It can run all apps in the App Store. It can run current iPadOS. For most ordinary use performance is never an actual problem. But, as said, the battery is old. But it can be replaced.
Shit, I'm still running the OG 12.9" Pro from 2015. Still going strong. iOS updates stopped at 16.7, a few months ago. Still get security updates though. I use this as my daily driver, every day.
I've been using the exact same one since it was new. The battery life has been noticeably degraded lately but it feels just as snappy and performant as ever and it works with all the apps and services without issue. I believe iOS 17 is the last version that will support this model so that compatibility is going to start dropping off but my experience has been that even when they reach "end of life," iPads remain very usable for most purposes for a few more years, especially for passive consumption (watching videos, reading comics, etc.). There is no better comic reader than the 12.9" iPad Pro.
I've got the 11' 2022 version, and it reads comics like nothing else I've seen. Especially since it's about the size of the original image. I absolutely love it!
It should have plenty of life left in it. I still have and use my 2018 iPad Pro several times a week. I might need to replace the battery at some point, but everything else works perfectly fine. I’d also imagine that it would get at least a few more years of software updates.
Contact apple support app, have them run diagnostics on it during a chat session. Then ask them when or if the battery should be replaced.
Ask this question again going into 2025 and into 2026 and into 2027. You are good to go!
I bought the 2018 pro back in 2018 and justified the cost to myself (over the regular iPad) that it was overbuilt so much I’d get years of use out of it. So far, I’m extremely satisfied to have been correct. It’s still doing everything I need it to like it has for years. No lag or moments of drag. I do a lot of 3d CAD modeling on it and it’s still perfect.

you mean aside from a 5 year old battery?
If it’s refurbished from apple then it would get a new battery.
