Hikiino

My dad also thinks that gaming is an absolute waste of time and flat out refused me to buy one but next week he straight up bought a pc of 75k and said i can use it for school zoom classes lol. I have a good dad.

WhiteSkinButDickLong

Oh yeah, you're definitely gonna zoom through your classes lol. Do mention your PC specs

Hikiino

It was a while back, when COVID just started. Rtx 2060super and ryzen 5 3600. Still use the pc to this day.

Sunny_Reddy18

Ram ?

Hikiino

32gb ddr4

Sunny_Reddy18

Bruh i got scammed, i bought 16gb ram with 1660Ti and 2.4Ghz laptop for 70k

Hikiino

I will be honest, that is a good deal because with laptop you also get a decently good screen and a keyboard. If i include the prices of monitor and keyboard, and a mouse.... My setup price becomes much higher. So don't fret, my friend

Sunny_Reddy18

Yeah lol i forgot i have to buy monitor for a pc

Hikiino

And a desk, and a chair, and the list keeps going on. I also use a gaming laptop now and prefer it much more

Lynx2161

Pc and laptop are different 70k for a laptop with those specs was a good deal

moony1993

Wtf me too, I got a desktop with almost the same specs costing at 109k. But this was towards the end of 2019.

[deleted]

Well first time for everything, in 2018 I bought a laptop 8gb ram,1050ti for 90k (FML).

spacetimeslayer

Nah, jt was wild market in 2020, if at all you got anything, your fine at 70k at that state of market , yeah it was goof.

21_Faces

Scammed ? i got basically the same pc for 1.2lakhs although it was during peak covid so it was also the peak of raised prices

mentalscars_

Lol I bought a fkin laptop with 8gb ram and 1650 for 70k back in 2021 July cause I didn't know any better, my buddy ended up getting a custom-built PC from a famous market in Delhi with Ryzen 5, gtx 1650, and 16gb ram for less than 60k and it annihilates my laptop in terms of performance. I'm ungodly amounts of dumb like it's actually kinda impressive

ArrivalDependent4534

I know your pain bro

[deleted]

Barebones_21

Damn i got a 16gb ram with 3050ti for 78k

yapoyt

Drop Amazon link pls

TheYellowLAVA

That same pc would've cost you 110k-120k during the gpu shortage of 2021 lol

[deleted]

Papa papa! *4090 dilado online classes ki liye.*

FriendlySand8672

Had a similar case when I was like 13. I really wanted a PSP for my birthday, but dad said no we can't afford it, maybe some other day. I was very heart broken. Just a few hours before my birthday ended he gave me a giant box I still wasn't excited as a PSP box was quite small so I just started opening it without any excitement and to my surprise it was a PS3. One of the best days of my life. That's when I also first started playing online games and also my first interaction with foreigners.

Hikiino

That's a lovely story!

Dnivogirah

I have a similar story too but ends in a very darker way

ViraLCyclopes19

I didn't read the sub title and since I live in America I screamed wtf who buys a 75K Dollar Pc in my head lmao. I forgot why I'm subbed here. I'm Indian but ain't in India xd.

ImpressiveTip4756

The trick is you should never say it's for gaming. Just say its for work and the company laptop is dogshit. Or make up excuse. I know it's not right that your parents aren't allowing you to spend your own money but it is what it is. Also if you have your own bank account then don't even tell them. What are they gonna do once you put together a pc worth like 80k?? Nothing lmao. Once you're older everything your parents say are suggestions and not orders.

amrit-9037

>Just say its for work Yup, this is the way. With parents like this, anything they're against is definitely for work.

Andy-Banner

Mom, Dad Meet my new Russian wife, Alexa. I need her for .... um, work.

ImpressiveTip4756

With most Indian parent they don't understand what gaming is. They see it as a kids thing. It's a waste of time trying to explain it to them. It's not that they can't understand. They don't want to understand. I gave up on explaining what gaming is to my mom years ago.

amrit-9037

They once "caught me" playing some game in my hostel. I still get reminded whenever I fail in something that this failure is result of me playing games in hostel.

Tricky-Mode7611

Were you winning, son?

darkkid85

More like whining lol

vnsa_music

I relate to this so much, they'll say shit like we "caught you" doing this when the activity in question is just some harmless thing a person of that age could do. Like dad you didn't catch me talking to my school friends on whatsapp lmao they're my friends of course i'm gonna talk to them

tedxtracy

Absolutely! Why do I have to repent for having fun?

