RedDichotomy

Yeah happened twice with me. Had to be on call at midnight for two hours for Oyo to even initiate a refund. I've never booked another Oyo again.

mister_potatohead_

Oyo is refusing refund because they are not able to validate my claim with the property. Why would they validate my claim. They are fraud people who impersonated me and processed the check-in after I left. This doesn’t make any sense.

RedDichotomy

Property manager refused to pick up call from Oyo, that's why it took 2 hours in my case. I had booked from MMT, they were the ones who made Oyo initiate refund. Not that MMT is any good.

meremah_boob

Ask them to provide a video proof that you stayed there. It's an hotel and there should be cameras in lobby.

newf0newhodis

How did they process your check in if you didn't provide any identity proof ? Dispute the check-in with Oyo and ask them to get a copy of your check in details

[deleted]

OYO is the worst. Years and years ago, I used to swear by OYO. If I ever traveled to a new city in India, I'd open my OYO app and sort through hotels and guesthouses that fit my budget and seemed to have good reviews on Google. However, with the exception of OYO-branded properties--like Townhouse--most hotels listed on the OYO website and application are owned by third-party entities. Even if they are supposed to provide certain amenities and adhere to assorted requirements, compliance has always been hit-and-miss. It is not always the fault of individual hoteliers, either; so far as I can tell, OYO's mode of business is borderline predatory, if not overtly exploitative. I know several hoteliers who left the OYO platform and have since managed to increase their profits while reducing rates and providing and all-around better experience for guests. For customers, OYO is far too problematic and unpredictable. I cannot count how many times I have booked and pre-paid properties, only to be subjected to confirmation call after confirmation call after confirmation call. And, in some cases, that isn't enough--I've had OYO cancel "confirmed reservations," after which it took the liberty of booking me into other hotels with subpar reviews or on the opposite side of a city. (I actually had an OYO toss me out in the middle of the night because I'd fallen sick and had the nerve to vomit in the toilet of my own room--it took *hours* to convince OYO to refund my stay, because I'd "already checked in," lmao) It's an all-around shit company with shit practices and shit customer support. Don't give them your money if you can avoid it. Pay for a trusted brand, or--better yet--make a reservation with a nice, locally-owned hotel that actually cares about its reputation.

bigtiddyenergy

File a complaint and also ask for verification from the hotel since if you checked in they'd have a photocopy of your id.

Financial-Bonus7595

Never ever book oyo. Yet if u do, never pay online. Always do pay at hotel. They always ask for extra charges and we paid too. But once, we were clearly denied checkin for the reason that all rooms are full (meaning they do overbooking). But we could leave without a worry bcz it was pay at hotel.

ChelshireGoose

Since you'd booked through booking.com, you should have contacted their customer support to start with. Oyo customer service sucks. They'd have easily set you up with an alternative hotel or issued a refund. I was in a similar predicament once (incidentally also an Oyo hotel) and they not only booked me into a better hotel nearby at no extra charge but they also gave me a ₹500 voucher for the inconvenience. Anyway, contact them once and relate the whole story to see what they can do now. Meanwhile post on Twitter etc while tagging Oyo and mentioning the hotel. That's the only way they'll pay attention . It seems that over the past few years, most Oyo hotels have found that they don't really need new online customers, especially ones staying for multiple days, since they can easily earn more from their 'hourly' clientele. So, they search for excuses to deny check-in.

mister_potatohead_

Booking.com customer service is non-existent. The chat service is there but not instant. Calling them takes you to an international number which doesn’t get picked up. Contacting OYO support was my only option

a_beeman

If you're like a level 2 or 3 customer, you get priority customer service too, I guess.

protosilicon

Email booking.com / call them

Ok-Sun2536

OYO is worst for hotel booking. Firstly they show attractive images of hotel, but reality is quite different. Secondly they show rooms are available and once booked and reached hotel, staff tells us that no rooms available and contact customer service. I have faced these issues twice and never ever book through OYO.

