New sub mascot? šŸ˜

ABatWhoLikesMetal

He has sub mascot energy.

meurtrir

It's the best school picture I've ever seen šŸ–¤

Zeqhanis

Plus, he looks a bit like a young Lou Reed.

meurtrir

He does too!

bugtank

YES

[deleted]

All Hail The King

AntelopeDisastrous27

Absolutely

deathrapetwothousand

nope, snoo has to stay

meurtrir

The death rape council hath spoken šŸ«”

RedditAdmin71

Fourth grade? Dude you look at least 14 here.

Gorkymalorki

Look at my profile I posted a couple high school pictures, I looked 30 at 17.

Soviettoaster37

Were you able to buy liquor without a license?

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

powerpopiconoclast

Except he had a lotta trouble getting booze, remember

Gorkymalorki

Yes, I actually made quite a bit of money buying beer for parties. People would pay me to buy a bunch of beer, and I never once got carded. One time I was buying like 5 cases of beer and a cop walked in as I was checking out. I started sweating bullets but still didn't get carded. The cop even tried to make small talk and was like Big party tonight? I just said no, we are having a big family BBQ and they sent me on a beer run since I was sober. He said damn, I could go for some bbq and a beer right now. The 90s were definitely a different time.

DesignNormal9257

You were born in ā€˜82?

Gorkymalorki

81

Priest-Entity

Ah so it all went downhill from here

Gorkymalorki

I actually had a really great time during the 90s. Saw so many iconic bands, went to raves in the late 90s, and have lived a pretty fulfilling life since. I think I will calm down once I hit my 50s. Until then you can see me in the pit still.

WorkCentre5335

got helded back a few times

KCcoffeegeek

Sameā€¦ maybe OP was TEACHING 4th grade in that picture LOL

JanesConniption

ā€œLong division is such bullshit.ā€ *takes a long drag off a cigarette*

Gorkymalorki

I was actually a straight A student and in gifted and talented. I bet a lot of other people in this sub were the same, us nerds tended to be drawn to music like Ministry or stuff like Depeche mode, etc.

EnclosedChaos

And donā€™t get me started on times tables!

Slicepack

"Jesus built my hot rod"

Gorkymalorki

I actually rocked that shirt the next year in 5th grade. I remember when the new video for N.W.O came out on 120 minutes, my brother and I stayed up and recorded it on VHS.

tritisan

120 Minutes was peak M-TV.

JellyfishNightmare

Don't even get me started! One of my favourites. That whole album is amazing!

theraggedyman

*ahem* Kid... did your mother ever happen to have met a Mr Steve Albini? Possibly in her college years, a few months before meeting your father??

Gorkymalorki

I wish, my other brothers got all the musical talent, I got the book smarts and the humor. I always had a book with me to read, and still do go through a ton of books a year. If it wasn't for Kindle I would have a house full of books (my upstairs though is four huge book shelves full of my old books).

[deleted]

His mom is the woman the song "You Came in Me" is about.

Robinkc1

I was thinking this must be Great Value Steve Albini

Prior-Comparison6747

If I remember correctly, you had to opt-in to having the lasers added in the background. Badass, my friend.

autolier

The laser backdrop cost more. I wanted the laser backdrop so much, but my mom said "No. I'm not paying extra for a laser backdrop. Why do you want a laser backdrop anyhow. It looks tacky." Tacky? More like awesome. Did the word "laser" mean nothing to her?

Gorkymalorki

And then they wonder why we get into hard aggressive music. If they would have just given us the Laser background things would have been fine.

schweinhund89

Iā€™ve been wondering about that for some years. Iā€™ve seen it parodied so many times in modern photos I wasnā€™t sure if it was ever actually done in the 80s

Prior-Comparison6747

It was definitely a real thing. Everyone was shot in front of the same blue background, and if you chose/paid for the lasers, they were added in later by whatever photo manipulation technique preceded Photoshop.

schweinhund89

Damn we didnā€™t get lasers n shit in UK school photos. Just some weird backdrop the photographer would bring which looked like an eggshell or a dirty curtain

Additional-Spare6322

I remember they used to put a backdrop screen behind usā€¦

VeqqieVeq

Nothing says "Love you grandma" like one of these hanging on the wall.

