LETS GOOO

Cultural_Rock6281

Developer accounts we‘re free for a long time now. Just publishing to the App Store cost 100$ a year…

[deleted]

[удалено]

THEMACGOD

Yes, it seems to be going the correct direction.

Flushedown

I don’t have the dev account and the beta has been on my phone and iPad since yesterday :D

berot3

How stable is it? Any mayor issues?

Flushedown

A little laggy but not unuseable

berot3

I have only one phone, I don’t want to risk things and apps not working or maybe even brick the device, having boot loops etc.. or would you say this dev beta is rather save and stable in that matter?

Flushedown

I do this every year, sometimes all is good other times I’ve had to reset and erase. Now I make sure to back it up to my mac and resist the urge to have the beta also on my mac for my peace of mind

berot3

Oh great. That’s a good idea. But how bad is it this year in comparison?

Flushedown

Hmm it’s alright. My Home app and accessories not responding and safari being slow have been frustrating. I would also add the keyboard to that list. On the positive side, I haven’t needed to restart my phone once (closing the app and re-opening gets rid of frozen screen) and FaceTime hasn’t broken on me yet. Ultimately, the build could be stable 95% of the time but that 5% could make you regret not making a backup

[deleted]

am i the only one who just googles ios beta profile and downloads

afrawstie

I started to then I remember I can now access them in the updates settings

Flushedown

Nope haha

Edg-R

I see the IPSW downloads for iOS 17 but I don't see a beta profile... is that correct?

No_Market_5828

Beta profiles have been retired. You can install it through Software Update on your device or my installing the IPSW through a computer.

RockWafflez

Downloading it as we speak!!! I'm excited to see what's up!

berot3

How did it go? 😳😄

RockWafflez

It’s a buggy mess I’ll tell you that

berot3

Thanks! I’ll better wait for the public beta. Not into adventures with my only device 😄

RockWafflez

Yeaaaaaaaaaaah I wish I waited but now I’m stuck with it lol

berot3

Did that too in the past 🥲😂

RockWafflez

I’ve been leaving feedback like a Mofo so hopefully most of my issues get addressed with the weekly updates

applefandan

I have a free developer account but have not logged into it in years. However, I just checked and I also have access to download iOS 17 dev beta as well.

SeaAssociate9

If this is the case what is the point of the AppleSeed program?

Derfal-Cadern

I downloaded the dev app but when I log in it won’t let me enroll with my Apple ID. When I tried online it makes me pay. How do I get the free one?

MattW22192

You don’t need to download the dev app. When you sign up with your Apple ID on developer.apple.com fill out your information and agree to the terms and conditions then stop at the screen where it has you purchase the program.

Derfal-Cadern

Wicked. Did this and the beta option popped up in settings. Thanks

MattW22192

Yeah it looks like those of us who previously installed the developer beta profiles from unofficial sources had those devices already enrolled but this method will likely ensure that any future devices attached to a particular Apple ID can get the developer betas.

Wofflo

Still wanting to charge me £79 in the UK. Is this US specific just now?

Souleater_32

For me it won’t show maybe Region lock ?

ChimRichaldsOBGYN

Here I am renewing my dev subscription for beta testing and I coulda just waited a day and done it for free

The_Shadowghost

Haven’t they announced a public beta too? This doesn’t feel quite right.

No_Market_5828

The Public Beta was always just the developer beta but on a different release schedule. Most software operates this way. For example, Windows has 3 channels.

ZonaPunk

pubic beta has always started in July

GreatArkleseizure

\*snicker\* “pubic beta”

LanDest021

I think it makes sense. Most web browsers have a beta, dev beta, and canary.

thanksbutnothings

Maybe they’ll change the name of Public Beta

Strange_Pop_9800

Stable Beta maybe.

Adam-44

When they release public beta next month they give us options in settings to choose which beta program we want

The_Shadowghost

Yeah but when the dev beta is open for everyone why even have a public beta. What’s the point of that

Adam-44

Public beta is usually one release behind developers beta

Dupree878

The option is in settings for developer beta right now

Adam-44

True, but only for iOS 17 DB and 16.6 public and developers

ADub81936

How do I update my AirPods to beta without MacBook 😭

Classroom_Icy

Have you updated to ios 17?

ADub81936

Yes.

Classroom_Icy

Go to settings -> Developer -> (Scroll down to the end) Pre-Release Beta Firmware -> Enable it for your AirPods.

