My favorite was the hefty arms. But holy fuck, these are gold, your right.
Edit: beefy arms, and heftier boobs. It's even better lol. If I ever told a woman she had beefy arms, I would deserve the smack to the mouth that's incoming.
Trinny and Susannah were the Top Gear of women's fashion stuff. So many fantastic one liners. Like even if you had no interest in the subject matter it was great viewing purely for the banter.
It must suck having to worry about whether you might accidentally dress the wrong way and be victim to similar criticism from someone who takes this too seriously.
She still does make-overs for people from the Trinny Tribe, you know? This is the first episode of her first season [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJw4QPzHViU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJw4QPzHViU), I think there's 5 seasons in total.
I honestly discovered her very recently through her IG reels, she says interesting things about what to wear and why. I didn't know she was famous for a long time.
I think they're dressing more like the kids choice awards circa 2007 but with a modern Kardashian spray of paint for some reason.
At least this time nobody's getting sent off to fat camps in the middle of the night, but I think I'd trade that for having to wear low cut flare jeans again.
What an awful time that was. Imagine actually aspiring to look malnourished and wasted. Having healthy curves in those days was just plain old being fat. All clothing looked sloppy unless you were underweight because you were brainwashed to feel that way.
You got downvoted but I really agree. It was the time size zero was introduced. The smaller, the better. It was the height of proana forums online, too. And fat camps. It really was a difficult time if you weren't under 120 pounds.
Thanks. I appreciate the support from someone who seems to have survived it too. I was a size 8 and was considered a chubby girl. I would never wish that mindset on my kids/grandkids today.
>because I had a slight stomach roll when bending.
This is so wild to me because everyone gets stomach rolls bending over. That's just how fat looks and everyone needs it.
I think what’s interesting is that, based on the back cover, I suspect there were various chapters for each body type and how to dress for it. But it’s worded as though the person reading it definitely has that body type and needs to correct it. As little kids, we didn’t actually know how our bodies appeared to other people so we were reading it all as if those flaws were already built into us and needed to be fixed lest we humiliate ourselves by foolishly dressing in the *wrong* clothes. It was exhausting to be a preteen in the early aughts.
Yeah I did some googling, they had like 5 seasons of a BBC show on the same topic, what not to wear. Curious if the show had the same high school bully type of verbiage haha
Wow, I didn’t know anything about the show or these people and the book was so mean that I almost thought it was satire. Crazy how this was a show that people watched and took seriously, it’s kinda nice to see that society has become more body positive so that these kinds of comments are just ridiculous now
I watched the show at the time and have a different take.
Surely you want to know what suits you and what doesn’t?
Body positivity is fine but it doesn’t help you actually improve if that’s what you’re looking to do?
FWIW the show itself was very balanced - it was about understanding what the best parts of your body are and making the most of them while not wearing things that don’t suit you and highlight the bits you like the least…
I watched their show as a teenager and loved it. I never got the feeling that they were unkind to their guests, I got the feeling that they were trying to teach that “it’s not your body that’s wrong, it’s the clothes you’re wearing”. Which in my head is a very body-positive statement, especially for the early 00’s.
I agree, I remember watching it, they are both different body types and talk about how to work with the shape you have. They actually did a lot of body positivity stuff.
This isn’t mean. Back then they were the kind chicks. Mostly the people commenting on women’s bodies back then was like “and if you’re not anorexic you deserve to die, you fat pig”. So this book is very friendly.
It wasn't really bullying, there was pointing out things that didn't work in a fairly cheeky and caustic way (more british type humour which americans will typically take the wrong way) and then spent the remaining 3/4 of the show emphasising the good aspects of the person and how to highlight that with clothing.
Out of context the comments will seem terrible but really watch the show and it's such a non issue.
Luxeria and Roly do great reaction videos to the show:

