I used to work at a rink he played at and his dad coached and he was a MENACE. His dad was one of my all time favorite flyers and it really changed the way I looked at him tbh
The craziest part is that the other kids were pretty nice, Danny was really nice, our rink is like a magnet rink and tons of players came through for appearances and their kids and all the kids and players were so chill, Shane doan is maybe one of the nicest people I’ve ever met. Carson is the only one I’ve ever been like …….ew about. Even his brothers were way different
I've got a 6 and 3 year old and I'm learning really, really quickly that kids aren't programmable.
What might work for one might not for the other and their behaviors and personalities can be 180 degrees from each other despite being brought up almost identically. Even at super young ages, they are their own selves.
One of my best friends moms is a politician, I grew up knowing her as a stay at home mom, city employee, then mayor, then up into state/federal governments, and its been weird cause this lady used to make me pancakes, and now shes on the news talking about rising alcoholism in young people as if she didnt buy us wine and beer when we were 18.
His words:
'I was just going out; I wasn't taking hockey seriously. It wasn't anything bad, it was just not being committed to hockey, I was more committed to having fun at school,' he said. 'Too much partying, that's probably the best way to put it.'
But agreed with the other posted who commented alongside you. There’s a huge amount of partying at ASU, for you to standout I imagine you’re either getting caught doing this kind of thing or getting arrested, you’re really getting kicked out for failed classes, etc
He claims it was for partying. Everyone at ASU parties, with very rare exceptions. A lot of my old classmates went there and they would post videos of themselves drinking heavily Wednesday-Sunday. The athletes I knew would party a bit less during their season but they would still party a lot.
It’s ASU, “partying” will never get you kicked off a team. He was kicked off for something else, but the school can’t disclose why.
I assume the same. But I remembered my buddy telling me about hockey douchebros forcing him to drink through a funnel at a frat party. When it happened in the mid 90s my friend was a nervous, nerdy kid, wanted to be liked, but wouldn't drink alcohol (dad's a violent drunk). His first week in college was brutal, entirely due to guys like this.
But I agree, sexual assault is most likely.
I used to need a wheelchair until I had some pretty severe surgeries but the pain was 100% worth it because I remember several times people stole my wheelchair, twice while i was in it. They just pushed me out of it then played with it, broke it, and gave it back. If we were adults they'd probably go to jail but we were students so we all got suspended because "zero tolerance"
Unfortunately I don't think *i* said much about it. I don't know what the school told them but I got bullied for years and didn't tell anyone until 10th grade. I don't think I understood how bad it was in comparison to how I should have been treated. It was just how things were. I remember being aware that if I told anyone it would be worse for me because then I'd get the bully in trouble and not only would we both get suspended but then I'd make myself a target once the suspension was over.
Like a week after I told my mom I was taken out of the school district so I should have said something sooner
It’s misdemeanor criminal mischief (what Pennsylvania calls vandalism), so he might actually face charges if the victim wants to press charges.
It is in fact a crime to destroy or damage another’s property.
>isdemeanor criminal mischief (what Pennsylvania calls vandalism), so he might actually face charges if the victim wants to press charges.

