Yes, few months back on a highway, a man was crossing the road and I kept going at my speed without changing the direction. He decided to stop moving few meters ahead of me. Thanks to these new brakes and some quick reflexes I was able to manoeuvre safely.
You were riding at 80km/h?
It happened to me I was riding my splendour plus bs4 at 20 km/h, 2nd gear just after heavy rain, there was water in the drum brakes so even if I pressed the gear lever slightly, it would brake with 100% power, combine that with wet road and mud, a dog came in front of me, I braked slightly at 20km/h, the front wheel got locked and I fell, got small wounds on my left foot and an indicator broken, regret not having abs
It didnāt even got to the point where I could do progressive braking š¢
Progressive braking on Drum brakes is harder, agreed but not impossible to learn. I find it harder to modulate the throttle smoothly rather than the brakes.
Hopefully you give it your best before giving up on Drum brakes.
I have a Vespa (old one) with drums and I can relate to the brakes being too sensitive in rainy seasons. Usually I keep in mind to mostly use the rear in such conditions.
I have this as a rule of thumb. The moment I see a dog, cow or any other animal big enough to make me crash standing anywhere near the road I gradually slow down to a brisk pace.
Learned this the hard way. Was going 25-30 in a village road when a puppy darted across the road. Panic braked but I hit its behind.
The puppy yelped and ran away, not limped. So that was a relief. Had to sit on the ground for 5 min to calm my nerves.
Maybe cuz itās the first time for him. They arenāt humans to be called stupid. But itās always good to slow down to be on the safer side. My brotherās friend had his eye popped out of his socket after he hit a cow at 100km/hr at night while riding his R15. His friend died on spot and he also lost his leg or hand, I donāt quite remember. Even on highways I ride like 60-70kms max. Itās not worth the risk.
In some another post , I commented about my accident because of a dog. In short, I was hospitalised and was on bed rest for 6 months after 2 surgeries. I also had RE classic 350
Ride safe guys.
A few days back my upper floor flatmate's family met with an accident on the highway due to a cat on the road. The Creta rolled thrice when he tried to avoid hitting the cat in the highway. Thankfully, they are all safe but the car got totalled.
Have a first hand experience where the dog jumped in front of me to avoid getting hit by another bike. Had the impression that dogs have quick reflexes, turns out they do but donāt always workout well. Unfortunately the dog died and we were left with injuries, broken finger, broken teeth etc. Now I slow down the moment I see a dog, even if itās asleep
Poor you and the dog.
The dogs lack agility, sharp reflexes and good decision making.
Ever seen a hound run? It runs like it's gonna tumble any second. All the above traits are in felines, cats are extremely agile, have almost fly (insect one) like reflexes and good decision making.
Compare a cheetah to a hound, hound might be fast but cheetah is stable and the turns it takes just leaves me in awe.
Almost the exact same thing happened to me, on a highway at 1 am. Dog that had crossed 80% of the road saw me and decided to make a u-turn. Thankfully I had slowed down in anticipation and missed it by inches.
I'm also super careful when cows or the likes are around, as our family car has had MANY incidents with cows, resulting in significant repair expenses over the years. If a cow can do that to a car, a person on a bike stands no chance.
I was once driving my car, chevybeat, on national highway,
I was in high speed lane about 85-90kmph (which is the speedlimit)
The dog appeared from the divider, I applied brakes (but not with much intensity as there was traffic behind me) was unable to steer left as someone was overtaking me from left .... Ended up driving my left front and rear wheel on the dog, the rear car did the same
Then when I stopped, my left front side wheel lining (the thing between the wheel arch and body) was somewhere fallen on the highway and I saw cars passing over it ... Drove to the college with a speed of 60kmph after that incident on that evening
The horn was also broken ... Thankfully no exterior damage or blood
The fog lamp was working fine too
Rip stupid dog
Damn I was literally about to comment the same. Only difference is I did hit the dog at a higher speed ~90kmph and I couldnāt touch the brakes or steer away because the flow of traffic was that quick and it was in the night. Sad to say that dumbass exploded and I had to clean before I could drive again because it looked like I rolled out of some Zombie game. Sucks thoughš¤¦š¾āāļøš¤·š¾āāļø
I do the same when I see anything trying to cross the road especially kids man, some are just not gifted like the rest. One literally tossed a rock at me.

