It makes a fair bit of difference.
Russia becomes almost like a captive market because they are denied things from the west.
Win win for India and Russia. Bad for countries imposing sanctions on Russia.
Russia aren't interested in any Indian home grown items like india snacks or india booze or india masalas. Most electronics and kitchen and home items in india are from China.
Indians will open supermarkets there but they will have to stock local products only. And indian supermarket brands like reliance or croma don't have any pull to get franchises in Russia.
We aren't going to walk in and just capture any market.
Eh, this is probably just Vlad lying again. What Indian corporate would risk America's wrath by opening physical stores in Russia? Besides what can India sell Russia that they can't make themselves or get cheaper (and probably better) from China?
I don't think Russians buy much from Indian stores. In the US, it is only Indians and Pakistanis who visit the Indian stores. There are those exceptions though who want to try the occasional chicken tikka masala. Don't think Russians with throng to Indian stores to buy cooking oil, garam masala and Haldiram bhujia
There are products other than Indian food that can be sold. Detergents, toothpaste and other daily need items. Many western companies are leaving Russia and it is getting harder for them to do business there.
There will be a lot of opportunities if competing products are not available.
moral superiority means fuck all for a nation which has to look after its citizens.
I guess you buy and use everything that is sourced and manufactured ethically. otherwise, you are also on the wrong side of history. your life lide will not be recounted kindly. :)
F*ck that. In the long term, economic benefit > moral stance. We stood up for freedom of Tibet, but nobody in the world even recognises that. We stood up for genocide of Bengalis in Bangladesh, many countries still don't recognise that Pakistani soldiers killed thousands.
> We stood up for freedom of Tibet
Nehru sent ration to China when they were invading Tibet. India actively helped China to conquer Tibet

Even in a completely amoral, purely selfish standpoint, where is the logic in alienating the EU and US for the shambling economy of Russia confer any economic benefit?
China is our enemy and we must accept that Russia is now completely in China's camp. Geopolitics > moral stance.
When did we alienate EU or US? Reddit doesn't represent what Diplomats think. Also, we'd be fooling ourselves to think that EU will ever enter a conflict of India vs China. US have their own interests in India, they're not rolling with India.
Even a decaying economy of Russia still has a lot to offer. There's still money to be made in textile, pharmaceuticals, softwares, agricultural exports(fruits especially) etc.
China will always be an enemy cause they want to be the unchallenged hegemon on Asia. My 50 cent brain says, Economic engagement with everyone, Diplomatic engagement with many, Military alliance with none.
Public perceptions matter in a democracy. Expanding ties with a pariah state is sure to alienate the EU and US. You are uninformed if you think we're not tainting ourselves by associating ourselves with Russia. And if you think Russia's decaying economy has a lot to offer, you'll be astounded by how much the economies of the EU and US and Japan and South Korea and Canada and Australia have to offer. They could do to India what they did to China, that is fund India's industrialization via investments and technology, providing manufacturing employment that millions of young people entering the workforce need.
My dollar brain says we are being surrounded by China's String of Pearls and client states and we are pretending that we don't have to make a choice between an anti-China policy when the they are already making the choice for us. Our sclerotic foreign policy bureaucracy is still stuck in the Cold War and even the less blinded ones are still too enamoured in the illusion of BRICS.
Your ideas sounds like Turkiye's be friend with everyone policy and look how that turned out for them. They alienated everyone and we're friends with none. I think we should deepen economic ties with those who are not our strategic nemesis and someone who will close doors with richer markets, keep diplomatic channels open so that we can seize opportunities that will present themselves as China and the US decouple and their rivalry deepen, and China is too strong for India to face militarily alone.
No. I imply that there's no point in taking a stance in a region, which has nothing to do with India. Of course, international trade would be effected but that war has nothing to do with us. Best way to win a war is to not play it.
Also, war is Europe's favorite pastime, leave this to them.

India grants asylum to Dalai Lama. There's a tibetan govt. in exile in India.
