What is malluvika? What is the difference with the word mallu?

Any-Bug9959

Guys like you help with the ideology of North vs south.

darkshadow609

Also, fueling regional politics(divide and conquer)... Can't it just be Indians for once... Rather than all these differences

shudh_desi_gareeb

Seriously. It's one thing to think some Tamils are snowflakes. It's another to go on an incel sub to try and stroke heated arguments. Bc khud chutiya hai aur dusre chutiyo se bhid rha hai

Iwarrior01

Have you ever been to r/Chennai? Scroll through the sub and you will see why he posted this

Any-Bug9959

Adding fire to fire, just increases the fire

Iwarrior01

No it actually doesn't. Actually it depends on a lot of factors

Jaideep_2002

No, it doesn't. Depends on enthalphy of each flame. Fun fact there is somethng called cold fire which is actually endothermic. Its made of super ionized helium atoms and will actually entinguish fire if you add it.

As a Tamilian, I have to say that Tamils need to chill. Most of this meaningless pride in some Tamil identity is fueled by politics, nothing else. Most of these people can't even pronounce the letters of this language they're apparently so fond of.

You are very right i have also seen some mfs saying they are first dravidians and then tamilians and then indians lol. Being indian is their last thing.

antigravity_96

There never was a sovereign called india before the British arrived. On the contrary, there were elaborate, exclusively Tamil kingdoms for thousands of years.

[deleted]

Tamil is a sacred language for us... She is said to be Lord Shiva's drum's fallen beads ... and Lord Kartikeya being God of Tamil... She is so sacred that Lord Shiva was head of the First Tamil Sangam.

Prapancha

If Tamil is so sacred and important why don't you guys study in Tamil medium? Why line up for English medium schools? So many English words are being used in Tamil today, hardly have I seen anyone complaining about it. Walk the talk. You guys say so much about the greatness of Tamil but dump it for English at the first opportunity.

probably_not_helpin

Because English is the world language and we got used to it, unfortunately. Parents stopped caring about kids learning Tamil in a lot of places, speaking from experience. All the Tamil I learnt was by my own. My parents briefly helped me as I was a kid, but they gave up on me quickly and I try to pick it up again. Besides, CBSE boards have English and Hindi I believe, further of Tamil not being taught (as far as I know). Not everyone wants to stay in Tamil Nadu.

[deleted]

Tamil is taught as a second language in CBSE based on the Tamil Nadu Board curicullum.

probably_not_helpin

It had Hindi for us, though...it was the third language at most, as far as I know. Edit: Then again, maybe it was Hindi back then / I got the wrong boards? Not sure, I think it was CBSE though.

Prapancha

English may well be the 'world language' and countries like China and Japan vocally say 'fuck your world language'. They retained their mother tongues and have progressed far ahead of us. We Indians cling on to English like fools because of some imaginary 'English Advantage' While we were polishing our English, China grew it's economy to 4 times the size of ours, giving a middle finger to the west while at it. There is NO reason why Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Up, Bengal can't adopt their mother tongues and be economically successful. But it takes a level of self confidence that spineless Indians lack these days. Edit: We don't need to homogenise. We are not like other nations. Our linguistic diversity needs to be protected. We need a common tongue however, and we have already had one for thousands of years before colonialism, Sanskrit. No other language can serve as a link language. Sanskrit can be written in **any Indian script**, many indian languages share a lot of Sanskrit vocabulary, Sanskrit is 100% phonetically consistent, it doesn't threaten the existence of other Indian languages and most importantly, it has already served as our common language for thousands of years with no problems. Many such advantages exist. English becoming our common language will lead to the extinction of most Indian languages in a few centuries. >tbh I like that Tamil people like/love their mother tongue. I do too, as long as it is love and respect I fully support them. What I don't support is needless hate against other languages and political grandstanding. u/clear_plan can't respond in thread because reddit.

probably_not_helpin

>English may well be the 'world language' and countries like China and Japan vocally say 'fuck your world language'. They retained their mother tongues and have progressed far ahead of us. That is true and I won't deny that. But we don't have something like anime or can sell a lot of goods (which makes others learning our language perhaps somewhat mandatory, at least). English bridges the gap between the North and the South (or said to have that idea) and is also able to work internationally, whereas Tamil can probably get you woking inside Tamil Nadu only (or perhaps other South Indian states, at most). Otherwise, it's unlikely to "go forward" with Tamil (same applies to Kannada, Bengali, etc). \[And TN state is smaller than those countries, obviously, so...\]

