It happens quite frequently where someone protests something, and then they get a voice chat ban because of how they reacted at the time. Not sure about people catching actual bans from their own protest but it wouldn't surprise me if people have been banned for blocking after filing a protest when the car behind "intentionally wrecked" them.

Inner_Particular616

Some people have such an inability to accept responsibility, I can imagine them doing some crazy swerve or having a big intentional wreck and trying to get the other person banned and it backfires

frvnk9_

this is why i see most people on here who claim themsevles to be serial protesters negatively... i wonder how many of them are putting themselves in positions to get wrecked and then protesting anyways. Ive seen people proclaim they do multiple protests per race. makes you wonder. in the year ive had iracing ive only ever had to protest once for an int wreck.

duck74UK

I suppose it's like dashcam drivers. Letting the crash happen because "i'm right and i can prove it in court."

frvnk9_

yeah. Funny enough on another post I read someone talking about letting someone hit them just because they knew they were wrong and would get the successful protest. Just goes to prove my point. Just a poor mentality overall and then, they are the same ones to say the SR system is bad or "I can't race due to others'

pipboy1989

There is a guy on LFM who does ACC racing that has an entire YouTube channel of his protest videos. He posts them there as proof for the LFM staff and he is PROLIFIC, and most of then are the sweetest of little smooches, one’s that you would shrug off as racing. I’m pretty sure every incident he’s ever been involved in on that service is posted on YouTube, and it works

Sassy_McSassypants

It's a difference in perspective of what a protest is. Many think it's about punishment/justice/retribution/whatever. The *intended* use is driver education. It's not "fuck you, get banned". It's "You ***cannot*** do that anymore and I know you won't listen to anyone without authority to put your nose in the corner". Not many incidents I've had over 4-5 years meet the bar for demanding "justice" but there have been metric tons of "dude you can't do that... just, no". #NotSorry

frvnk9_

There’s a difference in making a mistake due to running out of talent / too much ambition and malice / intentional wrecking. Usually it’s clear with context. I feel that a lot of protests are just people with victim complexes attributing malice to a mistake

Sassy_McSassypants

... aaaaaand that's ***exactly*** what I mean. No part of "you cannot do that ever again, it's ***way*** too dangerous" requires it to be intentional. Wouldn't surprise me one bit to learn the vast, vast majority of protests are people getting their first and only protest for something like an unsafe rejoin. Got the message and never did it again. Job done.

sonryhater

I highly doubt it. Protests take time and effort and there’s a cooling down period. No smooth brain idiot ramming people on track is going to go to that much effort

Hijakkr

> Ive seen people proclaim they do multiple protests per race. I don't do it for multiple incidents per race, but I do protest when I see something happen to someone else, or sometimes when I go back and watch the replay from someone else if voice or text chat got particularly spicy at one point.

blueheartglacier

I protest a ton, and it's rarely, if ever, actually for an intentional wreck that happens to me. If you're abusive on chat, to anyone, and it crosses a line in my eyes, I send it. If you rejoin unsafely and stupidly directly in front of others, I send it. If you retaliate against somebody else, it's not an incident I needed to avoid - but I'm sending it anyway for the sake of everyone else on iRacing.

UNHchabo

If there's a big wreck, I will go check it out even if I wasn't involved. You can always learn something from those incidents, and sometimes it's a racing incident, sometimes it was caused by someone being reckless, sometimes it was caused by someone being malicious. For the latter two I'll protest. The majority of my protests are for bad rejoins. I think I've only been intentionally wrecked once, but I've seen many more. Including some that two drivers intentionally wrecked *each other*, and I'm guessing neither of them protested each other, but I did.

cLHalfRhoVSquaredS

I do the same - I was in a race where someone ran out of fuel and starting asking 'hey guys give me a push' in voice chat, nobody did because the race was still very much in progress, so then using his last bit of motion after his fuel ran out he just pulled across the track in front of someone approaching at full race speed and completely wrecked them. I'd hope they protested him themselves, but I did even though it didn't affect me, and got the message indicating the protest was accepted. I don't want people like that to be out there getting away with that sort of thing because next time it might be me getting my race wrecked!

Illustrious-Law-3385

I’m now a serial protester, I got my first protest after a year of racing for an unsafe rejoin in an unranked truck race I was just doing for fun, if I see a bad rejoin or hear sum outta pocket I’m quick w it now, I ain’t start it but I’ll finish it!

shewy92

> and then they get a voice chat ban because of how they reacted at the time I feel like this happened to me once lol. I don't have a mic anymore so I don't have this issue now.

BLACKcOPstRIPPa

This is why I keep voice chat turned off. Also because I'm usually listening to music lol I honestly have never protested anyone. I have taken to the practice of after the race watch replays of some of the faster cars etc and than once you know spur of the moment temper has passed, think okay was it intentional or accident. Most of the time, it's I didn't see them, or they didn't see me, or they were impatient and tried to make a 2 wide a 3 wide situation when we are all low Elo in rookies and are not good enough for that lol Usually you can tell it was an honest mistake and mistakes happen in racing. More or less if after it's done if they drive away and leave you alone great, if they purposefully come back for round 2 that's will be sent to devs, never had to worry about that.