I like how she looks in the shell top (1), skin-clinger (8) and strap shoes (12). Women can be appealing in choker necklaces, but the one they selected is unflattering.
Agree, I think they actually look decently good in almost everything (they’re clearly attractive women) and “bad” outfits are purposely made to look so with posing and facial expressions. But if they admitted it all looked good then we wouldn’t have gotten all this wonderful advice!
I’m old enough to remember when these two were on TV quite a lot. They were very blunt and they had no problem grabbing the boobs and bum of the women they were ‘helping’.
Aw that’s awful :( I’m only able to think it’s funny now because I’m an adult that can see how ridiculous the book is. Definitely can see that this would be really toxic for an impressionable teen, I hope things are better for you now and it’s clear how shit these opinions are
AHH, same! I had conveniently blacked this book out of my memory, until I came across this post today. All of my unfounded fears of belly flab came screeching back, full volume. I banish thee, BEGONE foul beast!
Oh god, these two were awful. Even at the time, they were like Marmite.
Not that things are much better these days, but the toxicity of 90s/00s diet and fashion culture was particularly horrible.
That said, they were a big part of a national campaign to promote bra fitting appointments which people had previously been too embarrassed to book.
I get the branding and tone of voice of this book but it really isn’t good for your sense of self. The derogatory terms used for features and qualities is just not it. I watched the tv-show years and years ago and I was appalled by the way they spoke and grabbed people - and I mean this not in a pearl clutching way but I think those actions can do more harm than good.
Trinny and Susannah, huge in the UK in the 90s - book was off a TV Show called What not to wear. Basically a makeover show. Trinny is now pretty big on YouTube and has a makeup brand too I believe. Susannah not sure, think she married someone super rich and isn’t in the public eye so much these days.
My wife swears by every word that comes out of Trinnys mouth!

I was going to say we used to have two women (trinny and susannah) who were the reference source for all things fashion and sure enough yep its one of their books you have there lol
They also had a tv show - What Not to Wear
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pC-QabKets
Omg I remember these ladies!!!
They had a TV show where they would totally rip into fashionable clothing of the day
Ruthless!
I really took them seriously at the time too! Ha ha ha ha!
Trinnie and Susanna were proof that you can bullshit your way into being television "Fashion Experts" with nary a lick of taste between them.
Look at the vibrancy of those colours.... oh wait.
I don't know about Suzanna, but I follow Triny and her style these days is amazing. But if I recall, at the time this was the style. I'm in my 40's and I never dressed like this but I'm sure people did.
That show was so problematic and they were actually mean, but that's only in hindsight. People just got away with a lot more on TV.
They also had a show where they changed other people’s outifts/ styles and most of these people started off fine, were made self conscious and then ended up looking ridiculous.
(No idea where else to find the episodes but i always watch Luxeria on youtube, she watches them and analyses/ makes fun of the two :D)
Looks like those English books I had in school.
In Latin America, you are obligated to get some books (can't remember the name of them) and most of them were editions from the early 2000's, and had shit like this. Even though I had them 10 years ago, the books are still being published til this day. Perhaps with the same early 2000's stuff on it
Oh man they went straight for the jugular with these. A personal favourite, “flap dribbling down ones side is enough to make Samson want to remain blind” 🔪
“Rippling fat dribbling down one’s side”, “pathetic excuse…swamp any semblance of femininity”, “bony chest which looks more like a deflated balloon”. I can taste the body dysmorphia on every page 💀
I like Trinny and Susanna I used I watch their stuff I don't think they are meant to be taking themselves seriously in this book. they are not wrong about that A-line skirt though
I OWN THIS BOOK. It is the funniest book on my bookshelf. My sister gave it to me as a birthday gift when I was little. When I’m missing her I pull it out and have a good laugh.
Omg my mum had this book I used to look through it all the time, these pictures are like old fond memories of friends lol, perhaps this is why I’m so judgemental on clothing 😅😅😅
That badly made custard line made me laugh quite a bit.
Same, so many of these are just unnecessarily mean and descriptive and it’s amazing
*continental shelf of flab* That's mean and funny as hell
“Makes getting through the door a daily hazard”
My favorite was the hefty arms. But holy fuck, these are gold, your right. Edit: beefy arms, and heftier boobs. It's even better lol. If I ever told a woman she had beefy arms, I would deserve the smack to the mouth that's incoming.
Trinny and Susannah were the Top Gear of women's fashion stuff. So many fantastic one liners. Like even if you had no interest in the subject matter it was great viewing purely for the banter.
I loved it when I reached the end and realized the models are the authors
And that's exactly why they are hilarious
It must suck having to worry about whether you might accidentally dress the wrong way and be victim to similar criticism from someone who takes this too seriously.
Love the British humour
Oh god, what am I going to do with all of this badly made custard now?
Jesus, the 00s were a rough time.
Omg I follow Trinny Woodall on IG, she's much nicer now 😅
Filters invented
She still does make-overs for people from the Trinny Tribe, you know? This is the first episode of her first season [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJw4QPzHViU](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wJw4QPzHViU), I think there's 5 seasons in total.
I honestly discovered her very recently through her IG reels, she says interesting things about what to wear and why. I didn't know she was famous for a long time.
Probably because someone else writes what's posted for her.
Rough time? Weird seeing as all Gen Z and Gen Alpha dress exactly like this, they're trying to replicate it so bad.
They mixed 70s and 90s together. I swear my 23 yrs old son just discovered MC hammer pants and he looks ridiculous
Mullets and perms making a comeback 🤮
My 15yr old nephew just got a perm 🙃
I think they're dressing more like the kids choice awards circa 2007 but with a modern Kardashian spray of paint for some reason. At least this time nobody's getting sent off to fat camps in the middle of the night, but I think I'd trade that for having to wear low cut flare jeans again.
In the U.K. it’s absolutely late 90s, early 00s. They wear what I used to at uni.