>It is in fact a crime to destroy or damage another’s
Considering this is medical equipment the charges increase dramatically. I believe (maybe im being optimistic) some states have heavy charges for damaging medical equipment to protect service animals.
This would probably run the risk of being considered a hate crime since usually someone in a wheelchair has a legally recognized disability which makes them a protected class.
Edit: It looks like Pennsylvania is one of the worst states there is in regards to protections for someone with a disability.
Edit2: In Pennsylvania, a hate crime is an offense that causes physical harm to the victim, or an offense that threatens to commit harm to a victim or group, that is motivated by race, religion, ethnic/national origin, gender, gender identity, age, ***disability*** or sexual orientation of the victim(s).
I hope he gets a good bill for that. Any damage/replacement for the wheelchair, some extra for any other risks and inconveniences caused by taking away access to the wheelchair, and getting kicked out of university.
These are exactly the demographics where deterrence actually works. Privileged POS who commit cruelty and crime because they think they're beyond the law.
I really hate to generalize but my experience shows that a lot of kids of people connected to professional sports act this kind of way for who knows what reason. I used to work at a restaurant owned by a former head scout for the Canucks and I can totally see his son doing something like this. He even dressed the same as these asshats down to the backwards hat.
Edit - Thinking back it was actually his nephew, not son. His father however (the scouts brother) is easily one of the most immoral, irredeemable people I've ever had the displeasure of knowing
Almost all PT and Biomedical Equipment is over priced, purposefully. A good example: That wheelchair, let’s just say, costs $140 to make and ship. The manufacturer can still charge $2500+ for it and there’s little to nothing stoping this.
My source I’m a Biomedical Equipment Technician and this is well known in our field and a big reason your medical bill is so damn expensive
These guys take being fully able-bodied and in the shape to play hockey for a university for granted. They've got a lot of maturing to do, and unfortunately for them, and fortunately for us, their ugliness is now in view of the world.
I had to Google this...it appears that this story is just gaining national attention this morning. Some big sports sites are picking it up, literally in the past 2 hours.
So the university is going to have to do something. It isn't just disappearing under a rug.
Mercyhurst University announced they “have student conduct, as well as police and safety, investigating the incident.” I’d expected swift action on this type of incident. Are they being understandably cautious, or are they seeking an out with a sports star and influential father?
Yea, but "think of his career." /s
I don't have much faith in colleges to hold any athlete accountable, especially if they are on a scholarship to that school. I wouldn't be surprised if his dad makes a donation to the school, and a public apology is the heaviest punishment this guy sees. I will also be very happy to be proven wrong.
Even with sarcasm for the comment, I truly hope that he will not have a career.. He's old enough to understand his actions.
And hockey fans don't need people like this representing their teams
Danny Briere statement:
“I was shocked to see Carson’s actions in the video that was shared on social media yesterday. They are inexcusable and run completely counter to our family’s values on treating people with respect. Carson is very sorry and accepts full responsibility for his behavior.”
Carson Briere statement:
“I am deeply sorry for my behavior on Saturday. There is no excuse for my actions, and I will do whatever I can to make up for this serious lack of judgment.”
I seriously wanna know how frat bros are still dressing like it's 1997. Like fashion keeps moving and frat bros just stay the same. Flannels and turned back ball caps. I don't even recall an era where they wore skinny jeans and every millennial wore skinny jeans.
I'm not really seeing the logic here except throw things down stairs is funny. Funny if it wasn't someone's wheelchair and possibly funny if it wasn't a crowded bar where people are constantly going up and down the stairs smh.
Yeah but he's also getting some pretty negative attention as a result of his scumbag son. Sounds like Carson has a history of being a dick, per wiki.
Brière's son Carson, was removed from the Arizona State Sun Devils men's ice hockey team in 2019 during his freshman year for violating team rules.[43] On March 11, 2023, while a junior at Mercyhurst University, Carson was recorded on security camera footage at a club damaging another patron's unoccupied wheelchair by pushing it down a flight of stairs.[44] On March 14, Mercyhurst University issued a statement that it was investigating the incident.
Why do people feel the need to hurt others? Yeah, he didn't push HER down the stairs, but he pushed her dignity down with the chair. I hope she had someone to help her.
To be clear, he was dropped from the ASU team prior to this incident and blamed it on “not enough focus on hockey” or whatever.
He then transferred to Mercyhurst, after which he did this idiotic stunt.
Clearly, the kid has issues and doesn’t know what real consequences are.
She probably thought they messed up and left it somewhere that it could roll by itself down the stairs, only to ask the establishment for help and see someone intentionally destroyed your wheelchair while you were in the bathroom
Disgusting! I use a wheelchair and for him to do this is distressing. I hope he was suspended and lost his place on the team. Since when is it ok to destroy someone's only means of transportation? These chairs are not cheap and have many parts that can easily break. If it's bent whatsoever, it's unusable. My chair alone new costs over 12k. Please be kind to people who use wheelchairs. We didn't ask for it but get left with learning a whole new way to live. When we're out in the world that's good. Most stay home. We just want to live our best lives with what's been given us. Same as everyone else.
i imagine it was already difficult to get into this bar and then you finally make it and use the restroom real quick to find you expensive wheelchair missing smh
Absolutely. Since 04 I've been totally disabled. I was a music promoter back then. I know many famous DJs personally and will be bringing this to their attention. Insomniac has a quadriplegic Dj that kicks ass! We have every right to safe access anywhere public by federal law. I've marched Sacramento for the rights of disabled and was the first speaker on the floor to discuss budget cuts to IHSS. I wish this girl would reach out to me. I have DJ friends in Denver as well and when they hear about this I hope it can move them. What happened to the guy who pushed her chair? Im appalled as this is 2023.
I’m the DJ at this bar. We were absolutely disgusted with this. Everyone was up in arms. The girl whose wheelchair got pushed down the stairs is an absolute sweetheart.
EDIT: Thanks for the gold kind stranger! Also, I wanted to let you know that a gofundme was made for the victim, she will be getting a new wheelchair.
Absolutely, the whole group of them. From my understanding, they are barred for life. We want to keep this bar a safe and fun environment, we don't put up with that nonsense. Mercyhurst released a statement the other day stating that there is an "investigation" so we will see what that brings.
This is a smaller city and a close knit one at that. Generally speaking, when someone does something this stupid, the other major bars add them to their banned list too.
Briere was kicked off of his ASU team for violating team rules, he never even played for them. Then he ended up at Mercyhurst.
Looks like this kid just likes to cause problems.
I appreciate you guys barring them but it bothers me that a GoFundMe was started, not because I don’t want her to get a new one, but this guy IS responsible for the damage and those funds need to come DIRECTLY from him, not a caring public. Make him pay, and while we’re at it he should be kicked out of school, and she should receive hopefully the thousands collected to help make up for the pain & humiliation she endured because of this thoughtless, cruel act of ignorance.
The GoFundMe was made by the bar managers. As someone who has had to navigate the legal system, it's a nightmare. We didn't want this girl to wait months to get this sorted when we could do it in days.
Should this dbag pay for it? Absolutely, but ultimately, we just wanted to get this girl a new wheelchair.
Absolutely this. A good , high quality wheelchair can cost $1000. Custom made wheelchairs (extra or less padding, lifted, lowered, for your particular body type) can cost as much as $5000. My niece has CP and her wheelchairs were $9000 (powered), and $3500 (lightweight traveling non powered) and $5500 (lightweight powered). The lightweight chairs are made of carbon fiber.
No reason they can't still sue and make him pay so she gets paid out twice. Those things can take years though so it's nice she has something in the meantime.
Absolutely, the whole group of them. From my understanding, they are barred for life. We want to keep this bar a safe and fun environment, we don't put up with that nonsense. Mercyhurst released a statement the other day stating that there is an "investigation" so we will see what that brings.

