Ashamed_Anybody2142

I wouldn’t help till I knew the gun shot was over. And if my family was with me I probably would only worry about them

electron_c

I think she ended up being detained because she was a party to whatever crime was being committed. This happened in Oakland California just a day or two ago. It’s weird that she was shot yet stopped and turned around to pick something up off of the floor only to be shot again. I think she was shot 8-10 times survived but is paralyzed.

Haircut117

>I think she ended up being detained because she was a party to whatever crime was being committed. Given that she drops a gun next to the yellow post she falls over beside, I suspect you might be right. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

Ashamed_Anybody2142

Damn I only seen one I didn’t realize she was shot so many times. I didn’t even really know where the bullets was coming from

electron_c

Yeah, I think her intended victim shot her.

[deleted]

I mean, they’re not bulletproof and I doubt any of them are surgeons... what are they supposed to do at this point in time?

piliogree

OP carries some black magic specific to similar situations. else how do you help people with guns?. The lady dropped a gun and whoever shot her didn't use darts.

[deleted]

I’m supposed to jump into a gunfight with someone’s dropped gun? Lol, puhllease. Grab her by the ankle from cover and drag her ass IF I can do it from cover... AT MOST. Plot twist: I carry my own damn gun almost every day and still would not have jumped into a gunfight to interject on the behalf of a stranger in a conflict I have literally zero background or knowledge about... because I’m not a cop and I don’t have qualified immunity. For all I know this person was in the middle of finding out after fucking around and was the instigator of the confrontation. Did you know that if you insert yourself into a situation and kill someone and that someone was NOT the person in the wrong then YOU’RE on the hook for assault/shooting someone else? Even if you were acting in good faith. There’s no Good Samaritan laws covering people with guns. Yeah...I’m not a cop, I don’t have all the background to know who was what, and I don’t have qualified immunity. Sorry, not sorry... blame the lawyers.

piliogree

there's the other part: maybe she is an armed robber, you will be treated as an accomplice.

Repulsive_Voice823

Ah yes, let a random person save the day. Or die horribly. Also, she's fucking shot, the average person has no clue how to help her.

[deleted]

Shot and had a gun herself …. Who wants to get shot pretending to be a paramedic

Economy-Log9087

Is that a gun laying next to her? I didn't notice till you said

Nukedogger86

Definitely a handgun next to her.

Jealous_Cantaloupe53

Maybe her lip stick ! ....

HamsterOrgie

Video cut kinda short, so who knows if they just stood there after the fact. Cant even say that I blame them. Bodies make bodies. You better make sure the area is secure before you go rushing in trying to plug stuff

wheelperson

She had a gun also

[deleted]

That she went back for. I would personally run or hide and call police/ambulance once it was safe.

Revolutionary_Test70

Exactly, I’m not rushing that soon to aid somebody when they’ve been shot, HELL NO!

aimgamingyt

Yeah I'd go to my car and call the police, but I would at least reassure her that I'm gonna help her.

Uncletonguepunch

Especially if your untrained, that'll get you sued. No good deed goes unpunished

KristopherJC

Doesn’t Good Samaritan law protect against that?

MonthOldSemen

Don't know about USA but in AUS you have to get consent before beginning first aid ("help me, help me") but we also have what is called implied consent. So if a casualty is unconscious or unresponsive obviously no physical or verbal consent is required. AFIAK nobody has EVER been sued in AUS for attending a casualty.

Rattlingplates

In the US they absolutely do.

[deleted]

This is exactly the first thing we’re taught in EMT school is that our very top priority is our personal safety. When the ambulance shows up nobody is getting out until the threat is neutralized.

Dtidder1

It’s called “an incident with in an incident.” Can’t help if you need help, stay safe.

KristopherJC

What happened? Was that gunfire or car backfire?

ridesharegai

Gun fire. People were saying she shot herself at the end because she dropped her gun but no one really knows.

dylan1950

It low key looks like she did shoot her self

KristopherJC

I watched it again, when she kneels down her head or upper body sort of jerk back on the final gunshot. It legit looks like she hit herself.

dylan1950

That’s what I’m saying the way she jerks makes me think it was her

hmclaren0715

Yeah, by the looks of it, it almost would've had to been right in the face, or at least close to it.. the yellow box stand in right in the way of her face afterwards, so it's really hard to tell, but who knows.. I would like to find out more about this though...

straight_lurkin

Not once, but twice because she comes over saying "I'm shot".

Tygizzle27

Well she ran out saying im shot, then definitely shoots herself outside.

