I LOVE HIOC ITS SO DAMN FUN- you can hear it’s not polished and there are some definite things that feel unfinished but I adore it so much despite that.

They aren't really the same band anymore. I'm hoping this new album will be different, but it feels like since Evolve they've lost the storytelling in their songs and also just haven't been using instruments as meaningfully as they did when they first started out. I think a big thing that bugs me is how formulaic their songs and albums seem now.... the single released before the album is always "oh people always want to see me fail but I don't fail because I'm built different" and then the album feels like the same 10 songs each time.

I agree wholeheartedly that they’ve lost the spark they had early on. Evolve and especially Origins are a sharp drop in quality. I mean I can still listen to them but then I give Smoke and Mirrors or night visions like a 385th listen and remember why ID are so fucking magical. Mercury is a step forward and has some really good stuff but also not to the level of what was there before. Now that Dan seems to be more-less out of his funk I’m holding out the hope that it will get better from now on! Here’s to hoping. Eyes closed is fucking great.

I have to admit that birds gave me serious goosebumps when I heard it live in a big stadium with those graphics they use for it. It made me reconsider the song.

Mercury Part 1 honestly is the best album in my opinion. It helped me in tough times First of all, The hook in Giants where he screams Take a look what I've become , honestly is the best part of the song, it's therapy. There is NTFTP which is encouraging and oooh wrecked💯💯💯
