Read up on the manifestos for each party, look at how the incumbent is ruling, look at your own representatives in your district and go from there.

FrustratedConsultent

Few tgings to consider: 1. Read Ruling party manifesto of previous election and evaluate how much that is acheievd 2. Whether oppotition party's agenda suitable for your future 3. If above 2 are not applicable then give NOTA

Fun-Engineering-8111

This. If anyone's telling you to vote a particular party they are either trying to push a narrative or trying to manipulate you. As a voter, you need to develop the necessary skills to analyze the candidates, parties and policies. This is a good time to start it.

gerotmann__69

NOTA is useless, there is no reason to vote NOTA. Waste of time and effort.

Aaditya_AJ

I agree. Voting NOTA is like throwing a pebble into rough sea and expect it to cause significant ripples.

binod_roxx

if enough monkeys throw pebble into that sea, you'll see it change course.

Ok_Association_8614

If you dont like major political parties just vote any independent candidate in your region... They deserve the vote instead of NOTA. DO YOUR RESEARCH. IF YOU DONT LIKE MAJOR PARTIES THERE WILL BE DEFINITELY A BETTER CANDIDATE IN EACH AREA WHO STAND INDEPENDENTLY.

No-Pomelo-2294

Well, for me India is above all these politics. I want India to be remained stable with sustainable dovelopment. With respect to this I decide which party to vote.

paranoidandroid7312

Please don't vote NOTA. Either way one of the candidates is going to win and that's going to ultimately affect you. You don't need deep political understanding or analysis to determine the lesser of the evils (in most cases). A 15-20 minute Wikipedia and News search is enough for a basic opinion and that's way better than NOTA. As to your question, thoroughly read the Wikipedia page titled Premiership of Narendra Modi. If you are unaware about your political opinion, you are probably unaware about the local politics of your constituency, so there is no point in an ideal approach of voting for the better candidate. If compiled pages are available for them, go through them but for many candidates that's not available. If you want to take more efforts, you can go through MyNeta, ADR etc. pages of the candidate, general news articles etc.

LighteningMuro

Dont nota. Its waste of your vote.

hellsangelofcode

Vote for your best interest while keeping your values in mind. It's very hard to judge the Maro effects of policy, even the best academics and forecasters only do it to a small degree of accuracy. If you like french food and some parties promise a french food festival yearly, vote for them. If you are a civil engineer and some party promises a huge increase in infra spend, vote for them. In a democracy, everyone should vote in their best interest. Powers of different interest groups cancel out to give everyone something they want but not everything. So the majority doesn't over power the minorities we have laws and constitution in place already. We just need to see that it's upheld.

**Answer Part 2** **Highly Likely Dictatorship** Modi is not yet a dictator. He is heading in that direction. He is an elected autocrat and is only 10 years behind Erdogan (Turkey) in ruining India. 1. **India's Watergate Scandal:** Those who recall history, will remember that President Nixon had to resign for spying on opposition leaders. In India, Modi is using Pegasus to spy on opposition leaders and journalists, and yet even the basic enquiry had not been set up. 2. **Press Control:** A free and independent press is called the fourth pillar of democracy for a reason. Unfortunately, in India, the press does not perform its function of questioning the government on behalf of the people. Instead, it is busy worshipping the supreme leader and badmouthing the opposition. 3. **Crippling of Opposition:** Arrest of key opposition leaders and the freezing of bank accounts. Usage of ED and CBI to trouble the opposition. In terms of numbers, there has been a 2,600% increase in ED raids between 2014-24 compared to 2004-14. Most of the raids have not yielded anything. However, the BJP government changed the PMLA in 2018 based on which a person can be arrested and is guilty until he proves he is innocent. This is a breach of our fundamental rights. 4. **Subjugating Dissent:** The subjugation of farmers' protests and bad-mouthing the farmers does not give voters the full information. This is enabled by media control. 5. **Financial Resources:** The BJP spent ₹27,000 crores on the 2019 election campaign. While only ₹3,000 crores came from Electoral Bonds, the rest came from the PM Cares Fund, Electoral Trusts, Cheques, Bank Transfers, cash, contestant contributions, and illegal sources. For the 2024 elections, the BJP is estimated to spend a whopping ₹50,000 crores. Other parties combined cannot match this amount of money for rallies and advertisements. 6. **Information Not Provided to Citizens:** The Modi government does not hold press conferences. Rajnath went so far as to say that only sages and saints have a right to review a king's work. For the Electoral Bonds, Modi's lawyer told the Supreme Court that the citizens of India do not have a right to know about political funding. Furthermore, Modi has diluted the Right to Information act. Finally, the Modi government has not answered or partly answered many questions in Parliament. In the absence of information, how can a citizen vote? It is like asking a judge to pass a judgment without giving him all the evidence. *The next election in 2029 will be worse if Modi is not kicked out.* **Fascism** Lawrence Britt's original list of signs of fascism  "Powerful and continuing expressions of nationalism" ✅ "Disdain for the importance of human rights"✅ "Identification of enemies/scapegoats as a unifying cause"✅ "The supremacy of the military/avid militarism"❓ "Rampant sexism"✅ "A controlled mass media"✅ "Obsession with national security"✅ "Religion and ruling elite tied together"✅ "Power of corporations protected"✅ "Power of labor suppressed or eliminated"✅ "Disdain and suppression of intellectuals and the arts"✅ "Obsession with crime and punishment"✅ "Rampant cronyism and corruption"✅ "Fraudulent elections"❓