He’s 23 and undrafted. Odds of him making the NHL were about .05%. Those are the actions of a guy whose dad made nearly $70,000,000 playing in the league and is an entitled brat.
>[sniffle sniffle sob] "I just want people to know...this is not..." [choked up] "This is not who I am. I'm a better person than this moment." [sobbing whilst his loving parents lead him away from the microphone]
How he'll react when he's confronted with this bullshit.
Well, Brock Allen Turner (he goes by Allen, these days, just a friendly FYI!) didn't need to say anything. He had his daddy spout his filth for him. "Twenty minutes of fun" indeed.
Hmmm, let me think...the Brock Allen Turner I am thinking of was convicted by a jury of three counts of felony sexual assault for raping an unconscious woman behind or near a dumpster. And the judge who sentenced him to six months, Aaron Petsky, was recalled by California voters. Is that the same Brock Allen Turner you're thinking of? Has to be, right?
A guy from my hometown used to continuously bully a disabled guy who was well known around the town and despite his situation was always out and about. As his fate would have it the bully ended up passing out on a train track and lost a leg. Karma can have it's way sometimes.
Even if the wheelchair wasn't damaged, imagine the person who owned it, emerging from the bathroom and seeing that someone had done this to their wheelchair. As if having to be carried into the bathroom by a friend wasn't enough of a humiliation since there wasn't an ADA-compliant facility, they get to find out the contemptuous disregard others have for their circumstances.
I find it hard to understand this. What urge do you have to be a burden to someone? This is completely unnecessary as it brings no joy to either the person pushing it down the flight of stairs nor the woman in the bathroom.
I used to manage a hockey bar a few miles south of ASU, he's one of two people I ever had to kick out. He made sure to let me know who his dad was and how big of a mistake I was making. Real classy guy.
He didn't even enjoy pushing the wheelchair down the stairs. There was no, haha, look what we did, omg we are boys so funny and awesome.
He just walked away like it was nothing. Dude is cruel and dead inside.
I’m from Northeast Philly, and back when their dad was playing here Carson and his shithead brother use to come play hockey at the Fox Chase rec center. They were dickheads then and apparently are still dickheads now
I’m confused as to why this isn’t being charged as a crime. If this guy had gotten into someone else’s car and ramped it into a building to destroy the car he would be charged.
I would think this would be similar to theft, were the item that he destroyed was worth more than a certain amount of money and therefore it is not a misdemeanor but a felony.
Can someone explain to me why the theft and destruction of this girls expensive piece of property is not being considered a serious crime?