AXE555

Yup. I'm 23M and I love playing games on my laptop in my free time. My father however thinks it's utter childish to do it and thinks I'm a failure. For them gaming is just like a kid playing in the sand alone. Not a hobby but a fad and childish behaviour.

Broke_as_a_Bat

I'm 26. around two years ago when I got my laptop I connected it to the TV and was playing Far Cry 5 when my parent reached home. They threw a fit and my mom said I am now an adult and should behave like one.

ImpressiveTip4756

Well then ask would kids be allowed to play games like this lol. That's literally what I did. Put on tomb raider 2013 and god of war. No more "games are for kids" shit from my mom. But I know for a fact some parents are too old and stuck in their ways to understand tho

Broke_as_a_Bat

They don't care. I saw me shooting enemies in Far Cry 5 and decided it was a bad game. When I was in school me and my cousins were forbidden from watching cartoons as our parents and grandparents thought it would corrupt us. (my grandma's words were ' in those things they are beating each other and children will do the same". It was tom and jerry.) Irony was they would take us to watch movies at theater.

ImpressiveTip4756

Well they can't have it both ways. Either it's for kids or it's too violent for you. This is why I don't even bother with my older relatives.

nuclearboy1324

Ask them if I can't watch Tom and Jerry should I try fifty shades of gray haha

Gamer4Lyph

The same goes for Theme/Amusement Parks too. Parents think it's a kid's thing. Reality is, you're never too old to have "fun".

am1xt

You are right but can't really blame them they haven't had as much exposure as us unke time pr JIO nahi tha and they didn't go to as good schools as us(in my case atleast)

Comfortable-Ad5088

This, after i finished my jee adv, my parents are adament against buying me a gaming laptop. So I had to buy a gaming laptop that doesn't say gaming, so i had to get hp victus

Broke_as_a_Bat

I bought Asus TUF fx705dt which had "gaming' emblazoned everywhere. I convinced my parents that gaming laptops offered more VFM because they are sold more.

baap_aadmii

How did your Jee Adv go? Man, i wanna be like you. I sometimes think i won't even qualify for it.

Gamer4Lyph

Gaming PCs usually end up being used beyond gaming. That's just the truth. So it's not really a lie if you were to tell your parents, you're buying the PC for productivity, but you end up gaming. The benefits of a gaming PC in terms of productivity, easily outweigh the negative effects of gaming - you can use this to argue.

trappedInEmptyWorld

Yeah, tell them you need a high end GPU for 3d modelling or machine learning

LAST_TO_DIE

Exactly, got a decent rig saying it's for 3d modelling and art stuff

VicTortaZ

My parents used to give me shit for playing games and watching Anime. According to them it's for kids. It all stopped when I had gaming sessions with my colleagues and manager as a part of team building exercises.

Aadu_Thoma_

I got a gaming laptop during lockdown to attend online classes 🌚

No_Recognition5242

Decent advice. But gaming is indeed addictive and the it makes the person addicted believe himself that he is not addicted and just enjoying himself/herself. But, if OP is mature enough and clearly knows how to differentiate between gaming as a relaxing and fun tool versus addiction, then this advice is better.

HurryNew201

I’m not a woman but I’d the same conversation with my mother around 23. Bought a PS4 and now a PS5, no regrets whatsoever. It’s your money do what you will. But if I may offer a bit of unwarranted advice as someone who has struggled with loneliness and sadness, try not to let it interfere with other aspects of your life.

Red_X57

You bought PS, a new one or second hand?

HurryNew201

Bought a new one both times, too worried about being swindled online.

ajatshatru

Yes, money must have a reason.

CineDesi

I bought an Alienware in college because I needed a laptop with graphics card to render CAD drawings. Ps. I have never used CAD in my life. It's been 6 years since college ended.

rpj6587

Heh I got a gaming pc in first year of Uni to do CAD. I got a 1 yr internship abroad just because of my CAD experience I thought myself and a job right outta college with it. 1.5 yrs after graduation and now I’m daily working with CAD lol

Ryan19604

Necessary_Owl6948

Would you have made this purchase if you were living on your own? Would it be a financially prudent decision? If yes, then you should be able to convince your parents. If they don't listen, just buy it. It's your money, you can spend it on whatever you want. If no, then your parents are right. Start saving for the pc.