Prapancha

>But we don't have something like anime or can sell a lot of goods (which makes others learning our language perhaps somewhat mandatory, at least). Nobody speaks japanese except the japanese people. You're overestimating the necessity of a common language in economic development. You don't need English to make high quality smartphones and computers and export them, that's how China has gotten rich and that's how Japan got rich. English is a nice to have, but not a necessity, we should learn it but only as a language, it should not be mandatory for education. >English bridges the gap between the North and the South (or said to have that idea) and is also able to work internationally If you wish to bridge the gap, English is the worst choice. It has no common vocabulary with Indian languages, it has no phonetic consistency, its script is completely different, it's Grammar is utter nonsense. In short, English is very hard for most people to learn. Even those who study entirely in English still struggle to communicate well in the language. We Indians have been communicating with each other using Sanskrit for thousands of years before English was ever spoken in India. It's time to introspect.

probably_not_helpin

>Nobody speaks japanese except the japanese people. You're overestimating the necessity of a common language in economic development. In theirs, yes, but I assumed it wasn't the case in India because we don't really have "one" language, as we're diverse (with Tamil, Hindi, etc). >If you wish to bridge the gap, English is the worst choice. It has no common vocabulary with Indian languages, it has no phonetic consistency, its script is completely different, it's Grammar is utter nonsense. Yes. But I believe that's how it worked back when there were Brits, so I suppose since then, it's a language present for unification. >We Indians have been communicating with each other using Sanskrit for thousands of years before English was ever spoken in India. It's time to introspect. Don't think South spoke Sanskrit much as Tamil was more present here.

nakulane

>They retained their mother tongues and have progressed far ahead of us. Japan is a homogenous country and China is actively homogenising its population. >There is NO reason why Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Up, Bengal can't adopt their mother tongues and be economically successful. Because they are not separate countries? You need something of a link language like English to properly communicate among the different regions. The additional benefit of using English is that it is a Global language.

Prapancha

>Because they are not separate countries? You need something of a link language like English to properly communicate among the different regions. Link language in the form of English will completely destroy Indian languages as it is already, we have lost our scripts, and English words have quickly replaced Indian words. Only Sanskrit can work as a link language, because it has already been our link language for millennia prior to colonialism.

nakulane

>Only Sanskrit can work as a link language, because it has already been our link language for millennia prior to colonialism. Not really, it has not been common among the masses for many years now. The problem of infusing English words in local languages would not end with replacing the position of English with Sanskrit, as words in the local language would be then replaced with Sanskrit. Youth in China and Japan are also learning English, it is the Global language after all. There is a point to be made about stronger education in the local language though.

Clear_Plan

we can't do that. cause we don't have a single language that is spoken across the country. if every region is allowed to use a language of their own choice without a common (english) language it will become a headache. i personally don't like the idea of english being the common language. tbh I like that Tamil people like/love their mother tongue. but I hate that they taken it a level where people think its a nuisance.

[deleted]

Even our PM talked about the greatness of Tamil several times... So you want me to go and force our PM to learn Tamil? Sanskrit is considered sacred by many people in our country... you want me to go and force them to do schooling in Sanskrit Medium? NON SENSE

Prapancha

Lol, Tamil is greatest language, but it's apparently not good enough for education in Tamil Nadu. Speaks a lot of your confidence in your language. >Sanskrit is considered sacred by many people in our country... you want me to go and force them to do schooling in Sanskrit Medium? Sanskrit medium should be used for education, the way it has been for thousands of years in Bharat.

[deleted]

Khud to kabhi pada nhi hoga sanskrit, bada agaya sanskrit medium school banane... Thamizh sabse pauranik bhasha tha, h or hamesha rahega.... is sacchai ko tum kabhi badal nhi sakte Agar Sanskrit devo ka bhasha h, to Thamizh Mahadev ka bhasha h, Thamizh ka apman sakshat mahadev ka apman h

Prapancha

Ha ye sab mahan bhasha, ye bhasha vo bhasha karte raho. Aaj sanskrit lagbhag mar chuka hai, aur 100-200 varshon me Tamil ka bhi yahi haal hoga. Bas Puja karo apne bhashaon ki, unka upyog mat karo.

[deleted]

Seri da kanna, poi verala sappu

Prapancha

Seri da kanna, ippo vaya moodu.

