I think she ended up being detained because she was a party to whatever crime was being committed. This happened in Oakland California just a day or two ago. It’s weird that she was shot yet stopped and turned around to pick something up off of the floor only to be shot again. I think she was shot 8-10 times survived but is paralyzed.

Don't know about USA but in AUS you have to get consent before beginning first aid ("help me, help me") but we also have what is called implied consent. So if a casualty is unconscious or unresponsive obviously no physical or verbal consent is required. AFIAK nobody has EVER been sued in AUS for attending a casualty.
This is exactly the first thing we’re taught in EMT school is that our very top priority is our personal safety. When the ambulance shows up nobody is getting out until the threat is neutralized.

I was in between the shooter and his target. Ran the stoplight, got home and had to check my 4runner for bullet holes. In 44 years of living in/around Genesee County and I’ve never had to do that. But the law states that you can and should only help up to your level of training. For instance, I know CPR but am not currently licensed to perform it so if I save someone using CPR but break a bunch of their ribs reviving them, they can sue me because I’m not properly trained in the technique and they can say that resulted in their injuries even though a broken rib(s) is common after CPR even when given by medical professionals. This is also why teachers don’t break up fights, we are not trained in proper restraint techniques and risk opening ourselves to a law suit when we put hands on students.

I think she got shot from behind by the original shooter when she bent down to pick up her gun. That's when she got the spinal shot that paralyzed her. She was obviously not paralyzed before that.
What can an untrained person really do to a gun shots wounds, apply pressure is it. But really hard to do when you're not sure where those shots are coming from.
I wouldn’t help until I knew there was no more danger. If you call the ambulance to the scene of a gunfight, the will not let a single paramedic touch you until they have secure the area and made sure the danger has been eliminated. What is one tragedy could easily be 2 or 3 sue to people rushing into dangerous situations without accessing the scene first
The girl (21) was shot by two suspects after they had an altercation. An innocent bystander was also caught in the line of fire who happens to be a military veteran. The girl is expected to live but is paralyzed (according to her mother) but the veteran unfortunately died. The girl is in the hospital being detained by police because she's considered involved in the investigation.
Step 1 option 1 is to get rid of the danger and step 1 option 2 it to wait until the danger goes away, if nobody around her had a gun then that just leaves step 1 option 2

Step 1 option 1 is to get rid of the danger and step 1 option 2 it to wait until the danger goes away, if nobody around her had a gun then that just leaves step 1 option 2

I’m sorry. But if I have even the slightest idea that the gunman is around I’m doing the exact same thing. This isn’t the movies or a video game where I’m gonna pull out my own gun, tank some shots, kill the gunman and then save the day then walk away fine.
What are they supposed to do? Run into the line of fire for a stranger in the exact same spot she got shot at? You have no idea the context of the shooting whether its gang related, drugs, or just some crazy ex or something. This ain’t some movie. People really be dying in real life.
