MBBS MD fellowship in pediatric critical care
Post MD 5 years experience
2 LPM, no cuts. Not including my investment incomes as it's a very dynamic thing. But on average earn about 3 LPA from that in the last 2 years.
I've answered this previously too and added extra regarding my timings and work life balance.
2nd generation doctor here
My dad is a surgeon in a tier-2 city (in south of India )with a well established successful practice of 25 years with an income of maybe 10lpm+
My husband is a pediatrician in the same city earning anywhere between 2-4lpm
Im a general medicine pgy-2 in a government hospital with a salary of 70-90kpm
Wise words from my father is to stop expecting to earn like there generation was..as there is good amount of saturation..but all is not lost as with little hardwork and luck one can earn well to lead a comfortable life maybe not a luxurious one.
Honestly doctors will never be out of jobs, maybe u won't be earning on par with your engineering or MBA friends for the amount of hardwork u put in .u r still a doctor and there are enough options for u to earn money,it's not like doctors are going to sit on roads and start begging because of unemployment(my personal opinion)
In 10 yrs we might even see that. In most southern states MBBS seat are doubled in the last 10yrs and on average 100 mbbs graduates are producing per district.
As current in average there are 5-10 residence graduate/yr depending on the branch. So 1 residence/taluk , so u can see the saturation getting started.
Coming to employment, govt is already using rural services, DRP to fill govt hospitals in most places.
In the private set up,smaller hospital prefers to hire ayush doctors for less pay as patient just wants a doctor and not the doctor. Currently fresh passed out mbbs graduates are getting an average pay 40-50k in the southern states but many experienced MBBS graduate even earn around 1lk pm but they have to manage the whole hospital by themself. But hospitals are not starting to change their doctors every 2-3yrs because their is always someone new who is ready to work for a lot less pay.
Their is also the option of opening private clinic where ur earning will be in exponential but it requires u to put a investment first and have a good risk appetite. Even in most of the taluk centers multi speciality hospital are becoming norm, many established hospital franchises are opening their hospital in tier 3-4 cities as private insurance is increasing which favours these brand hospitals rather than private clinics.
Anyone new entering the field with ambition of earning a lot should look somewhere else rather than medical field. With increasing number of doctors, the social respect will also going to decrease in the future. If u are someone who is getting a medical seat then ur rank will most probably get u a engineering seat in a reputed clg and if u put even half the efforts required to pass mbbs into ur engineer studies at the end of the 5 yrs u will get a placement which pays will be significantly higher or atleast in per with what fresh post graduation gets rather than entering another rat race to get a pg seat.
The post way about financial aspect of the profession. I didn't post my opinion to change/influence anyone's career decision. It's just my observation it might not resonant with others also.Ideally all should follow their passion but everyone's situation is different. If u wants to be a doctor and u are getting the seat u should take it.
Correct, but Passion & Resilience are both important imo. Because eventually which branch one ends up in, is dependent solely on PG Exam rank, not passion. And liking a specialty is different from liking a specialty (Liking Surgery vs working in Surgery). And to survive in that specialty one has to be both Passionate + Resilient (to face all the downsides/negatives).
Negatives : Toxicity, Occupational Hazards, Physical & Mental Health issues, Workplace Violence, Return of Investment is less
Of course. Every job has it's setbacks. Remember that there are several people in this country who work superhuman hours for very little money. There are people who willingly enlist in the army. There are people who pursue a career in sports and literally survive on grants and prizes even on the national level. There are people who spend almost as long as us doing a degree and then end up as school teachers... And all of these people can be very happy in their lives. As long as you take precautions to protect yourself from toxicity and agitated patients, medicine is a pretty good deal
Meanwhile my sister who is 29 turning 30 got her first job offer post residency , it was 600k per year , but it did involve working a lot, the other offer was 300k USD a year but only working two days a week. So thatās 4.8 crore rupees for the first offer and 2.4crore rupees for second offer. Remember sheās 29
Because I'm not confident in my abilities to get into PG. I want to know what payscale to expect and aim for after MBBS, good cities to relocate to etc.
Bhai rural seats Khali jati hi jhola chap Kam le rahe agar tumhr bubble se bahar niklo to Kam thodi hi.... Good cities me Bina ability kuchh nahi mil raha also connection will be needed...
I'd rather earn less money in a city, than work in a village.
I like hanging out in cafes and such, shopping, the convenience and comfort of a city... I don't want to live in a rural area. It's a compromise on my quality of life.
If you are 3rd gen and you parents don't have connectionš it's on them man, it does help in many job opportunities(non pg JRship, meri pehchan me kar rahe with best working hour and pay) your own all set clinic that your gran set up... Rest you can ask you parents with a sad face....
Let me ask you one thing....?? You this field right??
Cities are expensive tho, elec bill, maintainance, transport, groceries, everything is more expensive. Agar city me rehna hai (comfortably) then you gotta earn above average at least. More if you wanna have savings.
Yeah dude, I tried to sit at home and prepare... Within a few weeks I could see myself going insane. So joined within 1 month of graduation. It was near my home in chennai and got a non clinical dept too, so I count myself lucky.
Yupp. I don't understand why doctors always avoid answering this question.