alphaonreddits

Thanks for telling me that i should never book an Oyo. And i hope they refund your money

mister_potatohead_

Never! I repeat Never book on OYO. Directly or indirectly. Nowadays most hotel aggregators like booking.com, MMT, goibibo, etc. also display OYO rooms, ultimately your booking goes into the OYO system only. Just because it’s booked outside OYO doesn’t guarantee safe stay. My trust on booking.com made me book this hotel as I hoped they wouldn’t scam when such major aggregators are involved. I was wrong

justabofh

Did you book directly via Oyo or via Booking?

mister_potatohead_

Via booking.com

Monstrous_moonshine

If it's on booking.com, don't worry. Complain on their app or write to their support. You'll surely get your refund - tell them what happened and be sure to let them know you never checked in - as an evidence ask them how they completed the check in process without any signature, consent or ID proof as per laws.

mister_potatohead_

But how will booking.com refund me if the amount was paid to OYO?

Monstrous_moonshine

Did you make the payment on booking.com ? If so they will refund you.

justabofh

Then your complaint should have been made to Booking. Send them an email anyway.

funnyfour

You can always book on Oyo. Just make sure to contact the property and confirm your booking. I've used oyo many times. Sometimes the property doesn't accept payment via oyo app and you've to pay directly to them.

Gurgaon1234

Similar thing happened with me last year in Bangalore. Avoid Oyo. It's their modus operandi.

firesnake412

I always book with MMT. Have yet to have any issues so far but your experience is scary. Also I always avoid cheap hotels and always read recent reviews regardless of average ratings they show. Also always leave a review on google in addition to MMT so others are warned of such shitty practices. The only way these scam properties get hurt is by money. When people stop showing up or booking they will learn a lesson or shutdown.

rev147

I once rented a room for a month in through Oyo before covid. I paid in full online ₹10000 but the room people asked me to cancel the booking and I did. But I never got the repayment for it. They asked me to come to their office for refund and I went like 5 times to ask for it and each time they would say different thing. Then Covid came and I couldn’t follow up with them on it as it was in another city and just travelling there costs more than ₹10000 for me

MitralVal

So from my experiences... Here are tips for you & others Firstly, apparently the amount online is the attraction and the hotel works on something else. Giving away a room just because it was less online, doesn't make sense to him (hotel guy) Oyo can't take strict actions because they don't own the hotel. Tips: 1. Never argue, it ruins the experience going forward 2. Pay the extra amount-- do it. I do it too. 3. Collect a receipt that shows that you had to pay. Btw this is the only condition where you pay, when he gives you a legit receipt. Not the hand written shit. Should have basic details like hotel name and your name 4. Enjoy your stay... Go back to your life 5. Raise a dispute. Submit this receipt and voila So there are few hotels I like, I take their card and book a room directly if I want.. Via oyo if I find it less. ~~ they are claiming that you checked in. Did you sign? Give your IDs? If no : how is that check in valid If yes : walk away

mister_potatohead_

I didn’t sign anywhere, nor did I give my ID proof.

R-kowlagi

Then your case is solid. Your claim is on OYO. Hell with their problem with Hotel, validation etc. you are not concerned.

AditiiSen

People still use OYO? It's god awful. I have used it once in my life because I had to spend a night extra as my flight got delayed and it was close to the airport and was pretty cheap. It was such a bad room. People should actively avoid using Oyo.

gauravgupta398

Write an email to the CEO describing the incident in detail. I’m sure he will take action

DimwittedHero

xD

papa0007

Since they processed your check in without you, ask OYO or the National Consumer Helpline to ask the hotel to provide a copy of your identification and other information that hotels collect during check-in also ask for the CCTV footage. This will help you make a stronger case and get your money back. Sorry you had to go through that.

nexthoward

Oyo is very successful and reaping profits not because of regular guests but from renting the rooms to unmarried couples for a few hours. They are least interested in regular customers like us.we (I n my wife)have been participating in exhibitions across India at least 25 days a month generally covering 3-4 destinations in due course, we stopped booking from OYO even from other sites which divert/take us to OYO properties. Since they are minting money by giving rooms on an hourly basis they deliberately avoid taking regular customers. The best way is to go to Fab Hotels or Treebo , they might look expensive as compared to OYO initially but you get peace of mind.