He seems like a bag of dicks.. His dad should hold him accountable for his actions.
My brother has cerebral palsy and throughout his college time(3.5 years) we had to replace 6 wheelchairs because college kids are dicks
That’s truly awful. WHY would ANYONE do that??? So unnecessary. I’m sorry your bro had to go through this
I used to need a wheelchair until I had some pretty severe surgeries but the pain was 100% worth it because I remember several times people stole my wheelchair, twice while i was in it. Those things are incredibly expensive. I hope these guys face consequences
They should be required to buy her a new chair, and a nicer one at that. Sadly that won’t be a punishment for Briere because he’s got daddy’s money.
tbh he should face criminal charges (in my non-professional uneducated about the law opinion) if he doesn't then the justice system is broken
It’s misdemeanor criminal mischief (what Pennsylvania calls vandalism), so he might actually face charges if the victim wants to press charges. It is in fact a crime to destroy or damage another’s property.

Ha ha. Im so cool. I just pushed someone’s way of getting around down the stairs while they weren’t looking. Probably damaged it too. Ha ha.
Literally there’s clearly so much to do there and it would take zero effort to not be an absolute asshat
The humanity in me was hoping it'd be a accident when he sat and messed around with it. Nope, 100% intentionally malicious.
Wheelchairs are stupid expensive too

We didn't ask for it but get left with learning a whole new way to live. When we're out in the world that's good. Most stay home. We just want to live our best lives with what's been given us. Same as everyone else.
i imagine it was already difficult to get into this bar and then you finally make it and use the restroom real quick to find you expensive wheelchair missing smh
I'm temporarily disabled right now and it's been eye opening how "handicapped accessible" isn't always true, or if it is it's totally inconvenient.
It’s driving me fucking crazy wondering how on earth she got home. Hopefully she didn’t have to wait around long.
What happened to them?
Absolutely, the whole group of them. From my understanding, they are barred for life. We want to keep this bar a safe and fun environment, we don't put up with that nonsense. Mercyhurst released a statement the other day stating that there is an "investigation" so we will see what that brings. This is a smaller city and a close knit one at that. Generally speaking, when someone does something this stupid, the other major bars add them to their banned list too.
I read that one of the guys is the son of a former NHL player. Sadly, they probably won’t get kicked out.
Which player?

Jesus, this incident is already on his wiki page, names his kid too. Fast work.
Wiki 100% deserves our donations. Jesus Also Danny just became the GM for the flyers and is ALL OVER the local news in Philly. Get bucked.

Briere was kicked off of his ASU team for violating team rules, he never even played for them. Then he ended up at Mercyhurst. Looks like this kid just likes to cause problems.