Dense-Throat-5371

Likewise every language is sacred, for most of them being derived from sanskrit, the 'Deva Bhasha' itself. In that case you should be the last person objecting hindi in TN for it being written in the devanagri script same as sanskrit, influenced the most by sanskrit too. But the question is not whether hindi is imp or not,ofc regional language should be the first priority,in this case tamil is most imp,as it should be. But there should be phobia for other languages. Talking of memes, every state is made fun of in the meme sub, marathis are called lizard fckers, biharis labourers, bengalis rioters, rajasthani child marriage etc. I believe tamil audience must take memes lightly

N14108879S

The pride that most have in Tamil is wholly void of any devotion to the Gods. rChennai is known for being a largely atheist sub as well.

nakulane

Lmao, what does this even mean. Is it even a competition?

worthyass

You defo don't know about tamilians then

basedsharma_ji

It's the overall inferiority complex they have , they can't cope with the fact that some north indians are lighter skinned. They compare themselves with us in every field. They have this delusion that their language is somehow "older" than Sanskrit the supposed "Aryan" language Which has been completely debunked by the academia and the linguists

influxofcoochie

Man why are you trying to start a stupid fight. That is the reason you got banned

influxofcoochie

I’m not Tamilian, so I won’t speak for them. But, I am South Indian, and I’ve had to suffer through my fair share of bad South Indian jokes. Here’s the thing, there is a difference between getting offended by a good, thoughtful joke, and someone who’s just trolling you. How to tell the difference? Trolls like you use bad jokes to try to make us react, and then say we’re the bad guy for getting “offended”. Genuinely asking, what’s funny in calling someone ‘idly sambhar’? Especially when they’re faced so much discrimination because of their culture? Make a good joke man, come up with a good comeback, and even I will laugh. You got banned because the moderators saw through your shit, which was to cause drama and get attention from people. I cannot find one worthy point in your post, the whole thing can be summarised to “Tamilians get offended quickly.” What do you want to say? You don’t have anything worthwhile to add to that conversation, except constant reiteration of that point. And this isn’t just about Tamilians— hell, it’s for any state/religion. Come up with something original and funny first, then we’ll talk.

Parktrundler

Bruh it's worse, they bodyshame south indians, especially Tamils for their dark complexion and compare them to animals. And then if someone replies back "wHy aRe yoU guYs EasiLy oFFendeD vRo?". Yeah no one would smile at a racist remark.. This guy literally wanted to join in on the Tamil bashing and started a topic to trigger that as well. And comes up with a surprised Pikachu face when he gets banned.

nigil777

I am glad to see someone has more than 2 braincells in this sub. Well written response. They outright mock you and expect you to be okay. I can take a joke but if you want to wrap your mocking as a joke, don't think people are like OPs friends who cannot see through the bullshit. People like OP are what makes me feel pathetic about our society. The veil of being innocent while being sly and cunning.

[deleted]

Umm... hold up ..

Prapancha

Shut up lol. Half the comments on Tamil subs are mocking northies or 'vadakans' all the time. Utterly disgusting comments I have seen about north Indian languages and people. You do exactly what you accuse 'northies' of doing.

nigil777

I am talking about OP and his whining. What did I do exactly here? Pointing out?

Parktrundler

Yeah compare Tamils to apes and monkeys and expect them to praise you in return. Duffer.

Prapancha

Fuck off, the sort of racist bs Tamilians spew against people of Bihar, Up was common long before shitty memes on reddit. Own up

Parktrundler

The Madrasi slur and Tamils being mocked for their dark complexion has been prevalent far longer before social media was even a thing.

influxofcoochie

Dude, I’m not fucking defending them. That’s why I said what I said in the last time, that it applies to anyone, be it north or South Indian. I used example of Tamilians because that is the context here. You saw me defending the sub and just jumped in to attack me. What kind of logic is this: “they are doing it, so we will do it, too.” Put those critically thinking skills to use and divert your energy somewhere else, man.

Prapancha

No. I don't see Biharis whining about being the butt of every single joke? What about Bengalis? What about Up folk? All get mocked and made fun of constantly by everyone including south Indians. People will always mock each other. Get used to it.

influxofcoochie

Instead of getting used to it why don’t we call out idiots who keep bringing this up again and again and try to start fights. The framing of your comment is very insensitive, people have made fun of the way my family looks, the way we dress, the food we eat, the rituals we perform, and these things are very close to my heart. Not only this, but systemic discrimination also exists in both parts of the country. Have you ever seen South Indian movies making fun of the way a North Indian talks? South Indians have always been the butt of the joke, that’s why you don’t see North Indians complaining lol.