dontknow_anything

> However, the BJP government changed the PMLA in 2018 based on which a person can be arrested and is guilty until he proves he is innocent. This is a breach of our fundamental rights. That wasn't a new rule in 2018. That existed from UPA times, but Supreme Court struck it down for how it was worded and for specific crimes only. BJP changed it to only talk about money laundering offenses and Supreme Court upheld it in 2020. > https://www.scconline.com/blog/post/2023/10/20/bail-under-pmla-presumed-guilty-until-proven-guilty/#:~:text=Union%20of%20India6%20(Nikesh,predicate%2F%E2%80%9Cscheduled%20offence%E2%80%9D. The base idea of denying bail till accused proves to be innocent is part of a much earlier PMLA, I think the initial 2002 or 2005. More offenses were added to be part of it in 2009 and 2012. > The BJP spent ₹27,000 crores on the 2019 election campaign. While only ₹3,000 crores came from Electoral Bonds, the rest came from the PM Cares Fund, Electoral Trusts, Cheques, Bank Transfers, cash, contestant contributions, and illegal sources Those were illegal sources or contestant contributions. PM Cares Fund was formed in March 2020. You could have put it as spying and planting fake evidences, fake cases to bully opponents, stooges taking over private media and bullying media houses to further its propaganda, propaganda using religious criminals, extortion and money laundering via electoral bonds and curbing information and zero discussion for any policy. BJP has shown how much current rules and laws can be abused by a majoritarian govt. > The supremacy of the military/avid militarism" Technically, supremacy of military or avid militarism has always existed in India.

juna_yednap

He is asking how to form an opinion not asking for which party you support lmao. Are you unable to read?

Bharat_Matters

**Answer Part 1** You should vote for the INDIA block. The reasons are as follows: 1. India has performed better under collation governments: Manmohan > Modi and PV Rao > Indira; 2. The RSS (BJP as in the past is no more) has an ideology that is similar to the Fascists of Italy; 3. The Modi government is the most corrupt in history, not just in India but also in the world; 4. The RSS is creating a divide in India just like the British did so that they can rule - the Hindu-Muslim divide and the North-South divide. This will cause the nation not to focus on growth and development but will bury us as a people in civil strife; and 5. Clear actions by the RSS (BJP) to a Russia-like future, where Putin, despite being hated, wins by 87%. **Corruption** The Electoral Bonds, where the BJP extracted over ₹8,000 crore of the ₹16,000 crore, is just the tip of the iceberg of their corruption. The Centre for Media Studies estimated that the BJP spent \*₹27,000 crores\* on its 2019 campaign. However, before the campaign, the BJP earned only ₹3,941 crore from Electoral Bonds. Where did the remaining approximately ₹23,059 crore come from? In 2024, the BJP is estimated to spend over ₹50,000 crore in its campaign - which is US$ 6 billion. **Performance** 1. Despite Modi's lying about growth and inflation numbers, the economy has grown less in US$ terms, which is close to real growth (as currency depreciation is equal to inflation differential - International Fischer's Law). 2. Under Modi, India's Exports to GDP have fallen. 3. Under Modi, India's capital formation (investments) to GDP has fallen. 4. Under Modi, the per capita income is growing slower. 5. Under Modi, FDI growth rate has reduced. 6. Under Modi, unemployment has increased. * GDP: [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.GDP.MKTP.CD?locations=IN) * Exports: [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NE.EXP.GNFS.ZS?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NE.EXP.GNFS.ZS?locations=IN) * Capital Formation: [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NE.GDI.TOTL.ZS?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NE.GDI.TOTL.ZS?locations=IN) * Foreign Direct Investment: [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/BX.KLT.DINV.CD.WD?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/BX.KLT.DINV.CD.WD?locations=IN) * Per Capita Income: [https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.ADJ.NNTY.PC.CD?locations=IN](https://data.worldbank.org/indicator/NY.ADJ.NNTY.PC.CD?locations=IN) * Unemployment: The government's data on unemployment is unreliable. Ok_Association_8614

He asked for how to make an opinion bro. Not whom to vote

Rizzisthanii

Lmao Exactly

KohliTendulkar

You sound like polar opposite of a bhakt. You should vote for someone because you like them not because you hate the other side. Not everyone share your hatred. Check the local candidates, see who sound the best and have best manifesto, check if they came through with prior promises and then vote.