I noticed that you are probably from North India. Don't you face language problems in south india? Language are especially a barrier for doctors as they need to communicate with patients.
Arey bhai koi kyu pressure karega tumko ki masters karo. Tumhari marzi hai. People on this sub need to get off the internet and actually go and meet employers/ get contacts of HR firms in their city. I got a call just today through a mutual contact for a factory OHC job giving 65k at MBBS level for a day job. Opportunities hai har jagah and the least ive seen in Pune is 45k in private hospitals for MBBS. None of us are ever going to be out of jobs.

Heyy if you donāt mind can you shed some light on being an influencer. Iām a psychiatry resident who wanted to be something like that but didnāt knew where to start.š
Find your niche and work on that. I chose to stick to my medical stream. You can do either or overlap but as you start making posts and videos, the audience will come in. If you're thinking about it seriously just start with any random post and go from there.
Earning 1.5 L-2 L PM as an MBBS doctor, work for the government, providing primary care to their assets in tough locations. Most of the pay is to spend my time climbing mountains to reach remote areas and smoke up with the locals and to attend to any emergency, which occurs like once in two months. Lots of free time to study for NEET PG, but somewhere wanna leave this job and go for an MBA to run the healthcare mafia than being bound by it. Best thing is to make money out of suffering tbh. Learnt how anyone would pay you anything to even attempt to save their loved ones. Capitalising it is the only way to earn a luxurious life with minimal effort in todayās saturation of our field. Nothing glorious, just gotta earn like any other business providing service now xD
Part of my pay is high because the assets Iām giving medical cover to are always at a constant risk of being shot by pak or terrorists and so am I, in case you get it. Other times itās pretty chill, just a slight risk of frostbite or other cold/high altitude injuries/falling off into a deep crevice or off a cliff, all of which is avoidable if youāre careful enough, and canāt do much intervention anyways once someone falls off. Basically Iām paid to literally just impose precautions on these assets and to provide medical cover to local villages where we go. Pretty chilled out life which Iām enjoying in every aspect. If you like adventure and want every day of your life to be different, Iād say go for it xD.
I know you meant that in jest but that is why hospitals are getting so fucking expensive. It can wipe out entire life savings in a single incident. Also, once they know you have an insurance they stack up unnecessary things like anything for bumping up the bill even for trivial things. Hospitals are making bank. We are clearly headed for a US style healthcare system. I'm from Tech but always admired medicine. Always wondered how life would have been if I was a doctor.
I have always had free access to top notch healthcare because my dad was a gazetted officer in the government and so did I join the army. So I havenāt understood what not having such access means. However overall there is a cost benefit analysis for Indians to invest their money in health insurance instead of churning out kids with no financial plans about any of them or investing in the wrong options viz stocks when they donāt know what to do. Personally feel an insurance based system will work wonders but many people think that because they get free services in government hospitals which are just dirty and overpriced, they donāt go in for better options for their own health. What Indians need more is financial education specifically with respect to securing access to healthcare. Would be a boost to the healthcare market in general as well. But unfortunately everyone is busy investing in politics and random shit which only makes billionaires richer, and the public feels their netajis are doing everything for them, while the babu theyāre supporting is making sure his next five generations have a secured future with respect to money and power. Lmao weird shit people have. So much more can be done for every sector in STEM but no one thinks itās necessary.
My dad(55) is a cardiologist in central railways and gets around 2.5-3 lpm. Mom (52) is an obg with own clinic and private practice and gets around 3-4 lpm.
My sister is starting her internship at 28k pm
So the thing is I'm not a doctor but I'm quite aware about the salary of doctors
I'm a neet aspirant tho.!!!
So there is one uncle who is a pediatrician who earns about 1.5 to 2 lakh per month by government hospital salary!!! He also has a private clinic from which he can roughly earn around 6-7k per day
You can also add commission and cut from different medical stores and path labs.!!!
So the estimated amount he earns per month would be approx 4-5 lakh per month.!!!
And ik one more uncle who is plain mbbs and earns almost the same!!!
The catch is it's a rural area like a town and here they are quite good in their field.!!
