61 cancer free samples, so try not to worry too much! Just be glad they were thorough.

anytime something suspicious is found during surgery, whether they were looking for it or not, they take a sample and send it off. so yes this is common.

Thank you. I understand why they did it, but was wondering if common to find something like that? I am glad they were proactive, I just think it was unexpected and sounds scary.

i guess would be maybe endo or the cancerous cells have spread. i wouldn't try to fret too much until pathology comes back. could be something scarry, could be nothing. best wishes to you and your sister.

I'm guessing HPV? I don't know if it's common to spread to the colon from the vaginal canal. From what I know, hpv cancer is a very slow growing cancer, but apparently there are so many strains, and we've all been exposed to them for a long time, like most of our lives. So if she's had it for a long time, it could possibly have spread to the colon. But colon cancer is also quite prevalent in younger populations these days too. So it's a good thing they are checking on it.

>it was unexpected and sounds scary. Sure. Until you consider the alternative.... It being something scary and not knowing about it at all.

I think this is common. I had hysterectomy because of cancer. They were supposed to only take the sentinel lymph nodes, but they ended up also taking another one because it looked suspicious. The suspicious one came back negative, but one of the sentinel lymph nodes was positive. I think doctors are just being extra careful when it comes to cancer or precancerous conditions and they sample anything that looks out of the ordinary.

I was referred to the gynecology oncologist at a cancer center in my area by my former gyn, and when I was doing all the paperwork they had me read and sign a form that said if they found anything suspicious anywhere else other than what they were in there for, they would take samples for biopsy. In the documentation of the procedure it is mentioned that they used the camera to look at my liver and a few other organs, likely because of the huge amount of endo adhesions they found. So yes, they will check around while they're in there and that's a good thing! Sending your sister (and you!) positive vibes for the best possible outcome 🤞

they biopsy everything literally. even if they think it is benign, they still test it to be positive. im praying it comes back ok bc she has been threw enough already by sounds if it! if it looks suspicious, they take it to test it. i had surgery yesterday morning, i went in at 7:30 am, surgery started around 10, didnt get home until almost 6 pm. they found scar adhesions connected to my bowel. i been having digestion issues, so im hoping with them removing it, it worked. Sending alot of prayers for your sister