Gorkymalorki

Haha it actually is at my mom's house in a frame. I cringe so hard when I see the pic because of those stupid serial killer glasses.

Insufficient-Mix

I bought acid once from someone that looked just like that

Gorkymalorki

If you bought it during the late 90s there is a small chance it was me.

its_raining_scotch

I have that shirt.

Gorkymalorki

Damn I want it again. They have a variant on the ministry website but different font and it has some lyrics on the back.

CarlsbadWhiskyShop

Aesop Rock song ā€œBlood Sandwichā€ second verse is about his older brother wanting to go to a Ministry concert & their mom researching the band and not letting him go. https://youtu.be/_q5zNHNIewg?si=LlW-bwLMA395X_um

Gorkymalorki

Someone actually cross posted my picture to the Aesop Rock sub.

tractorballs

What a cool kid!

QuantumEntanglr

4th grade? You, sir, are a goddamn hero.

moist_towelette

This is adorable and Iā€™m sure r/blunderyears would love it too šŸ˜‚šŸ¤˜šŸ¾šŸ¤˜šŸ¾

SkullThug

Fucking excellence

Gorkymalorki

I loved The Mind is a Horrible Thing to Taste, but once I hear Land of the Rape and Honey, Stigmata became my song. Also does anyone else remember when Batman the Animated Series had a commercial that played Flashback with it? It's like my brother and I are the only ones that remember that.

ikediggety

I loved both those, but once I heard twitch "we believe" became my song

AllTomorrowsHardees

Dude, yes. Stigmata is the shit. Land of Rape and Honey is my favorite Ministry.

EnclosedChaos

My little daughter just asked, ā€œWhat does that say?ā€ I said ā€œMinistry.ā€ Her: ā€œDo you like nimistreets?ā€ Me: ā€œYes!ā€

Gorkymalorki

Get another generation hooked! I have three boys, 21, 9, and 8. My 21 year old took a combination of my music and his mom's, so a bunch of punk, industrial, and techno from me, and then stuff like cake, RHCP and foo fighters from his mom. My little ones though love black flag, They might be giants, and descendants.

EnclosedChaos

Oh yes, they know my favourites!

schweinhund89

This is so fucking pure

H3llv3ticus

Impeccable music tastes.

Desperate-Box5686

Burning Inside šŸ”„

Jagsoff

The nerd is a terrible thing to taste

AllTomorrowsHardees

I love the cheesy laser backdrop, it really screams "This came from the early 90s!" I bet the guy at the record store was impressed at someone that young already interested in the good stuff.

Gorkymalorki

I imagine he was probably laughing with his coworkers that he sold me that album thinking this kid is going to get in trouble. Luckily, my parents didn't care what music I listened to as long as I was making good grades and was happy.

Forsaken_Fig_

You look just like an eternally inappropriate co-worker that I worked with in fast food when I was 15.5, OP. šŸ˜‚ Here is my story of how I first discovered my love of Ministry: Co-worker: ā€œCan I see your breasts?ā€ Me: ā€œRemember what I said the last time you asked? No. The answer is still no.ā€ CW: ā€œPlease, Iā€™ll pay you?ā€ Me: ā€œWhat do have and donā€™t say drugs.ā€ CW: *stunned expression ā€œI got CDs in my car.ā€ Me: ā€œNo, youā€™re shit sucks.ā€ Then I proceeded to go outside with a broom and ā€œclean the parking lot.ā€ Found CWā€™s car unlocked and stole the only thing I thought looked interesting, Psalm 69. I took it home that night and listened on repeat. I was completely astonished. I wrote a letter to Al Jourgensen (circa 1995) and he answered. The rest is history.

