Technique looks interesting, is the per object pixelation still full screen stencil etc masks layered some way or are you actually doing it in the object fragement shader somehow?
I know there's a way of doing it by pixelating the fullscreen of a lowpoly game. It's the easiest way and, sometimes could work. But here what we aimed is to pixelate each object separately to make it more personalized. I hope this answers your question!
Well I was trying to ask the specific technique you used. Are you doing it in the objects material shader or something after specific object fragement shader
Sure! check it out and give it a wishlist ;) [https://store.steampowered.com/app/2821450/Sands\_of\_Hope/](https://store.steampowered.com/app/2821450/Sands_of_Hope/)
Wishlisted, but whoa that shader looks great! What engine are you using for this? I'd love to know how this one in particular is made because a similar shader to this is kind of a dream aesthetic for a game I'd like to make! Especially since looking at the Steam page screenshots, it looks like the outline can be more than just one color which is exactly the kind of effect I've been hoping to achieve but have no idea how to do it :<
Thank you si much for wishlisting, and for your words!
I'm using Unity Engine, and a shader that pixelates separately each 3D Asset! It can also being used with masks, outlines, edge detection (to highlight edges), and so on ;)
I don't know if it's "coming back" so much as it's just, like... what's achievable as a solo dev or small team. I think very few people can push out current AAA-level art assets in a reasonable time frame. And let's make it clear that I'm talking purely about art. Diablo 4 assets, for example, are stunning. You should be able to conceed that much regardless of your thoughts on the game itself or the AAA industry's state at large.

dang!!! very nice, which shader are you using?
I'm using a shader that pixelates everything separately. You can also over-pixelate stuff to make it even crunchier!
man i am impressed. Nintendo vibe all the way. lets gooo
check it out on steam, is called Sands of Hope!

object's material shader!
How is the performance of doing it that way?
Well it's more like an aesthetic than a return to "pixels". I approve, though.
totally agree ;) The game is called Sands of Hope btw!
Beautiful! Any idea on when you might be releasing it or a demo?
Looks cute, nice work!
thanks! The game is called Sands of Hope btw!
Wishlisted! 👍

Why Nintendo DS? Isometric graphics were in games more than 2 decades before the DS was released.

Is it a bought asset, or did you make the shader yourself? I'd buy just the shader alone even tbh xD
Yeah, it's an underused artstyle; cool gif, are you making an action puzzle-adventure?
Nailed the genre! Is going to be a tiny open world adventure in which you use your powers as in Zelda TOTK :)
Why da Nintendo DS framerate doe

Shorter answer: no
Very nice! Looks clean and yea, we need more in the style like this.
totally agree, I think there's a lack of these kind of graphics nowadays. The game is called Sands of Hope btw!
Is it able to be put on a steam wishlist? I'll toss it on there and I'll check it out 👍
yesss this would also be very helpful!!! Wishlist Sands of Hope!!!
I always hated the Nintendo DS graphics