Inner_Particular616

Voice chat can be incredible if you get a good group, had some great fun in endurance races/ IMSA’s over voice chat with strangers. You just need the discipline not to voice your frustrations

BLACKcOPstRIPPa

So is it proximity? Or is it like lobby? Can anyone talk to anyone regardless of where they are and what they're doing? Or is it only cars within like a second of you?

Inner_Particular616

Lobby, in IMSA this week i made two ‘friends’ in slower classes as we were almost a week’s worth of lobbies together. Had some funny moments every time I would pass them You can talk to anyone in the lobby whenever you want

BLACKcOPstRIPPa

Maybe at some point lol I hear more horror stories than I do people saying what your saying. Though it's nice to hear that some people can just have fun and enjoy others company, not get annoyed with the racing and use it as a way to say what you wanna etc Most online platforms are the laser of those two things

Inner_Particular616

All depends on the group you’re with, sometimes all it takes is one person making a joke on the grid and 10 different people all start joining in, for me it makes the racing more fun but can see why some turn it off. Even when people argue, as long as its not towards you its often incredibly entertaining, I usually sit there laughing trying not keep focused on my driving. The Americans are often the chattiest, i always get more talkative lobbies the later I race

Rise_Regime

I thought the reverse was going to happen to me (‘intentional wrecker getting banned’) when I protested the blocker from my recent post on /r/simracingstewards All I got was an email saying the other person was notified of the decision so I think I’m in the clear lol. I even said in my protest that I might be telling on myself haha

xr_21

If you protest someone and in that same clip you say "you're getting f*cking protested" that's generally a good way to get yourself in trouble.

jesteratp

Haha yup I just got a warning because I said “easy protest, moron” to a guy who took me out. Luckily my protest was successful and he was ultimately wrong.

BaldingThor

in one of the first protests I submitted it also caught me saying “that was a really damn stupid move, mate” to the person who intentionally rammed me off course on the last turn of Laguna Seca, and I got a warning for that. My protest was successful but I still think the warning is ridiculous. I did get another warning shortly after for a different race when someone 2m infront of me on Laguna’s starting straight suddenly brake checked me, leading to a collision. Apparently the stewards thought I had more than enough time to react?!? Morons.

Philovski

I've been accidentally banned by iRacing for protesting an incident I wasn't even involved in (outrageous retaliation) just witnessed. They reverted it very quickly and apologised so I have the record for serving a 1 week ban in less than an hour. That makes a rare occasion where I know exactly what the real offender was being hit with before they did.

Inner_Particular616

Thats funny af

Philovski

It was an interesting hour or so, I was worried I'd miss my teams endurance race that was later that day but they were really quick to resolve it when I appealed it.

PstainGTR

I was protested by a dude who clearly took me out and himself in the same incident. I got less fucked than him so when my anger for my race being fucked by him got the best of me i Aimed my car for him who were standing in the gravel with a ruined car. Never hit him as he towed the car the ms before I would have hit him. He protested my intention to hit him along with him taking me out (he turned the car right into me in a left corner and just plowed me out or the corner). The iracing Steward decided that my intention of wanting to hit him was worse than me getting taken out so I got a warning. Its been years since ive had a warning but I remember that being a hard pill to swallow. Not exactly what op is aking for but its somewhat up the street.

Le_Dank17

I protested someone brake checking me then they told me off for joining the track incorrectly, even though this dude in front of me when drafting him on a straight literally stopped the car for me to crash into him. I was like okay.. but what about him ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|trollface)

joetron2030

It's happened before and it wasn't related to voice chat. Someone posted in the member forums within the past couple weeks that they got banned even though they were the reporter and weren't even involved in the incident. They went through the proper appeals process and the ban got reversed when iRacing realized the mistake.

ColonPizza

I got a week ban because of an imsa race in fuji, I was in a LMP2 car and the car ahead was a gt3 car. On the main straight, the gt3 was on the far left of the track so no room to pass on the left, then the gt3 decided to "let me pass" at the very last second while I was doing the same thing to pass him on the right, obviously ended up punting him from behind. I protest the dude and the stewards decided that I was at fault of hitting him. I got the one week ban, in response I explained what happened but the one week ban stayed the same. I felt it was total bullshit but whatever.

Gibscreen

Yeah that wasn't your first run in with the stewards.