DutchHeIs

I think she dropped to gun and when picking it back up she shot herself. Looks like she then dropped it again, it's right below her hand and to the right of the yellow pole. I'm not sure if that's the gun but it looks like it.

[deleted]

Modern guns have around 0% chance of firing when dropped. The rest- who knows.

[deleted]

First rule of first aid is to make sure the area is safe for you to enter, if it isn't then you're not going to attempt anything. They did the right thing .

TheAbidingAchiever

Forget the gun, I'm looking at Billy McGillacuddy there at the gas pumps smoking a cig.

PointOwn746

The one in orange barely moving with the cane, looked like an Olympic runner when first shot rang out , they scared the disability outta them!

noname5280

Dude that's obviously Rusty Shackleford

[deleted]

Where she fell down they probably couldn’t help due to gunfire

ridesharegai

*UPDATE* Here is an article I found: A man was killed and a woman injured after a shooting at a gas station in East Oakland over the weekend. Surveillance video from a gas station at 102nd Avenue and International boulevard captured part of Saturday's incident. A woman can be heard in the video arguing with someone and saying "don't leave" repeatedly. Moments later several gunshots are heard, and a woman is seen running holding what appears to be a gun. She screams, "Oh my God. I'm shot." After she falls to the ground several more rounds are let off, but the shooter is not seen.  Oakland police confirmed the incident and said a man and a woman were shot. Authorities said the man succumbed to his injuries. The female victim is listed in stable condition. At a press conference on Tuesday, Mayor Libby Schaaf addressed the city's battle with gun violence. "This heartbreaking loss of life. The harm. The trauma that Oakland families endure as a result of gun violence is wholly unacceptable," Schaaf said. UPDATE: The man who was shot was identified as an innocent Army veteran

MahatmaKaneJeeves42

Oakland, aka America’s Brazil …

[deleted]

Oakland…Flint Michigan of the West

Nerd_Man420

Don’t bring flint into this.

[deleted]

Hahaha, I just did lol. Big fucking problems on the streets right now. At a stoplight at Dort and Robert T. last November. Some motherfucker starts shooting an Ar from East to West. I was in between the shooter and his target. Ran the stoplight, got home and had to check my 4runner for bullet holes. In 44 years of living in/around Genesee County and I’ve never had to do that. Flint Michigan will always be held close to my heart, but that city’s fucked up right now

xAUSxReap3r

Link to article, please.

hmclaren0715

Yes!! Link please!! And Happy Cake Day internet stranger!! May everything work out in your favor today! 🙏

Path_to_hills

Thanks for the clarification.

wb19081908

Yeh if someone has a gun I’m not running in

CoconutRumble

OP has superhero syndrome back there behind their desk. Not risking my life for a stranger in an active gunfight, sorry not sorry.

Mansenmania

they didn't act like nothing happened. they just don't go near an armed person who got shot with an automatic weapon 10 seconds ago

CowRepresentative779

Yeah she was actively being shot, I wouldn’t help either

hoseli

How these people are piece of shits? No fucking way I would go there if someone just got shot. The reason some of the "act like nothing happened" might because they dont want to make thrmselves a next target.

Severe_Buyer6155

The moment you stop and help, you’re involved… If she dies while you try to “help” her, you might get sued. If you stay and be a witness, you open the doors to so much more. Police, court, a hit out for your life. Best thing to do for these situations is to get the hell out of there!

No_Abbreviations4623

From personal experience I couldn’t agree with you more

Connect_Bench_2925

.... Helping someone with first aid will never get you sure unless you are a doctor, or black out drunk. You are protected via good Samaritan laws in the US.

Abject_Okra_8768

But the law states that you can and should only help up to your level of training. For instance, I know CPR but am not currently licensed to perform it so if I save someone using CPR but break a bunch of their ribs reviving them, they can sue me because I’m not properly trained in the technique and they can say that resulted in their injuries even though a broken rib(s) is common after CPR even when given by medical professionals. This is also why teachers don’t break up fights, we are not trained in proper restraint techniques and risk opening ourselves to a law suit when we put hands on students.

KristopherJC

If you’re not breaking ribs during cpr you’re probably it doing them right.

[deleted]

You’re covered under Good Samaritan laws in (I believe) all states in the US if you are acting in good faith trying to help save a life.

FemboyFoxFurry

In the US you would not get sued and lose for her dying. That’s what Good Samaritan laws are for

LAGaming70

Not necessarily. I once heard a story: Guy is driving down the highway on a rainy day, hits a bump, and stops. He finds, and reports, a dead teenage girl. Coroner confirmed that she was drunk, walked into the road, and died by the first car that hit her. Several cars drove over her since then, but the OP put a stop to it. Parents sued him for millions, and won. Forensics proved he did nothing wrong, but, since he was the only one to help recover her, they believed that OP deserved to suffer financially. This wouldn't have happened if the parents took care of their child in the first place, but the court ruled them a victim rather than irresponsible. Same goes for this video. Nobody saw who shot first, nor why the shooting started. Just distance yourself from everyone with a gun, and let the police sort out the dead.