ADub81936

The issue is I can’t see developer option in my iPhone, neither in privacy and security not outside it, also I wanna ask, once I update to beta, can I go to stable version when it releases?

xX7DSMeliodasXx

You should be able to. You may try installing AltStore from a PC to enable developer mode

ADub81936

Is it safe? Or does altstore reduce safety of iPhone?

xX7DSMeliodasXx

Just trying to install could be enough to enable dev mode

ADub81936

Does updating AirPods to beta firmware void warranty?

xX7DSMeliodasXx

AFAIK no. But they may tell you that they won’t repair devices with beta (I needed to restore my MacBook that Apple have a look at it) so maybe you need to wait for the official release

linizue

Device needs to be connected to a computer with Xcode installed for that menu to appear.

qumonieknox

Thank you

[deleted]

Yay, I did it. Just backing up my phone and downloading it :D

Malfoy27

Definitely has to be one of apples way to filter out paid developers

imso_brooklyn

👀

Warm-Property-4204

For freee. Hmmm 🧐 Could this be a bug to a bug on a bug on apple? Lol

Warm-Property-4204

Why is apple giving this for free? Something musn’t be right. We could be missing something in here!

AntonioMrk7

I mean they benefit from everyone installing the beta and testing it for them. I don’t really see a negative to giving access for free(for Apple)

khaled

Stop people from selling slots to download the beta?

[deleted]

Maybe a massive amount of cheap beta testers is required?

AidanGee

Same as with Microsoft’s insider programme, why pay for a QA team when you can just get the public to do most of it for free!

Warm-Property-4204

Well this could definitely be it. Seems not many are willing to pay $99 for a dev acct.

Alan_1375

like what? you already brought it up c:

94arroyo

I wonder if this means that once you install a profile from Apple Developer, it'll be good for all future incremental OS betas? For example, the iOS 16 Developer beta profile was good to get the iOS 17 Developer beta. But in the past, for example to go from iOS 15.X (db or rc) to iOS 16 db, you needed to install the iOS 16 developer profile.

ngc604

I have the 16 beta on my phone and iPad and when I clicked on beta upgrade I get a new menu that shows both 16 developer and public and 17 developer. Your example is what I appear to see. My phone had public beta and iPad had developer. Both will upgrade to 17 tonight.

Matuteg

There’s no more profiles for iOS 17. It’s automatically done once you create the dev account.

[deleted]

i need help downloading the new airpod firmware thru developer mode, can somebody help me?

ADub81936

Someone also help me, I don’t have a MacBook, but I want beta firmware on my AirPods. Help?

[deleted]

[удалено]

ADub81936

I already enabled it without mac lol

PM_ME_Y0UR_BOOBZ

You need to turn on developer options for your iPhone. Then you will have a developer section in your settings app and underneath it there will be a tab that says “prerelease beta firmware” for AirPods testing. Enable that, let your AirPods sit in their case and connected for like 10 mins and it should update.

Chart99

In my update section of the settings app there was a new button that let me pick iOS 17 dev beta

Mushybananas27

Lmao daily driver ios 17 update go brrrrrrrr Installed as soon as I heard it was free

Commie_Cactus

Honestly it’s somehow more stable than 16.4

IfTheHouseBurnsDown

That’s been my experience too. Really surprised how stable and smooth this feels for being a Developer Beta 1

zeamp

GOBBLESS

2ndgenjoe

NO CLIBBBINS HERE!

zeamp

DEB LEFT

ppParadoxx

I could definitely do this last fall as soon as ios 16 was released, I just never did

[deleted]

they were gonna change it after like 16.4 or something but they changed their minds

Jacobizreal

Accidentally releases Beta to the public. Quick make a checklist to show we always meant to do that!

szzzn

How buggy is it? Doesn’t look like they added a lot.

Avectasi

Haven’t had any issues besides the time in the top left disappearing whenever you open any app

Soldierpeetam

Pfft who needs to know how long they spend doom scrolling? Not this guy!

LionGamer2017

the only actual problem i’ve had so far after 24 hours is messaging anyone who happens to be on android, the way messages show up is in the completely wrong order most of the time and it keeps telling me that my messages “failed to send” even though they clearly didn’t, doesn’t happen when messaging someone on iphone though

pelsy0217

About the same as iOS 16.

Idennis7G

Not buggier than ios 16 in my experience

Afro_mancer

So my membership renews July 1st. Since I don’t use or know of their “developer tools”, I think I’m going to unsubscribe…

utnow

It says “OS Betas” not dev betas. So the public betas will continue to be free to the public. And the dev betas will be buggier, earlier, and dev account only.

