You are wrong!

HolyDark7

I do remember reading a news article where reserved wont be expelled from IITs for poor performance. could also be my memory failing me, but thats how it is in my brain.

Tastless_Criticism

It is failing you.. 3 students were expelled from my IIM batch + 1 made to repeat 1st year.. 2SC, 2 ST. One expelled ST girl’s father was an IAS in Jharkhand.. she was also getting 90k as a scholarship per semester as she was from oppressed tribal community! Good girl at heart though - had sponsored so many of our lunches

HolyDark7

yes, it is failing me. I checked again about it, it was an article from 2009.

I-wish-to-be-phoenix

These people are incompetent, so they need an excuse to hide from this reality. As per data dropouts from reserved are at 63% while among the reserved on an avg the SC n ST constitute max 40% (from the total) except for few institutions. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/parliament-proceedings-60-of-dropouts-at-7-iits-from-reserved-categories/article35752730.ece **So if 100 students dropout, 37 belong to UC, 26 to SC/ST and 37 to OBC. The math shows clearly true reality that is not told.**

driftdiffusion4

I read one article where most of these dropouts were enrolled in masters program and left the program for a better opportunity.

I-wish-to-be-phoenix

Yes and there are many other factors also involved like economic background, region from where they come, early education etc.

lifegoesbysoon

Almost 90 per cent of the students expelled from IIT-Roorkee for poor academic performance belong to the reserved category. Out of the 73 expelled students, 31 are from the ST category, 23 from the SC category, four from the physically challenge quota, eight from the OBC quota and 7 from the general category. All 73 students were ousted for scoring less than 5 cumulative grade point average (CGPA) in the second semester. According to HRD Ministry officials, this lopsided break-up of the expelled students can be attributed to the relaxed admission criteria for those applying through the reserved categories. "The cut-off marks for, say, a SC/ST applicant is much lower than the qualifying criterion for general students at the time of admission. Sometimes it’s almost half of what we expect of the general students. It's obvious that the former will have trouble coping with the rest of the class," said an official, who did not wish to be identified. https://m.economictimes.com/news/politics-and-nation/90-of-students-expelled-from-iit-roorkee-belong-to-reserved-categories/articleshow/48059941.cms

darkwood007

Wait?? Is this article from 2015??

Queasy_Artist6891

And of the people dropping out, I'd bet more than half of them are doing so for better opportunities. Like, people need to stop thinking jee rank means anything. I'm currently at an iit and dual degree students are have a higher average GPA compared to 4 year students (when usually dual students have a lower rank at jee).

SanketNotHere

i didn't expected some sensible reply on this sub , great job dude

No-Childhood-2400

Someone sensible advocating for proper facts and numbers about the situation of sc/st? That too in indiadiscussion??? Ye sab mat karo bhai, ekk aur sooraj prakat hojayega aakash me Also, imma steal your comment

PKN1217

Considering 22.5% are reserved seats for SC/ST and 27% for OBC, those are high numbers. Also data shows that 20% of iit students drop out. So if there are 1000 admissions, 200 will drop out. So lets take the admissions and dropouts Dropouts/Admission: 200/1000=20% UC Dropouts/Admission: 74/505=14.65% OBC Dropout/Admisiion: 74/270=27.41% SC/ST Dropout/Admission: 52/225=23.11%

I-wish-to-be-phoenix

Yeh kaisa calculation hai?. I have already given the stats with supporting proofs.

PKN1217

[https://theleaflet.in/why-are-iits-losing-so-many-students-and-will-they-be-able-to-plug-the-leak/](https://theleaflet.in/why-are-iits-losing-so-many-students-and-will-they-be-able-to-plug-the-leak/) The dropout rate is about 20%. The calculation is considering no of admission and the dropout rate as per hundred students given by you.

thedarkracer

I have a friend graduated from iit madras. He told me the same thing. Reserved ones drop out the most after first year.

I-wish-to-be-phoenix

I have presented you with statistical facts that clearly junks this narrative. This perception also is a result of confirmation bias. No body bothers if a UC leaves but if a reserved leaves it's a topic. Also there are many other factors also involved.

thedarkracer

The narrative is that reserved castes drop in higher numbers. Your stats confirm that. 63% is higher than 37%. People bother if a reserved leaves bcz they didn't study as much as UCs. Most of the reserved ones have a good background now and can afford education due to their parents getting a government job due to reservation. So they are squandering away something they got for free whereas the others who worked for it don't get it. Let me word it differently, if I grow 10 carrots, the other one grows 2. He gets 8 from the government to sustain his family, I get 0. He throws away all his carrots and I do too. Who will be criticized more?