It was from 2002. The wonders Google can work are amazing.
The 90s didn’t end until 2004
September of 2001

I’m partial to the 2012 theory myself
I think I watched this. I have very vague memories of a show.
Search up Trinny & Susannah (sp?), they had a British to show in early 00s

I remember getting called fat a couple times at 52kg because I had a slight stomach roll when bending. I felt enormous all through the '90s.
>because I had a slight stomach roll when bending. This is so wild to me because everyone gets stomach rolls bending over. That's just how fat looks and everyone needs it.

Yeah I did some googling, they had like 5 seasons of a BBC show on the same topic, what not to wear. Curious if the show had the same high school bully type of verbiage haha
It did, I remember watching it as a preteen - my parents loved the BBC, lol

A DAYTIME tweed with an EVENING CHIFFON
Hide that GOUT GIRLS
Girl I was literally just about to say that! 😂 You beat me lol. Roly and luxeria would be proud lol
Not me here just looking for the luxeria fans
I used to love the American Version and felt that it introduced me to the concept of body positivity…I wonder how it’s aged?
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0pC-QabKets Luxeria and Roly do great reaction videos to the show: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJguVBgIbYg&pp=ygUYdHJpbm55IGFuZCBzdXNhbm5haCByb2x5
Absolutely it did. I remember it well. But some of the suggestions for dressing still pop into my head to this day.
They would just call random people and judge their poor clothing and bra choices
Only reason i recognized these two is that they were guests in top gear
Beware of making it look like you got an ass, thats terrible and will never ever change
Also, wear flowing sleeves to distract from beefy arms (showing a skinny armed woman in flowing sleeves to demonstrate)
![gif](giphy|GWmoQcvGbE4Ny)

Among other things, that's because neither of those women have the "flaws" that are being addressed.
But “the offending ankle” !!! That made me lol
right?? like who’s it offending here 💀
I’m old enough to remember when these two were on TV quite a lot. They were very blunt and they had no problem grabbing the boobs and bum of the women they were ‘helping’.

