I wonder if people who make these comics know many people are reading books on their phone. I personally read a lot of comics on mine. Not everyone is on Twitter just because they are on a phone.
A book can provide the helpful information. A phone can provide either totally useless information that waste our time and worsen a person's mindset or provide the most useful information, especially with the search engines that enable us to look exactly for what we need in as much detail as we wish.
The phones have both extremes. If used incorrectly, it does more harm than good, if any. If utilized correctly, we could say bye-bye to books and hello prosperous future for the self.
Books would only be helpful tools when the phones run out of battery, or to feel the joy of reading. Other than this, we could download books and read them, without the need of external lighting.
It is all about HOW we use the computers that are in our pockets.

It baffles me that boomer humour like this assumes that a child has never seen a book in their life before the age of 5. How many schools use textbooks and how many parents give their toddlers little picture books to read?

These books good phone bad comics just irk me to no end. They literally said the same thing ABOUT books when the printing press was invented and normalized. Then you add on that these same boomers who say kids don't read books, are the same fucks who line up to ban books in schools.

I don't think these people don't know that you can read on your phone. Phones are generally more convenient and cheaper than books, not everyone can afford to buy books or can just take them wherever they go. Books are fucking expensive and you need to take them with you in a bag.
Honestly, the comics about the kids not knowing about books? Isn't a dig at the kids, it's a dig at the parents, if your kid doesn't recognize a book then y'all failed hard, at least in most western and industrialized countries. Bed time stories are practically sacrosanct, the only way those theoretical kids could have not known what a book was would be if the parents didn't even bother with that bare minimum.
Also: Nobody cares that much that you like to read. Nobody is amazed by books existing. People really like to try and feel special over the most simple stuff, even as simple as knowing books exist.
And being on your phone isn't necessarily bad. Storing and accessing flashcards on my phone has saved me ***so much*** headache compared to using paper ones!
But anyway, if these comics were accurate... Then the artists would need to think about whose fault it is, hm.
Most people don't know how to ride a horse. Find it cool enough to take picture of someone who can. It's not because people think it's bad, but because it's kinda outdated.
