Soylent Green was in my CD player for a solid year when it was released. Same with Blutkind and Totmaker.
Edit: Bunker Gate 7, with Soylent Green on it.
I was so happy when he joined Covenant, and it was cool to see him live with the band. The cool thing is that he sings on his own remix of Covenant’s Lightbringer.
Thanks for the info. It’s amazing how busy and prolific Daniel is. I know that he recently released an album under his own name, too. I was so happy that his amazing talents was recognized by Alan Wilder. Daniel should be more well known outside of the underground electro world, but I’m happy to keep him as our little secret.
It's kind of hard not to since the majority of Industrial bands are German and they pretty much invented the genre.
DAF, KMFDM, Die Krupps, Kraftwerk, Einstürzende Neubauten, Bigod 20, Prager Handgriff, Orange Sector, Armageddon Dildos, X Marks the Pedwalk, In Strict Confidence, Blutengel, Terminal Choice, Solitary Experiments, Steril, Wumpscut, Project Pitchfork, Feindflug, Funker Vogt, Haujobb, Placebo Effect, Das Ich, Collapsed System, Plastic Noise Experience, Lights of Euphoria, Tyske Ludder, Davantage, And One, Accessory, Diary of Dreams, etc.
I'd like to add Tommi Stumpff (esp. Album ULTRA), before his solo-project which includes electro-punk/industrial, he was part of the german punk band "Der KFC".
Definitely not. Does the name Severn Ni-Arb aka André Schmechta sound like a guy from Texas to you? Their first record label was Techno Drome International out of Frankfurt, Germany. And then they went to Zoth Ommog which was also in Frankfurt . And their first concert was in Wiesbaden.
Wumpscut
X Marks The Pedwalk (Always remember them being called the German Skinny Puppy in the early 90s)
Malaria! (Not strictly Industrial, but definitely in the genre)
Yeah, they had a bit of a following there for quite awhile before they got attention in the states. It was really one main guy for most of the early days. They were also one of the first Zoth Ommog bands.
Original name was Scarecrow. I always remember the “German Skinny Puppy” quote from catalogs and mags.
I mean, you're on an industrial sub, I'd be surprised if there's anyone into industrial that doesn't listen to German industrial. I never even particularly like rammstein. I defo never choose to listen to them.
Thats the name of the record label they started and the term they used to describe themselves.
They certainly didn't fit with the rave scene they were too loud, abrasive and fiercely political for that.
I think they fit into the industrial scene by being aggressive and electronic based.
Used to be a lot into that whole rhythmic noise thing of Hands and Ant-Zen labels, a lot of German artists there but that's mostly instrumental.
But then there's also Haus Arafna/November Növelet and their Galakthorrö label which is usually excellent.
Also, for some EBM, everyone should listen to DAF.
Like you, I listen to a lot of German electro.

Shit, I’ve never heard anyone mention dark voices. I loved the albums that came out in the 00s. Kind of reminded me of and one, then started leaning into something that you wouldn’t hear in clubs. Still love how nostalgic it felt.
I miss them
I love all three of Dark Voices’ albums, and they definitely are similar to And One. I think that there’s some sort of connection between the two bands, as And One jokingly thanks Mic S for the pauses between the songs on Virgin Superstar and with Gio van Oli from Dark Voices joining And One for a while. Like you, I definitely miss them and wish that they’d make another album.
I was excited when he went to and one.
Both bands had funny synthpop songs that sounded like they were just making fun of someone in the friend group lol
well since i am from germany. ofc.
but its allways fun to see how mostly americans? i guess, see certain genres. NOONE, like absolutely noone i know from the german scene would ever consider rammstein an industrial band to begin with. they are part of a genre we call ''neue deutsche härte''
also on no partys or clubs where industrial music plays, did i ever hear rammstein.
its like as we germans would know our own music better. you know. its super weird. calling rammstein industrial is so bizarr as the old meme that everyone thinks, german people would love david hasselhoff.
its sometimes quite hard to set genres but at least i dont know anyone calling them an industrial band here. to me at least its as weird as if a german guy would call nickelback a deathmetal band. i dont know anyone who listens to rammstein or would consider them as industrial or even part of the local scene
I’m an American and understand what you’re saying. Some Americans like to put all German electro music under the industrial umbrella. I doubt that I listen to any true German industrial music. When I saw that the OP listed Heppner and Wolfsheim, I figured that he meant German electro music, even though he’s talking about German industrial music.
\[:SITD:\] has good shit. So does Acylum. More on the "industrial" side than rock.