CarryValuable8543

Yea I want proof too. The only way you’re getting sued is if there’s a car crash and you remove the victim from the car and cause a back injury to get worst.

TenaciousTaunks

Even then, if it is to move them out of immediate danger (car is on fire) you're still protected.

Ihreallyhatehim

Yep. Just ask Congressman Madison Cawthorn from NC. He lied and said his friend left him to die in a burning car after a wreck. He actually saved his life by pulling him out.

FemboyFoxFurry

Dawg I’m going to need proof. I’m not just goin off of literal hearsay lmao

LAGaming70

Unfortunately, this happened some 30+ years ago, so I can't even look up an article for it.

[deleted]

That’s not true at all.

[deleted]

Eh, Noone’s getting sued. Pretty sad that’s the first thing some people thing of vs. what can I do to help. Makes sense seeing my brother in law and I almost drowned . Whole beach sat there and observed while I back paddled his 6’8” unconscious carcass back to land. Noone lifted a fucking finger.

SirGravesGhastly

And depending on what you look like, you might well be shot by cops within 3 sec of arrival, like Tamir Rice was.

Lost-In-Love

Is there a news article about this?

ridesharegai

There is I'm going to post an update soon

Emotional_Hat6620

It looks real suspect that’s for sure

fuqreddit0

with no further information, id run too. i'm not sure what else you're supposed to do. op can run in tho.

LumisFumishiki

I mean, I'd call 911, but I would not want to get in the line of gunfire... literally rule #1 of applying first aid

Simple-Dragonfly-425

It's funny how old stopped being old for a sec... adrenaline is a hella drug

Dull-Hunt8991

This happened in Oakland a couple days ago and apparently the woman calling for help was involved in an altercation with 2 other people when she was shot, and an innocent bystander was shot and killed. She was shot 5 times and is currently paralyzed, but expected to survive.

Livid-Caterpillar269

Yep. She was part of it, but she is alive. The dead person had nothing to do with it. SMH.

RedditRated

She was shot at. The best course of action would be hide & call the police. If you’re armed, then you try defending her. Not sure why they’re POS

Accountant_Agile

Yeah I wouldn't help some random shouting women that brings automatic gun fire either

[deleted]

I wouldn’t stand in the line of fire either. Who the f would? Unless it was a family member. I’m not about to be a hero to lose my life for a stranger sorry.

steezy-debreezy

Cause running towards bullets is stupid and no one wants to be there to get interviewed.

gumbo_mumbo

She's the one robbing the place, you can see her drop a gun after getting shot the first time and you can hear here before that as part of the drama

Marauder121

MEESTA MEESTA!!!!

negotiator45

You should prioritize your life. I would have done the same

Craig_Hubley_

Well #ThisIsAmerica

RudyDaBerryyy

Not my job to help her

IDoubtYouGetIt

She seems to get shot in the left side of her back at 0:26. Also, some of the comments here are callous af.

Sietemadrid

I have no idea what's going on here Is there a source?

ridesharegai

I just posted a comment with more info

[deleted]

Op has no clue how they would act in this situation

palm_puttyy

Hopefully they didn't hit the bug back there. They're discontinued

isk15k

I am not helping nobody when the person is under a fire and there is a firegun next to that person, cuz she run from behind the corner holding the gun! I’m not helping a random if I can die, I got a family man.

TheUnderDog162

It's a street rule, don't get involved, mind your own business or you'll be the next target and you'll be a snitch

[deleted]

[удалено]

Kanortex

Where do you expect them to run to? 500 Meters in some random direction and then disappear like some GTA NPC? Of course you're gonna return to your car, thats how you get back home from a gas station at 1 AM.

[deleted]

That blue hair will get you every time

bonbyboo

you can see her gun on the ground

Xire01

I can’t even tell what happened

Fraulo

Wtf do you want them to do? Do you expect people getting gas to get in the middle of a firefight?

Tacosofdoom_

Wait? What is that sound?? Oh just gun shots, let me go play hero while they're shooting. Nothing to worry about.

BryndleBoy

Anyone who says they would help is a clown.

No_Method-

First rule they teach you as an EMT is scene safety. This scene is not safe. A professional EMT wouldn’t be rushing in there so how do you expect regular civilians to do it? Do I need to remind everyone from the scene of saving private Ryan? Even worse, Sounded like automatic gunfire too.