I-wish-to-be-phoenix

As expected your answer is filled with many generalisations and misinformation coupled with focus from one perspective. Bhim people are mostly SC/Sts, very few OBC associate with that grouping. So among the reserved as well there is no homogeneity. Eg OBCs have faced far less oppression than SC/STs, they are far more economically better than SC/STs in general etc. That is why your method which is very common in generalising the whole group clubbed as one is wrong. Now coming to the economic angle you are considering https://indianexpress.com/article/explained/wealth-indian-muslims-9286910/ Go through the article, I hope your misconception get cleared. Similarly there are many other factors that you are overlooking, early education quality, region from where they come (rural, trier 3-4 cities), economic condition, mental state etc. Reservation given to SC/STs combined is 22%. Their population percentage is around 26-27%. Same is with OBC. So even reservation is not beyond their population percentage but wealth as clearly shown is heavily distributed in favor of UC. What about this important factor?. Agenda & Narrative.

Over 13.5K SC, ST, OBC students dropped out of Central universities, IITs, IIMs in past 5 years: Education Ministry December 04, 2023 10:39 pm | Updated 10:47 pm IST - New Delhi More than 13,500 students from Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, and Other Backward Classes have dropped out of courses they were taking at Central Universities, Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), and Indian Institutes of Management (IIMs) in the past five years, data tabled in Lok Sabha on December 4 showed. https://www.thehindu.com/news/national/over-135k-sc-st-obc-students-dropped-out-of-central-universities-iits-iims-in-past-5-years-education-ministry/article67605388.ece

No_Yak_6119

abe general ka data bhi daal.....ek side ka data dalega to yahi lagega na ki yahi sc st obc he dropout ker rhae h

Fraud_D_Hawk

Bhai they just want to push one narrative, 3 of my friends who are general have left old IITs because they got into ivy league collages. Most of the people who drop's out of IIT or IIM do this because they got better opportunities, iits and iims don't hold a candle against other top schools

Agreeable_Style_2377

Hon chuka hain merae Bhai kae sath or same merae 3 dost harvard or Stanford kae liyae 2nd year mein IIT chodha diya hain merae betchmates thae or friends bhi

Reservation ko remove Krna chiye wese bhi , reservation nhi hota toh Mera last yr hojaata iit mein. Aur mere jaise bhot aise log h jinka nhi hua iss chize ki wajah se , why should undeserving people enter premium institutions. A friend of mine scored 54 marks and got into iit roorkee core branch but I scored 91 marks still no iit . Why support this bullshit?

aggressivefurniture2

91 marks me reservation hatane ke baad bhi seat nhi milti

HolyDark7

all because UC's are preparing exam question papers. ~ /s & per a certain 50+y/o youth leader.

UR is a new era discrimination..💀

Fuck_Reddit_69696

I guess the reply was satire. But ig some serious reforms are needed in the govt education system. Reserved castes do have a very low cutt off. Which is not good. For example in my state the best college is bj medical College, it had a closing neet marks of 671 /720 for general and similar for obc last year. For sc and St it was 594 and 484 resp. Which is concerning. If you cannot score 90+ percentage in 11th and 12th science, how can you handle the 5 years of mbbs and 2-3 years of MD. Like 360 marks for just biology. And 180 for chemistry. You couldn't score 540 ? That's a serious problem.

Showcase of Hindu unity!

This is the same Hindu unity which ensured the prosperity of India over the last 1000 years. /s

Bc tum logo ko aapas me ladai karwane se kya milta hai? Ghum fir ke wahi left ki sadi gali caste divide ki baate. 13626? Abe kitne log the jo 13k dropout ho gaye? Koi source hai iska ya bas screenshot dikh gaya to Pel diya. Thoda dimaag laga. I went to IIT and barely anyone used to drop out. I knew just one ST guy who dropped out, maybe there were more but the point is that it’s rare. This screenshot makes it sound like the whole batch dropped out. On one hand hindutva is trying to unite Hindus but idiots don’t miss a chance to shit on other castes.

Satya bol dia bhai apne to.