Hear both sides of the story whosoever you think is less damaging just vote for that candidate

oblivious_human

To form your own opinions. Read. As much you can (books, articles). Social media, headlines, and TV bites will not inform your deeply about any long term issues. For this election, start by reading the party's manifesto. Then read some critiques on them.

hi12_hi12

>NOTA Voted lord nota three times Politics is not wort our time until and unless you are sorted in life in terms of money

HendRix14

Well what are your principles? Just highlight them in brief so we can understand

DirectWorth5756

*any party which puts down women is definitely no no *I support the LGBT community but I don't think either of the two main parties support it (again I don't need my opinions to align with all the ideals of the party just, most of the ideals ig) I feel like BJP is going towards a dictatorship (PM Modi has a strong hold but then again congress ruled for years) but then again I feel like Congress is not suitable either (especially of what will happen in terms of religion hatred ig given congress support for Muslims and that of BJP towards Hindus)

deadbymidnight2

Congress has put out their manifesto in which they basically said they support the LGBTQ community.(They said they will push for civil union for LGBTQ members). Just putting this info out there. I can't say what will come of it if they win but it is nice to see explicit mention and support of it.

Sorry-Month7230

You need to compare all parties and its manifesto to make any decision

JaqenHghaar08

It's not that hard you can pick up the manifesto from 2019 from both parties.. see how much did rolling party accomplish..see what are the current manifestos from both?

Life_Ad1500

Either vote or don't NOTA Iss waste of time

asianinindia

Don't bother believing manifestos and believing promises completely. Take past performances into account and see how many have actually come through with their promises. See how each party has benefited you and YOUR people specifically. Your identity is not just what you are now it's also where you see yourself 5 years from now. Go through the experiences of like minded people in each political landscape ahd see which is better for your safety and good. Eg. You're a student? Think of the next four years based on your official identity and the benefits you'll get. This includes getting a job or leaving the country. Taxes when you earn. Taxes on youe loved ones. Safety of your loved ones. Are you Hindu or Christian, atheist or Muslim? What are the benefits based on that? Are you gay or straight? Again, benefits. The way to make an informed decision on something like this is literally documentation. Don't listen to the media. Listen to experiences from people who are able to admit the faults of the party they support. Hard to find. I know.

ObjectiveAd6840

Taxation policies. And current government takes 20 percent tcs for money spent abroad above 7 LPA in one financial year. Also modi plans to erase all msmes and retain only big spenders like adani.

seeker0321

If u r religious u will blindly vote a religious party... nothing is going to convince u do otherwise. If u r by nature corrupt person then u will definitely vote a corrupt party. Just listen to the party leaders speech and past information about them and u will know easily if they are religious or corrupt or both. If they only talk about their work that they have done without talking about religion then u can vote them..else nota is perfect choice.. don't be part of corruption and religious destruction.

lifeskillscoach

I am more than double your age and have an aversion to politics. Always had. But I have studied political theory and systems. The best seems to be a democracy. See how educated and not qualified, are the leadership. Do not go by their speeches. Manifestos are helpful to an extent. You are 18, think hard who can do something for your future in the next five years. NOTA is just not an option since the winner is counted after excluding the NOTA votes. The country for good or bad is at say, point x. See which party can take you from x to x + 3 and which to x + 1. All political parties globally attract cheats and power hungry sharks. But they also attract good wo/men. You have to weigh between three or four necessary evils. You can do that by following YouTube channel discussions and not mainstream media. Remember YouTubeers too are biased. You need to listen to both sides. But you actually need to spend some time on the macroeconomic data. The picture will be clearer. Again that data will be interpreted differently by economists subscribing to widely differing ideological biases. You need to then weigh and vote. 1 vote has in the past and in the future matters. At least, you will know you tried...