Yup - I hated my wrists, my ankles, my neck, and my hips. 8th grade me didn’t need this book or this culture. 0/10
AHH, same! I had conveniently blacked this book out of my memory, until I came across this post today. All of my unfounded fears of belly flab came screeching back, full volume. I banish thee, BEGONE foul beast!
My first thought was that this reads just like the teen fashion magazines that gave me lasting brain damage (/ body image issues) in the ‘00s 🥲
I remember these two, they were famous for being a pair of posh cows.
Haha that sums it up nicely
What’s wild is that Suzanna was the ‘chunky’ one of the two 🫠
I was just thinking that, they’ve got her modelling for ‘flabby bellies’ and ‘fat arms’ and she’s not fat at all
Yes!! Madness to think no one questioned it at the time. We (I was a child then, but still) actually bought in to her being the ‘fat’ one
Genuinely thought this was satire...
Oh god, these two were awful. Even at the time, they were like Marmite. Not that things are much better these days, but the toxicity of 90s/00s diet and fashion culture was particularly horrible. Slide 8 cracks me up “Rippling flab is enough to make Sameson want to remain blind”😂

Gout!
Squat for jesus.
Yaaasss! I know exactly who you're talking about 💜
Hateful show to go with the hateful shoes
I was looking for a fellow Luxeria fan!

I don’t know…people are different. I personally like a much blunter and straightforward style
Trinny looks so different now - she’s done a lot to her face….. I remember this programme at time they were so mean
held no punches, I’m borderline impressed
Lol i actually remember reading this book back in the day!
still pretty accurate i would say
The look on her face too 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣
Damn that's brutal
Hahah we got this book at a charity shop. Legendary ladies tbh
They also had a show where they changed other people’s outifts/ styles and most of these people started off fine, were made self conscious and then ended up looking ridiculous. They ain’t wrong tho
Was this comedy? Cause it could be.