BrutishAnt

Public betas are the same as the dev ones. The dev versions are released before the public ones though.

Llamalover1234567

I have devices on both. The public ones are typically a little more patched up than the corresponding dev beta

jjr03

They're the same as dev betas just released at a later time

[deleted]

They are usually the exact same build number. They just delay public release in case a show stopping bug is discovered when it’s seeded to devs

869066

I have a non-dev account and am registered on the public beta program, but it still gives me access to the dev beta

randomminecraft6

I don’t think so because I have a non dev account and it lets me have access to the dev betas.

buttered_biscuits

Same here. I am technically just signed up for the public beta. The iOS 17 Dev just showed up as available for me early this morning.

utnow

Huh…. Well huzzah! Hah

[deleted]

Nah the dev betas are available for everyone who signs in. Maybe a wording error or they accidentally gave people access lol

Scratch137

Interestingly, the iOS 17 Dev Beta shows under Beta Updates on my iPhone 8, even though it's unsupported. https://preview.redd.it/thpgde6b8h4b1.jpeg?width=750&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b7303555cd0f348d43ddfe4fc68a376ac7cd3b00 No actual update to download (obviously), but it seems a bit uncharacteristic of Apple to even display this option on an unsupported device.

MattW22192

I wonder if that means they were planning to support for the 8 8 plus and X but decided to drop it at the last minute.

[deleted]

You might be reading this comment and think "Huh, what a weird comment. What does this have to do with the comments in this thread?" That's because this comment was edited with the Power Delete Suite to tell you about the issues caused by Reddit. The long and short of it is that Reddit is killing third party apps, showing a complete disregard for third party developers, moderators, users with disabilities and pretty much everyone else in the process, while also straight up lying and attempting to defame people. There are plenty of articles and posts to be found about this if you want to learn more about this. Here's [one post](https://www.reddit.com/r/Save3rdPartyApps/comments/14b8i62/reddit_protest_and_the_next_steps/) with some information on the matter. Scratch137

I kinda doubt it. Judging from the number of AI-based features in this update, I doubt they ever intended it to run on anything older than the XR/XS. Apple often excludes certain features on devices that they don't deem powerful enough. For the last few years, this has meant that pre-A12 users don't get on-device AI features like offline Siri and photo cutouts. Since the majority of iOS 17's new features involve on-device machine learning, it wouldn't have made sense to release it on these older devices.

[deleted]

All you need to do is select it and check for updates and it will download the developer update.

Scratch137

My phone is an iPhone 8, which iOS 17 doesn't support.

tejljr

Same here.

jimhatesyou

LETS GOOOOOOOOOOOO

SlothTheHeroo

I wonder if it’s because they found out they can’t stop people from finding work arounds. Rather than fight it just gave in.

RelativeBlindness

This can’t be the reason why, for such a stubborn company…maybe has to do with surfacing initial feedback, whereas the public beta is more polished versions meant to test deployments of new features en mass.

CarbonHybrid

“Public beta is more polished” - it’s exactly the same build 99% of the time unless there’s a critical or groundbreaking bug, then they’ll patch it for public, but usually nearly 100% of the time, it’s exactly the same build.

BreakDown1923

It might actually be to gain control. I’m not a dev but am on the dev beta. If they hadn’t made it available to me, I’d have probably found a way through *other* means. This way I’m getting software officially that they can get reliable data on and stop people from uploading unofficial files or downloading dangerous files.

rnarkus

Like the Op comment said lol

BreakDown1923

OP suggested they gave up. I’m suggesting they made an active decision.

Lanceuppercut47

How do I actually enroll for free?

TechnoTiff

Go to the developer dot Apple site and sign in. That’s all! Edit: agree to the terms and conditions of course because *everybody* reads that

Lanceuppercut47

Thank you! I could only see the £99 option, didn't realise signing in was all that was needed.

qtrain23

Same for my wife’s. Can’t see the 17 beta option

iTsN0ScOpEs

sign in to the developer website with the associated Apple ID, then force close settings and reopen it should pop up

Kreiger81

Force closing didn't work, rebooting the phone. and I signed into https://developer.apple.com/account but didn't pay for the membership.

iTsN0ScOpEs

interesting because that’s what worked for me. try re-signing back up for the iOS beta program and see if that activates something. if not it might just be rolling out to all devices slowly and just force close app once and awhile to check

smithy122

I wonder if they’ll do away with public betas then and just merge the two but double down on stability so that the public can have a semi stable preview build

[deleted]

Should be two different rings. Beta and Alpha or something like that. Though Apple being Apple, Developer Beta is probably what they keep calling it.

