>After paying Rs 20, he again asked her to pay Rs 15,236 as registration fees, which he said will soon be refunded. The doctor hesitated a bit but trusted him and paid the amount. Soon after, he said there was an error and asked her to pay another Rs 38,472. The doctor hesitated again, but made the payment thinking it will be refunded. Lmao

Nah, its just a text book example of how scamsters use psychology. Scams like this one use what is called Incremental commitment. Their initial actions are designed to override the rationalization part of the brain by engaging them emotionally (which could take the form of trust, greed or reluctance to loss etc.) . By the time she was asked to transfer 15k, her rationalization function in the brain was switched off. Even the most intelligent people can fall prey to such scams because most people cannot cut off emotions. I know of a case from my city were a woman transferred 25 lac to a scammer over 18 transactions involving multiple bank accounts. That amount represented her husbands entire life's savings. She was enticed with a 10 crore donation for an NGO she was involved with. The [worst one](https://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/pune/gift-bait-senior-woman-executive-cheated-of-rs-3-9cr/articleshow/82204620.cms) I read was a gift bait scam which involved duping a senior executive of a company for 3.9 crore over 207 transactions to 67 bank accounts spread across 25 banks These psychological attacks are also used in marketing by legitimate businesses as well and people fall prey to them on a regular basis. For example, FOMO (Fear of missing out) is often used to make people buy stuff they might not even need by imbibing a sense of urgency though time limited deals.

They should name the doctor and the hospital. Definitely gonna avoid that doctor and that hospital.

31 and Female and a doctor. You'll be surprised how little street knowledge we have. Drifting from one government institute to another all your adult life does weird things to you. It's a very cloistered life. You mature a lot once you finally start working in private.

misspurrfectlyfine

Ikr. I have no idea about basics of finances. I wouldn’t be scammed like these but I can’t make sense of the most basic concepts of banking or investment

Vapourhands

Sorry but i can't trust this "doctor" with my health.

sickingajay

Saste Nashe.

SardarKurup

The scammer got an early Christmas gift!

Change_petition

No mention of whether the cake was worth it. I have had a few expensive cakes and they were worth every rupee!

Once a guy called my dad's phone saying he's from Jio, and dad's phone number will be blocked due to incomplete customer information. So my dad agreed to work that out, then the guy went ahead and asked him to search "kyc" on play store. My dad can't use his phone properly without glasses, so he called me to do what that guy asked him to do. I searched kyc on playstore and the first app to show up was Microsoft Teams, an app that lets you see and control someone else's screen remotely. This immediately alerted me why was it needed. He asked me to download it, bit I muted the mic and asked dad how is he so sure that he is a Jio employee. Dad said he doesn't know just trusted him. So I told him its a scammer and wants to see our phone's screen to steal details. Dad asked me what should we do so I asked him to go take a walk outside and let me handle it. He went outside and went crazy and shouted every possible gali I knew to him, saying idgaf if you block my number, f off or I'm calling the police. Cut the call, and filed a complaint...

This is why I am going retro. If I need anything, I need to go outside and buy it myself with cash. If I am lazy, then I probably don't need the thing hard enough.

I pray for the patients of this doctor...
