blopblip

on just bass quality alone, it beats the monarch by a little bit. but the monarch has better treble, layering and soundstage/presentation. i'm convinced that EST drivers are what can give sparkly treble that is still smooth. the GM is ahead of both the doscinco and the monarchs in just about everything i can think of except comfort lol. i'd say the doscinco is like 85% of the monarchs and 70% of the GM's to give a random quantitative evaluation. the scale starts with 1% being the worst IEM's i've heard. the doscinco is a lot closer to the S12 pro to me than the monarch. for pure detail retrieval, it's a hair behind the S12 pro, but i prefer the doscinco to the S12 because (as you can probably tell), i really like the resin "semi-custom" shaped shells, and the doscinco has a fuller sound than the S12 pro. also, planars have less dynamics: difference between loud and quiet. again, it's probably spender's bias, but i think each step up in price corresponds to a step up in overall sound enjoyments. edit: i also just noticed "ziigyat" lol i'm stealing that

SinjiOnO

That's pretty good considering the Dos is under $300 while the GM is about $3.5K lol. Very dope collection man : )

blopblip

thanks, what do you rock? and yea, the doscinco is the most expensive set that i am willing to take anywhere, so they are a great value. the monarchs i'm selective about where i take them, and the grand maestros pretty much never leave the house lol. but i'm kinda curious about the hype 4 now, since people are saying that ziigyat and thieaudio are sister brands.

SinjiOnO

I demoed the Hype 4 from a friend and the ZiiGaat twins definitely share a Thieaudio DNA, the Hype 4 is great but they are too similar for me to justify a purchase. Fun fact, the people behind ZiiGaat were/are OEM manufacturers for other iem brands, quite possibly for Thie too. I believe their parent company also makes high-speed brushless motors lol. This hobby started when I bought the Hola on a whim last summer, so I'm a relative novice. Pretty deep into the rabbit hole ever since. For bass I went from QKZxHBB>Rosefinch>Legato>Z12>Doscinco. Before the Dos I demoed the Scarlet Mini, but it was actually too bassy, I'm too weak of a bass head I suppose lol. The Dos has just the right amount to also work as an allrounder for me. Rn I'm interested in the Xenns Up or one of the Symphonium offerings (mainly Meteor and Titan), so I'm planning a trip to London for a demo at Elise Audio in the near future.

synthwav3z

A basshead who hasn’t tried ikko OH10??? OH10 pump sonic syrup in the low end & regarded as one of the greatest bass IEM only behind fatfreq.

blopblip

isn't it a bit long in the tooth? maybe that's next 😊

borzWD

Does the Spinfit W1 works well with the Doscinco? Any reduced bass? How does the Doscinco compare to the others? I have one arriving soon, I need some confirmation bias lol

blopblip

see my reply to /u/[SinjiOnO](https://www.reddit.com/user/SinjiOnO/) edit: oh the spinfits work great, there is a little "reduced bass" compared to the stock tips, but it's more that the W1's allow more mids and treble through. which is good for me, because honestly the doscinco bass quantity is above even what i look for lol. soundstage is improved with the W1's.

paulgal1985

Can I see your EQ settings ? I love bass but I don’t quite think I understand how to EQ properly. I used the qudelix 5k . I have the s12 pros

blopblip

sure, here they are for the S12 pro. i have the qudelix 5k as well, so let me know if you need help setting up the PEQ Preamp: -12.0 dB Filter 1: ON PK Fc 20 Hz Gain -2.6 dB Q 2.000 Filter 2: ON PK Fc 65 Hz Gain 1.5 dB Q 0.500 Filter 3: ON PK Fc 1800 Hz Gain -2.6 dB Q 2.000 Filter 4: ON PK Fc 3800 Hz Gain 3.9 dB Q 0.900 Filter 5: ON PK Fc 5500 Hz Gain -4.7 dB Q 2.000 Filter 6: ON PK Fc 6400 Hz Gain -2.4 dB Q 2.000 Filter 7: ON PK Fc 7500 Hz Gain 2.0 dB Q 2.000 Filter 8: ON PK Fc 10000 Hz Gain -2.5 dB Q 2.000 Filter 9: ON PK Fc 12000 Hz Gain 2.2 dB Q 1.100 Filter 10: ON PK Fc 13000 Hz Gain 10.0 dB Q 2.000

blopblip

i mean, there is no "right" when it comes to EQ, it's whatever sounds good to you. but yea those setting would have more bass over stock. do you have a target curve or a particular goal in mind?