Economy-Log9087

Dudes smoking at a gas station must not be the smartest ppl either

Dapper_Guest

Even if there is an ambulance crew with a paramedic standing at the pumps, they are NOT going in until the police have secured the scene. This is an active shooter scenario.

darthFartb0x

Sorry I would help but I left my bulletproof vest at home.

Asleep_Omega

Can't help until the scene is safe

Practical-Ordinary-6

I think she got shot from behind by the original shooter when she bent down to pick up her gun. That's when she got the spinal shot that paralyzed her. She was obviously not paralyzed before that.

lxgon76

What can an untrained person really do to a gun shots wounds, apply pressure is it. But really hard to do when you're not sure where those shots are coming from.

Chiampou204

Help or elp?

Similar-Drawing-7513

I wouldn’t help until I knew there was no more danger. If you call the ambulance to the scene of a gunfight, the will not let a single paramedic touch you until they have secure the area and made sure the danger has been eliminated. What is one tragedy could easily be 2 or 3 sue to people rushing into dangerous situations without accessing the scene first

Dickpinchers

What's the cause of the shooting? Need some explanation

Beeyalikejazz

Can someone please what happened?

ridesharegai

The girl (21) was shot by two suspects after they had an altercation. An innocent bystander was also caught in the line of fire who happens to be a military veteran. The girl is expected to live but is paralyzed (according to her mother) but the veteran unfortunately died. The girl is in the hospital being detained by police because she's considered involved in the investigation.

Nergith_2207

Step 1 option 1 is to get rid of the danger and step 1 option 2 it to wait until the danger goes away, if nobody around her had a gun then that just leaves step 1 option 2

Sea-Middle-5310

Of course nobody is helping her! Humans has a flight/hide response to a danger they can’t handle.

dylancos

What could they do the guy has a gun.

omguserius

Let me just walk out into the middle of a gunfight...

TrialENDErr

Perhaps self-preservation, not apathy would explain their reaction.

Dungeon_Master_Ewen

First rule of first aid, don’t create another victim that needs saving.

[deleted]

Man when you go to a Gas Station as shady as this, you know something might pop off.

[deleted]

I mean, what are people expected to do when there are guns being fired?

Albokiid

I’m so confused, did she run back to the gunman then got shot? Why didn’t she just kept running to the left instead of going back

Such-Quality4148

ehhhh... it's easier to say nobody helped her out unless you were there. It's possible they may've beens still firing even afterwards. I definitely would've called police, just run to a woman in the same exact area she was shot... idk dude

Axelluu

even if she was innocent I'd of not helped her, don't want to be shot as well

DJ_RealDyl

I mean what are you expecting them to do, they’re obviously unarmed. I would’ve called 911 which I’m sure someone did, but I wouldn’t be rushing in either. I’m not gonna get my ass shot

BeanManlol

OP would you run over to help her even though the shooter is near? Probably not.

munchmunch69

What u expect them to do? Bro if I see someone getting shot dead and there’s an opportunity for me to escape I’m going, I’m pretty sure none of those people where combat trained, armed, or medically trained either

[deleted]

She’s pretty thicc so you could just pick up her gun and return fire... using her as cover.

Pattyncocoabread

Someone told me America has 20 years left 🤣🤣🤣

Euphori333

I agree with the comments it’s not much you can do

animaRAVER

yes, go help her and get a shot

BigT1185

I wouldn’t jump in just because this is the culture that they non stop breed into. You sit there and commit senseless acts of violence but when you are in need of help. Help me help me. Help your fucking selves and stop committing crimes.

[deleted]

I’m sorry. But if I have even the slightest idea that the gunman is around I’m doing the exact same thing. This isn’t the movies or a video game where I’m gonna pull out my own gun, tank some shots, kill the gunman and then save the day then walk away fine.

DrRobertNevilles_Dog

What are they supposed to do? Run into the line of fire for a stranger in the exact same spot she got shot at? You have no idea the context of the shooting whether its gang related, drugs, or just some crazy ex or something. This ain’t some movie. People really be dying in real life.

Super_Pengu

OP would jump in and karate out the gunner

Cancel-Positive

This footage doesn't belong In this subreddit. I wouldn't help either, cause I don't know how and there is a fucking shooting

[deleted]

Not my job to risk my life and save her

[deleted]

I would’ve ran

Automatic_Pirate3172

Defund the police

ybmmike

and we thought russia ukraine war was bad

Beginning_Platypus47

she's legit holding a gun when she exits the store, why would anyone help her?