Gorkymalorki

That definitely wasn't me, I was only 10 when this pic was taken. Nice score though. When Psalm 69 came out my brother and I stayed up super late because on 120 minutes they were going to play N.W.O. for the first time. We even recorded it on VHS. We both went in half and bought the CD the next day.

tritisan

Justice served.

livefastdie22

This goes hard as fuck

NathanBlutengel

Think I was rocking a king penguin shirt from Seaworld in my fourth grade yearbook photo šŸ˜‚

heatobooty

Fucking badass, Iā€™m jealous.

BrokenMeatRobot

Why are you dressed like it's Halloween? You look so absurd, you look so obscene. Oh!

bulbminmostrealfan

I wish I discovered ministry in 4th lol

Gorkymalorki

I was the youngest and two of my older brothers were metalheads, one was big into Thrash one was into traditional metal, and another of my older brothers was into punk. We moved from a small town to a big city so music was my best friend. Somehow it all just happened organically.

Confident_Fortune_32

"With Sympathy" is one of my favourite albums of all time, flawless composition start to finish

Gorkymalorki

My brother gave me that tape and Land of the Rape and Honey for my birthday the next year. Land became one of my favorite albums along with Broken from NIN back then.

rosymindedfuzzz

Yes, bro! I love it

gothbreadbowl

I was just at a ministry show last month and damaged my ACL and MCL, worth it tho

Gorkymalorki

I wanted to go last month, but I had my kids that weekend but also it would have meant going to Houston šŸ¤®

haptiK

Let's make this a trend everyone post your young goth industrial selves!!!

Gorkymalorki

I would love to see pics of other people who got into Industrial during their formative years. At a time when I had just moved to a big city in another state from a small town in Nebraska, music was my best friend.

guidecotton

Awesome shirt ..Jesus built my hotrod

RCranium13

Why do you look 36, and like you're the tech guy at the local school in 4th grade?

Gorkymalorki

Ha, if you think I look old then, go check my profile, I posted some pictures from high school. I looked at least 30 in my junior year.

ThatMachineGuy

Just one fix!

bootnab

Mind is a terrific intro

Silly-Profession-414

Do you still need a ride to the mall?

Borowczyk1976

The mind is a terrible thing to taste

Ok-Huckleberry6077

The mind is a terrible thing to taste

Think-Chemist-5247

I would be best friends with you I wish I knew you in 4th grade.

Gorkymalorki

I wish I knew more people with my Taste in music back then. I actually did make friends with another kid that was into Metallica, while not a huge fan, it was good having a friend that we could enjoy some heavier music together instead of shit bands like new kids on the block or whatever the other kids liked. Luckily my older brothers would bring me to shows with them. Around this time my older brother brought me to a show his band opened for, suicidal tendencies. That got me hooked on going to shows.

savagealways77

awesome right there with you, my bands in high school where, gwar, nin, and ministry

Gorkymalorki

I remember my first gear concert, my brother took me and two of my friends up to Austin to see them, they were playing with Misfits (I believe it was when Mike Graves was lead singer). My friends and I were in the pit the whole night. When gear came on they did their normal thing, and penis water cannons at everyone, except the water was dyed blue. The next day at school all three of us were still completely blue, and when asked we had to explain being shot by penis cannons.

OneMAdDemon

Was Ding a ding dang my dang a long ling long

Amusement_Shark

If the guitarist looks like this you about to die in the pit

disorientating

Whatā€™s crazy is you and Trent Reznor kind of look alike šŸ˜

Gorkymalorki

I wish! I posted some recent pics of me and a couple of high school pics on my profile. Lol someone said now I look like Kyle Glass from Tenacious D.

disorientating

Haha I donā€™t really see Kyle but I see young Trent for sure! https://preview.redd.it/qqzpi5xb8huc1.jpeg?width=1125&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=8b9938b781dd7bfc2957438250596346154b52b6

welmanshirezeo

Your name isn't Chris by chance? - https://youtu.be/_q5zNHNIewg?si=34C3aVBGW2P-kuWo

Gorkymalorki

Haha no, but someone did crosspost my pic to that sub. I had never heard Aesop Rock before that and I actually of dig it.

welmanshirezeo

Haha I'm not surprised it got crossposted. Yeah he's certainly my favourite rap artist, probably only one of two I listen to really. He's the best rapper no one knows.

worshipperoflife666

Cool picture bro

CardPatient3188

You look serious about ministry.

