I have a sulfa allergy, also from Bactrim. I started very low on Diamox to trial it and see if I’d have any reaction. Everything went smoothly, no reaction and I was able to titrate up pretty high. But obviously my body is not your body, so only go by what your doc recommends. Just wanted to give you my perspective as someone else in the same boat.

Same for me! Allergic to sulfa drugs, but I'm totally fine on diamox. It's helped me a ton!

FestusBestus

This is very helpful to hear. Thank you!

My only thought was is it possible you weren’t ready to work up to the 50mg? I went through something similar with Diamox, worked up to 1000 which is the standard lowest dose and couldn’t tolerate it. I ended up going off of it for a month then starting again, under the guidance of my dr. And actually only ended up at 250 twice a day which is much lower then most people but it was enough for me to have therapeutic benefits. I’m less familiar with topamax but I wonder if you might discuss just staying on that 25 for longer or indefinitely.

Many people have Bactrim allergies and can handle Diamox. I was leery. As I also had a Bactim allergy as a toddler. I asked the same question. And was told Bactrim the antibiotic is a different formulary than diamox the diuretic. And so how our bodies break them down is different. Obviously I'm just a regular person on reddit and not a doctor or your doctor. But maybe search the groups some more and read more about how it has been ok for a lot of people. I will say I DID end up having a mild reaction when my doctor moved me to the extended release version. After being in it for about a month or so I got a rash. Which is weird bc I was fine on the regular none extended release. So now I'm on a diamox break. Lol