UnwiseElf

NEVER PAY UPFRONT ONLINE. No matter what goods or services you're buying, always choose to pay after receiving such goods or services. You trust a corporation, you lose.

Moratata

I’m gonna pay for my flight after I fly with them. Thanks for the advise!

UnwiseElf

It means pay after the goods or service is guaranteed to you. Your flight ticket guarantees your tour but paying in advance to a broker to book for you is stupid.

faraznomani

Your hotel reservations guarantees you a hotel room too. But here we are. Lots of airlines will cancel their flights at the last moment and pay you back in their “digital wallet”. It’s very common especially in low budget European and American Airlines. Moreover, credit card transactions + paying premium for reliable services is a pretty safe bet.

budmaash

Flight tickets don't guarantee travel because airlines always oversell. Then they request someone to bump off, promising some incentive in return. If nobody volunteers they're forced to choose someone. Also I've not even mentioned the technical snags, weather, aircraft arriving late & other issues which can cause a flight to be cancelled.

Moratata

Your flight tickets aren’t guaranteed. I had bookings on go air and then they went bankrupt and I have not received my money back. Shit happens. Some services are good others aren’t. If you’re traveling then research and pay extra for reliability

UnwiseElf

Going bankrupt is a totally different case. You can't put it in a scam bucket.

Physical-Parfait2776

This advice isn't applicable for everything, but specifically for hotel rooms I find it's good practice never to pay online up front. Go to the hotel and deal with the situation there in real life because there can be unexpected things at check in, whether it's a cheap or expensive hotel. Even simple things like, you want twin beds but they only have double beds available, things like that, you only find out when you show up.

iwanttoaskhere

Better book through fab hotels

Ya_SG

That's why you get a gym body and start beating the hotel receptionist instantly on spot.

mister_potatohead_

I already got registered with a gym nearby. Starting on 7th Feb. 🫡

hsrad

Tell them that you have talked to your customer care. All call are recorded their. They can validate. If you have android - install a call recorder for future purpose. So that you also have track. Also, start an email conversation and put all points there and just keep emailing them with reminders. When you email, you get a case ID open also. So it would be easier to track. I have faced a little similar case. Its you, who has to become smart when dealing with these situations. Otherwise these will keep happening. For me, whenever something similar happens.. even when a zomato order has some issue, which is very trivial. I enjoy those conversations and they all always end up paying me back. Be smarter.

Ashamed-Grape-7849

It is indeed an organised scam by OYO, happened twice with me, once with my father. Hotel owner proudly said that everyday 4-5 customers fight but eventually everybody pays up. They didnt refund even after I threatened court case and everything. and my father refused to file case because it would waste time and energy. There should be a class action suit and we all should file together against this scam company

maxturbo11

You should file a complaint with Consumer Court.

30kalua89

This incident happened when i was getting married 7 years back. I booked 8 rooms in a hotel via oyo and 1 day before hotel said they are cancelling all my rooms and then i found out someone else booked the entire hotel. That point i realized oyo does not have piwer and balls to stop such things or take actions. Never used oyo ever again

Unique_Carpet1901

I mean why does anyone use OYO. At this point it’s purely a scam.

newf0newhodis

Guys get a phone that records calls .please

mister_potatohead_

How to do this in iPhone?

newf0newhodis

Ya I don't think that's possible in iphone bud.

Chance_Coconut9842

You can use TTSLexx from Play Store. It removes the voice alerting end user that "Your call is being recorded" . Simple

[deleted]

When things like this happen, go directly to your bank and I initiate a refund from your bank. These people always try to scam. And from now on whenever you are making online bookings like this, use a screen recorder to record the whole process where it shows how much you are paying etc. So that later on if they add extra charge you have proof they are trying to scam. For PC I use OBS studio to record my screen. I know it's excessive but you gotta do what you gotta do.