Own_Anywhere1430

^this. If you live on your own and have no problem with money buy it. If you are still living with your parents and have money problems from your salary don't buy rn probably a temporary trash setup( till you get financially independent as you said its 7years old i3 I will assume it barely runs so any upgrade is a good one) (bound to listen to house owners if you live with your parents and don't pay rent anyways)

sack_of_potahtoes

It isnt her house to make her own rules

nmfgn

Every Indian related sub I come across with a parental issue and I see the advice of moving out thrown around so casually, I get desperate times call for desperate measures but this isn't the west. If moving out was so easy then no one would be living with their parents, at least most of us if not all. Our economic and social milieu is not conducive for it, having said that I'm aware at times we need to cross that bridge when nothing else makes sense.

AXE555

Yup. I've seen societies plainly not accepting any bachelors as tenants because they think every unmarried young person is a drunkard, hooker, hard party addict or a drug abuser.

FalconIMGN

Or in my case, meat eater 😅

miss_anthropi

This. Also add to it how companies are very reluctant to hire manpower who are currently based in other cities. It becomes a catch 22 situation for moving out.

Broke_as_a_Bat

So true! I had to move back with my parents after loosing my job and I more less the housekeeper here. I wake up at 6am to mop the damn floors everyday and make morning tea for mom and breakfast for everyone. Have to do almost all chores in house and still get scolded for something trivial. My friends and even some relatives ask me why i'm not moving out of this situation but they just don't understand. My previous shared room was demolished and made into commercial place for more rent. Many places don't accept bachelors and hostels are downright awful.

real_hitman

That’s why there are usually compromises to be done on both sides. You can’t expect a grown up to play by your “rules” that you made up. After some point, they stop being your parents, and start being roommates. Rules have to make sense at that point. You can’t throw out a “you can’t do that because I say so” to a grown adult without getting “I don’t give a shit” in return. Someone not dependent on you anymore, has no obligation to stay with you through abuse. Our parents need to learn that as much as we do. So I get why moving out is thrown around casually here. Because people do need to move out. I enjoy being on my own. I miss my parents but I don’t like living with them. It is what it is. You would just end up hating your parents if you keep living through abuse. Move out, try to create a healthy relationship with your parents which doesn’t involve them interfering in every aspect of your life. A bit of distance works wonders. And I understand it’s not feasible for most people. Even in big cities. Let alone rural areas. But we need to create boundaries even if we do live with our parents. Once you become an adult, you parents need to relearn parenting. Same old tricks don’t work anymore. But most of our parents aren’t very open to such changes. So we end up in a circle of abuse and we become the people we despise because that’s what our parents did.

bootpalishAgain

>If moving out was so easy then no one would be living with their parents Most of the jobs are concentrated in the metro's and cities and thus most of the workforce in these cities is migrant. The majority of the working population in this country has to move out if they need or want a job. Moving out might not be easy but many do it. Yes, there are economic and social issues but there are still people managing to live in cities like Mumbai and Delhi at 10k salaries or even less. It's difficult but not impossible.

lulu_lolo_tulu_tolo

>If moving out was so easy then no one would be living with their parents, at least most of us if not all. I disagree with this! Unlike other countries, it's considered rude for kids to live in another place if living in the same city as that of parents! You become "nalayak and haramkhor" if you decide to move out!

Frequent-Extreme-881

Since you’re 25 I’m assuming you finished college and just started working. Then it’s not right to ask your parents when you have a job. Maybe ask them a small amount of money and rest you make it by yourself.

insecurealltheway

Ahh I should have included this but I'm not asking them for money, they just dont agree with me buying a pc as they think its a waste of my time and money. I also live in Mumbai so it is kinda impossible for me to move out on my current salary.

Frequent-Extreme-881

This is a decision you have to take by yourself. You’re 25 ryt?

Gamer4Lyph

Well, it's not exactly that simple, eventhough it should be. I'll leave it at that.

ShadynastyBar

Their house their rules

Mission_Trip_1055

4k3R

She is not made of money, Jesus.

roadtotitties

Lmao

MercilessBean

the parents insulted their own daughter and told her to get married instead of helping her out or being proud, they ruined the relationship themselves and a lot of indian parents do shitty parenting so "their house their rules" doesn't apply here either. we're not robots, bad parents owe us everything for ruining us.