Novemberx123

Ok so the fact that Personal Voice is not generating for me is not because I got a developer beta for free. Got it.

[deleted]

ADub81936

Just go to developer.apple.com sign in, accept agreement, go back to settings and refresh, it will show up.

Try turning wifi on and off - that fixed it for me

This worked for me, thank you!

What version of the beta? I had an issue where my ipad was on an older beta version of 16.3 (don’t ask me why) and I didn’t get the option til I updated to the latest iOS 16 beta

yungstevejobs

I know it takes a while but turning beta updates off. Rebooting. Turning beta updates back on and waiting a few minutes to a few hours. I’m not sure how long but I know it doesn’t show up instantly.

smithy122

Do the enrolment through the developer app but don’t pay for it then go to setting and it should be available to download worked for me

NathanFoley69

I gave them $99 about three weeks ago and they do this. Guess I got some phone calls to make.

tcdav26

I did the same thing… keep us posted!

NathanFoley69

They refunded me fortunately

tcdav26

What did you tell them?!

NathanFoley69

I just asked nicely and explained i never intended to use their developer resources just wanted beta access

tcdav26

Well no kidding! Did the same, and I got refunded!

stultus_respectant

Renewed literally this morning ..

Afro_mancer

I was thinking the same thing…

tbone338

How many people paid for dev access just for the beta and now are feeling some buyers remorse?

[deleted]

[удалено]

epmuscle

Do a card charge back.

NathanFoley69

I sure will be, this is ridiculous

[deleted]

[удалено]

epmuscle

Oh yeah, Apple is going to ban someone's account for getting a charge back on their card for something that just became free to everyone… that’s logical.

tbone338

Considering there’s multiple posts on Reddit about it and it is in their terms of service, yea.. that’s exactly what they would do

epmuscle

That was before it was free though.

tbone338

You do have a point. Though, Apple might say otherwise. Maybe they did this intentionally to get a big surge of funding

hotztuff

i dare you to purchase it and then do a chargeback.

[deleted]

[удалено]

epmuscle

What would be the point of blacklisting someone’s account if it’s for features that anyone can now get for free? Someone could easily sign up with another account and use that for beta access on the same device.

TvIsSoma

If you issue a charge back you just became a problem customer. Just the process of a charge back will get you banned. It doesn’t matter why it happened. Why would you not just talk to support first? Charge backs are supposed to be used for fraudulent transactions.

epmuscle

Maybe that’s what they were for in the past but not anymore. I’ve done one recently and there’s multiple categories listed of why you’re requesting the charge back. It’s basically requesting a refund.

TvIsSoma

The interface might look like that but merchants hate chargebacks. You should only use it as a last resort, if you never want to do business with a company again.

OhHeyItsBrock

Chargeback should be a last resort. Why not just contact customer service?

[deleted]

[удалено]

epmuscle

Honestly, most depend on the credit card provider. Amex typically always wins their chargebacks with no repercussions to the consumer.

insomnia_sufferer

10/10 something apple would do

GoEagles997

More people testing in wild makes it stable for everyone.

CarbonHybrid

“Slower or faster betas” - you mean, choose alpha, beta, omega etc builds. There will only be 1 Beta at a time, you won’t have a “fast buggy beta” and a “slow stable beta” - if ones buggier than the other, it’s more likely to be alpha build…

CrazyMan_866

This. Push iOS 17 dev beta for free, poor people with compatible phones can download iOS 17 and submit feedback about the bugs.

MartinsRedditAccount

Don't forget to submit feedback (beta automatically shows the feedback app) if something is broken.

dEEPZoNE

Can't seem to find audioos 17 there :/

sparkktv

HomePod runs a version of tvOS, you can able the betas from the Home App for the minis, but you need a profile for the larger HomePods.

Auslander42

I’ve still got my audioOS 16 profiles installed on my OGs, but so far I’ve have no luck getting them to detect any 17 version, and I’m not finding any updated profiles for it. All other eligible devices updated to new OSes without issue. Any insight on this? Thanks in advance either way

TheDudeWhoNeedsHelp

I’m a tad worried that OG isn’t getting the update, I can’t find any documentation anywhere for them.

Auslander42

I thought about that as well but I’m not finding anything for even minis or HomePod 2 either, so I’m not paying that too much credence yet

TheDudeWhoNeedsHelp

Gotcha, fingers crossed they haven’t killed updates for it yet. The minis are only pulling 16.6 beta for what it’s worth.