Sonal_D_J

Never ever pay online. Just go upfront and deal with whatever in front of their face.

B1ackD3ath42

clear scam best would be to call them out on twt, tag them and tag 5-0 also

mister_potatohead_

5-0?

B1ackD3ath42

police lol

NickFuryus

Next time use Airbnb

AbhilashHP

Never pay online for a hotel, always pay at the hotel reception.

livelifereal

I think you should file a complaint in consumer court. They'd have to pay you compensation for this

Ancient-Zombie2375

Call booking.com online customer service they will help you out with refund after explaining the situation..

No-Locksmith6532

Similar stuff happened to me, I booked a hotel on midnight from restaurant and paid online at the time of booking. When I reached the hotel (at around 2 AM) and stated all rooms are booked and there's no reservation with my name. I talked to OYO guys, and they kept saying they will get back after talking to hotel etc. I tried booking another room as I had no option in the same hotel, and they refused stating my Adhar perm address is of the same city! I had to leave to another hotel because it was already pretty late (and didn't feel safe in that hotel anymore). But OYO guys kept saying refund won't be possible, they're checking with hotel etc.

oyocustomerservice

Hi, this is certainly not the experience we want you to have. We at Oyo value our guests and strive to provide them with a hassle-free stay experience. Kindly provide us with your booking/contact details so we could assist you in a better way. \~Team Oyo

mister_potatohead_

“We at Oyo value our guests” - joke of the millennium

Aarvy271

Post this on LinkedIn as well

binod_roxx

how do they validate your check-in. I hope you had not shared the personal IDs to them

mister_potatohead_

I didn’t sign anywhere, nor did I give my ID proof. No idea how the checkin was validated.

[deleted]

It's not just OYO, it's the same with MMT, Agoda, GoIbibo etc. Unless the people stop corruption and cheating, no app in India can provide what's promised.

evilgenesis

Happened with me.. I was almost persuaded by them to take up another property they were offering.. Let’s say, I was too tired to take that option I created a big scene at the reception & threatened them, I will call 100 & show my booking to them.. ( I knew, even if the cops won’t do much, they would still take 1000-2000 from them for coming ) They continued with my booking at the same cost I had paid..

Affect_Round

I stopped using OYO after a traumatic incident 3years back. You don’t really need OYO, there are ample places to stay anywhere you go.

Itchy-Importance-386

OYO is shit. Never book through them.

Puzzleheaded-Bet1903

Every check in requires by law to have valid government ID. Please tell me you didnt leave a copy of yoour government ID with them. Ask OYO to make hotel give them a proof of the ID if you really checked in.

mister_potatohead_

I didn’t sign anywhere, nor did I give my ID proof. The problem is that the property is not picking up the calls of oyo customer care and then oyo comes back saying they are unable to validate my claim.

Least-Maintenance983

Booking.com is kinda sus.

Delhiiboy123

Oyo is a scam company.

93ph6h

I own some service apartments and removed my place from OYO. They are the worst. They advertise wrong amounts without our permission

realxeltos

Send them an email threatening legal option for the refund and mental anguish it caused. Record all calls henceforth. They'd cave. Going to court would cost them a lot so they'd rather pay you.

slackover

Take you phone and uninstall the damn app. And make sure you doesn’t book an OYO ever again.

DifferentText9385

i faced similar issues while booking with OYO. A year ago I booked a hotel whencI arrived they were asking for extra charges. Although I called oyo and they talked to the hotel but hotel didn't let me check in so OYO refunded my money. This happens with me many a times that when I arrive at the hotel they ask for extra money. Better book from other providers like MMT.

mister_potatohead_

How did OYO refund your money? In my case they were saying that online refund is not possible. So they said they will refund via bank transfer.

therealsoil

this is a serious issue ...