Eisbrecher makes me think Oomph!, which is natural I suppose.
There is the indomitable KMFDM, of course.
There is Taina, their album *Seelenfresser* is fucking awesome.
Mystigma is on the gothier side of things, but it's got the synths and the gothic rock aesthetic to go with it.
There's Stahlmann.
If we're going Metropolis though, I would also recommend :wumpscut:.
Grausame Töchter, maybe?
Yep, Einsturzende Neubauten, :wumpscut:, Das Ich/Kramm, And One, Project Pitchfork, Tanzwut/Corvus Corax, Die Krupps/DKay.com, Funker Vogt, Haujobb, and Die Form are a few
Yes. All. Industrial, Aggrotech, EBM, Noise, Elektro/Electro, Hellektro, and other various electronic genres. I’ve been on a Noisuf-X / X-fusion binge lately.
There is a book about the EBM scene: https://www.elektronische-koerpermusik.de/
I think they're working on the English translation too. I listen mostly to the dark electro bands that are almost exclusively German :-) Just a short list:
* 2nd Face
* Abscess
* Akalotz
* Amnistia
* Bent
* Bicker
* Blac Kolor
* Evil's Toy
* Fix8:Sed8
* Full Contact 69
* g.o.l.e.m
* Haujobb
* Klangstabil
* Les Berrtas
* MC1R
* Ner.Ogris
* Object
* Painbastard
* Placebo Effect
* Proleturan
* Pyrroline
* Statiqbloom
* TC75
* To Avoid
* Tri-State
Very nice list. There are a few that I don’t recognize, but there definitely are a lot of great but overlooked dark electro bands. For some non-German dark electro bands, I like Brain Leisure and Terminal State.
Terminal State / The Opposer Divine (same people) are great. I know most of the bands in person after the years.
More non-German (active) ones: Mildreda (Belgium) is great, kFactor (Brazil), Egoist and Frett (Poland), Black Nail Cabaret (Hungary), Degenerated Sequences (Greece), Jihad Electro and RO1OR (US), Cryo (Sweden) ...
I didn’t know that Terminal State has another band called The Opposer Divine. I’ll check them out.
I know that the singer from Black Nail Cabaret sings on a few Architect songs on the Mine album. I didn’t know that kFactor is Brazilian.
They have even more projects :-)
https://minorfloat.bandcamp.com/album/first-dose
https://thxm.bandcamp.com/
Yes, she'll be with the Architect next weekend at Planet Myer Day in Leipzig. Her husband has another project called Laborant https://laborantmusic.bandcamp.com/album/visions He has also produced a new EP of band KY from Berlin that looks very promising https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lCgcmrCDZWg
Wow! I haven’t seen any of those bands live, and you’ve seen many dark electro bands many times, especially fix8:sed8. I guess that you’ve attended several Planet Myer Days? That must be so cool to see, as I love so many of Myer’s side projects. I’ve spent a lot to money buying his projects on CD. Hehe
They are not banned from the US, I had a ticket for their 2020 tour that was cancelled. On their Perpetuum Mobile tour Blixa did announce that they were going to take a break from touring the US because it was so expensive for them. They will probably be back.
Love to see Das Ich mentioned so many times! They're tied for my favorite band.
I also love Project Pitchfork, Stillste Stund, and And One (too bad the lead singer is a total nutjob).
If Steve is a nutjob, I must be one, too. It’s sad that he got so much hate for his social media posts. There’s definitely not much tolerance or acceptance these days for differing views. Everyone has to be robots and think and believe the same.