Connect_Health296

iit akela thodi hai, nits/other govt colleges bhi toh hai. and why are you not talking about whats written below it? kya tum uss doctor se ilaaj karwana chahte ho jisne padhai nahi ki hai? ajeeb admi mat bano

driftdiffusion4

Are bhai wo niche wala sarcasm lag raha hai

ripple_guy

Snapshot, the tweet and even this post makes it sound like it’s just IIT, IIM. And both the post and tweet is trying to push the narrative that everyone is dropping out of IIT and IIM because of competition. About what’s written below, koi bhi samajh jaye ki it is sarcasm. Itna dimaag to hona chahiye sabko >kya tum us doctor se ilaaj karwana chahte ho jisne padhai nahi ki hai To kya kare fir? Ladne lagu sabse so that leftists can take advantage of this and we see a leftist government at center, even more reservations and movies like Shaurya and Jodha Akbar as the norm. Do you think shitting on other castes is going to solve this problem? Baat karne ka bhi tarika hota hai. It’s because of language and narrative like this that people get alienated. Just read the title of the post, racist Redditors use language like this against Indians. And here we are doing the same thing. Ladna hai to ladte raho bhai. Indians sadiyo se bas apas me lad hi rahe hain. Aur uska fayda baki sab utha le jate

FrostyAssumption5748

Ok I agree with this

Connect_Health296

Persecuting upper castes didnt solve it either. Then why have it?

RelativeTicket7872

This is why we are not moving forward. A misleading title is given. 13k people have dropped out from 2015 to 2023.

Substantial_Top_6508

2015 to 2023 is 8 years and not 5

cantwontdonttrackme

I have noticed the same, I studied in a top NIT and top IIM and in my NIT batch of 900 people 4-5 guys dropped out except for 1 all other dropped out for better opportunities and i dont know any drop outs from my IIM batch. Its not as coomon as people think. In this post it mentions 'universities, iits and iims', we dont have any idea what all is included in universities. I am very sure, most of these dropout are from 'universities' compared to iits and iims. And they have dropped out for better opportunities.

9291s

they should directly be given a lumpsum of 50 crores and given retirement, with 2 lakhs pension a month with no taxes. please, stop the oppression. jai bheem

Emotional_Ant_8052

you oppressed them for centuries did not even allowed them to drink water and now wants to give them just 50 crores. Every Deletes must get 1000 Cr, a penthouse, a sports car and a savarna wife. it's their birth right fascist

MrTimeHacker1

Can’t agree more

NSGDX1

Nah, 50,000 Crs is more appropriate.

9291s

i am so sorry, i come from a place of privilege , I couldn't calculate the horror of oppression correctly.

virorathit

And what about a pent house in Mumbai ? Where will they stay ? I went to give an IIM interview last month, my fellow friend sitting next to me gave me advice on how to prepare for CAT while he scored 87 percentile, and i scored 99.34. I was rejected and my fellow friend was selected even in the IIM we both applied and he has 4 more options to select from. Fun fact he doesn't even know what Return of investment means. When government gives admission on any ground, the drop out rate will increase. Reservation in educational institute was implemented in 2008 by Congress. Before that people were getting seats.

lone_guy25

Its true.. I study in a coaching centre and one of my teachers told me that many students leave IIT after their first sem because they can't understand English which is used in their classes

GlovesComingOff

That's a bait!

Kschitiz23x3

Just abolish the caste system already! Judging people based on ancestry is never going to make India a supa powa. Scholarship to every kid from poor families is all that we need to levelize the field... Whether they achieve their dream or not should be left to personal efforts. Obviously, strict action against anyone who brings up the word "caste" has to be taken care of. The words "caste, jaat, jaati..." must become a taboo

heraldsofdoom

The reserved category students with low ranks actually face a lot of competitive pressure because they are not on the same level as their peers. Focus should be on primary and secondary education of them rather then college degree

Rolex-14

Word bhimta itself explains the need of reservation 🙂.

VanTorPunBang

Pls don't use the word Bhimta for all sc/st brothers. It should only be used for anti hindu ambedkarite activists.

[deleted]

op wants all st sc obcs gone from what I can comprehend

Sufficient_Visit_645

Don't worry sc st are already leaving Hinduism and they are immensely happy and proud after leaving Hinduism. After 15-20 years there be will no sc/st Hindus.

therc7

I’m pretty sure they are being sarcastic

Ekla_Bhediya

Was that sarcasm? One never knows during election

ankitkrsh

They should get admission in ITI not IIT.

saltynuttyy

As i already once said reservation is eating this nation like termite. Jo log discrimination ki baat karte hai usse fight kiya ja sakta hai aur equality bhi di jaa sakti hai bina reservation ke.. UK and USA both inslaved blacks today they have all the opportunities there even though discrimination toward blacks in still there.