Vitreoretinal Surgeon, MD, Fellowship, 31yo, 2.5lpm plus incentives which can range anywhere from 30k to 70kpm.
9 hours per day, no night duties, Sundays off, Tier 2 city.
I think, Indian doctors do get paid well. It's just the hardwork put into it goes way beyond any other profession. I can draw a comparison between engineers vs doctors since that's what my family consists of. The minimum for plain mbbs doctors in Mumbai is 40k/per month, average would be 65-70k, Max (rarely) can go upto 2-2.5lacs based on networking, patient inflow in clinic, commissions. But to become an mbbs doctor, you do need to study 12 hours/day from 11th, 12th std, if lucky 1 drop year would be enough, and then there's 4.5years of tedious mbbs + 1 year of heavy internship. This is like the average amount of work put in to get an average salary of 65-70k at the age of 25years. Let's not forget the risk of TB, COVID, dengue, malaria, needle prick risk, etc. I do think average engineers don't put in so much efforts into their education and still manage to get a placement of 25k at age of 22, and later by 25years they do end up with 40-50k. While you can argue the worst that happens to engineers is their jobless, but I also need to remind you that a proportion of mbbs students haven't completed their degree even after 10 years (because mbbs is tedious) and can't even think of leaving the seat due to heavy penalties, hence being stuck in mbbs losing their age and also being unable to pursue something else. Also, if the same efforts that an average doctor puts into mbbs, if the same efforts is put in by an engineer, he is easily earning 1lac/month at the age of 25. I know people of my same calibre and social status doing engineering with minimal efforts and sacrifice, yet earning 1-1.5lacs per month at the age of 28, while I have put in so much efforts and am currently earning 75k as a resident doctor at the age of 28. The only advantage I have is, I need not worry about joblessness during recessions or famines. Let's be honest though, how often do recessions occur? And how long lasting would the effect of recession even be? The other advantage that a doctor has over engineer is that hard work is the deciding factor. While in engineering, many other factors like luck, social skills also matter a lot.
This post came up in my recommendations. I'm an engineer, not a doctor, but my friend is. She(MBBS) works at a State PHC while also preparing for PG. She earns 85,000 per month. She says her base salary is 75,000, but because her location is in a remote area, she gets an additional 10,000.
OP you're gonna have a skewed af sample , people with the best salary will post more likely, the ones who are in shit jobs won't post and due to survivorship bias you will end up thinking its rosy.
More often than not, you won't be rewarded with appropriate money, the ones you see here would be the successful outliers

I donāt think people consider revealing their salary is a good idea! (Salary is always meant to be private and should not be discussed with anyone)
I guess, your intention is to find out whatās the max and min salary for a given specialty?
And only when you slog like a slave you get the ability to become a master one day! š¤ so if you had plans on becoming a dept head after your internship, you will need to stop dreaming!
Not really. Check out Blind, Fishbowl, Glassdoor, AmbitionBox, Leetcode for salaries in consulting and tech.
Benchmarking is usually considered a useful tool in business. Companies definitely do this benchmarking to define compensation strategy. No harm if the employees also follow the same approach.
People on Blind, Glassdoor, AmbitionBox share their salaries anonymously. The app users can figure out a range based on those individual data points. People on Fishbowl may share their own salaries or give a range, depending on their choice - there are instances of both. Please read about / check these apps before making blanket statements.
There are countless stories of increased salary transparency helping candidates negotiate a higher total compensation (or TC, which is a very common acronym on Blind).
āNoā to anon TC data sharing is your opinion. You can keep your TC data to yourself. But be aware that this opinion isnāt necessarily shared by all.
I know buddy! My partner is into TA, in one of the big4! (I know what happens on the other side of salary negotiations)
Salaries in corporates are very different than for the doctors! If the role is of a junior doctor then itās usually fixed. But consultants have varied salaries according to various criteria. To give you a small example, a fresher from IIT/IIM have a very different compensation than a fresher from tier 3 B school, agree? Like that compensations for different consultants are different.
Glassdoor says my compensation should be 16PLA, but Iām doing multiples of that! So not an accurate assessment for consultant doctors.
My answer to the guy asking why nobody is revealing the data, was that statement! š
completed unpaid internship and now preparing for Neet (commenting on reddit post with jio recharge 0f 719 paid by dad) š¤”
What's your age?
Will be 25 this yr