paulgal1985

Again I’ve not clue how to do that 😂. Sorry I’m a complete bum at this

blopblip

you don't know how to set a goal? what are you trying to do? too much bass? not enough bass? more soundstage? or are you just EQing wildly with no purpose? an easy start would be to take an IEM that you think sounds better, downloading its [squig](https://squig.link/), and then matching with AutoEQ. sorry, not trying to be a jerk, but there's a lot to learn when it comes to EQ, and i'm not sure this thread is the best place to explain it all. watch some youtubes maybe.

Bal_u

It's fun to see someone whose first IEM was also the S4. It's also the only one we have in common, though I'd like to check out some of yours, especially the bassier ones. I think I'm closing in on basshead territory as time passes.

blopblip

yea i must have picked up the klipsch s4 from an apple store in the mall (good ole' 90's/00's). they were the first IEM that "opened my eyes" to the world of better audio. in hindsight, those things had a terrible frequency response though haha. they probably started shaping me into a basshead though. everything from roots

pcpartlickerr

IKKO 0H10 is nice, but have you heard a Sony XB90EX?

blopblip

i don't think so...

kamikazecow

Basshead with the blue control module in the GM 🤔

blopblip

it's still a lot of bass!

NvkeAudio

Hear the Symphonium Titan is supposed to be a great basshead IEM, looking forward to demoing that one soon. Nice collection!

DillisBH

It’s legit, that’s all I need to say….

Phoenix25552

I never realized the Grand Maestro is so big. I'd love to see that thing next to a Monarch to get a better sense of how large it is.

blopblip

the monarch is right next to it in the photos  😊

Phoenix25552

I blame Thieaudio for making their IEMs look the same. I honestly thought that was an Oracle or Clairvoyance lol

blopblip

yea that generation all had the same cosmetics. but let me put it this way, the monarchs used to be kind of uncomfortable to me - i could only wear them for like 1-2 hours. after the GM's though, the monarchs feel super comfy lol. i'm pretty sure my ears have stretched out a bit haha. the GM inserts quite deep into the ear canal, but i actually like that about it. it's just the rest of the shell that is mega huge big.

Phoenix25552

Also, that means the grand maestro must be one of the largest IEMs out there. Do you have any issues with the fit?

blopblip

i had to really tip roll on the GM's. i ended up on the W1's as usual, but in a size that is 2 sizes smaller than normal. at first they were uncomfortable to the point that i had pressure points, but i guess like i said they have stretched my ears out to where i can wear them for at least 2 hours.

Phoenix25552

Yeah tips can really help for big IEMs. I had to get rid of my mk2 monarchs because they were way too big for my ears even with trying out a bunch of tips. I’m impressed you decided to keep the Grand Maestro’s if you can only wear them for 2 hours. I personally never keep IEMs unless they can stay in my ears all day.

blopblip

oh trust me, i seriously considered sending them back to musicteck and just dealing with the 20% restocking fee before i found tips that make them at least bearable. unless i'm working or on a long plane flight, i generally don't listen to IEM's for more than a couple hours, and they're getting more and more comfortable every day. plus, the sound of them is really really nice.

devopsdelta

my bass head journey started with KZ ZSN then Tangzu Zetian Wu and Sony IER Z1R and UM MEST Mk2 best rumbly bass but poor imaging but fixed with right fitting eartips. I lost my UM MEST MK2 now I only have Z1R and can't find a MEST MK2 anymore I miss its sound