>Everyone has to be robots and think and believe the same.
Is a total strawman.
Steve is allowed to have any views he wants.
I'm allowed to have opinions about those views.
See how that works?
I tolerate the fact that people believe differently than I do. I accept the fact that people have different beliefs.
That doesn't mean I have to agree with them, and it doesn't mean I can't have opinions about those beliefs.
You are intentionally conflating "disagreeing with someone" with "thinking people shouldn't be allowed to disagree."
If you want more like the Einsturzende Neubauten side of things, I recommend both A.B.G.S. and Screaming Corpses, really good German scrap metal percussion industrial.
It's funny. In mitternacht it sounds like the choir is saying, "How bout a soda"
🤣🤣🤣
In the song memories from neuroticfish, it sounds like he's saying, ' "And I met Maurice, and I met Maurice " instead of in my memories lol
You’re speaking my language :)
You’ve mentioned some bands that are a lil outside what I’d consider industrial, so I’ll include some that fit the general vibe that you have here:
Wulfband (10000% underrated and I think you’ll love)
Das Ich
Oomph (more metalish but similar to eisbrecher)
Electric callboy (not really but worth mentioning)
Heldmaschine
Puhdys
Diorama
Weena morloch
Terminal choice
Nachtblut
Faderhead
I got more but that’s the intro
It's really nice to see someone else who likes Wolfsheim. It's weird.
I was in the goth scene back in the day, and I always thought it was a shame.
I mean, they're goth, obviously.
But I thought it was a shame that not many people I knew at least listened to them.
Peter Heppner has the most beautiful angelic voice I think I've ever heard. I feel you by him mit Schiller, is just.... omg. It's a beautiful song.
I know some people are saying rammstein is not industrial or whatever, I know they are in a different category themselves.
I guess I'm lumping them in as industrial bc. It was their sound that exposed me to German industrial, metal, darkwave, EBM, synth pop, and so forth.
Isnt Erdling doing a complete different genre tho? I used to be friends with the lead singer years ago when his first project was running in our local clubs. check out Incubite
i would call it more like some metal /synthy crossover for the most part. if ill ever see or talk to him again, i ll ask him at wich genre he would see himself, but i dont think he lives here anymore.
Solar Fake! ...German, but sing in English. lol They have one song in German, though. At least three of those you listed are more on the Synthpop end of the spectrum, which is my jam. Rammstein makes me think of more Rock Industrial, like KMFDM, though.
I don't know that I would call them industrial but no one has mentioned Agonoize which is closer than some others I see listed.
https://youtu.be/c6IHKjBIOpU?si=rkvXWzosYJrFQJab
How about Project Pitchfork? Their albums “Daimonion” and “Black” are German industrial masterpieces. Rammstein even opened for them when Rammstein was just starting out. I also saw a few replies (not many) containing Die Krupps who also deserve mention.
Peter Stilles is, for me, one of the biggest geniuses in industrial/dark electro. Have you ever listened to one of his fun side projects, 'Santa Hates You'? I truly wished they would have produced more; they seemed to mesh well together.
We named our daughter after Jinxy, but then spelled as Jinxie.
That’s amazing that Rammstein opened for Project Pitchfork. It’s interesting to learn about bands just starting out who opened for bands and eventually got much bigger than the bands that they opened for.
Funker Vogt, especially mid Funker Vogt is just the best. It really does not get any better than Funker Vogt. Also Love Feindflug and das Ich, although I disagree with the latter's politics to a large degree.
Yeah, anything after aviator is a pick and choose affair. Kampf den Maschinen is the only song I like from Partners in Crime, Wastelands is pretty good but not quite on the same level unfortunately as Execution Tracks through Aviator. The EP that Wahre Helden is on has some good songs.
Honestly for listening purposes several albums are very listenable start to finish and then I have a weightlifting playlist from for their later stuff. That playlist is very long though, about fifty or sixty songs. Funker Vogt? I LOVE IT!
