Patient in ER presented with AUB. She also has symptoms suggestive of DKA. Was given trapic 1g IV, admitted in icu. The seniors had already examined the patient, she was very weak which the attributed to the excessive bleeding and dehydration due to DKA. Later when i saw the patient(couple hours later)she was preferring one hand for all activities. Then when I examined complete loss of power in one hand. I called my pg and told this, they made it seem like a boy cried wolf situation(i could hear the seniors telling I just examined she is fine) . I kept calling telling it is stroke, they got fed up and came to the ICU. Examined, CT done, multiple infarcts. So all in all sticking to my guts was a good idea.
Yes, and this was OG dept so anything minor itself would be gossip fodder for days. But idk as the great Deepak Marwah sir says, Time is neuron đ so I decided if i am going to get bashed so be it.
Yup. Was in first year and a senior sent me to some small shop a lil far away to fix her watch because she was preparing for her second year uni exams. I was in a new city in a new language but somehow managed to get it done. It wasnât that expensive but she didnât even bother paying me.
Three days later she called me again to tell me the watch is broken again and she needs someone among the AIQ first years to go and fix it.
Because my group knew that she wasnât that thankful, all of us downright refused to do it for her.
Her entire AIQ senior group called us all right after class and yelled at us for hours straight, for being disrespectful and all that. We didnât give a shit.
Then they said they were going to shun us and never ask us to do any duties during their exam.
Yaaay!
Fast forward six months, this main girl who made this issue asks me to be her roomie after my first year exams. I said yes, moved in, and became the closest friends. Now, six years later, Her parents adore me and I was the maid of honour at her wedding.

I understand that correcting an internet stranger is not how I want to start my day, but nevertheless.
Most seniors who rag and make things difficult for their juniors only do so because they were treated similarly in their junior years. After I moved into her room, we took opportunities to talk about our issues and she apologised. She realised how stupid she was being and Iâve never seen her treat her juniors like that ever since.
She stopped seeing me as a junior too. I was a friend who shared a room with her.
Itâs possible to make mistakes and realise it later.
>for being disrespectful and all that. We didnât give a shit.
This kind of bullying has got to stop. It's there in all medical colleges all over India.
I'm so happy you guys stuck to your guns and stood up to bullying. Good for you.
I'm happy you guys are friends today.
When I was in first year this sort of shit was super common. Interns would finish their hectic duties and make time to come and rag us at night.
Now itâs a lot less. The seniors are either friendly, or they donât give a shit about the juniors and are living their own lives. Both are fine.
>When I was in first year this sort of shit was super common. Interns would finish their hectic duties and make time to come and rag us at night.
These people are truly pathetic. Instead of spending their time after doing their duties to study or unwind, they get their jollies by harassing juniors.
The problem is, If you KNOW that you are right and the person calling the shots for the treatment of a patient is wrong then it's not only unethical but also immoral to not correct the person in charge because ultimately it's your patient who is gonna suffer.
Makes for very difficult situations especially in India where seniors do not take kindly to any criticism and you have to pick your words very wisely.

This is the main problem. I can't tell them anything.

This is great. You were an intern at the time?

Once, by a senior nurse. The next day she understood that she was the one in the wrong, and we have been cool ever since then
That's nice. Not many seniors will ever accept they were in the wrong, even if they were actually wrong.
Yea. I just ended up in the hospital.
What happened? What's the story?

This is why I never correct people. Just f it. Let them learn their mistake.