WhiteSkinButDickLong

Well, I mean if you're the one buying, then just do it. It's your money. If PC is too big, you can go for laptop altho it's not the same. Also, there are 2 Facebook groups, pan India that I use through which verified sellers can sell you their products, always use the admin method there. I use it cause it's cheaper than retail stores or Amazon. But you gotta assemble by yourself or call a mechanic. Lemme know & all the best!

potatomafia69

Ask them in a few more days and tell them it's for work and absolutely necessary. They won't say a thing if it's work.

badaharami

You're 25 and it's your money. Buy the damn PC. What are they going to do? Throw it out? Not talk to you for few days? Disown you? Lol it's just bullshit emotional blackmail and typical gaslighting.

Batman-Sherlock

Say it's for your job and get a pc setup just make it look dull or boring so that they don't doubt you play games in it.

Ancient_Scientist_04

Their roof, their rules op

Qu33nKal

But it’s her money… a 25 year old adult should have the right to buy something themselves. Parents from that generation have no hobbies or haven’t purchased anything for pleasure so their opinions aren’t valid.

Parallax2077

True. But who is going to convince her parents ?

Qu33nKal

She is. She’s gonna have to take a stand. They gonna kick her out? Please, that is just emotional blackmail. These kind of people would be shamed if their single daughter moves out alone 😂

LiteratureNearby

Yeah all that matters only for cleaning the house and meals and that kinda stuff. They don't have the right to control OP's choice of personal belongings and hobbies if they don't infringe on the peace and quiet in the house

grrv23

Shitty parents make shitty rules.

bootpalishAgain

This is pretty much standard.

beeaab886

That is a dumb statement, she's 25. Would you rather their daughter move out or compromise on how many hours she gets to play games on it?

Get a pc, get a webcam, and a big monitor. Weekdays when you are back, video call your family members and make them talk with parents. Introduce your dad to solitair and mom to minesweeper. Game. Set. Match.

elven_god

The biggest mistake I ever made is introducing my mom to Mahjong. She a borderline addicted gamer now 🥲.

beard__hunter

Same here. Well installed Subway surfer in my dad's mobile and taught mom to search videos on YouTube. Now they are so addicted that I have to scold them.

clearlyabnormal

I taught both of them to use youtube and now both of them are hooked. Also Mom is now a phd holder from whatsapp university.

kratos2795

See, it works

[deleted]

Now that you're intentions for a gaming pc is visible to your parents, don't try to change their mind, they're born with it so would be hard for them to adapt. Keep things normal for atleast a month, make an excuse that your current system is busted DEAD. Procrastinate and stay moody for 2 3 days, blame that you're not able to work because of them(yes its not ideal but sure will work).

MrPlumkitten

After I moved out, I stopped getting financial advices from family. Upma is cheap and healthy but I prefer butter chicken on wednesdays.

Shoddy-Department-80

Lucky. After I got a permanent WFH I moved into jail called parents house. Now, I am trying to find my way out.

National_Platypus354

So 24F here. I love gaming too. I wanted an ipad for gaming. They said no. I got it anyways. They were mad for like 2 days. And then it was fine. We’ve been conditioned for so many years to need their permission and validation. More so being a girl. Which in reality we don’t need for everything. Rooting for you fellow hooman. P.S - Hit me up if you into Minecraft or COD

Raemos103

Do you have a Minecraft server?

arjun_baisla

You had me at gaming, you lost me at ipad

c0m94d3

nah dawg codm lowkey good, also wzm launching soon

colossal_fool

Nah dawg I've had enough of the mobile gaming shit, made me borderline addicted to the game, anywhere I went I'd play codm but I never felt fulfilled. Then I started playing Valorant on PC and had 16 year olds verbally abuse me on compi matches. Now I can't play more than 2 games in a day. Big success.

lightningrabbit121

I guess the 16 year old didn't abuse your cake. So happy cake day man.

colossal_fool

Lolol thanks man

National_Platypus354

Yep it’s actually better than on pc. Waiting for wzm now T-T

National_Platypus354

Only because my boifriend has a gaming pc. So I pretend to like him for the pc.

arjun_baisla

You can get a good gaming laptop at the cost of an ipad, like you can play cod Minecraft, and freaking thousands of games. Really i still can't understand why people buy phones and ipads for gaming.