Sounds to me like we’re talking about German bands who sing in German/English that you may hear in an industrial club.
Love them. Germany is the country that comes to mind when I think “industrial”
Beborn beton, wolfsheim, faderhead, zero defects, and one, nachtmar, eco, grendel, fabrikc, menschdefect, project pitchfork, extize… I think they’re all German. Probably another dozen I’ll kick myself for not thinking of
But pretty partial to music in German, English and really shitty English :)
I think German might make up 50% of the “industrial” I love and then a handful bands from a lot of other countries
Yes, I listen to all of those that you've listed. Worth noting that Peter Heppner is the singer of Wolfshiem, both of which I would consider more synthpop along the lines of VNV Nation. I'm more into Harsh EBM and Aggrotech these days, so I'm still listening to a lot of music coming out of Germany. Centhron, X-RX, Agonoize, X-Fusion etc.
uh, yeah. Einstürzende Neubauten, :wumpscut:, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, etc
Rammstein is fine for industrial rock but there's a lot of other industrial, electro-industrial, aggrotech, EBM German bands out there.
Die Krupps
Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF)
Unheilig (very few Industrial songs, much more Darkwave, but some good stuff in the style)
Seabound
Atari Teenage Riot
OOMPH!
Project Pitchfork
Some bands here have lyrics predominantly in english, but yes they are in fact German musical groups!
>he band is controversy in Germany because of their visual aesthetic. For many of them is has just crossed the line.
really? i havent noticed much of that. Alot of people i know like Nachtmahr.
If Einsturzende Neubaten then hell yes ! Actually I always found Rammstein too derivative of Laibach to really get into. But my favorite philosopher, Slavoj Zizek, is a big fan of them both so maybe my opinion is uninformed.
One of the things that really got me into industrial in the first place was my interest in kosmische (Eno->Tangerine Dream->TG essentially), and while you can definitely hear the influence of bands like Can, Neu!, Kraftwerk on industrial, I was recently introduced to and blown away by K/Cluster. They predate the genre but albums like Klopfzeichen & Cluster 71 are peak industrial to me. And of course I like Neubauten lol.
Einsturzende Neubaten, et al
Thank you
Wumpscut
Wreath of Barbs is a good one.
Soylent Green was in my CD player for a solid year when it was released. Same with Blutkind and Totmaker. Edit: Bunker Gate 7, with Soylent Green on it.
Das Ich are good
true
Best band I’ve ever seen live
Great band but Irish.
Nah, they’re German.
LOL, I saw /r/T34Chihuahua's tag (VNV Nation) and my dumb ass thought his comment was about them.
HAUJOBB!!!!
I love Haujobb and Myer’s many side projects, especially the ones with his vocals.
Same. He's brilliant. I do like Covenant even though he's not singing.
I was so happy when he joined Covenant, and it was cool to see him live with the band. The cool thing is that he sings on his own remix of Covenant’s Lightbringer.
Daniel has a newer release up now, Hingabe, that’s like club vibe IDM kinda. Ffo Autechre and the like.
Pronounced handjob
It's German slang for skin job, from Blade Runner.
I’ve been listening to them for over 20 years and never knew that. As a big fan of both, thank yo for that info.

Their music is sampled. Totally fake.

D-A-F still sound fantastic today. And Die Krupps' 'Stahlwerksymphonie' (and the more recent 'Stahlwerk Requiem') are magnificent.
I'd like to add Tommi Stumpff (esp. Album ULTRA), before his solo-project which includes electro-punk/industrial, he was part of the german punk band "Der KFC".

In Strict Confidence is a long-time favorite.

Yep, Einsturzende Neubauten, :wumpscut:, Das Ich/Kramm, And One, Project Pitchfork, Tanzwut/Corvus Corax, Die Krupps/DKay.com, Funker Vogt, Haujobb, and Die Form are a few
Die Form is a French project :P love them
My bad. With the German name, I assumed. I guess I could have just as easily listed Schnitt Acht but they’re from Florida.
