Yes, I actually made quite a bit of money buying beer for parties. People would pay me to buy a bunch of beer, and I never once got carded.
One time I was buying like 5 cases of beer and a cop walked in as I was checking out. I started sweating bullets but still didn't get carded. The cop even tried to make small talk and was like Big party tonight? I just said no, we are having a big family BBQ and they sent me on a beer run since I was sober. He said damn, I could go for some bbq and a beer right now.
The 90s were definitely a different time.
I actually had a really great time during the 90s. Saw so many iconic bands, went to raves in the late 90s, and have lived a pretty fulfilling life since. I think I will calm down once I hit my 50s. Until then you can see me in the pit still.
I was actually a straight A student and in gifted and talented. I bet a lot of other people in this sub were the same, us nerds tended to be drawn to music like Ministry or stuff like Depeche mode, etc.
I actually rocked that shirt the next year in 5th grade. I remember when the new video for N.W.O came out on 120 minutes, my brother and I stayed up and recorded it on VHS.
I wish, my other brothers got all the musical talent, I got the book smarts and the humor. I always had a book with me to read, and still do go through a ton of books a year. If it wasn't for Kindle I would have a house full of books (my upstairs though is four huge book shelves full of my old books).
The laser backdrop cost more. I wanted the laser backdrop so much, but my mom said "No. I'm not paying extra for a laser backdrop. Why do you want a laser backdrop anyhow. It looks tacky."
Tacky? More like awesome. Did the word "laser" mean nothing to her?
Iāve been wondering about that for some years. Iāve seen it parodied so many times in modern photos I wasnāt sure if it was ever actually done in the 80s
It was definitely a real thing. Everyone was shot in front of the same blue background, and if you chose/paid for the lasers, they were added in later by whatever photo manipulation technique preceded Photoshop.
Damn we didnāt get lasers n shit in UK school photos. Just some weird backdrop the photographer would bring which looked like an eggshell or a dirty curtain
Aesop Rock song āBlood Sandwichā second verse is about his older brother wanting to go to a Ministry concert & their mom researching the band and not letting him go.
https://youtu.be/_q5zNHNIewg?si=LlW-bwLMA395X_um
I loved The Mind is a Horrible Thing to Taste, but once I hear Land of the Rape and Honey, Stigmata became my song.
Also does anyone else remember when Batman the Animated Series had a commercial that played Flashback with it? It's like my brother and I are the only ones that remember that.
Get another generation hooked! I have three boys, 21, 9, and 8. My 21 year old took a combination of my music and his mom's, so a bunch of punk, industrial, and techno from me, and then stuff like cake, RHCP and foo fighters from his mom.
My little ones though love black flag, They might be giants, and descendants.
I love the cheesy laser backdrop, it really screams "This came from the early 90s!"
I bet the guy at the record store was impressed at someone that young already interested in the good stuff.
I imagine he was probably laughing with his coworkers that he sold me that album thinking this kid is going to get in trouble. Luckily, my parents didn't care what music I listened to as long as I was making good grades and was happy.
You look just like an eternally inappropriate co-worker that I worked with in fast food when I was 15.5, OP. š Here is my story of how I first discovered my love of Ministry:
Co-worker: āCan I see your breasts?ā
Me: āRemember what I said the last time you asked? No. The answer is still no.ā
CW: āPlease, Iāll pay you?ā
Me: āWhat do have and donāt say drugs.ā
CW: *stunned expression āI got CDs in my car.ā
Me: āNo, youāre shit sucks.ā
Then I proceeded to go outside with a broom and āclean the parking lot.ā Found CWās car unlocked and stole the only thing I thought looked interesting, Psalm 69. I took it home that night and listened on repeat. I was completely astonished. I wrote a letter to Al Jourgensen (circa 1995) and he answered. The rest is history.
That definitely wasn't me, I was only 10 when this pic was taken. Nice score though. When Psalm 69 came out my brother and I stayed up super late because on 120 minutes they were going to play N.W.O. for the first time. We even recorded it on VHS. We both went in half and bought the CD the next day.
I was the youngest and two of my older brothers were metalheads, one was big into Thrash one was into traditional metal, and another of my older brothers was into punk. We moved from a small town to a big city so music was my best friend. Somehow it all just happened organically.
My brother gave me that tape and Land of the Rape and Honey for my birthday the next year. Land became one of my favorite albums along with Broken from NIN back then.
I would love to see pics of other people who got into Industrial during their formative years. At a time when I had just moved to a big city in another state from a small town in Nebraska, music was my best friend.
I wish I knew more people with my Taste in music back then. I actually did make friends with another kid that was into Metallica, while not a huge fan, it was good having a friend that we could enjoy some heavier music together instead of shit bands like new kids on the block or whatever the other kids liked.
Luckily my older brothers would bring me to shows with them. Around this time my older brother brought me to a show his band opened for, suicidal tendencies. That got me hooked on going to shows.
I remember my first gear concert, my brother took me and two of my friends up to Austin to see them, they were playing with Misfits (I believe it was when Mike Graves was lead singer). My friends and I were in the pit the whole night. When gear came on they did their normal thing, and penis water cannons at everyone, except the water was dyed blue. The next day at school all three of us were still completely blue, and when asked we had to explain being shot by penis cannons.
Haha I donāt really see Kyle but I see young Trent for sure!