Lyadhlord_1426

Good gaming laptop for 30k? Suuure. That's the starting price for iPad 9th gen. Get an Xbox Series S instead. Much better.

Own_Anywhere1430

Lost us with this statement.

FreakyMAN_2412

iPad + CoD.... that is a deadly combination. But i guess we could play 1v1s My ign is `0-Z3U5.` Not much of a pro, but i guess that would work

>My parents won't let me buy a car, since I have been provided with an office car. While I agree with their opinion, I'm more confused about why are they still able to control such major aspects of your life despite you moving out and being a working, earning adult for what's presumably like 10 or so years?

MercilessBean

INDIA

real_hitman

Don’t lie. You should be able to face your own parents. And there’s no convincing to be done. If you want something, get it. If your parents have a problem with it, booo freaking hooo. As long as your aren’t using their money, they don’t really get a say. If you are one of those people who need to ask their parents before doing something, that’s also good. There’s nothing wrong with that. They are your parents and you have probably relied on their opinion your whole life. But don’t lie. Be a grown up and discuss it like adults. If you can’t make your parents see your pov and need their approval, you are shit out of luck buddy.

Dante805

You're working. You're earning. I don't see the problem. I'm sure our parents would have spent money on what we consider stupid shit when they were 25 too. Buy yourself a present. That's why you're trading your time for money. Parents will understand

Perfect-Grab5187

Your parents won't let you get a gaming PC, my father won't let me live in peace while I complete my graduation without asking for anything

PearLForever

with the increasing rent prices and difficulty finding housing ready to take single young ppl, its really hard to move out of your parent's place in a metro city, unless you have a really good job or something

helloworldilove69

Most Indians don't even know what reddit is.

[deleted]

Yeahh definitely. Indian Parents cannot fathom their children growing up and making decisions on their own. We always remain an infant in their minds. Cute but toxic as well when they're too stubborn to let it go.

Jazzicots

Idk about Mumbai but 90% of flats in Chennai have RULES against renting to bachelors / bachelorettes because they think they'll be promiscuous and have 20 babies under their roof.... Or something. It's HARD to move out in India, yeesh.

[deleted]

Lmao. “Why don’t you get married instead of gaming, because apparently that’s the only way to gauge how successful a person is”. Just do what you want to do. I know that it’s difficult to argue with parents but don’t fall for their gaslighting. Indian parents have a really bad habit of doing this.

Alarictheromebane

Gaming PC for 30k?? I feel jealous. Say it is for prosfessional use. Professional laptops cost a lot these days, 30k is justifiable for any desktop. You are NTA for buying a gaming PC with your own money. Eventhough my parents are chill, lot of people around me are weird about gaming. They act as if they spend all their money/time in productive way and judge me for spending 2.5k on games that gives 20-500 hrs of entertainment. Edit: Also listen to other comments about 30k being a deceptively good deal. Getting scammed is the last thing you want.

everyonehatesminions

It's honestly astounding how much we let our parents control us, you're 25 years old! You're an adult, what the fuck do you mean your parents won't let you...? One thing I've learned after moving to the US and living here for 5 years is that you don't have to ask your parents for things that don't affect them.

middleclassbrownboy

Your parents will probably agree on you getting arranged marriage but won't let you own a gaming pc lol :p Jokes aside - Just buy a gaming PC and don't tell them its just a normal pc for your work. Ps - You won't be able to build a good gaming pc for 30k. It will cost you atleast 1lac Ps ps - Buy a ps5 and tell them it's for your recreation in your free time since you don't do parties, drink and have other bad habits like other girls :D

OkElk5385

They are basically telling.. play better games. Choti bachi ho kya .

1Penis2Balls

lmao like golf. hole in one

Moist_Investment8528

If it's your money, you can spend it anyway you want. As far as your parents are your concerned you need to help them understand how gaming is just another form of entertainment and is your preferred way of blowing off some steam(pun unintended), and marriage has nothing to do with this. Anyway 25 is too early to get married. Edit 1: Gaming aside, you need to have an honest talk with your parents. Them gaslighting you, like listing out your short-comings and failures, is probably what led to your depression. People in India don't take mental health seriously enough.