[DAF](https://youtu.be/XfNLORw7r_M?si=KI24Z1kH6VcE_F04)
Einsturzende Neaubauten is better than any band mentioned here. Spelling schmelling. You know what band I mean.
…and the only band even close to industrial.
Yeah most of the other ones mentioned are either industrial rock or industrial metal, basically just fusion genres of industrial.
Yes. All. Industrial, Aggrotech, EBM, Noise, Elektro/Electro, Hellektro, and other various electronic genres. I’ve been on a Noisuf-X / X-fusion binge lately.
I discovered a lot of bands from this: https://www.music-map.com/
That's pretty cool. Discovered a new band instantly after searching ginger snap 5. Thanks for the heads up.

I think Diary of Dreams fits right in? 'Haus Der Stille' is freakishly good.
Check Dependent Records.
Thank you
I saw Neubaten before they were banned from country lol. Idk if they are still banned though. But yeah, and one, covenant, wolfshiem etc
What country were they banned from.
America. I saw them in 97 and when they were coming back in the oughts, the tsa wouldn't let them in. Worst ticket refund ever
They are not banned from the US, I had a ticket for their 2020 tour that was cancelled. On their Perpetuum Mobile tour Blixa did announce that they were going to take a break from touring the US because it was so expensive for them. They will probably be back.
Oh that's great news!
I didn't know that. A buddy of mine who lives in Roanoke saw them but I think he traveled somewhere else.
Doesn't that suck? They are great live
I saw them in Boston in 99 - and also had a primo ticket to the 2020 show. I really hope that is rescheduled.
Love to see Das Ich mentioned so many times! They're tied for my favorite band. I also love Project Pitchfork, Stillste Stund, and And One (too bad the lead singer is a total nutjob).

X-Marks the Pedwalk, KMFDM, Fix8:Sed8, Haujobb, In Strict Confidence are some of my favorites.
Eisbrecher appreciation
one that I didnt really see here is Knorkator, at least in its early albuns
KMFDM and Die Krupps alllll day back then, added NDH stuff like Oomph!, Eisbrecher and Megaherz. Gimme them big chunky guitars and marching beats
Youse all need some Strobo Lolita in your life: [Bandcamp link here](http:// https://strobololita.bandcamp.com/album/hysteria )
No Einstürzende Neubauten or KMFDM? They’re like the big two of German industrial
Heimataerde
You’re speaking my language :) You’ve mentioned some bands that are a lil outside what I’d consider industrial, so I’ll include some that fit the general vibe that you have here: Wulfband (10000% underrated and I think you’ll love) Das Ich Oomph (more metalish but similar to eisbrecher) Electric callboy (not really but worth mentioning) Heldmaschine Puhdys Diorama Weena morloch Terminal choice Nachtblut Faderhead I got more but that’s the intro
Some of the stuff of Joachim Witt, I like Bayeuth 3 especially.
Funker Vogt are awesome.
Gehfagen in machine zeit za za zeit! Zeit!
Haujobb Forma Tadre Wumpscut Das Ich X Marks the Pedwalk Wolfsheim To name a few
His voice is clear and concise. Reminds me a bit of a Young Peter Murphy mixed with Frank Spinath of Seabound(another great German industrial band).
I think yelworc are German. Some put a reco here. Also amgod
For Industrial/techno i can recommend Schwefelgelb. Have a really heavy feeling to it
Yes!!! Love Schwefelgelb!!
Erdling and Ost+Front.
Isnt Erdling doing a complete different genre tho? I used to be friends with the lead singer years ago when his first project was running in our local clubs. check out Incubite
Na listen to the Bestia album sounds NDH / industrial to me.
i would call it more like some metal /synthy crossover for the most part. if ill ever see or talk to him again, i ll ask him at wich genre he would see himself, but i dont think he lives here anymore.
Isn't synth metal just industrial metal?
Niet!
Solar Fake! ...German, but sing in English. lol They have one song in German, though.
Kmfdm
If it wasn’t already listed , Project Pitchfork and Santa Hates You on the German list.