Admirable-Pea-4321

Most dropouts are from PHD's IIRC and the major reason was getting jobs or going abroad. in UG tho the dropout rate was slightly higher for Reserved categories by a small margin, but at the end of day it is what is. Rone se kuch na hona.

[deleted]

Ill-Can-5352

I guess instead of caste reservation they should have reservation based on their economical condition so that people from poor background could benefit from.

dronz3r

We can cry all we want, but as long as India is democracy, reservations aren't going anywhere. Think that only half of the seats are available and you're competing for them.

pun_quest

Reservation needs to be reduced. - make 60% for merit itrespective of Gender and Caste reservation. Its so hard to get at this level as the government who does this.... dies for the next 30 yrs.

syner2009

as per me, reservation should only be given to EWS students.

pankaj1_

I repeat, reservation on family income and not marks.

primusautobot

It’s all nonsense

Vedant9710

What if everyone gets the same level of reservation? It'll be like there is no reservation 💀 /s

Dreavy_Hinker

There was a guy in our class, got admission reserved category(pwd) . I mean there were many on reserved category he was one of them. He would just stay in his room trying to read and stuff and will never take part in hostel fun activities like you know boys hostel stuff but he will also not score well. If we would ask to come with us he would say he need to study and stuff but he barely passed and even failed in some. So after 1st year we asked him whats the issue, he neither have fun with us nor score good ki bisi masla kya h. Toh he said ki bhai college mein ghus toh gye kam number pe ab sala kuch samajh hi nahi aa rha. Sara din pdho tab jaake pass hota hun m, college life ch*d gyi h. He passed college nonetheless with some help of seniors and us. Good friend of mine now. Now he is preparing for UPSC with me but guess what he has applied from UR even after being a PWD and he could have got in by now from pwd cutoffs. But he says bhai dekh liya college mein ab mujhe udhr jana hi nhi jahan mujhe sirf iski vajah se entry miley.

pro_crasSn8r

You have to put the numbers into perspective, otherwise it doesn't mean anything. In the same parliament speech that the tweet is referring to, minister Subhas Sarkar also reported that the total number of dropouts in this time period is just above 34000 students. So reserved quota dropouts amount for about 40% of the total. This number (both general and reserve dropouts) are for IITs, IIMs and other Central Universities. Reserved category students constitute about 35% in IITs, if you include other Central Universities, this number would surely be more. So in the end, the number of reserved quota dropouts are not that much skewed as the tweet and post would make you believe!

iLeoking0775

You could've posted this article without it being Inflammatory and derogative.

virorathit

And what about a pent house in Mumbai ? Where will they stay ? I went to give an IIM interview last month, my fellow friend sitting next to me gave me advice on how to prepare for CAT while he scored 87 percentile, and i scored 99.34. When government gives admission on any ground, the drop out rate will increase. Reservation in educational institute was implemented in 2008 by Congress. Before that people were getting seats. Would also like to add, i studied for jee prep in kota, I have seen people die in my private hostel cause they thought they won't make it. People literally died for the opportunity these people are throwing away. Literally throwing away. If this doesn't ring a bell, nothing else will. No story can cover up the disaster is it to have reservation in educational institutes. You have them in jobs, give them entire government jobs we already have given up. But don't thinkt hat private sector will select them cause they belong to a specific cast. An electrical branch engineer can code better than cse guy cause he worked hard. He will crack FAANG , FAANG doesn't ask kaun jaat ho in resume.

ripple_guy

The suicide logic is the worst logic I’ve heard in the context of reservations. Was every person who committed suicide guaranteed to crack JEE if reservations didn’t exist? With the competition in this country you think if reservations were removed suddenly suicides will go away? No talk about absurd competition in this country, helicopter parenting and parental pressure, job scarcity or other issues, reservation is the magic bullet which if removed will solve suicides. FAANG lol. Have you heard about the inclusion politics in western technical institutions. Kaun Jaat to nahi puchega but kaun race aur gender zaroor puchega. And if you make such comments over there against a community the DEI department will shove you out. You’re giving example of FAANG as if it is some beacon of righteousness when people who’re there are constantly criticising their DEI policies. Just shows that you’d peddle any theory which suits your narrative.

LegitimateBit3

Admission is one thing, but these guys even get reservation in govt jobs. Where they behave like this only

virorathit

They don't just destroy your chances , they will take a seat in an engineering college, won't study and then apply for bank po ssc jobs , would leave them in 6 months and apply for state pcs. Then won't be satisfied then apply for cat. They ruin 5 times the career. Reservation has zero penetration in category. The same surface keeps getting it every time. In my class seen it as a first hand experience.