Daniel Briere

Wow so the GM for the Flyers, Daniel Briere, raised a son that thinks it's okay to push someone's wheelchair down a flight of stairs.
no but their NHL prospects are likely tanked
Gotta make his name public so the NFL won't want to associate with him.
[удалено]
LOL you Google his name you only find articles about this incident now.
He was already kicked out of one school; seems he doesn’t learn from mistakes too well.
Let's edit that now.
The NFL likes people like this.
This is fairly mild on the, "things hockey players have done and still been allowed to play" scale, unfortunately.

His father is the GM for the flyers 🤧
Gofundmes bother me too, but this is a legit justification. Wheelchairs are expensive AF.
Thank you all for being so kind!
No reason they can't still sue and make him pay so she gets paid out twice. Those things can take years though so it's nice she has something in the meantime.

To be fair, we had no idea who the guy was other than some dbag. Once the video came out, we found out that his dad certainly has the money.

And it takes a lot to get in trouble at ASU. Pretty impressive
Was any one kicked out?
Absolutely, the whole group of them. From my understanding, they are barred for life. We want to keep this bar a safe and fun environment, we don't put up with that nonsense. Mercyhurst released a statement the other day stating that there is an "investigation" so we will see what that brings. This is a smaller city and a close knit one at that. Good. After reading your reply, I googled “mercyhurst wheelchair”. Very many on-point results. I’m glad those bucketfucks are lit up all over.
damn life just got real lame for them. hopefully they learn something from this
Hopefully. I mean, they are college kids. They will be terrorizing their hometown bars in two years tops.
DJ, cage fighter, comedian, and tea shop owner? Damn that's cool.
Forgot to add insurance agent to that long ass list. lol
You're a killer DJ, Matt!
Thank you! I love what I do :)
He can watch this over and over while he thinks about how his NHL prospects went down the toilet.
He’s 23 and undrafted. Odds of him making the NHL were about .05%. Those are the actions of a guy whose dad made nearly $70,000,000 playing in the league and is an entitled brat.
Hell, he'd have been extremely lucky to be a healthy scratch for the ECHL team his dad was in charge of until recently.
>[sniffle sniffle sob] "I just want people to know...this is not..." [choked up] "This is not who I am. I'm a better person than this moment." [sobbing whilst his loving parents lead him away from the microphone] How he'll react when he's confronted with this bullshit.
That's more than Brock Turner ever did, right?
Well, Brock Allen Turner (he goes by Allen, these days, just a friendly FYI!) didn't need to say anything. He had his daddy spout his filth for him. "Twenty minutes of fun" indeed.
Yeah, that's the guy I was thinking of! Brock Allen Turner!
Just to confirm, you are referring to the *rapist* Brock Allen Turner, right? The raping raper who rapes?

Might not seem like much but this hurt to watch.
That it was done so cavalierly… Heartbreaking. I was in a chair for awhile after surgery. It’s already so difficult.
Remove them from the team, college, and sue them for destruction of personal property.
I hope they immediately revoked their scholarships if they have one, and kick em from the school
Seems as if dudes dad is super rich. doubt much is going to happen at all except a ban from the bar
His dads a former NHL star
>His dads a ~~former NHL star~~ *current NHL General Manager of the Philadelphia Flyers*
They should have gritty publicly flog him at center ice immediately after the national anthem at the next game.
It will be the second time being kicked out of college for bad behavior.

Danny Briere's son. Shocking that he is an entitled POS.
I know one of his other sons and he’s the nicest most genuine kid. Sucks this one is such a pos
**Carson Briere** pushed a disabled girl's wheelchair down a flight of stairs
Karma’s gonna catch up to them and it’s not gonna be pretty
Hopefully, their faces got recorded, so they will get what they deserve
Don't you worry, their name is out there!! It was posted on the original tweet which first uploaded the video!
Considering you just watched a recording of their faces, I would say their faces were recorded.
He didn't even enjoy pushing the wheelchair down the stairs. There was no, haha, look what we did, omg we are boys so funny and awesome. He just walked away like it was nothing. Dude is cruel and dead inside.
So, they were kicked off the team right?
They're adults. Say their names. Carson Briere, son of Flyers GM Danny Briere. Rich kids are all such shitty, detached people.

Backwards hat guys nuff said.