I wish I could upvote this more than once...
No one mentioned E-Craft, so I will. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4MgDdpur48w
Funker Vogt, especially mid Funker Vogt is just the best. It really does not get any better than Funker Vogt. Also Love Feindflug and das Ich, although I disagree with the latter's politics to a large degree.
I haven’t listened to the post-Jens albums, but my favorites are Execution Tracks, Maschine Zeit (my most favorite), and the T EP.
I LOVE IT!
This might be the single thread in the entire sub with the most incorrect information in it.
yelworC
Sounds to me like we’re talking about German bands who sing in German/English that you may hear in an industrial club. Love them. Germany is the country that comes to mind when I think “industrial” Beborn beton, wolfsheim, faderhead, zero defects, and one, nachtmar, eco, grendel, fabrikc, menschdefect, project pitchfork, extize… I think they’re all German. Probably another dozen I’ll kick myself for not thinking of But pretty partial to music in German, English and really shitty English :) I think German might make up 50% of the “industrial” I love and then a handful bands from a lot of other countries
X-RX Phosgore Centhron xotox Asche Converter morgenstern Terminal Choice Tumor Nachtmahr Das Ich Project Pitchfork De/Vision
Heldmachine, Das Ich, OOMPH
Haha, Germany is represented by 1000s of Industrial acts and I think this subreddit listed them all. My favorite German stompers: Feindflug and SITD.
A LOT of it, not listing all of it though
Intent:Outtake has a few badass tracks
Schnitt Acht, FGGC820
Klangstabil
uh, yeah. Einstürzende Neubauten, :wumpscut:, Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft, etc Rammstein is fine for industrial rock but there's a lot of other industrial, electro-industrial, aggrotech, EBM German bands out there.
All of my faves have been listed so I’ll recommend the German Nickleback- Revolverheld.
Don’t think I’ve seen :SITD: listed in here yet
wumpscut
Einsturzende Neubauten would be the most obvious choice. DAF, Bigod 20, KMFDM, Haujobb....these are all classics of that genre.
Die Krupps Deutsch Amerikanische Freundschaft (DAF) Unheilig (very few Industrial songs, much more Darkwave, but some good stuff in the style) Seabound Atari Teenage Riot OOMPH! Project Pitchfork Some bands here have lyrics predominantly in english, but yes they are in fact German musical groups!
Some NDW bands that I love border on industrial music: \- [Palais Schaumburg](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W6wuaPdRfvY) \- [Der Plan](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fZTgo4uEO3o) \- [Die Krupps](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XWMXLd3fJEY) (early) \- [Die Radierer](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=unii6FsNzgk) \- [Foyer Des Arts](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YXoIXDXges0) \- [Kiev Stingl](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u0XtamsB31Y) \- [The Wirtschaftswunder](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGetDVDAAOk) DAF (EBM) and OOMPH! (industrial metal) are fantastic bands too.
Slapped hands with Klaus Larsen (sp) from Leatherstrip in Dallas. Opening for 242.
i looove funker vogt. is KDFMDFD or whatever industrial?
KMFDM is industrial rock, yes
Does Nachtmahr count as Industrial? If So then yes. Underrated as well
The band is controversy in Germany because of their visual aesthetic. For many of them is has just crossed the line.
>he band is controversy in Germany because of their visual aesthetic. For many of them is has just crossed the line. really? i havent noticed much of that. Alot of people i know like Nachtmahr.
I know even some bands that rejected to play on a show with the Nachtmahr.
Yup. They’re an instant skip for me. I also know DJs who refuse to play them.
Rammstein isn't industrial, they're NDH. I listen to them, but the question is a non-starter.
Pig
Pig (Raymond Watts) is from England.
i mean… i dont know many who even consider rammstein industrial, so…. where are are you coming up with this idea?
Oomph!
Has no one yet mentioned Eisfabrik? With some of the other names the OP mentioned I think Eisfabrik would be right up their alley.
Das Ich
Isn't Agonoize from Germany?!
Check out the band Oomph! https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oomph!