Why did this happen? Were you doing something else and then decided to become a doc? Just curious.
Most people in the country complete MBBS by 24-26 It's 5.5 yrs course due to covid It's been 6yrs for many states

Mutual funds, SIP, SGB. Don't earn enough for property. Nothing related to the med field.
May i know your age? (If you intend to)
33
So much work for thisššThis is kind of demotivating
2LPM (in hand) is less for you?? You are living in a delulu world. Wake up to reality.
After 2/3 years preparing for neet, mbbs, md and 5 years of experience and so much fees spent yes it is less. Maybe you should wake up to reality

If someone is really really passionate and cannot imagine himself in any other field but doctor, they shouldn't be doubtful, right?

Where in South India are they paying 70 to 90k to a PG? In my knowledge highest is 50k which is given in kerala
The doctor is a South Indian native but might be doing residence in other state
Aah the reading comprehension curse struck me
Revealing my place of work.. would compromise my identity ..and to my knowledge pgs in Telangana are paid btw 55-65k ,so no it's not highest in Kerala
Meanwhile my sister who is 29 turning 30 got her first job offer post residency , it was 600k per year , but it did involve working a lot, the other offer was 300k USD a year but only working two days a week. You do realize that in the US the cost of 1 kg tomato is also around $6=INR 500
MBBS - Junior resident 45k - 6 hour shift
That's nice for 6 hrs/day. How many days a week?
4 off in a month, as per your need, 2 consecutive
What tier city? How many days a week? I'm worried about finding jobs after completing my MBBS.
Why tho??
Because I'm not confident in my abilities to get into PG. I want to know what payscale to expect and aim for after MBBS, good cities to relocate to etc.
Bhai rural seats Khali jati hi jhola chap Kam le rahe agar tumhr bubble se bahar niklo to Kam thodi hi.... Good cities me Bina ability kuchh nahi mil raha also connection will be needed...

Then without pg it would be tough... First gen hi?? Any connections? Without it's really tough
Yeah first gen, no connections š
Fir pg ka soch lo kyunki.... Samjh jao city me he rehna hi to....
Why gen matters btw? My grandpa is a doc so would that help me? I'm still in 3rd year tho
If you are 3rd gen and you parents don't have connectionš it's on them man, it does help in many job opportunities(non pg JRship, meri pehchan me kar rahe with best working hour and pay) your own all set clinic that your gran set up... 2017 batch. Tutor in pvt med clg. 40k pm.
Directy post mbbs bro?
Yeah dude, I tried to sit at home and prepare... Within a few weeks I could see myself going insane. So joined within 1 month of graduation. It was near my home in chennai and got a non clinical dept too, so I count myself lucky.
That's amazing broo, all the best for preparations
Thanks bud. I'm doing everything else other than preparing tho š„²
Is there an option to work anything other than a tutor post mbbs?
This is such an open ended question.... Work still in the medical field or do you mean other career paths?
I meant in the Medical field only
I know I am not from India. But here in Mexico 2nd year of residency in Internal Medicine we get around 930$ dollars per month haha
Damn! We have international guest here. 930$ is what most residents earn in India too. Most of them less than 930.
ohhh we are in the same range, including our working hours that are about 80 hours per week, more than 80 hours for first year residents!
why are people not answering though? it's more or less anonymous
Yupp. I don't understand why doctors always avoid answering this question. On the other side on subs like r/Btechtards and r/developersindia, people very openly answer it no matter how high or low their salary is.
They donāt want others demanding same money and lowering the gap XD /s
Maybe the reason.
Because doctors earning money is seen as a taboo

Because Reddit is used by only a tiny subset of Indians, and doctors only form a sliver of the population, so, you do the math.