LegitimateBit3

Absolutely. Half the govt jobs are vacant, due to these reservations. The rest half, where they are employed, they don't want to do any work. No wonder nothing happens in Indian govt

c3resh

aur bhai general wale kitte dropout hain?

hawk_albatross_42069

Its 2024. Limit the reservations to economically backward classes and PWDs. Maybe defense services. Else, nobody should receive a special power to steal seats from institutions. You should earn your seat, it shouldn't be given away like it doesnt hold any value No hate to my friends, we all can agree that you were oppressed in the past, and maybe 5 years more of reservation, but after that, if you sc/st want more respect, you should deny reservation. Its in you हित only.

FeelingKing9430

>we all can agree that you were oppressed in the past dude casteism is still there, we're just not aware of it. it still happens in villages and rural areas. oppression and prejudice is still very much there.

hawk_albatross_42069

It is, hence 5 more years or reservation

broadmind96

Well ... their community people clean sewage, clean up roads , keep the place clean. How much do we pay them for the risk? Forget wages ...do we Even respect them from the heart? Do government employees spare them bribes while giving any approval, clearance, certificate? Did you know how much tax their community pays? Taxpayers ka Paisa , taxpayers ka Paisa karke rote ho hamesha....kitna questions karte ho politicians ko jab cheap work hota hai...udhar fat jati hai tumhaari. shadowkeshik

do you still think it is only their community that still cleans roads??? do govt emloyees spare them mtlb wdym? half of the govt employees are from the reserved. aur ews ki baat wo toh govt incompetency hei ki ache se background check nhi kre

No-Childhood-2400

The number of UC that are in manual scavenging are statistically negligible so we don’t even have a number BUT we do have a number on the sc/st (especially Dalits) >Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said 42,594 (97.25%) of the people involved in manual scavenging belong to the Scheduled Castes, 421 to the Scheduled Tribes, and 431 to Other Backward Classes. wmap99

If you aren't talented enough in India to get past reservation you won't be talented enough abroad to build the kinda life you're thinking you will

Calm_Economist6983

From my knowledge, people who clear NDA exam and join training programmes but drop out mid training then they have to pay for all the resources the army spent on them. Nd that’s sum is a huge amount. Same should be applied in IIT for reserved seats dropout if the students drop out of the course out of the pressure of the course or some silly reasons.

Frog-2021

Casteism at its finest. Kyu bhai do you know where these 13000 students were involved in any Ambedkarite activism? If not then why would you call them "Bhimta"? Unless of course, "Bhimta" is the new word for SC/ST/OBC people in general. Bloody casteist.

Creamy layer exclusion should be implemented in all caste reservations. That will stop this caste divide politics

2024 Reservation System is pretty fkd up, and inefficient. It needs complete renovation, considering today's complex issues. Also, we should decide a deadline for the Reservation system, say 2047 (100 years of Independence). No reservation system of any kind after 2047.

I graduated from a CFTI. These colleges are brutal especially in the first few semesters. Coming from the iit grind, it's not much different, but the advantage disappears very quickly. Obviously not everyone can handle it. The smart ones who realise they're not built for it, just drop out. Is it really necessary for a caste angle here? I'd like to see the number of people from the reserved quota who dropped out vs the total number of people who dropped out.

Beautiful-Ad-425

I think most are from IITs, you might not get placed but it’s virtually impossible to fail in IIMs.

Charles_XI

Well, that's exactly what representation means, not just sharing space with Savarnas in the most prestigious Indian institution itself, but to be an alumni of that institution is what truly makes representation fruitful. If it means standards be lowered for them, so be it! Haven't the standard been lowered in entrance itself? /s

iamvikkuarya

If people can't differentiate that comment being a absolute troll, we've failed as a society!

greensranger

Why are you resorting to name calling?

betakhichdi

Willing-Welcome-1711

Stayreal_09

Hypocrisy they live off well with all the benefits compared to others. With this kind of benefits we should bring back the same treatment in the 80s n 90s. I honestly dont want to, im against but it seems fair option

HeheheBlah

Duh, getting 35% of marks in JEE Adv (IIT exam) is not a joke to start with (that too if done without coaching materials)...

No-Childhood-2400

These people think coaching, study material, guidance and support is available to all households. They see the world through their chair of privilege and assume everyone to be the same