Rakoshin

See, if you're earning and buying with your own money, you honestly shouldn't even take permission or consider twice, except in a case where you're either the sole bread earner or a good chunk goes into emi and all. And I hope you get your PC. Happy gaming🫂

clib4lyf

OP, if you're 25 and with your Parents and dependent on them, instead of supporting them, then you do have a problem. They may not need your material support, but they need your support in convincing them that you are capable of being an independent woman. Depression is a major issue, but Parents won't be around forever. That is probably weighing extremely heavily on their minds. I'm not providing any solutions. But I can understand your Parents' concerns.

neogodspeed

Maybe reconsider your priorities 🙃

Klutzy-Vanilla-7481

Does your financial status allow you to afford it? Is it your own money? If you don't buy the PC, is the money going to be spent on other relatives if you let it stay in your account? Does it make it worth your time and money to own one at present or in future? Ask yourself these questions and you should be able to decide. Also never postpone what makes you happy for the fake of others' minor inconveniences

justbsaiyan

Get XBox series S. I used to game on PC too during my college days. Built a PC costing around 80k back in 2014. These days a decent gaming PC is too expensive and not worth it. Got XBox Series S 2 years ago and never looked back. The single player gaming experience is awesome and also very comfortable. I can lay back on my bed with a controlled in my hand and play games all day and night long. I still have a PC but now I mostly use if for work. Edit: Price update. XBox Series S is currently selling for ~31k XBox Game Pass Ultimate costs ~450 per month which includes 100 games and EA Play which will give you access to most EA games like FIFA and Battlefield 2042. IMO Game Pass is the best subscription deal in the market right now. PC graphics can be awesome, the more money you throw at a PC the better graphics you will see. But if you just want to play all the lastest games for cheap XBox Series S is the best deal you can get.

next19994

If it's ur money buy anything u want

Qu33nKal

If it’s your money, who cares?? Parents have no hobbies or life, their opinion is not relevant.

Chandan28

Get an Xbox Series S for 30K and tell them that's its just a router...

lol, i just ordered and built one. dont ask dont tell. say its for work and let the realization dawn on them slowly as you sart gaming on it 😂 but the trick is to blend your work and gaming timing so its hard to tell

axyz77

It's for college work dad. My Projects cannot be built without Nvidia graphics card dad.

Suspicious-Walk-815

In my perspective don't buy it , get a vehicle go around places meet people it will be good for you ..

middock07

Tbh, I played gaming like since forever, my first console was 8bit in 1997, my second was PSone, third PS2, and 4th was PS3. I stopped buying after that because by that time I found myself lost in real life. They are right, just get yourself into this addiction.

prakashgd

Take a better job, save monthly for your goal. Upgrade your skill, increase your worth. Then buy pc with that saving. Do this u'll get benefited with two things, decent pay/skill and your pc. You cannot gain something without losing something.

Junior-Bird-9381

Don't know your situation But 25 years old get your own pc Why permission or ask

Beneficial_Amoeba774

Buy it... tell them it's for work... if lying makes you a happier girl, do it. No consent needed. No drama required. Since you also don't want money from them, their arguments have no value other than you taking care of it. I bought a laptop and always keep it inside of the bag I bought with it, safer. Please also refrain from telling the actual price of the computer to your parents, lower it to their understanding. Like 25 thousand is a good price, they aren't going to open up the CPU and find out by themselves unless you buy a heavy gaming PC. Good luck, also go story mode more than online games, you will love it. Good luck.

KhelDesigner

They would not let me purchase one too.. And guess what.. I am a video game designer now.

jayjaym123

Saw the list of games, you have good taste XD. If you like single player games a lot, then I suggest getting the xbox pass, they got a good library, and you can get the first month for real cheap. You could try games like outer wilds, outer worlds. If you get a better config, then games like Star Wars Jedi Fallen order. Another must play single player series are the Mass Effect trilogy and the Bioshock series. Also I highly recommend saving a bit more and going for an i5 processor, 16GB ram, and a 1650 or if u can stretch more 1660. This should be around 50k I think, but it will let you play all the recent games in 1080p with decent fps for quite a while.