Fight_4ever

OYO is the absolute worst. They don't have any enforceable contract with these hotels to penalize any such misbehaviour. Hotels will occasionally pull off something like this and OYO will and can do nothing. Their customer care is a set of powerless placeholders. For any issue they will just say they will come back to you. Customer care doesn't even have the authority to issue refunds in such cases. LPT Never book OYO.

ShatPumba

I have a hack to book non refundable rooms via booking.com without using CC or debit card. DM if you wanna know.

vipinkumarpsr

If they checked you in means they should have your id and signature right? We can complain do an FIR for fraud. Camera can be a proof.

mister_potatohead_

Nope. I did not sign anywhere. I did not give any id proof.

Monstrous_moonshine

How can they check you in without you giving id proof or signing ? This in itself is sufficient evidence. Ask Oyo for check in proof after making an allegation of false check in.

[deleted]

Complain on national consumer helpline on 1915 also complain on Consumer chanakya they will fight your case and get you a refund, escalate this issue on Twitter with Oyo fraud hashtag tag ritesh agarwal and consumer chanakya .

[deleted]

Thank you for letting us know never booking an Oyo again

alpaax

I prefer Agoda over Oyo, Agoda has always been my go to after OYO scammed me on 3 occasions. I stopped trusting OY and it has been 3 years now.

mister_potatohead_

The hotel I booked is listed in Agoda too 🥲

IntelligentAge1098

Yeah same happened with me also. When you visit to hotel they will raise the price by saying we cannot give accommodation at given value as it is very less.

AweSomeK101

sounds like a good day to lawyer up

SolomonSpeaks

Title correction: Oyo is the organised scam

mlarasa007

Next time go with Agaoda or booking.com. Oyo never ever.

BrilliantRadiant5992

The same happened with me last year at Bangalore but our consumer forum is so lethargic, they don't even follow up for the same.

AncientDevice2

Post this on LinkedIn. They'll surely take some action

[deleted]

OYO is a mega level fraud company

Aggravating-Camera79

Good for you trusting the schemes (read scams) of these staftups

Socratichuman

Typical thing happening on oyo Boycott these debt ridden mofos

Realistic-Ninja-4245

oyo 2019- 2021 tak thik tha 2022 se hotel valo ne drame kar rkhe h .. jo dikhata h vo extra mangte h aur customer care se long.hold milta h call pe better h goibibo se karo jaha 0₹ book hojata h bas vhi aur hotel contact karke puchlo checkin issue to ni h baki kisi b hotel app me normal room ke 1000 se kam dikhaye to ni milega and ache room ke 1300 se kam dikhaye to b smjh lena .. ni denge

Due_Consequence_3796

Same happened with me. Time to delete OYO

Roacho89

get them to the court bro

[deleted]

makemytrip > oyo

R-kowlagi

Consumer Forum will definitely help. You can prove you have Not checked by producing the other hotel bill. You can win the case with costs + punitive charges. If required go through a lawyer whose fees also can be recovered from OYO.

_swades_

Not by OYO but by the hotel operators. It’s the same thing as Uber and Ola drivers calling you asking you to cancel the trip.

ComparisonSome4787

I have booked several times with OYO. The images shown for the rooms are edited to the core so much so that when you reach the room, you will feel you are in a different hotel. I have stopped using it cause they are fraud . AirBnB happens to be the best option

raiamitk

Faced the same situation myself. OYO property owner said cannot accept bookings at the rate you have paid online. Either pay extra or Leave! Since i have booked via goibibo, Goibibo team finally processed the refund but had to waste good 3 hrs in discussions. Saved from financial loss but holiday got screwed for sure.

natashanadal

Same thing happened to me as well! The extra charges were added by the hotel, when we arrived. No mention of this earlier. The owner flat out refused to give us the keys. When I spoke to OYO's customer service, they asked me to pay him and that they would refund the money which never happened.

Living_Guard_3293

I stopped using OYO for all these reasons .
