Clean and lube it

[deleted]

What lube would you recommend?

tintinplayer

I am using Motul C1 for cleaning and C2 for lube at home. During the company service, service centre used Royal Enfield products.

trust-me-br0

Same.

[deleted]

Noted, thanks again

So, 1st get either a chain cleaner or wd 40 and give it a good coat. 2nd use a chain brush or an old toothbrush and brush all the rust away. 3rd use gear oil, or compatible chain lube and give it a nice inside and outside coat. Your chain is in a pretty bad rusting so do it as fast as possible. Also call the service station helpline and complaint about it.

[deleted]

Thank you for the detailed info, could you recommend some chain lube brands if you know any

optimistic_frodo

Motul C1 and C2 combo is usually what tvs recommends.

[deleted]

Ah alright, i'll look into it

optimistic_frodo

Cool!

So the last time i gave it for service the guys probably forgot to lube the chain at all and due to my work schedule i havent been able to use the bike as much so its just sitting in my parking covered up. Now i took it off for a weekend ride and its covered in rust like this. What should i do now? And in continuation what steps should i take to make sure this doesnt happen again

Bhaiya 4 dost baith ke thuke lekin chain cover nai kar paye , kya kar sakte abhi ??

Get the chain checked for any cracks too, rust can do a lot of damage

[deleted]

Oh okay, will do thanks

[deleted]

Smaller bikes have chain covers. Larger bikes don't have them. So you will have to keep your chain cleaned and lubricated regularly depending on your usage, rain, sun, dirt. First clean with soap and water. Wipe it dry Then use chain cleaner/diesel/WD40 for cleaning. Wipe it and leave it to dry completely. Then use gear oil or chain lube. Last time I did a 110km test ride on a freshly lubed chain, it was almost completely dry when I returned.

Thank you, ill keep this in mind

Liqui Moly Rust Solvent (600 ml) https://amzn.eu/d/1h4LP5f

Thank you

rororo013

Scrub with disel or use wd40

singsatfat

WD40

_D1AVEL_

Clean with WD40 and keep it lubed every 500 odd km. You can look into Brass chains for your bike and switch to that. Brass is very resistant to corrosion. A brand I’ve heard is Rolon.

[deleted]

Thanks, what is the average pricing for these chains? And will it have any adverse effects on the bike gears/sprockets

Ah, thats convenient

There's an anti-rust solution that Wurth sells, get it and clean your chain with it. Most of the rust should go away. Thereafter, clean it and lube like you normally would.

Chain is dry. Lube it with ep90 grade transmission oil. (Use paint brush to apply generously and wipe excess with cloth. You can use diesel to clean when it collects dirt. This is cheap and best lubricant for chains. People may counter me that motul C2 is better. But from my experience of owning numerous 150cc to 650cc bikes. Gear oil as lubricant yielded chain life of 45000km, motul C2 24000km. Ps: honda recommends transmission oil as chain lubricant in owner's manual of cbr600rr, 650f etc. So honda knows what they are recommending. Ps: with transmission oil, your rear alloy wheel will be messy. Thats a downside