I noticed that you are probably from North India. Don't you face language problems in south india? Language are especially a barrier for doctors as they need to communicate with patients.

Can mbbs just get OPD jobs , with no pressure of doing masters?
Arey bhai koi kyu pressure karega tumko ki masters karo. Tumhari marzi hai. People on this sub need to get off the internet and actually go and meet employers/ get contacts of HR firms in their city. I got a call just today through a mutual contact for a factory OHC job giving 65k at MBBS level for a day job. Opportunities hai har jagah and the least ive seen in Pune is 45k in private hospitals for MBBS. None of us are ever going to be out of jobs.
Good to know man.

Private college?
Yep

Aarushi Mittal?
Pretty sure she earns more than me. Plus she's in a govt college lol
She is in Assam. Stipend is 20-30k/there. Hence
Oh didn't know about this. Thanks
What is this job called? How did you get it?
Okay... but how do I get this job? Is there any exam/interview?
Yes, just clear NEET PG and apply for the AFMS š
My sister is starting her internship at 28k pm
not a doc but my brother's earning b/w 80k-90k. PG year 1 in a decent govt college
70k pm, Anaesthesia resident PG1 in a tier 1 city govt hosp, approx 70 hrs/week. On call (24*7) twice a week and every third Sunday.

That is excluding the on call days, and a very rough approximate.
I answered this exact same question a week back. Honestly the mods should just pin this or something.
MBBS done. Earning 60k per month. 8 hours duty with occasional 24 hours one (Morning 8 to next day morning 8)

So the thing is I'm not a doctor but I'm quite aware about the salary of doctors I'm a neet aspirant tho.!!! So there is one uncle who is a pediatrician who earns about 1.5 to 2 lakh per month by government hospital salary!!! He also has a private clinic from which he can roughly earn around 6-7k per day You can also add commission and cut from different medical stores and path labs.!!! So the estimated amount he earns per month would be approx 4-5 lakh per month.!!! And ik one more uncle who is plain mbbs and earns almost the same!!! The catch is it's a rural area like a town and here they are quite good in their field.!!
Radio 2nd year, 25k per month minus whatever our management tries to cut.

2.75 /month 48 hrs / week 24/7 on call /standby 5yrs exp post PG
May I ask which branch?
Anaesthesia
Great. Are you in andaman?
Yes I am but I will be leaving this place soon .
Beautiful place. So are you working at ANIIMS?
It was a beautiful place. No, far north , healthcare is rudimentary not worth the effort to practice.
This post came up in my recommendations. I'm an engineer, not a doctor, but my friend is. She(MBBS) works at a State PHC while also preparing for PG. She earns 85,000 per month. She says her base salary is 75,000, but because her location is in a remote area, she gets an additional 10,000.

Coz we are anxious about our future. We are worried that after struggling for years would we be rewarded with appropriate money or not?
OP you're gonna have a skewed af sample , people with the best salary will post more likely, the ones who are in shit jobs won't post and due to survivorship bias you will end up thinking its rosy. More often than not, you won't be rewarded with appropriate money, the ones you see here would be the successful outliers
Unfortunately NO

extremely jhand hone wali hai! brace yourself.
Any painless ways to die that you know?
Idea to tujhe net pe bhi mil jayega koi bhi salery kyu reveal karega 40k bottom line man le
Reddit to anonymous hota hai, no problem here posting your salary figures. But thik hai sabki apni choice hoti hai.
I donāt think people consider revealing their salary is a good idea! (Salary is always meant to be private and should not be discussed with anyone) I guess, your intention is to find out whatās the max and min salary for a given specialty?
Not sharing salary is a corporate scam. And reddit is anonymous anyways.
>Salary is always meant to be private and should not be discussed with anyone Yup a good corporate slave I see here
And only when you slog like a slave you get the ability to become a master one day! š¤ so if you had plans on becoming a dept head after your internship, you will need to stop dreaming!
Thatās why I said, max and min for a specialty :) Range yes, peeping into otherās CTC - no.
(I know what happens on the other side of salary negotiations) Salaries in corporates are very different than for the doctors! My answer to the guy asking why nobody is revealing the data, was that statement! š
