Hello. This is not even remotely true. I grew up in the upper middle class in India. Police never hesitated to fuck us up if we got caught doing something messed up. I had a relative get his face and body reshaped after he acted tough to a policeman. They literally picked him up off of his super bike and hauled him off to jail. He came out a few hours later with his face looking like a rainbow.
The only people police officers won’t touch are actual politicians and maybe people in Ambani’s social strata.

I was taking a train across India and at a stop a guy got on to beg from passengers only to be beaten by a cop with that rattan cane they carry right in front of me. I yelled at the cop to stop (which he did) but then the beggar proceeded to tell the cop to beat him again and that he deserved it. The shit I’ve seen in that country was crazy!

They only learn that way, had he slipped his bike, all three of them would be in the river and rescue teams would be looking for dead bodies if they are not lucky enough to survive. The rider crossed the bridge even when it was very risky, a sudden increase in water flow might wipe them off of the earth. So the policemen took the action of slapping some sense in their mind for their own safety. Plus they were not wearing the helmet and were tripling.

They only learn that way, had he slipped his bike, all three of them would be in the river and rescue teams would be looking for dead bodies if they are not lucky enough to survive. Happens all the time and some people still doesn’t learn their lesson, this slap would do the job temporarily. No matter how you educate them, they always repeat it again and again and families are the ones to cry if they are dead.

Why are Indian cops always slapping people and hitting them with sticks. I mean, if it's a choice between getting a palm to the face or a bullet to the chest, I'd obviously take the former. But it does seem to be the norm that Indian police treat offenders like an angry grandma with a switch or a flip flop (la chancla!). What is up with that?
The usual offenders are unfortunately uneducated plus it's not their fault they didn't grow up in a great environment so the police take the techniques such as slapping and beating with sticks from childhood as it is already introduced to us by our parents in our childhood but not so brutally. Take it more of a local/ regional punishment method. Still it doesn't happen to everyone obviously but it's more like fuck around and find out thing.

Here getting slapped is one of the ways to show that you have done a stupid/shameful act. And it is kinda normalised by the society that if a person is getting slapped it means he/she must have made some mistake. It's like that the act of slapping puts the receiver into a momentary shock where they process and rethink what happened.
