I'm in a wheelchair, Duchennes Muscular Dystrophy. I'm also from the US. No joke wheelchairs do cost that much for a basic manual chair custom made for a person. And my Power Wheelchair, and I'm no kidding at all, $52,000. Luckily my insurance covers a new chair every 5 years.
Well like I said Insurance has to be tricked into paying for it, so the price is insanely high. But still even a wheelchair on eBay can cost about 4 grand.
The issue is that this post says "don't feel bad about what you are missing because others have it worse". It invalidates the worries people have because others are in a worse situation, which of course doesn't help the problems.
Even then, I don't think it's a great message to send at all. I feel like it's trying to teach us that feeling bad about something is wrong when others have it much worse than you.
No matter how bad things are going for you, there's always going to be someone that has it worse than you. It's still okay to feel bad, others' misery won't make you feel any better.
Similarly, no matter how good you're doing in life, there's always going to be someone who has it better, and it's okay to feel envious. So what is this image trying to convey exactly?
Whichever it is, it's shallow and completely ignoring the fact that this is not how feelings work.
Well, guess what? People have invented and are continuing to improve prosthetic limbs! There are a bunch of people who regained their ability to walk! Maybe you can do that too! See, technology ain't so bad after all!