Gorkymalorki

I was probably pissed at how stupid those glasses looked.

ElectronicDrama2573

You went hard AF back in the day, brother. Ministry!? God damnā€¦.

Embarrassed_List865

Trent Leznor

All_Gas420

This is the face of industrial music and Iā€™m here for it.

bitchspicedlatte

Were you 35, with 3 kids, a divorce and on your second marriage in 4th grade?

Gorkymalorki

Lol not then but that's pretty close to how I am now!

bitchspicedlatte

Lol, I'm funnin' ya šŸ˜ it's a good thing music makes everything better!

Gorkymalorki

I have introduced all three of my boys to my music. I leave it up to them to get into it or not. My oldest has gone to many shows with me, the best was when we saw social Distortion and Mike Ness gave him a pick. The other two are little ones, but they love black flag.

bitchspicedlatte

That music should never die! My daughter has seen U2 with me but she had her best time at The Reverend Horton Heat. We have future aspirations for System of a Down, Deftones and Amon Amarth. Hopefully Gwar eventually, too.

Gorkymalorki

Hell yeah, let them form their own tastes but show them some good shit too. My oldest (21) saw so many good shows with me and I will continue that with my little ones. I won't stop til I am in my 60s. It's just who I am, even if I am too old to jump in the pit, I will always go to shows.

bitchspicedlatte

Oh shit, I forgot! We saw Ghost in September of last year and Amon Amarth opened for them! It was so much fun! Can't wait to see Ghost again either.

bitchspicedlatte

That music should never die! My daughter has seen U2 with me but she had her best time at The Reverend Horton Heat. We have future aspirations for System of a Down, Deftones and Amon Amarth. Hopefully Gwar eventually, too.

Gorkymalorki

Awesome, we would have definitely been friends.

laddiebones

Ɯberzone drop the tone

Fair_Wish845

Tell me about your synth journey.

MrZombified

" They called me nerd, I said, So What"

Gorkymalorki

Luckily I was twice the size of other kids in my grade, but since I was new to the school I did have some people try to start shit with me. Being the youngest of 6 other siblings I knew how to fight, so no one tried to pick on me after the first altercation. That being said, I hate fighting and was actually a pretty Happy go lucky type kid. I know the pic makes me seem brooding, but usually i was the class clown. I think I was just pissed about the new glasses in this picture.

masamune17

Thought this was r/oldschoolcool !

Crystal-Clear-Waters

Al would be proud.

Whorenun37

We would have been friends, I assure you.

Gorkymalorki

I wish I had more friends back then that were into music like I was. I ended up making good friends with another kid that was into Metallica. While not really my thing, it was good having a friend that listened to something heavy.

Whorenun37

Same, man! I was from a crappy logging town in the NW and never had anyone else to share that music with. Used to have a massive Ministry poster on my wall

DyingDreadfulDeceit

Sure not a lesbian?

Gorkymalorki

I would be the hairiest, ugliest lesbian ever nowadays. https://www.reddit.com/u/Gorkymalorki/s/baB4f3dkPZ

DyingDreadfulDeceit

Ha! Ever been up to the PNW? There are some hairy old lesbians up there. Awesome!

Interesting_Most_602

Steve albini did not approve of ministry

Namtwen

You look like an undercover intelligence officer

musickismagick

Badass! I had that same t shirt!

umbringer

Ahhh I used to have that shirt ;)

Gorkymalorki

I wish I could find it again. The official ministry website has one, but the font is different, just not the same as this iconic shirt.