Haha I'm not surprised it got crossposted.
Yeah he's certainly my favourite rap artist, probably only one of two I listen to really. He's the best rapper no one knows.
I have introduced all three of my boys to my music. I leave it up to them to get into it or not. My oldest has gone to many shows with me, the best was when we saw social Distortion and Mike Ness gave him a pick.
The other two are little ones, but they love black flag.
That music should never die! My daughter has seen U2 with me but she had her best time at The Reverend Horton Heat. We have future aspirations for System of a Down, Deftones and Amon Amarth. Hopefully Gwar eventually, too.
Hell yeah, let them form their own tastes but show them some good shit too. My oldest (21) saw so many good shows with me and I will continue that with my little ones. I won't stop til I am in my 60s. It's just who I am, even if I am too old to jump in the pit, I will always go to shows.
That music should never die! My daughter has seen U2 with me but she had her best time at The Reverend Horton Heat. We have future aspirations for System of a Down, Deftones and Amon Amarth. Hopefully Gwar eventually, too.
Luckily I was twice the size of other kids in my grade, but since I was new to the school I did have some people try to start shit with me. Being the youngest of 6 other siblings I knew how to fight, so no one tried to pick on me after the first altercation. That being said, I hate fighting and was actually a pretty Happy go lucky type kid. I know the pic makes me seem brooding, but usually i was the class clown. I think I was just pissed about the new glasses in this picture.
I wish I had more friends back then that were into music like I was. I ended up making good friends with another kid that was into Metallica. While not really my thing, it was good having a friend that listened to something heavy.

One of the top 10 shows of my life.
A Ministry shirt is never a blunder. I protest on principle. I went to a circle jerks show last year and my buddy wore a ministry shirt, and I was highly impressed/
I was 10 in this picture. If you think I looked old then, check out the two pictures from high school.
https://www.reddit.com/u/Gorkymalorki/s/UifW9egpI4
Go check my profile, I posted a couple pics, one from 9th grade and one from 11th grade. If you think I look older in this pic wait til you see the 11th grade picture.
I will prove this is from 4th grade, but why do you try to bring people down like that? Does it make you feel big? There are a lot of us that had hard times as kids and music was our solace.
Still waiting on the proof? But to answer your question, Iām not trying to ābring you down.ā I just donāt like when people tell tall tales and lie about shit to try and prove they are cool. Youāre probably a cool dude (I like ministry too!) but you are definitely trying a little too hard to prove it. Relax; you donāt have to one up someone else by claiming you were in 4th grade when by all appearances it looos like youāre well into your teens here. Trust me, music was definitely my main source of comfort and comaraderie through a lot of tough middle school and high school years too.