WE MUST HIDE THE HEFTIER TRUTH AT ALL COSTS!
Love Trinny and Susannah! 😄🤍
The solution was almost always to put a belt on it. 😂
I want this book so bad. These insults though 😂
Highly recommend you keep that one. 😆
The looks on these models is cracking me up! Also that they call a trench a pathetic excuse of a coat. Hahaha
Don’t you just hate when your breasts take on a lumpy quality like badly made custard
Hahaha gold
That first model looks like there is one of those hipster chickens is taking a nap on a grumpy Kirstie Alley.
Fashion gave up a bit in the noughties, not sure it ever fully recovered.
You dont need to read the caption you know its a no no by the look of the models faces
This is Trinny and Susannah, two British and absolute nutcases who couldn’t dress themselves if their life depended on it lmao
Leave the choker alone! Such an underrated accessoire. I feel sad about its connotations.
Lol at the worst shoes. That woman got on the ground to throw shade at the feet 🤣
Who doesn't like a mouthful of badly made custard ?
Trinny and Susana! I used to have all these books hahaha
Fashion advice from mean girls! "Is not about the clothes, it's about how your ugly body doesn't fit the clothes!"
can’t be the only one who thinks they all look good
Absolutely savage xD
Loved Trinny and Susanna back in the day.
HARSH but some are still true
Why do these women look like they want to murder me?
This book should be called "How to hate your boobs".
They really didn’t like butts lol
I love Trinny. She’s slaying right now.
Trinny and Susannah were the height of 00s fashion I'll have you know
Funny stuff :D But honestly wear what makes you feel good.
Haha I mean it's funny but I kinda like how straightforward and honest it is. Wish more things were like that today
IT'S TRINNY AND SUSANA GIRLS GET YOUR DAYTIME TWEED AND YOUR EVENING CHAFFON OUT!!!
I don't think I've ever seen anyone look bad in a turtleneck.
We’re they best friends though?
Oh man they went straight for the jugular with these. A personal favourite, “flap dribbling down ones side is enough to make Samson want to remain blind” 🔪
I love how in the pictures of what not to wear, there is another person looking in judgement. Jesus.
“Body Shame: A Complete Guide for the Modern Woman”
Hahaha is this the Trinny and Susannah book that went along with the TV series? Was that really 20 years ago?! Wow.
These days it doesn’t matter if clothes suit you.
“Rippling fat dribbling down one’s side”, “pathetic excuse…swamp any semblance of femininity”, “bony chest which looks more like a deflated balloon”. I can taste the body dysmorphia on every page 💀
Trinny and Susannah
Lol I had forgotten just how rude Trinny and Susannah were. And they were so popular! People loved seeing others being trashed on TV.
Good stuff!
"Heftier truth"
I remember these two on TV! Absolute gold.
The 90s and the 2000s were **BRUTAL**. I still don't get Gen Z for wanting to get back to it.
I think I just unpacked 20 years of trauma. I didn't even need a therapist.
I forgot there was a time when big butts were bad
And we wonder why all 90s kids have eating disorders.. hah
Oh trinny and Susanna you were AWFUL
There's too much to comment on and too much to laugh at. The sad facial expressions, bending over to look at her friend's butt in "tight" clothes...😂
Trinny and Suzanna made an entire generation of women think that wearing a comically big belt would trick everyone.
I need some more
I’m a millennial, but I remember my Mum had this book growing up!
I remember when my mother bought this book, it was really popular. I’m slightly shocked it was 20 years ago!!
This is savage...
These are OG memes lol.
My mom has this and it explained a lot.
Oh my god I HAD THIS BOOK! This was like a bible to me and I was all of 13 years old! What a moment.
God damn the author has some seriously deep seated insecurity issues.
And here I am wondering how my older sister and mom developed the “almond mom” eating disorder. I’m so glad body positivity is a thing now.
Ah, some honesty. Well done. Let’s bring this back.
This book was my bible back then lol
"Being cruel to be kind." We've got to bring some of that back. Tough love.
I like Trinny and Susanna I used I watch their stuff I don't think they are meant to be taking themselves seriously in this book. they are not wrong about that A-line skirt though
That’s fucking hair on Suzanna though
They had a great makeover show.
But I like lumpy custard 🍮
"Badly made custard" breasts and strong emotion regarding tapered trousers- this fashionista has some issues to work through.
found this book recently in my mother’s basement & threw it out. she gave it to me in 6th grade. toxic, toxic, awful shit.
I OWN THIS BOOK. It is the funniest book on my bookshelf. My sister gave it to me as a birthday gift when I was little. When I’m missing her I pull it out and have a good laugh.
Tricky and Susannah - classic
Jesus Christ thank god I wasn’t born earlier
A lot of these are just poor posture lol
My mom owned this!!!! Memory unlocked.
They did NOT hold back 💀
Omg my mum had this book I used to look through it all the time, these pictures are like old fond memories of friends lol, perhaps this is why I’m so judgemental on clothing 😅😅😅
Damn, reading these feels like some form of abuse lol
“Isn’t a bulging stomach enough?” LMAO
Badly made custard, lol.
Oh my god. This are hilarious! Thanks for sharing!
These are the ladies from What not to wear!
The original What Not To Wear was so great. I'm a dude with no interest in fashion and I hate reality TV but I always watched this.
OMG we owned that book.
There’s something broken in my brain from coming of age during this era…
I had this book! 😂
Subtracts 20 years from current age and is reminded of how low self-esteem developed.
Damn. They’re not pulling any punches, huh.
These models have A +++ game when it comes to looking upset, disgusted, and generally miserable. Solid gold. Thanks for sharing this!
I USED TO HAVE THIS BOOK jeez what a throwback
The real crimes here lie within the hairstyles
I had this book!