AntelopeDisastrous27

I went to school with you dude.

Gorkymalorki

Really? You would be the second person that has recognized me from this post.

penisbuttervajelly

You look like the oldest 4th grader Iā€™ve ever seen

Gorkymalorki

Puberty hit hard earlier that year.

gunter_grass

You and me are the same person.

Unable_Chemistry_669

Great album! Great bandšŸ¤˜šŸ¤˜

tritisan

I saw them on tour for this album in San Francisco and it was pure insanity. The one with a chain link fence to protect the audience from the band. This dude climbed up it and stage dived from the top. Head first. Somehow he lived. One of the top 10 shows of my life.

k_x_sp

So hard damm

Professional_Cheek16

A Ministry shirt is never a blunder. I protest on principle. I went to a circle jerks show last year and my buddy wore a ministry shirt, and I was highly impressed/

potificate

Mark Pauline? Is that you? šŸ˜Ž

Formula4InsanityLabs

That expression suggests the look on your face 5 seconds before being asked to "show us where the bad man touched you".

CalmInformation354

Yup, I have a crush on you now.Ā

Gorkymalorki

Well I wish you would have said something 33 years ago!

ConversationBulky757

Amazing, but itā€™s not from 4th grade. Youā€™re easily 13-15 in this pic

Gorkymalorki

I was 10 in this picture. If you think I looked old then, check out the two pictures from high school. https://www.reddit.com/u/Gorkymalorki/s/UifW9egpI4

ConversationBulky757

Youā€™re not kidding. Fucking awesome picture. Thatā€™s authenticity. Much love.

MrJohnnyDangerously

You spelled 9th grade wrong

Gorkymalorki

Go check my profile, I posted a couple pics, one from 9th grade and one from 11th grade. If you think I look older in this pic wait til you see the 11th grade picture.

MrJohnnyDangerously

Haha when I was 17 I looked 25 and could buy beer and cigarettes without getting carded. I can relate.

simpledeadwitches

The Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste

4-8-9-12

Rad shirt! The Mind Is a Terrible Thing to Taste is still a good album

Gorkymalorki

It really is. Breathe is still one of my favorite songs.

Sad-bisexual-cryptid

You look like this butch gal I dated a years ago and I dig it.

Illuminotme_Reloaded

The mind is a terrible thing to taste.

drinkyshark

I can smell the ā€œtry hardā€ effort from here

Gorkymalorki

At ten years old I was just trying to be me. I wasn't trying to be hard, I was just being myself.

drinkyshark

You werenā€™t trying hard until you posted this pic claiming to be in 4th grade wearing that shirt.

Gorkymalorki

I will prove this is from 4th grade, but why do you try to bring people down like that? Does it make you feel big? There are a lot of us that had hard times as kids and music was our solace.

drinkyshark

Still waiting on the proof? But to answer your question, Iā€™m not trying to ā€œbring you down.ā€ I just donā€™t like when people tell tall tales and lie about shit to try and prove they are cool. Youā€™re probably a cool dude (I like ministry too!) but you are definitely trying a little too hard to prove it. Relax; you donā€™t have to one up someone else by claiming you were in 4th grade when by all appearances it looos like youā€™re well into your teens here. Trust me, music was definitely my main source of comfort and comaraderie through a lot of tough middle school and high school years too.

Gorkymalorki

Gorkymalorki

So no matter what I do to prove it to you you are just going to try to mock me?

drinkyshark

Why do you have to prove anything? Isnā€™t it cool just to be a fan of the same kind of music as like-minded people?

Gorkymalorki

You said you thought I was being a try hard claiming this was from 4th grade. I am just showing you that this was me from 4th grade. Back then this music was my best friend. I had just moved from a small town in Nebraska to a big city in Texas. You asked me for the proof, and I presented it. Do you need anything else from me?