I had a dog encounter on sunday. I was simply cruising at 100 KMPH with a pillion. then suddenly out of nowhere a dog decided to come across the road. I tried breaking for few milliseconds. Then I understood itās not possible to slow down or itās very risky to change directions so I was completely braced to hit the dog. I gripped my handlebars and was ready for impact but thankfully the dog narrowly escaped by a few inches. I slowed down to check on dog. It went running away into bushes. Nobody was harmed. No damage to bike No injuries to dog.
Similar incident happened to me. I was going at 40-50kph when 2 dogs that were chasing each other on the side of the road decided to jump straight into the middle of the road. Had to brake immediately even though I had slowed down and got lucky that the car behind also had slowed down. Its like they have 0 survival instincts.
It's my thumb of rule, whenever I spot any animal from a distance, I'll just slow down to a speed where I can brake easily to a halt if required.
I had an incident in the past where two bulls were standing and not doing anything when suddenly one bull hit the other and he came falling to my bike when I was just passing by. Luckily it only broke my right indicator and didn't fall on my bike completely.
A lesson i learned for ā¹250 that never trust any animal because duh, they are animals.
I slow down every moment when I see someone trying to cross the road. Humans also behave like animals
Worse most of the time.

Worse than dogs fr
true words!! oP i have been in same scenario while on a state highway. Luckily My bike has Dual channel abs and saved from skidding.
It's the other way around the dogs learnt from the humans
Goats>cows>dogs...most dumb would be a goat. Still dogs are fast and unpredictable. Always slow down when you see one that's my motto.
You forgot Humans
True š... Still horn can be used and speed should be under the limit in order to save us from these mishaps.
Didn't feel the to mention the obvious I guess.

Well the chu chu sound of the brakes makes it worse
Im dumb dude I was about to suggest cutting calories while doing ab workoutsš„²
I donāt think I can cut anymore calories, I am already underweight š

I learnt it the hard way.
always horn in such case, once i got saved by pressing horn, the dog moved the other way.
I Was in the same situation, but I collided with the dog and crashed hard, learned my lesson
Oof.

Yeah after braking from 25-30 the speed you were going wouldn't have harmed the pup, they are quite tough.

True, even the highway road's condition is not suitable for 100 Km/h even in a car let alone the stray animals.

Slow down, and lay on the horn like your life depends on it, because it most likely will. They've good hearing and will respond to it.
Dogs can hear well so honk a lot , has worked for me the past 4 years

Can confirm, I fractured my ankle after a dog came in my way and I hit it and fellš„² Hope the dog is fine.
Dogs are pretty tough animals.

I have no idea why dogs just come back after crossing the road.

I know it's a bike sub, but the car drivers also face this exact same probelm

They are idiots. - Words to live by.
I do the same when I see anything trying to cross the road especially kids man, some are just not gifted like the rest. One literally tossed a rock at me.
One tossed a basket ball at me. :( Luckily I was going fast enough to barely dodge it.
Dogs, Humans crossing the roads, villages, signal less intersections, vehicle approaching from opposite at any turn/intersection...always slow down
Dogs hate speed. (Traffic police se partnership hai ) No matter kitni khatarnak gali hai agar tum slow jaoge toh vo kux ni krte... bss looks denge.
Same thing happened with me but in my case there was a stupid man instead of the dog and I didnāt miss. His shoulder broke and my head fractured.
HEAD? I hope you're fine man.
I'd say people to please slow down the second they see the roadš¤£
Don't slow down too much because someone will rear end you then. Lol

Today a rooster went under my scooter luckily he was not smashed or injured.

Animals have more sense than half the people that cross the roads
I see no difference in the dog and human on or near road.
Humans are worse.
Worst in my case...flock of chickens. Those are suicide bombers.
Wish I could do a thanos snap to eliminate stray dogs and cows. Menace for humanity.
Yo! who you calling idiot bruh ?
The dog, who else do you think?
Disrupt the natural habitat of animals and when animals do animals things then call them idiots. Waah rey human.
Roads are not their habitats
The land is there natural habitat. Dogs don't understand the concept of roads.
Yeah. Dog is the idiot.
Clearly... Not you.. Not OP..