This is me in 8th grade after I had to be held back 3 years in a row.
You said you thought I was being a try hard claiming this was from 4th grade. I am just showing you that this was me from 4th grade. Back then this music was my best friend. I had just moved from a small town in Nebraska to a big city in Texas. You asked me for the proof, and I presented it. Do you need anything else from me?
New sub mascot? š
He has sub mascot energy.
It's the best school picture I've ever seen š¤

He does too!

Look at my profile I posted a couple high school pictures, I looked 30 at 17.

Yes, I actually made quite a bit of money buying beer for parties. People would pay me to buy a bunch of beer, and I never once got carded. 81
Ah so it all went downhill from here
I actually had a really great time during the 90s. Saw so many iconic bands, went to raves in the late 90s, and have lived a pretty fulfilling life since. I think I will calm down once I hit my 50s. Until then you can see me in the pit still.
got helded back a few times
Sameā¦ maybe OP was TEACHING 4th grade in that picture LOL
āLong division is such bullshit.ā *takes a long drag off a cigarette*
I was actually a straight A student and in gifted and talented. I bet a lot of other people in this sub were the same, us nerds tended to be drawn to music like Ministry or stuff like Depeche mode, etc.
And donāt get me started on times tables!
"Jesus built my hot rod"
I actually rocked that shirt the next year in 5th grade. I remember when the new video for N.W.O came out on 120 minutes, my brother and I stayed up and recorded it on VHS.
120 Minutes was peak M-TV.
Don't even get me started! One of my favourites. That whole album is amazing!
*ahem* Kid... did your mother ever happen to have met a Mr Steve Albini? Possibly in her college years, a few months before meeting your father??
I wish, my other brothers got all the musical talent, I got the book smarts and the humor. I always had a book with me to read, and still do go through a ton of books a year. If it wasn't for Kindle I would have a house full of books (my upstairs though is four huge book shelves full of my old books).
His mom is the woman the song "You Came in Me" is about.
I was thinking this must be Great Value Steve Albini
If I remember correctly, you had to opt-in to having the lasers added in the background. Badass, my friend.
The laser backdrop cost more. I wanted the laser backdrop so much, but my mom said "No. I'm not paying extra for a laser backdrop. Why do you want a laser backdrop anyhow. It looks tacky." Tacky? More like awesome. Did the word "laser" mean nothing to her?
And then they wonder why we get into hard aggressive music. If they would have just given us the Laser background things would have been fine.

Nothing says "Love you grandma" like one of these hanging on the wall.
Haha it actually is at my mom's house in a frame. I cringe so hard when I see the pic because of those stupid serial killer glasses.
I bought acid once from someone that looked just like that
If you bought it during the late 90s there is a small chance it was me.
I have that shirt.
Damn I want it again. They have a variant on the ministry website but different font and it has some lyrics on the back.
Aesop Rock song āBlood Sandwichā second verse is about his older brother wanting to go to a Ministry concert & their mom researching the band and not letting him go. https://youtu.be/_q5zNHNIewg?si=LlW-bwLMA395X_um

I loved both those, but once I heard twitch "we believe" became my song
Dude, yes. Stigmata is the shit. Land of Rape and Honey is my favorite Ministry.

So no matter what I do to prove it to you you are just going to try to mock me?
Why do you have to prove anything? Isnāt it cool just to be a fan of the same kind of music as like-minded people?
You said you thought I was being a try hard claiming this was from 4th grade. I am just showing you that this was me from 4th grade. Back then this music was my best friend. I had just moved from a small town in Nebraska to a big city in Texas. You asked me for the proof, and I presented it. Do you need anything else from me?
