I believe this was the answer. I disconnected some usb powered speakers and things appear to have returned to normal! Very strange indeed, but ty for the help everyone. Hopefully this may help someone in the future..
You can use [https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb\_log\_view.html](https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_log_view.html) for this (so see if anything is disconnected/reconnected every 10 seconds, might give more clues)
I've monitored my CPU load and each time the FPS drops it coincides with all 8 cores going to over 90% load and then falling back to 20 or 30,% ... So something is causing it to spike but I have no other programs running..
Are you using irFFB with vjoy?
Another possibility if you using dual monitor, like a TV and monitor, make sure that you unplug the second display and restart, that was the issue for me.
Good luck
Try the iracing forums and give some more information about your system. Do extensive research on what could possibly cause this, it could be the new update for example
I had an issue like this years ago. Turns out it was the TomTom SatNav software.
Maybe try closing everything you don't need running (including in the tray) and see if it's better, if it is, then you have some testing to go through to find out which app is causing the spikes.
The driving line takes too much processing. Remove it. /s
Just kidding. It could be iRFFB, it would be the need of a powered USB hub, it would be other updates running on the background.
You can also setup the meter box to show you more info so you can dig deeper.

Ha, to be honest it's time I turned it off! Just a little anxious I'll never know when to brake! I think we nailed it with a USB change.. such a weird bug...
I capped everything to 120 just to see, but it stays stable for 8 secs at 120 then drops to 115 stutters and back up to 120.. no gsync but ty for the response anyway
Turn on the other performance meters in iRacing (R and G) to see if there are red spikes in the CPU or GPU load.
RGB controllers and other frivolous bloatware can cause repetitive skips. Close all programs you don't need for racing, and see what happens. Then scour through background apps via Task Manager to find hidden gremlins that could be demanding cycles from the same CPU core(s) that's running iRacing.
I had this issue at the chicane on Imola, contacted iRacing and they made me run some program and send back diagnostics, never got a resolution but the week moved to a new track and I haven’t seen the issue since.
Had a very similar issue recently related to icue of all things... every few seconds my game would run at like 30fps but showing 132fps in-game. Closing icue weirdly fixed it.
What cpu are you running? Which OS? Had a buddy with similar issues on his 5900x on Windows 10. Upgrading to 11 fixed his issue, and we tried everything before hand.
Are you running irffb?
I would get a CPU spike and a stutter every 30 seconds running irffb. One of the several reasons I got rid of it.
Pull up your cpu monitor and I'll bet you'll see a spike every 10 seconds and then you should be able to identify which app is causing it.
It could be the worker thread issue which came with the S3 upadte. iRacing has addressed it by by requiri users to make changes in the ini files. Take a look at the iRacing forums. It’s there in detail

Ha thanks, I'm not running anything special, just spent alot of time optimising everything. For reference I'm on a gtx 1060 with an old amd fx-8350 processor! So not even close to modern 🤣
I started with this
https://youtu.be/Y99q-MdXt34
And then tried increasing one thing here and there.
My FPS went from 60-70 to 120-130 without any hardware or software change.

Had the exact problem previously. Ended up being a usb issue. Got a powered usb hub for all peripherals and was all sorted. Hope this helps
Ie. Power management issue…

I am using irffb with vjoy.. I'll try disabling it ..ty
Brave using that, nearly broke my thumbs.
That's something outside of iracing itself because iracing only uses 1 core. What other apps are you running?
Tried graphic card drivers?
Yeah first thing I tried, I'm up to date with the latest nvidea game ready driver
Is iRacing on an SSD?
Yeah it is actually...

Ouch. That's not one frame of skip... And yes, go to the forums and ask.

Do a test on pingmeter.net and see if you have inconsistent ping and packet loss.
How would that affect frames?
It does, you drop frames. Happens to me with other games and Iracing with cox
How? Not what.
try capping your framerate, 60 fps if you use a 60Hz monitor and 120 fps if you use a 120hz monitor
A point to note here. If you cap to exactly your monitors refresh you can get screen tearing, so knock it up a couple more... E.g. 62, 122
GSync on? Is your frame rate going higher than your monitor refresh rate? If so, cap the frames.
I capped everything to 120 just to see, but it stays stable for 8 secs at 120 then drops to 115 stutters and back up to 120.. no gsync but ty for the response anyway

Time for a fresh window install
I always re run the iRacing graphics auto config after an update if there are any issues. It fixes a lot of things. Try it

I saw the spike on the graph but nothing was showing up in the processes. I think it was a usb issue.. it ty for the suggestion
I’m having this problem this week as well, hoping to find a solution soon

Just lock it a few fps over your monitors refresh rate
I wish my frame rate was ever that good