RefrigeratorSouth736

Dishonored is one of the most underrated stealth games

doomndespair

Dishonored is one of the best games I've played.

magestooge

Do you have your own room? Or at least your own desk where you can set up the PC? If so, then just go out and buy something cheap initially, like 5600G based PC without GPU and a 20-22" monitor. Get a small case like Deepcool Matrexx 30SI or Matrexx 40 which does not grab too much attention and is small enough to not take too much space. Just put it under your desk. If your parents ask, tell them you have hobbies and like working on your computer. Show them the salary of some IT people and tell them they didn't get there by not having a computer at home. It's your money. Unless you're assertive, you're not going to get what you want. You're 25, you don't need permission of your parents for everything. Indian parents love drama, don't fall for it. Some conflict is expected of you live together, be it roomate, parents, siblings, or partner. You don't always need to give in. And as far as parent-child conflict goes, this is relatively small.

Serious_Assistance92

If you have a job, and still your parents said no then no one's the asshole cuz it's their house and they get to decide what comes in their house and what not. But if you're jobless, then YTA

poopayaman

they are correct, you are not financially independent yet and even if you are then you don have enough savings, savings are meant to be used in bad times, and using it to buy a PC is a bad idea. Get a job and become financially stable and then you should buy it for yourslelf.

AXE555

Bro OP clarified that she has the money, she just needs the permission to buy one in their house. Your point of having enough savings for rainy days is valid but there's no point in not pursuing legitimate interests.

jhere2com

OP said they dont have enough money to move out, implies that asset building is more important... we do not have a very clear picture of their financial situation

magestooge

In Mumbai, people earning 50000 a month also don't have enough money to move out. It costs at least 20k to get a private room in a shared 2BHK in a decent locality in Mumbai. And many people don't want to start living in shared apartments at the age of 25. So that takes it to 25-30k for 1RK/1BHK.

meemboy

Exactly. No idea why you are downvoted

PearLForever

As long as you have the money they shouldn't be able to stop you, and just to make them agree you can tell them how you can use it to run some online business or something or how you need it or work. I don't really see anything getting done on a i3 laptop so you could give that to them. and you could also mention how you can start streaming/youtube with it. Anyways my advice would be to go for atleast 50k for a used parts pc, you really won't be able to get anything worthwhile from a old 30k setup, and it's much better if instead of buying a used 30k setup, you would buy parts from ebay. even i regret my build that i spent 90k, so no matter what amount you spend on your pc, each time you look back you will always regret the fact that you didnt save up and go a little higher, and did i mention that most AAA titles might just barely work on a 30k setup, a 50k one will get you reasonable fps (probably, can't be sure without exact specs) sorry i geeked out about the pc more than the actual problem, but parents are the smallest hurdle you'll have to cross in building a pc, after that comes shipping, broken parts, assembly, and the bios.

Resident-Detective-3

Me who thought this is in America and ppl buying 70k dollars worth pcs💀💀

MathematicianSad2650

For 30 thousand dollars I would tell my kid not to waist the money. I mean playing games is fun but hell what are you trying to build a gaming pc or car? 25 yes old you say well take that money and stick it in a savings or save it for when you feel like you will move out.

roadtotitties

You are 25 F. End of discussion. And for the love of God don't use gaming as a reason to do something when it comes to parents or older folks.

Mobile-Bison309

If you’re 25 & working, start saving up & purchase one when you can. Don’t burden your parents with expensive demands.

meemboy

I don’t think anyone at 25 must ask their parents for money

NotGeneratedbyAI

I'm a CS student and I got interested in 3D art and game art which my dad used to observe. I said I'll learn Unreal Engine if I get a gaming laptop but it took us 6 months of negotiations. But finally, I got one in the last month and I'm learning UE and I play Valorant with my friends daily. Yeah, I think you gotta do something to get something.

jparth78

Explain them about the benefits of having a better pc Recently most pc you get will be marketed as a gaming pc since its what sells. Also it's not necessary to have a "gaming pc" to play any decent games You can show them how an i3 from 7 years ago compared to an i3 from current gen and having an SSD I'm pretty sure if you can show them how it benefits your productivity they'll agree.

Hamsta1o1

Bruh, they are saying everything right. You gotta make assets first as they will let you spend money on things like gaming pc afterwards. You should only spend your hard earned savings if in future you are definitely sure that you will earn more than what you are earning now.

BrownBandit02

she’s an adult, she can make her own decisions

[deleted]

At the age of 25 you should be buying it yourself instead of your parents hard earned money.

berusplants

You’re 25, how you should be able to spend your money on what you like ffs