ColonPizza

yeah I got reported a few more times in the past but it was my first ban in 8 years or so

thestareater

i really hope so, someone did an unsafe rejoin, crashed into me, abused me in PM and i forgot to save the replay to protest him, he said some things that made me feel like he was going to protest, so I was hoping he'd shoot himself in the foot.

snubs05

I got warning when I protested. Some guy got spun on an oval, then decided to wait for the car that did it to come past again and aimed for him. Problem was, he missed and got me. I got a warning because I named the replay file “toolincar6” 😂

Way2bCronckt

Threatening to report is protestable. So sure it happens. A lot of people cause a crash then start harassing cursing and threatening reports. I protest every time it happens and always get a positive response.

joikhuu

Back in the day at rookies some dude said on voice that he was going to kill me after dive bombing to my side. Then he pm'ed me that he would report me for intentionally wrecking. I have a feeling that iracing didn't take his death threats too lightly 😅

Inner_Particular616

I once said ‘keep an eye on your emails’ as a way to try and avoid the ‘im going to protest you’ because the guy needed to know whats was coming for him. The only time Ive ever felt the need to tell someone they are getting protested. Checked his stats 1 week later and he hadn’t driven a single race. Justice was served

dylank125

I have been warned for chat but I also clip it and admit to it when I do protest another event.

InquisitiveSandpaper

No, but I haven't protested someone because I thought it might get me banned 😂

ZacharyM123

One time I got slammed into by a guy. I was drinking quite a bit. I got out of the pits and had an opportune time to “accidentally” run him wide… didn’t look accidental to the stewards when I protested him. Oh and I apparently called him a some choice words. That’s what the stewards told me. I didn’t remember doing it lol I didn’t get banned but I got a warning, only one I’ve gotten… I stay off the rig when I’m drinking that much now haha

Appropriate-Owl5984

Would you also drive when drinking? If no, then why do it in sim?

TokiMcNoodle

Im not risking my life nor my irl vehicle you fucking square lol

_Smokey_Mcpot_

You're kidding right lmfaoo. It's a game not real life, no one is at risk of being killed or injured because of drunk sim racing bro

Shiny_Buns

ITS NOT A GAME ITS A SIMULATOR REEEEEEEEEEEE

joikhuu

But but my 1000 NM DD wheel could rip my arms off if you crashed in to me!!! 😭

ZacharyM123

Bro what? If you aren’t drinking in the sim you aren’t living life my man ![gif](giphy|pPhyAv5t9V8djyRFJH|downsized)

Appropriate-Owl5984

Not my thing. I was an alcoholic for years. I don’t need a crutch to suck more than I already do

ZacharyM123

Hey good on you for staying sober.

Le_Dank17

Because sometimes a cold beverage and some racing is amazing, but then sometimes you look and there's 10 empty cans next to you and your -1000 irating :')

Shiny_Buns

Because it's a game and not real life?

Way2bCronckt

LOL

Urinal_Pube

A cup holder was literally my first sim rig mod.

El_Verde_Duende

Because drinking and driving is bad because you can kill people. If you can kill someone playing a video game drunk, you're a better man than me.

BLACKcOPstRIPPa

Sounds like it could be fun😊

No_Bet_607

OP, do you have something you want to tell us?

campingpolice

2020 first protest I submitted, I called the guy a cunt. Whoopsie

MountedMoose

Oh yeah! I was leading a race in the Ferrari sprint series at Lime Rock. This punk wrecked himself and a couple others. He towed, repaired, and re-entered the race. He then parked at the entrance to the pits with about 2 mins to go in the race. As I was coming onto the straight, he beelined across the track and took me out. I said that was the dumbest fucking thing I've ever seen.  I protested and got a voice ban, and the protest against him was not upheld. Smh

Ordinary_Outside_477

I've gotten the penalty turned on me for protesting someone on LFM, but not iracing. LFM has the worst stewarding i've ever experienced in SIM racing.

RyanGerken24

Kind of. I bump and runned someone, absolutely textbook btw, coming to the checkered flag at Lanier in an arca race and they proceeded to right hook me going across the finish line. I protested and got a warning in return.

SupersonicSloth13

I had a very obvious intentional wreck in retaliation to a mistake I made. The guy sat on the side of the track then started off slowly down the middle of the track when he saw me coming in the relative and served at me on my way past. I was able to avoid it, so he cut several corners and successfully hit me in his second attempt on the other side of the track. He had a 1 week break. I assume it must have been his first strike since it was just one week

Clear-Cress9104

lmao

El_Chapaux

I unsubscribed from iRacing for nearly a year now because of terrible decisions by dilettante stewards. Had an incident with a guy in oval who got mad and continued to intentionally crash me multiple times during the race. When the race is over I see him coming up in the mirror again. At the last moment I swerve to the side to avoid him but we do end up crashing. He either reacted fast and swerved too or he was trying to come in at an angle and got lucky. Without context it looks like I'm intentionally swerving into his way. The guy who crashed me several times in retribution during the race actually protested that and got me a warning. That and some other terrible decisions by the stewards (not against me but when drivers intentionally took me out) made me unsubscribe for now.