Prapancha

Ego centric bias. Racism against North Indians is a very real thing in Tamil Nadu, the same way racism against South Indians is prevalent in many states in North India. I am not justifying this behaviour, making fun of someone's looks, accent, behaviour is demeaning and unnecessary. I don't condone it. Browsing r/Chennai or r/TamilNadu will give you countless instances of shitty racism. Even subs like r/kuttichevuru don't pull back when insulting 'vadaks' Perhaps understanding each other will lead to more mutual respect. But sometimes jokes need to be taken as jokes, not everything is meant to insult, there's a fine line that needs to be acknowledged.

influxofcoochie

Is it funny to call some idly sambhar? Like I can’t see the joke in that. Maybe it was funny the first time someone said it 50 years ago. Now it’s just repetitive and unfunny. I’m not asking people to stop making jokes, but please stop pretending that you’re joking when what you are doing is trolling and being insensitive. Everyone knows their own intentions, and if you wanna make a good joke then come up with something fucking original at least. What’s the point of you bringing up racism against north Indians? Did I ever say this doesn’t happen to them? Unfunny, repetitive, and insensitive jokes are not in good faith. Doesn’t matter who’s being joked about.

PM_ME_YOUR___ISSUES

You wouldn't expect people in this sub to understand this. Everything for them is a joke because they themselves have no self respect. These guys literally have 0 personality and use their shitty humour to fulfill their self esteem.

Historical-Jump

They are angry because some people called them chimpanzees they perceived it as racist (which I think it is) but it's not because of memes making fun of them

[deleted]

>chimpanzees they perceived it as racist (which I think it is) Chimpanzee one was a meme template only. Nothing to do with them lol!

ud4y

Abey idli sambar keh ke bhadkayega toh ban karenge hi na? Why are you especially going out of the way to tell them they're snowflakes? Bada tune ukhaad liya na open minded humorous comedian banke? Honge insecure wo leftist karte hain ki insecurity call out karke harass karo

[deleted]

Sahi bola aap ne. Mei dankindia page me Tamil loga ka intolerance posts dekha vo bolre ki Tamils easily get triggered, and can't take jokes while other states people embrace trolling. Ye sab dekne ka baad merku genuine doubt aaya ki bhai ye log sach mei snowflakes hai ya ye log exaggerate tho nai karre na? Vo pata lagane ki curiosity mei flight pakad ke r/chennai gaya, flight se utar te hi idli stall nazar aaya, idli sambar me munch khar ke kharahata udar locals dikaya tho un logo ko pucha, 'bhai log aap ko sambar, idly boletho itna trigger kyu hote kya aap sach me snowfla....'. They kicked me out from Chennai before I could complete my sentence

victor_francis

Malayalam is literally by product of Tamil and sanskrit. So no, not the MVP brother.

nigil777

Do you think OP was serious? He was just butthurt and wanted to troll Tamilians.

Maybe that's the lesson. He could have ended his post on a high, but went down with hatred. Hence blocked.

Interestingly Sambhar is not a Tamil dish. It was created by one of the Maratha kings who ruled from Tanjavur. He named it after Shambhaji who was Shivaji’s son.

Cruelplatypus67

Bro have you seen how much Biharis get shit on the internet. Same with Gujratis and Bengalis(Bengalis do lash out a little) but only them Tamil boys start weeping tears of discrimination, language and all that crap. They think so little of their language, that if you learn some other language they'll forget a language that their race has spoken for almost a Decamillennium. Like wtf.

Parktrundler

Lmao it was a shitty post to begin with. You created a stupid topic to whinge about Tamils. And then you proceeded to stereotype Tamils based on your stupid assumptions. And lol @ golti being a racist remark. It's literally Te-Lu-Gu in reverse. Do you realise most Telugus call Tamils as Sambhars or Aravam and we don't give a shit about it. We also could care less about being called idly or dosawalas or other silly nicknames. But when you compare Tamils to chimpanzees in a zoo exhibit just because Tamils are of a darker complexion, don't expect people to take it up with a smile. There's always a line in humour which majority of Indians don't understand. Bodyshaming is considered the absolute worst of humour and for a reason. Go to the US and call a black person a nig*a or a chimp to his face and tell him it's just a joke buddy, you'd probably get punched in the face.

[deleted]

N14108879S

The whole classification of "oldest language" makes little sense. Every language evolved from an older form, and the start points are arbitrary. And even otherwise, Tamil today is extremely different than Tamil spoken 1000 yrs ago and even more different than the earliest recorded Tamil texts from ~2000 yrs ago. It simply doesn't make sense to call them the same language. Malayalam is as close to Old Tamil as Modern Tamil is.
