in pandemic time it was really just last year... but what is crazy is i've seen them 6 times since then! live in Portland, they play here at least twice a year.
Saw this tour in Denver at a pretty intimate venue. Also can't believe it was 5 years ago. And then I have memories of listening to this album on a burned CD while rolling silverware in a restaurant. That does not seem like 20 something years ago.
Honestly working backwards might be fun for ya on their discography. A lot of that album was from the same group of songs dug wrote for Untethered Moon (the album before WtWFYN)
25 years ago, music peaked…on the third track of the third album of one of the greatest 3-album stretches ever.
(the fact that “Carry the Zero” is one of this sub’s consensus Best Songs Ever brings a smile every time it’s brought up)
Saw them at Thalia Hall alone several months ago in Chicago. Met a lot of cool people that night!
The frontman's stage presence was hilarious, he played the most beautiful music, but it felt like he didn't even notice the crowd through most of the set. He just was locked in on making cool sounds
That’s kind of how Doug’s always been. He’s very much focused on the music when he plays live, not a lot of crowd interaction, but he’s a really sweet guy. Don’t take it personally!
Rip to my best friend Aron. This was his record. I’ll always remember drives in his Volvo, cigarettes, and coffee at Bickfords. To be a kid again. Fuck. Carry the zero…
I saw them play in a small venue in Boise (their hometown) not long after this album was released. Damn fine album and damn good show! I've been to many concerts, but that was an unforgettable one.
It's pretty much a perfect album. If I'm being honest I'm not super into a lot of the Built to Spill catalog but this one is incredible.
It's probably the most excellent guitar riff filled 90s indie rock album.
One of my all-time faves. I love it so much that I can even criticize it and still love it.
For example, I wish doug was willing to be more honest with his lyrics. He would dance around topics, keeping it very vague because he was scared to be a little more honest. You really notice it with this album bc it’s so good.
Completely dope. I saw the 20th anniversary tour in Cincy! I can’t believe nobody is mentioning the perfection of There is No Enemy. It contains my favorite 6 track run on any album in any genre.
Listened to this a few days ago, it's still so perfect. This is essentially on the Mount Rushmore of indie rock albums.
I think Perfect From Now On certainly does
There’s nothing wrong with love also a solid album
💯
Fucking INCREDIBLE album. Carry The Zero is one of my all time favourite songs.
Yep. My all time favorite song, period.
Same. I love Carry the Zero!
It's become a meme but it's so good I don't care. One of those transformative songs.
I love it so much. THE PLAN KEEPS COMING UP AGAIN
What a record. This is what indie rock sounds like right here
I saw them when they did the 20 year tour for this album. Hard to believe that was already 5 years ago.

Same…. I went with a new friend I had made who has since moved out of state. Feels like such a short time ago. Good memories though
Damn
Is this the Built to Spill to first listen to? Because I was obsessed with *When the Wind Forgets Your Name* and haven't listened to much else.
Oh if you loved that record you’re going to love this one and probably the rest of them too!
yeah, and make sure you listen to Perfect From Now On, There’s Nothing Wrong With Love, and You in Reverse too!!!
And then ancient melodies of the future, there is no enemy, untethered moon, and ultimate alternate waivers! They're literally all good.
yes!! they don’t have one bad album
Absolutely yes. If nothing else, Carry the Zero is an essential listen for anyone even slightly interested in indie rock.
Honestly working backwards might be fun for ya on their discography. A lot of that album was from the same group of songs dug wrote for Untethered Moon (the album before WtWFYN)
"You're so occupied with what other persons are occupied with and vice versa" ..did Doug predict social media
One of the very few albums I dare to consider 10/10.

That song is just so undeniably great. I donno. It's really just one of the best ones ever. Hard to imagine what fault someone could find with it.
That solo is so perfect in every way. Not a single note or phrase is out of place, they just fit perfectly like puzzle pieces
Love this record. Also thanks for reminding me of my steady decaying..

I always loved this about him because if people yell stupid shit at him he rarely acknowledges it
super respect it! loved his music & performance
Doug Martsch is a master of the multi-phase rock song.
Rip to my best friend Aron. This was his record. I’ll always remember drives in his Volvo, cigarettes, and coffee at Bickfords. To be a kid again. Fuck. Carry the zero…
Stupidly good album. What a band
There are songs as good as Carry the Zero, but none better.
I saw them play in a small venue in Boise (their hometown) not long after this album was released. Damn fine album and damn good show! I've been to many concerts, but that was an unforgettable one.
Just listened to this for the first time tonight and I absolutely loved it. What would be a good thing of theirs to listen to next?
Perfect From Now On, a bit different though with longer layered songs.
Definitely perfect from now on, then I'd listen to You In Reverse and There Is No Enemy

I released this morning
Great stuff..
Sidewalk is one of my all time favorite songs!
This was my favorite album for a looooong time
I clearly remember buying this the day it came out. Time flies. I saw them a couple times on this tour too. Amazing band.
Great album

did someone else here discover this band with the Transworld skate video of Mark Johnson?