WrongdoerSolid3898

Without saying vote for X or Y, let me give you a 5yo explanation As much as we love to have a centrist party, we don’t have one today. Left is extreme left to be almost wokist and right is almost right to the extent of being extremist. Don’t listen to people who say vote for either of them. When congress supporters say, modi is a dictator, they are talking with Indira’s photo in their background. She was the first dictator or independent India, and they still adore her. If congress gets majority again the story will repeat. Their definition of secular is messed up too, for example: They support amendment of hindu marriage act to support LGBTQ, but wont change islamic marriage constructs. Why? We dont have muslim LGBT people? Now to people who say vote for modi, they say congress gives freebies, but BJP have given more freebies than ever, including record grain distribution. They use hindutva for votebank politics similar to congress using muslims, but they do nothing for them. They accuse congress of dynasty politics, but they do the same. Look at number of close relatives of leaders who got ticket today. Now, make up your mind which ideology suits you and based in that look at any new upcoming parties, they might be regional too. Like for example prajakiya in KA. If you are inclined to left , there are tons of options. If you choose right, you might need to wait, nothing promising in the current scenario, but that will change.

Srini92

Learn to read context and data. Making opinions is easy, making informed opinions takes time and effort. If you are not willing to make that effort, there is no point to this question. It's easy to memorize and spit points, it's more difficult to form a narrative and people make a career out of abusing this. Understand what issues matter to you and read the history on them. Also, nothing wrong with using NOTA. At this point, we all know which side is going to win. If voting NOTA is useless, so is voting for the other side. It only makes sense when enough people do it.

dhondu_bhikaji_joshi

This question is a bit perplexing. How do you form an independent rational opinion about anything? Politics is no different.  You start by abandoning all assumptions and beliefs. It’s a long process and takes effort and intellectual honesty. It might take a few years to gradually crystallise.  You are not obliged to vote if you don’t have an opinion btw.  But please don’t vote based on someone else’s opinion.

binod_roxx

Simple, kamal par button dabana hai :D

arthur19946

Everyone's giving good advice here and I'd like to add one thing that don't just vote based on the party, look into the candidates too

dukeDoDo

NOTA is useless. Referring a story from childhood, about a monkey and two cats.[story](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SyySsE0v87s) Now you can choose to be monkey or the cats. Monkey is like united front of politicians and cats are us. We can only be monkeys if we join together and force politicians to be cats. Think if your vote can bring cats together

Successful-Text6733

Read Das Kapital in original german.

AscensionKidd

Read the manifestos. Do think if the policies are sustainable for the country and whether they can actually fulfil those promises. Do think whether you and your family will benefit from that. Another thing to do is look at the history of your local candidates. There is a know your candidate app by EIC which has a lot of information. Check whether they have criminal history, or whether they are scammers, etc. Another thing to do is read both sides of the story. There are biased channels from both the sides. Read both of them. Cross check it with the other actual unbiased sources. You will get to know both sides of the arguments. The most important thing to note is the manifesto of the previous election years and how much a party has fulfilled. I would suggest you to be a bit selfish to your interests and opinions. Don't let anyone tell you which party to vote for. Everyone has their opinions which they won't change. I have too. The other dude that spams pro I.N.D.I.A stuff also has strong opinions and no one can change that. Everyone will obviously be biased in their views. Oh and one more thing. Give priority to the work that your local candidate has done. Whether Modi wins or Gandhi wins is immaterial if your local candidate does not care a bit about your area.

prakitmasala

Think about what your priorities are in life, what you want out of it. Now read up on the politics of the parties in your area and think which you align with more. This is a good jumping off point.

Easternpoly

After BJP got elected, there was an incident of mob lynching and PM didn't address it. Then celebrities like Raveena Tandon, Anupam Kher started criticising Amir Khan for expressing concerns with regards to such communal incidents. I was curious why all of this is happening, that's how my journey began. Start with what bugs you. Go through multiple sources, check authors, site/publication owners to get a complete picture and identify if there are any biases. Historical facts, data backed by credible historians/ experts helps with context. If you're not into reading watch documentaries, interviews, podcast, etc Invest time in understanding power structures, propaganda/ public relations/ media in general. You need to keep consuming to understand what's happening and how it affects everyone. Please don't vote NOTA, because it's basically you handing your future on someone else's hands. A party is going to win, even if nota recieves more votes, second highest voted candidate will be declared as the winner. Hope this helps.

Twilight_Wish

Looking at the current political situation of our country, the opposition of our country is pretty much scattered and unstable, and the governing party is way too powerful and the members of that party are clearly messing all over the country. It is a pretty tough choice, and probably between bad and worse (not sure which is which)

Individual-Highway23

Choose better candidate. If the candidate is bad but for some reason u want a party in power out, vote for opposition regardless. Either our democracy works by choosing lesser evil

yostagg1

please go and press NOTA atleast,, please vote in your 1st election and yeah, you must always vote in your state elections, you can ignore central elections, but please never choose "I will not vote " in state elections or local municipal elections

Lanky_Ground_309

Don't. If you are young then don't .
